Plants Vs Zombies Adventures is a spin of the popular Plants vs Zombies strategy game. PvZ Adventures is described as “highly accessible, zombie-zapping adaptation of the original game designed specifically for Facebook”.

‘Here is the official statement from PR – “will take players beyond the confines of the backyard”, sending them on a series of road-trips, fighting zombies as they travel to different locations. “Players will also be able to send hordes of zombies to their Facebook friends,” it explains, and you can expect “new zombie and plant types, new ways of obtaining, cultivating and deploying plant defenses, and leaderboards”.

PvZ Adventures was in closed beta since March, however, the game will officially be released on Facebook for everyone to play on May 20th.

Meanwhile, Plants Vs Zombies 2 was confirmed for release in July not too long ago.

We recently sat down with Nintendo UK’s Head of Communications, Rob Saunders, and we got to talk of their future support for their systems.

We asked Mr Saunders if Nintendo will be taking the more hardcore approach with the 3DS- lately, they have been known to be shifting towards the casual market a bit, but the 3DS, with games such as Splinter Cell and Resident Evil, looks to change this perception. We asked him if with their new handheld, Nintendo will try to reclaiming the hardcore market.

To this, Saunders said, “I don’t think it’s so much about reclaiming them… I think with a game like Mario Galaxy 2, for example, we’ve continued making those sorts of games and we still try to make games for as broad an audience as possible.”

“What we are trying to do with the 3DS launch line is to mirror that and show that there is an amazing breadth of software there,” he continued. “Whether you’re a more casual user and like Rayman or you’re a hardcore Street Fighter fan, whether you’re a football fan and love Pro-Evo or even if you just love stroking a dog, via Nintendogs and Cats, there’s something for you.

“It would be a pretty dull launch line up if it was thirteen shoot em’ ups or thirteen driving games. I think it’s about having something for everyone. There are always going to be people who aren’t happy or cry that a certain title isn’t there but, as we’ve shown at E3 and as Mr. Miyamoto said recently; there’s a Mario game coming, we’ve shown Zelda Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart will be there, those titles will come. What we’d rather do is bring that title out when it’s finished, ready and brilliant, rather than rush it and bring out an inferior title.”

Nintendo also got nominated in the BAFTA’s, and regarding that, they said, “People who pigeonhole us as being ‘something just for kids’ or being all about shooting or fighting games should take a look at this list.”

In the very same interview, Saunders told us that Nintendo are already working on a new home console, which may include 3D. He also told us that the Ocarina of Time 3DS remake will be very “faithful” to the N64 original.

Here’s the full interview.

In Mole Control you take charge of a person sitting in what can only be described as a cross between a large rodent and a flying car. You are then tasked with removing the moles from peoples gardens in a place called Molar Creek, which unsurprisingly has a small issue with moles. The whole game is quite simply a revamp of the classic Windows game Minesweeper.

When you move, a small grid around you shows you how many mines (sorry, moles) you are touching. Using logic and a bit of cunning you can eventually work out exactly where the moles are hidden. Also, once you’ve passed over a square the color of the grass will change to let you know you’ve safely passed over this point, so you won’t go back and cover ground you’ve already explored. If a number shows up on your kart, that number will stay on the ground once you move so that you can try to figure out where the mole is hiding.

While the basic mechanic is that of Minesweeper, it’s the level design that sets Mole Control apart. Certain objects or obstacles might block your way, making it infuriatingly difficult to pinpoint a mole, or a fence might stand in your way. This brings me to one of the major issues with the game; some levels are very long, there’s no mid-game saving and you only get 3 incorrect guesses of where moles are hidden- any more than that and you will be booted right back to the start.

The levels are also quite large, and retracing your steps, one painstakingly lengthy square at a time, can be tedious. A rotor on the top of the buggy lets you fly around, but the controls here are lacklustre.

The story itself is simple in nature, making it a great game to play with young children. For many, Mole Control may prove to be just too slow in pacing to be very enjoyable. It is, at its heart, a puzzle game more than anything else, and it suits that audience. I wouldn’t recommend rushing out to go and grab it now, but next time you head to the game store, keep a look out for this interesting little indie game.

This game was reviewed on the PC.

While Natal is going to be aimed slightly more towards casual gamers, MS has said that they won’t be discarding the hardcore minority.

In an interview with MCV the Big M stated that 2010 releases such as Alan Wake, Halo Reach, Crackdown II and Fable 3 will make this year one of the best in the Xbox 360’s history.

“From the beginning, Xbox has always had a very deliberate strategy to focus on core gamers and then expand the market,” said European Xbox Boss Chris Lewis, ThatVideoGameBlog reported.

“Project Natal is meant to complement, not replace, the experiences on Xbox 360. We’ve reached new heights in creating a more natural and responsive gaming and entertainment experience for people of all interests and skill levels, whilst maintaining our commitment to deliver quality core games that consistently exceed expectations.”

But not matter what platform you are playing on, 2010 looks set to be a great year for gaming.
