A lot goes into designing a stealth game, whether it’s crafting realistic enemy AI or missions that facilitate different degrees of sneakiness. Nevertheless, the genre scratches a different itch, as defying the odds through craftiness and minimal violence can feel incredibly rewarding. Let’s look at 15 of the best stealth titles of all time.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut

Ghost of Tsushima is many things. A great action-adventure title with stellar sword combat. A well-told story with strong characterization and memorable events. And to top it all off, the stealth is incredibly on point, whether assassinating enemies from above, poisoning them from afar, or using smoke bombs to slit their throats at close range. While stealth helps trivialize the game as one gets further in, it helps reinforce the legend of Jin as the Ghost, becoming a fiercer foe as his skills improve.

While most games don't bother caring all too much about violence, these games actually punish those who go this route in rather creative ways.

There’s a lot of killing and stabbing involved in video games. From shooters to RPGs to hack-and-slashers, violence seems to be a recurring theme of the medium, and very few games actually put in the thought to punish or reward players for killing excessively. Then there are games that do put in the effort to punish you for committing virtual crimes, and here are the ones that do so most creatively.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Kojima’s swansong Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is a game that actually uses its open-world setting to great effect. Its setting of Afghanistan houses a complex web of interconnecting systems that create a highly dynamic gameplay loop – requiring players to alter strategies on the fly. It’s also filled with a ton of neat little details to signify the outcome of your killings. If you get sloppy and do a lot of killing in your mission, your Demon Points increase which causes the Horn on Venom Snake to grow along with blood smears on his face. After a certain point, the horn will grow out completely and you turn into Demon Snake.

The revolution will be smoother this time.

While Eidos Montreal will be bringing out brand new Deus Ex titles for next gen consoles under the banner of Deus Ex Universe, it’s still very much committed to bringing out Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut. The developer has release a new trailer for the game, a re-release which adds a fair amount of tweaks to improve the experience, which you can check out above.

The re-release will apparently feature better boss battles, allowing for numerous solutions rather than a single violent approach, better AI and all the DLC release till now. It will also include improved visuals and 8 hours of developer commentary. But that’s not all – the Director’s Cut will also feature second-screen options using either the Wii U Gamepad, SmartGlass or the Vita with the PS3 for sniping, accessing computer terminals, hacking and much more.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut will release on October 22nd in North America and October 25th in Europe for Wii U, PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Also due to release "soon".

The upcoming Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut, which features new content and game tweaks that allows players who didn’t spend all their points on making unstoppable killing machines actually stand a chance against bosses, apparently retail for the full price of $60.

This was according to a Square Enix representative that spoke to Joystiq and stated that “it won’t be $60.” Of course, in terms of a release, the rep also said that it would be out “soon” so details are a little sketchy on just how much it will cost.

However, listings on Amazon have showcased that while the Wii U version could retail for $49.99, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will retail for $29.99. Just like in the world of Deus Ex, it’s hard to know just who one can trust. Nonetheless, we’ll see if the final product justifies the price when Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut releases for Mac, PC, PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360.

Exclusively for the Wii U.

The Eidos hit RPG Deus Ex Human Revolution is coming to Wii U under the moniker Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Edition. Unlike quite a lot of Wii U ports, which are lazy, half assed efforts, this one looks like it might legitimately end up being the best version of the bunch. In addition to Wii U specific features and functions, it will also be fixing some of the most criticized aspects of the original game, including, yes, the boss fights.

Check out the trailer above and see what you think. The game has transitioned very well to Nintendo’s much maligned console, and should be a good addition to its library when it launches, in spite of being two years late.

It launches for the Wii U later this year (as the third party sizzle reel during the Nintendo Direct reminded us). More news for you as and when we have it.

Nintendo's Wii U bad run continues.

According to a report, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut may miss it’s initial target release data of May 7th, 2013.

The game was slated to be released on the Wii U tomorrow but it seems that it might not happen. Nintendoworldreport reports that a Square Enix representative confirmed to them that the release date is still unconfirmed and is not May 7th, 2013.

The Nintendo Wii U has been really performing quite poorly on the software front. No matter how good a gaming hardware can be, but if there is lack of software, no one is going to be prompted to buy it.

Nintendo really has it’s task cut out at the moment. Plus, they are not attending E3, which is in-arguably the biggest platform for publishers and developers to showcase their games.

What do you guys think about this? Sound off in the comments section below.

Square Enix and Eidos Montreal invite you to join the revolution on Wii U.

Being Adam Jensen in Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut coming for the Wii U involves much more than just picking up a GamePad and calling it a day. Luckily, with this new adaptation from Square Enix, you’ll be a lot more involved this time around as the newest trailer showcases.

Along with the extra content like Tongs’s Rescue mission and the Missing Link, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut will have its bosses re-balanced and fixed to allow for multiple play-styles to be used. So if you were complaining because your uber-hacker couldn’t match an enemy’s brute force, you’re in luck.

The Director’s Cut will also feature several Wii U specific features such as using the GamePad to hack computers and peek around corners while sneaking. You’ll also be able to manage items and inventory space on the fly via the touchscreen.

Watch out for Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut in 2013.
