THQ Nordic has announced that the action-adventure title will finally be releasing for the Switch on September 30, nearly three years after its original launch. It will cost $39.99 / €39.99 / £34.99. On top of the base game itself, the package will also include the game’s two expansions- The Crucible and Keepers of the Void.

In our review of the game back in 2018, we awarded the game a score of 8/10, saying, “Darksiders 3 marries the best parts of Darksiders will new mechanics, a fun world to explore, enjoyable characters and story, and an engaging combat system.” You can read our full review through here.

For the entire month, Darksiders 3 will be available for all Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. It was the latest game in the action series from THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games. For August 1st to the 15th will be Capcom’s Lost Planet 3, the final entry in that series and one that took a more narrative-based approach than its predecessors. From the 16th to the 31st is Garou: Mark of the Wolves, the final entry in the Fatal Fury fighting series. Rounding out, the original Yooka-Laylee will be available from the 16th going into September.

The slate of games will be available for subscriptions starting August 1st, and will be playable on all Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles, with Lost Planet 3 and Garou: Mark of the Wolves also being playable on Xbox 360.

While several companies have entered into the streaming game as of late, specifically Google with their Stadia program and Microsoft with Xbox Cloud Gaming/xCloud, it can be easy to forget that Sony was one of the first with their PlayStation Now service. It is still going strong, too, and this month we’ve got a whole new batch to look forward to.

First up, the headlining title is no doubt Sony’s first party title, Horizon Zero Dawn. That is the Complete Edition, so the game’s expansion is also included. Alongside side that is a helping of action titles with Darksiders 3 and The Surge 2. For something a little more methodical, the survival game Stranded Deep is coming, and then we have some crazy indie with the incredibly tongue in cheek sidescroller Broforce and racing title Wreckfest: Drive Hard. These games will be on PlayStation Now and playable on PS5, PS4 as well as capable PCs starting this month.

Sony did well with its PlayStation Plus offerings for August 2019, and September seems to continue that trend. It recently announced that subscribers would receive Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Knight and Gunfire Games’ Darksiders 3 for free next month. Both titles will be available for download from September 3rd to 30th.

Batman: Arkham Knight released in 2015 and acted as an effective conclusion to Rocksteady’s open world superhero series. It saw Batman battling against Scarecrow and a mysterious entity called the Arkham Knight for control of Gotham. Though criticized for its Batmobile missions and terrible PC launch, the title was praised for its visuals and massive open world.

Darksiders 3 is perhaps a more surprising addition. It launched last year in November and served as a return for the cult-classic action adventure series. Since then, Gunfire Games has followed up with Remnant: From the Ashes, which is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Check out our review for that game here.

Gunfire Games’ Darksiders 3 has received its second paid expansion with Keepers of the Void. Available now for $10.99, it sees Fury traveling to the Serpent Holes to battle an “ancient threat.” Check out the launch trailer below to see how it looks.

Unlike The Crucible, which offered an arena to battle waves upon waves of monsters, Keepers of the Void is more of a story DLC. New puzzles and foes can be found in the Serpent Holes, which will push Fury to the limit. Along with a new weapon, she’ll also receive the series’ trademark Abyssal Armor as a reward.

Gunfire Games is currently working on a new project, a co-op third person shooter called Remnant From the Ashes. Featuring rogue-lite and survival elements for unique playthroughs, it’s out on August 20th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Gunfire Games’ Darksiders 3 came out last year to some mixed reviews, but largely performed well for controversial publisher THQ Nordic, and has seen several updates since its release. That said, there’s even more coming with Armageddon Mode, a New Game Plus mode that hopes to extend your time with the game even more.

Darksider 3’s Armageddon Mode will have nine levels. Each playthrough will see increased difficulty, new items, altered enemy encounters, and new Achievements/Trophies. When you pass the ninth playthrough, you can choose to replay level 9 as much as you want. While all of your coins and progression will carry over between each new game, your DLC progression will not, so you were have to unlock your DLC content, such as the recently released Crucible, all over again.

Armageddon Mode is out now for those who are ready. You can see the full list of features and patch notes below.

Armageddon Mode Features:

• Armageddon mode goes up to +9: once that has been completed players will be able to continually play that level over and over again.
• Upgrade Armor: Oblivion Ore can now be found on specific enemies. Turning these Shards into Ulthane will allow any armor in the game to be upgraded.
• Wisdom Shards: These Shards can be found in Armageddon mode. Shattering these shards will temporarily boost the souls collected from defeated enemies.
• New Encounters: New encounters and a new enemy have been added to Armageddon Modes.
• New Achievements and Trophies: 3 new achievements have been added related to Armageddon Mode
• New Lurcher Clusters: Unique items that were collected in a previous playthroughs are replaced with large lurcher crystals.

New General Features:

• Reckoning Difficulty: Darksiders 3 Apocalyptic Difficulty too easy? A new difficulty has been added where Fury’s dodge windows are smaller, the enemies hit harder and can withstand more damage.
• Arcane Shard: A new item that will temporarily boost Arcane Damage that will drop from enemies and can be purchased from Vulgrim.
• Large Healing Shard: A Larger Healing shard has been added that will drop from enemies and can be purchased from Vulgrim.
• Weapon Upgrades: Weapons can now be upgraded to +13
• Spend 5 Attribute Points at a Time: If the points are available, players can invest 5 points at a time into a single Attribute.
• Hide HUD: There is now an option for hiding the HUD.
• Flip Y-Axis: Option added to flip Horizontal Camera Axis”

The first DLC for Gunfire Games’ Darksiders 3 is now available with The Crucible. This mode will be familiar to Darksiders 2 fans as it involves clearing waves and waves of enemies in a special arena. The trailer below gives a better idea of what to expect.

How The Crucible works is pretty simple. First, you battle through 25 waves. Surviving five of them without dying will provide a choice. Either leave with your reward, or carry on with the risk of dying and losing out. Defeating different Sins will unlock sets of new waves to fight through.

There are 101 waves of enemies to push through, and tougher opponents emerge as you progress. Rewards include new armour sets, new enchantments, and even “rare” crafting materials to bolster your weapons. Of course, if you defeat all 100 waves in one sitting, then there will be a “final challenge” to conquer. What does that unlock upon completion? You’ll have to play and find out.

Darksiders 3 launched late last year to mixed reception. Though many ended up enjoying the game (including ourselves), there were some who were not as enamoured by it, with the game currently sitting at a rating of 69 on Opencritic. In spite of the less than positive reception to the game, though, it turns out it has managed to sell well enough to match the expectations publishers THQ Nordic had internally set for it.

In their latest financial report, THQ Nordic confirmed that Darksiders 3 ended up performing “within expectations”, driving increased net sales for their Vienna based business area. It has, in fact, managed to sell well enough to recoup all investments that were made for its development and marketing. “Net sales in our Vienna based business area THQ Nordic increased 38% to SEK 352 million, largely driven by the release of Darksiders 3,” the publisher revealed. “The game has performed within management’s expectations and has recouped all the investments made in development and marketing during the quarter.”

It also seems THQ Nordic are going to remain committed to supporting the franchise, which they say is a “key IP” for them. “In 2019, several DLC’s will be released that will give the game a further boost. Darksiders remains one of the Group’s key IP’s.”

A couple months back, THQ Nordic responded to the criticism Darksiders 3 had received from several critics and players at launch, stating that they remain satisfied with the product they had put out, so it’s definitely good to see them standing by the franchise and looking to keep it active.

Darksiders 3 will be receiving two expansions this year, while Darksiders: Warmastered Edition was recently announced for the Nintendo Switch.

While Darksiders, both the older games as well as the more recent Darksiders 3, are available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Nintendo’s Switch sadly remains a Darksiders-free zone. Sadly, because the games, which are Zelda-like in structure, and which were on Wii U and did reasonably well there (as well as any game could on Wii U, anyway), would probably go down well with the Switch audience.

Apparently, publisher THQ Nordic might agree with that sentiment. Today on Twitter, THQ Nordic and the official Darksiders account engaged in a little skit in response to a fan suggestion that the game might come to the Switch, implying that the series may in fact be headed to Nintendo’s hardware.

It’s just a tease, and not even an explicit one, and assuming there is any substance to it, we don’t even know what to expect—just the first game? The first two games? Just the third game? All three games? For now, this is just speculation, but I guess keep your eye out for a Darksiders on Switch announcement in the coming months.

Darksiders 3 brings the fan favorite action adventure franchise to a new generation. There’s a lot going on in this game, but the thing that may surprise players the most is just how difficult the game can be. As a result, a lot of players may be tempted to tip the scales in their favor using cheats and exploits. That’s what this guide focuses on.

There are multiple Enhancements in the game and below, we list some of them.

• Fortune: Increases power of consumables/Lurchers may come out of slain enemies. You can find this in Sewage Egress Vulgrim.
• Fortifier: More health/more physical and arcade damage. You can find it in in the West End.
• Leviathan: Health regenerates passively/Lurchers may come out of environmental objects you break. You can buy it from Vulgrim.
• Shade: Reduce Arcane Damage/Increase Arcane Damage dealt. You can find it by the tree Ulthane lives in.
• Marauder: Higher item drop chance/higher Health Lurchers spawn chance. Found in the Tangled Grotto.
• Obscurus: Higher evade i-frame window/more Havoc is generated. You can find it in the tree near Hangman’s Tree Vulgrim.
• Chaos: Havoc form lasts longer/damage taken can heal you
  In the room with the big statue by Catacombs Vulgrim.
• Rage: Wrath Lurchers from defeated enemy net more Wrath/higher weapon spawning Wrath. Buy from Vulgrim.
