A franchise favorite returns, albeit with tweaks to ensure a new experience, including more opportunities for destruction.

That we knew it was coming doesn’t make us any less excited now that it’s actually almost here. Battlefield 6 has given us a fresh look at Wake Island, a franchise staple that’s appeared in multiple games.

However, it’s designed to be familiar yet fresh, with changes to allow players to take full advantage of everything that the game offers. That includes the naval warfare options that came with the latest season’s debut. Indeed, there’s even a shipwreck to investigate, and an aircraft carrier that you’re probably better served taking control of sooner rather than later. It’s probably a great place to try out the refined airplane controls coming with the new Top Gun update.

Battlefield 6 continues to add new content for us all to enjoy, and it’s all been good enough for the most part to justify the game being a top earner for EA last year. Wake Island is a great example of the developers pulling out all the stops to cater to fans, whether you’re contesting the shoreline or encountering enemy bunkers.

Of course, there are other “opportunities for destruction” that the accompanying announcement didn’t elaborate on, so you’ll have to try it first-hand. The trailer’s pretty interesting and is chaotic enough to get the adrenaline surging ahead of its August 18th launch.

The update, out on August 18th, will bring in a host of new vehicles, as well as the revamped Wake Island map featuring two carriers as HQs.

With Season 4 of Battlefield 6 well underway, the development team at Battlefield Studios is getting ready to reveal details about the next major update for the game. Referred to as the Top Gun update, it will be released on August 18th and will introduce aerial combat-focused elements, including the revamped Wake Island map.

The team has noted that, while the previous iterations of Wake Island were known for combined arms warfare that included infantry, vehicles, and aircrafts, all helping to shape the battle, the new version has been “reimagined around the modern combat sandbox” with a “stronger focus on naval warfare and large-scale conflict across land, air, and sea.”

Both sides of the new Wake Island map are flanked by aircraft carriers serving as HQs for both sides, and players will also have to deal with the waters around the island as they figure out how best to get to their objectives.

The Top Gun update also brings in two new game modes that have been designed around air combat and team coordination due to the presence of various objectives around the map. Along with this, as the update’s name might imply, it also serves as a collaboration between Battlefield 6 and the Top Gun movie franchise. The two new game modes are Carrier Strike for Battlefield 6, and Fighter Sweep for REDSEC.

Carrier Strike will involve both teams working to destroy each other’s carriers, with the island being home to many key sectors through which new vehicles could be deployed, and openings can be created. The carrier itself will be able to take damage, which will inevitably lead to battles escalating. The final objective for this mode will be in the guts of each carrier, upping the stakes for both teams.

Fighter Sweep is a new Gauntlet mission that involves taking down enemy jets and destroying stockpiles across the map. Doing so will help to boost the team’s score, and rivals can be challenged in dogfights, all while other players work together to complete objectives.

As a result of the Top Gun collaboration, Battlefield 6 is also getting the new Interdictor sniper rifle, the F/A-81F Super Spectre jet, and the F-74A Seacat jet. Both of the vehicles are two-seat jets, giving players plenty of ways to support their teams by bombarding the battlefield or taking down enemy aircrafts. Fort Lyndon is also getting a brand-new POI – the USS Grant – in the REDSEC battle royale mode. A crashed carrier, it will feature loot that is of higher value than other POIs on the map for the first two weeks after the update’s release.

Aside from new content, the Top Gun update will also bring with it a host of enhancements and improvements to the game. Among these is the new optional ADS Dispersion Crosshair that will give players a clearer idea of how their weapon’s recoil affects accuracy. Airplanes will also be easier to control thanks to Airplane Control Assist, giving newer players an easier way to fly their planes.

Portal is getting a few improvements as well, including an Advanced Editor that includes new, experimental tools like baked lighting and terrain editing to give players more options to design their Portal experiences. The Advanced Editor will be rolled out slowly, starting with the inclusion of the Custom Operation Metro experience by Bellum1988 in Portal’s SDK.

Battlefield 6 and REDSEC are available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

The shooter's development team confirmed in its patch notes that the issues were seemingly related to water bodies, among other things.

As a follow-up to recent confirmation from EA that Battlefield 6 players running the title on PCs equipped with Nvidia’s RTX 50-series graphics cards are facing issues, the company has now released a brand-new update with a fix. Buried in the patch notes for the latest game update – version 1.4.1.5 – the company has confirmed that Nvidia GPU users will no longer experience driver crashes.

Interestingly, the note confirms that it largely seemed to happen when the players in question were either changing attachments on the SOR-300SC, using Custom Search, or playing on maps with large bodies of water.

The arrival of the bug was seemingly related to the release of Nvidia’s driver version 610.74, and while the development team for Battlefield 6 was investigating the issues, they had recommended players temporarily roll back to driver version 596.49 in the meantime. At the time, one of the core reasons behind drivers crashing in Battlefield 6 seemed to revolve around large bodies of water, which also coincided with the recent release of the Tsuru Reef map that kicked off Season 4 of the shooter.

“We’re investigating an issue on PC where some players may experience a GPU driver crash when playing on maps with large bodies of water, including Tsuru Reef,” said the company at the time. “Based on our current data, the issue appears to affect Nvidia GPUs, with reports more concentrated among players using GeForce RTX 50 Series cards. The issue does not appear to affect all players using these GPUs.”

As for other details about the update, EA has noted through the Battlefield Comms social media account that the development team was focused on addressing issues affecting deployment, aiming, Challenges, vehicles, maps, Portal, UI, audio, and visual presentation.

Players can look forward to general improvements to gameplay reliability across various aspects, from water transitions to deployment and vehicle behavior. The menus have also seen some changes, with updates to Challenge tracking and corrections made to UI and UX issues affecting the Loadout screen, among others. Multiple maps and Portal experiences have also seen quite a few bugs surrounding collision, interaction, audio, and visuals fixed.

As for what Battlefield 6 players can look forward to in the future, the development team at Battlefield Studios recently revealed its roadmap for the current season. As part of this, Battlefield 6 will see the return of the fan-favorite map from older titles, Wake Island, on August 18th. A new game mode dubbed Top Gun: Carrier Strike will also be introduced, along with a host of new additions, like the F74A Seacat 2-seater jet and the new Interdiction weapon.

Finally, September 15th will see the release of the Tidal Strike update that brings in the Deep Six collection event, the Diver’s Knife melee weapon, as well as some new features for RedSec mode, like new discoverable secrets dubbed the Phantom Program, and Proximity Chat. The latter will first see some thorough testing through Battlefield Labs before it is released for the battle royale mode.

Battlefield 6 is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

It’s worth checking out all the new stuff that’s been laid out for this year when you take a breather from blowing up Tsuru Reef.

The folks over on the team behind Battlefield 6 certainly like to plan ahead, with a new roadmap laying out the rest of its plans for Season 4 and what it plans to open Season 5 with.

There’s a lot of cool stuff on the way, beginning with Custom Lobbies coming on August 18th alongside Wake Island, with many options available for hosts to set things up. Battle Royale Quad and Conquest are supported initially, but other modes will be added over time. Proximity chat’s another exciting addition on September 15th, and all of this is coming to Battlefield Labs before it hits the game so we get to test it out.

The team’s playing things close to the chest for Season 5, but it has since confirmed that it’s launching in Winter and is bringing three new maps. One is infantry-focused while the other two are slated to integrate the different kinds of warfare available into one spectacular experience, and we can’t wait to learn more about them.

There’s quite a lot to unpack in the official announcement, along with a Q&A where the developers respond to player questions from Discord. It’s interesting stuff if you live and breathe Battlefield 6.

The shooter "achieved meeting all milestones for a high-quality launch" and played a major role in bonuses for EA's top brass.

Following recent layoffs across Electronic Arts, including employees who worked on the successful Battlefield 6, it seems the company has decided to reward CEO Andrew Wilson with bonus payments. According to a new 10K report filed with the United States’ Securities and Exchange Commission (via Eurogamer), Wilson was paid $38,694,984 in the form of stock awards and bonus pay.

The company has also been rewarding some of its other executives. CFO Stuart Canfield, for instance, received $11.3 million, while EA president Laura Miele got $13.7 million and chief people officer Mala Singh received $8.3 million.

While the exact reasons behind these payments haven’t been revealed, the filing has noted that, with Battlefield 6, the company “achieved meeting all milestones for a high-quality launch.” EA Sports FC also seemingly played a role, having “achieved meeting specified retention goal, meeting audience growth targets for FC Mobile in specified geography, and meeting key product execution milestones.”

Even lesser-regarded titles like Skate seemingly resulted in executive leadership receiving bonus payments, thanks to surpassing a certain number of players.

These bonuses come as Electronic Arts undergoes its acquisition by an investor consortium that includes Saudi Arabia’s PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. Valued at $55 billion, the all-cash deal was approved by EA’s shareholders back in December 2025. Once the process is complete, the PIF will own 93.4 percent of EA. Silver Lake Partners and Affinity Partners, on the other hand, will end up with 5.5 percent and 1.1 percent ownership of EA, respectively.

“Our creative and passionate teams at EA have delivered extraordinary experiences for hundreds of millions of fans, built some of the world’s most iconic IP, and created significant value for our business. This moment is a powerful recognition of their remarkable work,” said Wilson in a statement when announcing the deal.

“Looking ahead, we will continue to push the boundaries of entertainment, sports, and technology, unlocking new opportunities. Together with our partners, we will create transformative experiences to inspire generations to come. I am more energized than ever about the future we are building.”

A report from earlier this year, however, has indicated that the deal might attract some scrutiny from the US Federal Trade Commission. Lawmakers, including more than 40 House Democrats in the US Congress, have written and signed a letter to FTC chairman Andrew Ferguson to review the deal.

Key targets of the review would revolve around making sure that the acquisition doesn’t affect “fair, competitive labor markets” and that American jobs remain safeguarded.

Similarly, developers at some of EA’s studios, like BioWare, have also spoken about how they are worried that the company will undergo further cost-cutting to make the deal more palatable for its new owners. “I’ve been doing it since last year, but I’m making sure I have a portfolio ready and feelers out for other jobs,” said one developer. “Kind of feels like a matter of time.”

EA has suggested that players should rollback to driver version 596.49 while the Battlefield 6 team works on fixing the issues.

EA has confirmed through a social media post that the Battlefield 6 team is investigating a hardware issue affecting users of Nvidia’s RTX 50-series GPUs on current drivers. The company has advised players to temporarily roll back to driver version 596.49 in the meantime. The latest Nvidia driver is 610.74, and was released earlier this month.

The issue itself causes the GPU drivers to crash whenever they play Battlefield 6 on a map with large bodies of water. This includes one of the newest additions to the game – Tsuru Reef. EA has noted that, while not all RTX 50-series GPU users are being affected, the driver rollback is a safe option while the developers work on fixing the core issue.

“We’re investigating an issue on PC where some players may experience a GPU driver crash when playing on maps with large bodies of water, including Tsuru Reef,” said the company. “Based on our current data, the issue appears to affect Nvidia GPUs, with reports more concentrated among players using GeForce RTX 50 Series cards. The issue does not appear to affect all players using these GPUs.”

While the developers work on a fix, EA has asked players suffering from further crashes to send over details through the EA forums.

Battlefield 6 just kicked off Season 4, and in the process introduced Tsuru Reef to the shooter’s roster of multiplayer maps. The season’s launch was celebrated with the release of its intro cinematic, which set up the narrative foundation for the battle of Tsuru Reef. Leading up to its launch, Season 4 also got a gameplay deep dive trailer last week.

Details about the Tsuru Reef map were revealed earlier this month, with Battlefield Studios noting that it was part of the Season 4 push towards Naval Warfare. The new map allows players to battle it out across the land, the sea, and the air, with a variety of vehicles and weaponry at their disposal.

“Battlefield has always been about player choice. Some battlefields are designed around fast-paced infantry combat, while others provide room to maneuver, make use of vehicles, and approach objectives from different angles. Naval Warfare builds on that philosophy by expanding how players can approach every engagement.”

Tsuru Reef has been described as one of the largest maps in Battlefield 6 so far, and its core design revolves around allowing players plenty of options for how they want to engage with opponents or approach objectives. Along with direct combat-oriented options, players can also use the water around them to set up flanking positions against entrenched enemy squads.

The addition of Tsuru Reef has brought the total map count of Battlefield 6 up to 15. Since the shooter’s October 2025 release, it has also gotten plenty of new weapons, bringing the total up to 58, as well as a host of new vehicles, game modes, and seasonal events.

This is certainly a great way to kick off a desperate battle for control of regions where clever opponents make for worthy ones.

Season 4 of Battlefield 6 is almost upon us, and Battlefield Studios has gone ahead and dropped the opening cinematic. It showcases how Tsuru Reef can turn from a serenely calm, almost ethereally quiet set of islands to a chaotic frenzy of explosions and fighting as AXE tries to hold its ground against the Mondol combat unit.

It’s a hell of a start to a season that’s bringing a lot of exciting additions to Battlefield 6, which is months away from its first anniversary. We’re especially impressed by the dynamic weather systems that govern the waters you’re likely to be prowling on the down low or sailing through with all guns blazing if the heat of battle nudges you in that direction.

The new weapons are certainly going to be useful in taking back control of what’s looking like a map that could be your greatest ally, or most bitter rivals depending on what the weather’s like.

Tsuru Reef is an interesting stage, with the developers proudly showing it off a while ago ahead of the season’s release. It’s certainly a great venue for a solid debut, and with Wake Island set to follow, Battlefield 6 is looking at a fun new season.

Battlefield Studios has been quite busy making combat in these gorgeous waters intense enough for you to ignore the view.

After that trailer about naval combat in Battlefield 6, we were suspecting that a closer look was on its way. Lo and behold, it’s finally here.

Season 4 of the popular shooter is close now, and the team has indeed given us a closer look at what to expect. Two new maps are coming, with Tsuru Reef being the first to drop. This one’s got a lot of open spaces and opportunities for you to support ground assaults from the skies and seas, and is sure to have you and your opponents wondering where an attack could come from next. There’s also Wake Island, and everything it’s bringing to the table alongside new vehicles and ways to cause mayhem as you execute your strategy.

Both maps make it challenging to navigate the waters you’re sailing through. Dynamic weather systems make sailing the open seas a danger all on their own, as you’re going to have to contend with waves that could throw off your aim, or even act as shields against enemy fire if you play your cards right.

The EF-88 and the Carbine are new weapons being added to the fray, and they’re quite potent tools to have in your arsenal from what we’re seeing. All in all, there’s a lot to look forward to in the new season, and we can’t wait to ride out the waves in a desperate bid for survival.

Battlefield Studios also discussed the journey Battlefield 6 has enjoyed thanks to updates based on feedback provided by the community.

As Battlefield Studios works its way towards the launch of Battlefield 6’s fourth season, the development team has now revealed more details about some of the upcoming content, which includes the return of Naval Warfare. In a lengthy post, the studio also discussed how the shooter has changed since it first came out back in October 2025.

With three seasons’ worth of additions and the maps released with the base game, Battlefield 6 now has 15 multiplayer maps in total, along with 58 weapons, as well as a host of new vehicles, game modes, and seasonal events, among other things. Battlefield Studios has noted that much of the game’s growth is attributed to direct feedback from the game’s community.

Moving on to Season 4, which will launch on July 21st, Naval Warfare is the headlining feature thanks to the introduction of the Tsuru Reef map, which includes battles across land, sea, and air. A gameplay trailer was released earlier this week, showcasing gameplay on the map.

“Battlefield has always been about player choice. Some battlefields are designed around fast-paced infantry combat, while others provide room to maneuver, make use of vehicles, and approach objectives from different angles. Naval Warfare builds on that philosophy by expanding how players can approach every engagement,” explained Battlefield Studios.

Tsuru Reef is also slated to be one of the biggest maps in Battlefield 6 so far, and has been designed to allow players plenty of options for how they can approach objectives, be it through the use of aerial, land-based, or aquatic vehicles. The map’s design also facilitates new ways for players to flank enemy squads. More details about the map are slated to be revealed as we get closer to its release.

Battlefield Studios has also revealed some statistics about Season 3 of Battlefield 6. The team confirmed that Railway to Golmud became the most-played map in the multiplayer shooter since its arrival, with players spending more than 16 million hours in it. The second most-played map has been Season 2’s Contaminated. The Cairo Bazaar map has seen quite a bit of success, accumulating more than 5.7 million hours of gameplay despite having come only midway through Season 3.

When it comes to game modes, Obliteration has been seen as a success, with more than 413 million hours of accumulated gameplay. Ranked Battle Royale has also been doing quite well with more than 1 billion gameplay hours. Throughout all of these game modes, the M16A4 has been the most popular weapon, being deployed more than twice as many times as any other in-game weapon.

Generally speaking, all of the game modes have been quite close together in terms of popularity, with Conquest, Breakthrough, and Battle Royale all accumulating roughly 200 million gameplay hours throughout Season 3.

As for Season 4, Battlefield Studios has confirmed that the iconic Wake Island map will be making its return in Battlefield 6. More details about the map itself, as well as gameplay changes and community events, will be revealed in the coming days.

Battlefield 6 is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

We move from desolate streets to lush islands with Season 4, with the waters opening up a new way to cause mayhem on July 21st.

Battlefield 6 has sure been good at hyping up exciting additions it’s bringing, even amid dropping player numbers post-launch. We loved the run-up to Blastpoint, for instance, and the way it introduced all the cool stuff waiting for us in the streets of Cairo Bazaar.

There was also that showcase of upcoming changes to the game’s gunplay to get us hyped for Season 4’s imminent arrival. Well, that just got quite a shot in the arm with the recent trailer, which brings us a good look at what to expect when naval combat finally enters the fray. There are a bunch of different boat and weapon combinations on display, as well as how attacking from the waters adds a tactical layer to your actions on land and in the air. It all looks quite naturally woven into the gameplay loop, and we’re pretty eager to check it out for ourselves when the new season drops on July 21st.

It isn’t just the new gameplay, but the new stages that it’s unfolding on that have us excited. Tsuru Reef and Wake Island bring their own unique design and visual language, and look like they could be catalysts for improvisation and intense competition. The trailer’s below if you want to take a closer look. Remember to listen for a very familiar guitar riff at the end (spoiler: It’s Top Gun), perhaps hinting at a new collaboration. We’ll find out next week, so stay tuned.
