With how rough the reception has been to the last entries in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Black Ops franchises, Activision is going out of its way to win back fans with Modern Warfare 4. If it wasn’t obvious already, the upcoming beta will offer access to a campaign mission for the first time.
“Entrenched” follows a cadre of South Korean soldiers, and it appears to take place some time after North Korea’s invasion. Trench warfare is ever-present, whether it’s warding off assaults or using a shotgun for close encounters. This eventually gives way to piloting an Armored Personnel Carrier towards a nearby neighborhood, fighting enemies in a power grid and eventually going underground, where our old friend – explosions – awaits.
Compared to what the franchise has delivered thus far, this certainly feels more like a Call of Duty campaign. That’s not all, however, as the beta includes six Core 6v6 maps, two Ground War maps, a new Warzone Resurgence map called Zodiac, and nine modes, including Gunfight in the new Kill Block.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s beta kicks off on August 21st for pre-orders; everyone else can start playing on August 28th. The game is out on October 23rd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, although campaign advanced access begins on October 16th.
