The best Xbox One games you need to play.

While the Xbox One may be lagging behind the PS4 in terms of exclusives this year, there are still a ton of great games to be had on the console. What are some of the best Xbox One titles you should play? Let’s take a look at 30 of them below.

Note: This list is in random order.

Cuphead

The highly-praised, cup-tastic run and gun platformer Cuphead first earned notoriety for being exclusive to the Xbox One (later confirmed for Windows 10 and Steam as well). Its challenging gameplay would be another distinguishing factor but Cuphead stands out for many reasons. The Rubber hose animation style is unique and calls back to cartoons of the 40s while the boss design is great, actually leveraging the graphics to deliver compelling gameplay. If you haven’t, then Cuphead is definitely worth getting into despite its challenge.

Players can expect "at least one big surprise in there" as per studio founder Swen Vincke.

If you love computer RPGs and haven’t played Divinity: Original Sin 2, you’re missing out on one of the best games in the genre – and this year, if reviews are to go by. There’s a lot more in store though, from mods to a few “surprises” that Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke says are in store for players.

Speaking to PC Gamer about the modding community, he believes that the number of mods will only increase in the coming months. When you consider that the Steam Workshop already has 700 mods, that’s saying something.

“What I really hope is that we’re going to see adventures appear,” says Vincke about what he’d really like to see emerge. He also talked about inviting modders over to the studio’s office to create new mods within a week.

“Somebody made the Noisy Crypt, that was one of the guys that came here, he made a 40-minute adventure. I hope we’re going to see more and more of those come up because I really want adventures that we can play in co-op where I actually don’t know what the story is. That would please me tremendously.

“But again there’s already loads of really cool stuff in there. We have a couple of things that are in the works but we’ll only announce them when we’re ready. There’s stuff coming, for sure.”

As for what’s coming next for the franchise, be it a sequel or a number of sequels, Vincke said that, “We have a couple of surprises planned. But we’re going to work on the patch just now, then we’re going to work in silence for a little bit and then…yeah, I’m pretty sure there will be at least one big surprise in there.”

Could that be Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Enhanced Edition? Perhaps some free post-launch content? Time will tell but the studio has a strong record of supporting its games. The first Divinity: Original Sin received an Enhanced Edition about a year after its launch that added new quests, voice acting, improved story beats and much more.

Been wanting to play Larian Studios’ Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition on Mac, Linux or SteamOS since it launched in October for PC, PS4 and Xbox One? Well there’s good news – the Enhanced Edition of the award-winning RPG is now finally available for these platforms. The SteamOS support means you can play it on your Steam Box in the living without any issues as well.

It also seems that Larian updated the PC version to keep it “in synch with the Mac & Linux version” along with having “fixed a number of stability issues reported by players”.

Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition builds on the original release in numerous ways, adding new quests, lots of bug fixes, narrative changes, more choices and much, much more. PC users who already own the original game can receive the Enhanced Edition completely for free which is a neat bonus.

Will you be picking up Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition for Mac, Linux or SteamOS? Let us know in the comments.

Divinity: Original Sin is finally making its way over to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 as Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition, which launches on October 27. And to make sure that console gamers have gotten the memo on Larian’s award winning, critically acclaimed JRPG from last year, they’ve given us a brand new launch trailer for the game.

The launch trailer shows off the multiple enhancements that the appropriately named ‘Enhanced Edition’ brings with it to the table, including the slick and stylish interface that allows the player to seamlessly switch between inventory, spells, and skills. Each player has full control of their own UI, in and out of split-screen mode.

Featuring seamless drop in/drop out multiplayer (local and online), new difficulty modes, and a whole host of new content, Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition is definitely going to make it worth your while to gave the game a gander even on consoles- the question now is, will you do so?

Larian's Swen Vincke talks about all the new features players can look forward to.

Larian Studios is finally bringing Divinity: Original Sin to the Xbox One and PS4 with the Enhanced Edition (PC owners of the game get it for free) but this is no simple port. The Enhanced Edition will be a significant revamp of the base game with improved visuals, new quests, several new storyline additions and split-screen co-op among other features. It’s amazing to think that Larian Studios was in danger of going under when Divinity: Original Sin first appeared on Kickstarter. The project’s funding, success and the later funding of the sequel all cemented the studio and franchise, and we couldn’t be happier.

GamingBolt had a chance to speak to CEO, co-founder and creative director Swen Vincke about Divinity: Original Sin’s arrival on Xbox One and PS4, including some of the new features, the changes in story-telling and much more.

"It was already a really good game when it was released but with everything that we’ve now done with Enhanced Edition it feels like a really, really good game."

Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition marks an important step for learning game since it will feature a ton of new features. How has the road of development been thus far?

Much more extensive than we actually anticipated originally. We started working on Enhanced Edition more than a year ago and the amount of features that we’ve been adding has been tremendous. It is in our eyes actually like a new game given the amount of changes that have been done and the extra stuff that’s been to put on top of it. Development has been intense. We’ve had many people work on it and I would think it was worth it because the results now are really something to be proud of.

The Enhanced Edition will feature a heavily rewritten story with a new ending. For someone who’s never played the original game will the Enhanced Edition present a superior story or one that’s more refined in storytelling technique?

I think both. We’ve definitely added a lot of extra story moments that make the main narrative more accessible, I guess because in the previous game sometimes it was very, very terse in explaining things and on top of that we’ve changed the ending. The ending is much more rewarding than in the original game and then there’s obviously also a whole bunch of new extra additions of places where the story might have been a little bit weaker so in general I think you have a much better experience when you’re playing the Enhanced Edition compared to the original game.

The visuals for Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition have been significantly reworked as well. What can you tell us about some of the new visual effects and how they enhance the experience for veteran players?

Everything is going to feel much more rewarding I think because there’s a lot of extra animation and visual effects that have been added to the skills and spells and so forth. You also see a lot of tweaks been done in the environments. We’ve changed all of the level so that you can turn the camera three sixty degrees so that’s a lot of things and overall it makes for a better experience. So it feels all the nicer.

In an age where some developers hesitate to even give a few changes and items to their players without charging them, you’re providing what’s effectively a new game to Divinity: Original Sin owners free of cost. What motivates your decision to do so and how does help in the long run?

Obviously we’re also making a console version of Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition so it’s coming out on Xbox One and PS4 and that gives us the opportunity for doing a lot of these changes but on top of that, there’s always been the desire to make Original Sin like a really good game. It was already a really good game when it was released but with everything that we’ve now done with Enhanced Edition it feels like a really good game. And so that would have felt wrong in our opinion to charge people for it, why we went through the efforts of making sure that people who are ready have Original Sin would get a free version of the Enhanced Edition and while thats maybe not so trivial for a developer to do in our case we think that we’ve already received a lot from the community thats made Original Sin possible so we wanted to give something back to them.

"In terms of everything that’s related to the ending, well we made that more polished, finished, more rewarding so but there’s not much more that I can say about it without letting people play."

Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition will be heading to the PS4 and Xbox One later this year and marks the game’s debut on current gen consoles. How challenging was it to translate to games builds, controls and overall gameplay over to console format?

Pretty challenging. There’s actually no example out there. So we realize that we have to discover everything on their own. There’s no game that allows you to play turn based RPG in split screen with multiplayer on a console and we didn’t want to compromise on anything so we worked very hard with a lot of people on making sure that everything that you could do in the PC version would be possible in the console version and actually improve on that experience. So that was not very trivial but I think that we’ve succeeded in doing something that hopefully will not be the last time that it’s done on console. So we’ll have to see if there’s an audience for it but we’re pretty proud of the controls that we came up with.

What new game modes most can we look forward to in the Enhanced Edition? Will there be any absurdly difficult modes to keep veterans on their toes or something more unique?

Well we’ve got tactician mode which changes pretty much every single encounter to counter the strategies that we’ve been seeing used by players via YouTube or Twitch and it adds extra enemies, it gives the enemies extra tactics, it changes their AI, it gives enemies extra skills, there’s new types of enemies that you won’t see in the other modes so that’s a already pretty tough and challenging mode but not impossible. And then you got honor mode which gives you one saved game, that’s very tough.

Divinity: Original Sin has received praise for its freedom of choice in the wide ranging consequences of one’s decisions. How does the new quest content play into the overarching decisions that players can make and was it a challenge to balance all these extra variables against the original story plan?

Well the things that we’ve done where we’ve added extra contents it’s actually been more a case of replacing content, content that we felt was weaker and so we made it better. So it wasn’t that hard to plug it in. In terms of everything that’s related to the ending, well we made that more polished, finished, more rewarding so but there’s not much more that I can say about it without letting people play. So throughout all of that of course we ensured that the freedom of choice, that feeling that you’re like playing a pen and paper game on your computer has not changed.

Will the console versions of Divinity: Original Sin feature game editors so players can create their own content?

No. That would’ve been really tough for us to do. So there’s no editor for people who have the console version.

"It’s going to run at 1080p at 30fps. That is because we don’t want to differentiate between split screen and the main mode."

Are there any other improvements in the Enhanced Edition that we look forward to and that haven’t really been talked about yet?

Hot man, there’s so many. There’s…it goes from little things like magic pockets that automatically work for instance if you try to dig up a grave it will automatically take the shovel from any party member that has a shovel in his inventory to all the tweaks that have been done to the skills, all the balancing changes that have been done, the new skills that have been introduced, things like ones like duel wielding, the better crafting system; there’s really a lot of things that have been added to the game and we think that when people are going to play it, even if they already played the original game they’re really going to enjoy it. I certainly have no problem replaying the game after actually having played it already for many times. I still entertain myself by the amount of possibilities that are just present in the game.

What’s the current status of the Enhanced Edition? How much closer is the game to release date at this point?

At this point it’s pretty much already. We’re going through the bug fixing stage but we’re yeah we’re very close to ready actually. As I’m doing this interview, gold master candidates are flying around here for the console versions. For the PC versions we still have some work but I see that they are getting finished pretty soon too.

Is game going to run at 1080p and 60 FPS on both PS4 and Xbox One?

No. It’s going to run at 1080p at 30fps. That is because we don’t want to differentiate between split screen and the main mode. You have drop in, drop out multiplayer. People can just jump in with a second controller and start playing in split screen mode that runs at 30 fps.

Talking about the Xbox One version have you been able to take advantage of the SDK update that allows developers to use the seventh core for more processing power? If yes, in what way has this benefited development?

Yes, we are using it. [On benefits] Not a lot apparently but we are using it. You can only use 60 or 70% of it so that is not big of a difference. Essentially it won’t make much of an impact

"It is a game that might take couple of minutes to pick up but once you have it in your hands there’s so much cool stuff that you can do it."

A lot of developers face development issues due to the Xbox One’s esRAM. Did you face anything similar?

We had experience with it with the Xbox 360 but we had to make some changes to cope with it. But in general we managed to achieve the same frame rate as that of the PS4 and we managed to engineer our way around it.

Is there anything else you want to tell us before we let you go?

Thank you very much for taking an interest in the Enhanced Edition. Be sure to check it out. It’s definitely a very cool product. Maybe I should have mentioned that we went through the trouble of voice recording everything so we have around eighty eight thousand lines of dialogue that have been recorded for the game. This has obviously given the game a much more finished feel and so if you have a chance try it out you will not regret it. It is a game that might take couple of minutes to pick up but once you have it in your hands there’s so much cool stuff that you can do in it.

Larian's enhanced port of the hit PC RPG finally has a release date.

Divinity: Original Sin – Enhanced Edition finally has a release date. Larian Studios told Eurogamer that the updated edition of the hit RPG would be out on October 27th.

The Enhanced Edition is essentially the console port for Divinity: Original Sin which will be out on PS4 and Xbox One (a free update for the same will be made available to pre-existing PC players). Along with an overhaul to the graphics and various new additions to the story, quests, etc. the Enhanced Edition will introduce split-screen co-op for players. This means that each player can embark on their own separate journey if they so please.

Divinity: Original Sin – Enhanced Edition was pegged to release in October but it wasn’t completely sure whether it would hit its target. Now that it’s out this month, it seems console players will have a chance to finally experience the hit PC RPG for themselves.

Will you be picking up the Enhanced Edition when it releases later this month? Let us know in the comments.

Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios on developing Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition on Xbox One.

Update: The title was updated to correctly match the article below.

Larian Studios’ Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition is due for the PS4 and Xbox One later this year. GamingBolt recently got in touch with Swen Vincke, who is the co-founder, CEO and creative director of Larian Studios and asked him a few questions regarding the Xbox One version of the game.

Was the development team able to take advantage of the SDK update that allows developers to use the 7th core for more processing power and whether it has benefited the development? Swen confirmed that they are indeed using it however developers can only access 60-70% of the core so it has not impacted development in a big way.

“Yes, we are using it. [On benefits] Not a lot apparently but we are using it. You can only use 60 or 70% of it so that is not big of a difference. Essentially it won’t make much of an impact,” Swen stated to GamingBolt. A lot of developers faced development issues due to the Xbox One’s eSRAM. Did Larian Studios faced anything similar while working on Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition?

“We had experience with it with the Xbox 360 but we had to make some changes to cope with it. But in general we managed to achieve the same frame rate as that of the PS4 and we managed to engineer our way around it.”

Earlier it was confirmed that both the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition will run at 1080p and 30 frames per second. Stay tuned for our full interview with Swen soon.

Larian Studios' Swen Vincke says it's due to the split-screen multiplayer.

Larian Studios’ Divinity: Original Sin is one of the best RPGs released in the past several years and console players will finally be able to experience it when the Enhanced Edition releases next month. There are numerous improvements, both visual and gameplay-wise, and Larian has ensured that the game runs at 1080p resolution on both consoles.

However, the frame rate is capped at 30 FPS rather than going to 60 FPS. Swen Vincke, who is co-founder, CEO and creative director of Larian Studios, explained why when speaking to GamingBolt. It’s due to the split-screen co-op mode.

On being asked whether Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition runs at 60 FPS on PS4 and Xbox One, Vincke stated, “No. It’s going to run at 1080p at 30fps. That is because we don’t want to differentiate between split screen and the main mode. You have drop in, drop out multiplayer. People can just jump in with a second controller and start playing in split screen mode that runs at 30 fps.”

Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition is out in October for PS4 and Xbox One. It will also be made available as a free update for owners of the PC version. Stay tuned for our full interview with Swen in the coming days.

Check out how co-op works in Larian's upcoming RPG.

Larian Studios continues its development on Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. A new trailer released today reveals how the co-op in the game will work, especially on consoles. Check it out below.

The Enhanced Edition of Divinity: Original Sin will allow two players to share screen space but dynamically splits when they go their separate ways. There are no loading screens while exploring the world and the UI and controls have been optimized for consoles.

The overall co-op mechanic also introduces some intriguing new gameplay choices as you decide on what tactics to use in battles and a rock-paper-scissors feature to help resolve any dissension between players.

Of course, there are several other awesome new additions with the Enhanced Edition including new quests, new story options, improved visuals and much more. Check it out when it releases on Xbox One and PS4 in October. PC users who own the original game will receive the Enhanced Edition as a separate game completely free.
