Janina Gavankar, who played Iden Versio, seems to be teasing a new Star Wars game.

Nearly three and a half years on from its release, Star Wars Battlefront 2 – thanks to a remarkable post-launch recovery following the terrible start it got off to – is going stronger than ever. Considering the fact that support for the game by way of new content ended nearly a year ago, that’s rather impressive. Now, however, it seems a follow-up might be in the works.

As spotted by a ResetEra user, it seems Janina Gavankar, the actor who played Battlefront 2 protagonist Iden Versio, is teasing a new game. Gavankar recently took to Twitter, and responding to a question by a fan, seemingly hinted at a new game starring Iden Versio set around the time of the events being portrayed in the ongoing TV series, The Mandalorian. In the same tweet, she also tagged Mitch Dyer and Walt Williams, both of whom were writers on Battlefront 2.

Meanwhile, both Gavankar and TJ Ramini – who portrayed Del Meeko in Battlefront 2 – recently also posted pictures to Twitter of motion capture gear, suggesting that recording of the game in question might be underway as well.

While all these Twitter posts by themselves might not amount to much more than circumstantial coincidences, they do seem to be very strongly hinting at a new game starring the Inferno Squad set during the time of The Mandalorian. Meanwhile, recently, EA confirmed that there are multiple new unannounced Star Wars games being developed.

Whatever comes of this (if something does), we’ll keep you updated, so stay tuned.

The PC closed alpha for Battlefield V kicked off yesterday, which means quite a few players have been able to try the game out for the first time. Since there is no Non-Disclosure Agreement in place for the closed alpha, a new gameplay video has surfaced which gives us a glimpse of what the game looks like.

The gameplay showcases the Conquest mode as well as the ‘Fall of Norway’ campaign. The gameplay is also recorded at 1080p and at 60 fps so it looks great. The game looks visually stunning, with the azure skies and the many explosions of planes above. The action looks fun as well, and it will probably feel even better to actually play it. Hopefully, more gameplay videos will be released soon enough which will showcase some more diverse gameplay scenarious along with some different environments.

You can check out the gameplay footage below. Battlefield V is set to release for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 19.

Everything you need to know about Battlefield 1.

Battlefiedl 1 is a first person shooter that is set in World War I. The game was developed by EA Dice and published by Electronic Arts. Despite the fact that the game is titled Battlefield 1, this is the 15th installment in the very long running series. This title is also the first game set in World War I since 1994’s Wings of Glory.

The game was officially released for the PS4, Xbox One and PC on October 21, 2016.

+ Quick Jump To

1. Development

2.

In June of 2015, DICE announced it was working on a new game. While many people knew it was likely to be another Battlefield game, the setting and the specifics were kept secret. In January of 2016, EA announced a new Mass Effect, Titanfall 2 and an untitled Battlefield game would all be released before the end of the fiscal year. The game was officially announced on May 6, 2016 after a number of leaks had hinted at the game’s name and setting. An official trailer was used as the way to announce the game using scenes from the game and music from the remixed Seven Nation Army song from the Glitchmob.

Battlefield 1 had an open beta which began on August 31, 2016 and ended on September 8, 2016. The beta was supposed to help iron out any bugs and glitches that might be in the game just a few months before it was set to be released. The game was also released early, with part of the multiplayer and single player modes several days early through the EA Access program. The game was officially released on October 21, 2016 on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Story

Battlefield 1 tells a World War 1 story by blending several different stories together. These stories are a separate set of missions that eventually come together to create the entire game. Through these stories players take on the role of several different soldiers from a bunch of different countries and locations that were all involved in the “great war.”

The prologue to all of these stories is called Storm of Steel and puts the player in the role of a Harlem Hellfighter. The fighters are going up against waves of german soldiers and must try to survive as much as possible. If the player does indeed die, the story is told from a different perspective and a different soldier. This continues until the player eventually finishes the prologue and that opens to the other stories.

Through Mud and Blood is a story that centers around Danny Edwards, who is a former limousine driver who enlists in the war as a tank driver. The story is set in and around the Battle of Cambrai during the Hundred Days Offensive. Edwards and the rest of the tank crew are assigned to power through German lines during this offensive. As the battle rages, the player will meet and get to know the other members of the tank brigade and along the way you’ll have to make some decisions that could put everyone in danger.

Friends in High Places puts players in the role of Clyde Blackburn, who is an American pilot who steals the plane and the identity of a British pilot. This story is set in the spring of 1917 and eventually it has players flying a plane in order to escort larger bombers into enemy territory so they drop their payload.

Avanti Savoia has players taking on the role of an Italian soldier and talking about battles that took place in the fall of 1918. This story is told through the perspective of Luca Vincenzo Cocchiola as he is sitting around telling his children about what happened in that war.

While all of these stories end up painting a broader picture of World War I, they do not ever intertwine with one another. Instead, they are their own standalone stories that are meant to show people just how World War 1 affected such a massive portion of the world.

Gameplay

As are the other games in this long-running series, Battlefield 1 is a first-person shooter that allows users to use a variety of weapons. For this game, those weapons are all centered on what was available during World War I. There are various vehicles that can be used as well including tanks and planes.

The game’s developers have said that the title’s environment are more open and changeable than they have been in past iterations. This is, at least in part demonstrated by the fact that everything is destructible. This means that if you are rolling through a war-torn village in a tank and cannot find a path through town, you can make one by rolling over buildings and other debris.

The game’s multiplayer mode is designed to be able to support up to 64 people at once. It also has something known as a squad system. This allows players to join and leave a server together. The modes that are included in the multiplayer function are Conquest, Domination, Operations, Rush, Team Deathmatch, and War Pigeons.

Characters

Danny Edwards, several Harlem Hellfighters, Clyde Blackburn are some of the playable characters that are featured in Battlefield 1. In addition to the playable characters, there are a ton of named and unnamed NPCs that will play important parts as the story unfolds. There is even one part of the story where players will take on the role of a pigeon, in order to try and win a battle.

Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game

PC fans of EA DICE’s Battlefield franchise must be sitting on the edge of their seats right now, with the game’s beta set to launch tomorrow. Overclock3D got access early, and they were generous enough to share the beta’s graphical options, and the studio is apparently giving players a lot of settings to toy with.

Most importantly is the fact it supports DirectX 12, with a toggle to choose either to switch it on or off. This is not brand new, since Battlefield 1’s earlier closed-alpha players reported the presence of DirectX 12 support in the game. The graphics options enable you to change the quality of almost everything you see such as the texture, terrain, lighting, mesh and more.

You will also be able to choose between low, medium, high, and for those who have the capability, ultra settings. Battlefield 1 releases on PS4, PC, and Xbox One on October 21st.

Battlefield 1's open beta is going to feature weapons with multiple variations.

EA DICE’s upcoming iteration of the Battlefield franchise, Battlefield 1, is still months away from full release, however, this doesn’t mean we can’t get to experience some World War I action during the game’s open beta period soon enough.

The studio already revealed the map and the modes available for participants, and now it’s time to introduce you to the weapons you’ll be allowed to use. Battlefield Bulletin were able to spot and share several new images, showcasing different weapons and their respective variations.

The weapons featured include the MP 18, Cel-Rigotti, Lewis Gun, Madsen MG and more, with each of them having more than one variation to choose from. The variations include Experimental, Artillery, Trench, Factory, Heavy and Sharpshooter. Thanks to Reddit user R_MA, we were able to find out the differences between them.

Experimental = Weapons with special, “experimental” features. For example, MP18 Experimental is burst fire instead of Automatic.

Artillery = Weapons that are scoped, IIRC, and have better accuracy.

Trench = Weapons that have better hip fire.

Factory = Base weapons with no modifications/atttachments.

Heavy = Shotguns with better accuracy, but bad hip fire, with a slight reduction in damage.

Sharpshooter = Weapons with better control.

Battlefield 1 releases on October 21st for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with the game’s open beta kicking off in a couple of days.

Microsoft continues to be flogged, despite the Xbox One nearly months from release.

Microsoft announced yesterday that the Xbox One would be launching in November in 13 markets rather than the earlier stated 21, with most countries in Europe such as Sweden, Belgium and Denmark among others and Russia receiving it in early 2014.

Consumers of the respective countries aren’t the only ones annoyed about it. Battlefield 4 developer DICE is based in Sweden, for instance, and lead core gameplay design director Alan Kertz took to Twitter to voice his disapproval.

I see Microsoft seems intent on making it easier and easier to pick #PS4 for Gen4 in Sweden.

— Alan Kertz (@Demize99) August 15, 2013

As for claims of “localizing” the console for local languages, Kertz stated that:

@JoshuaGWilson_ Being an expat in Sweden. EVERYONE SPEAKS ENGLISH HERE. And the locals HATE the Swedish translations.

— Alan Kertz (@Demize99) August 15, 2013

He wasn’t alone, as lead gameplay designer Gustav Halling stated that Sweden always bought what was hot and now, that will be the PlayStation 4.

Not sure what @Xbox is thinking when not launching in a progressive country like Sweden, we always buy what is hot and that will be PS4..

— Gustav Halling (@gustavhalling) August 15, 2013

Halling also stated that though he will be getting a console, he may be one of the few after the delay.

@Death2Rum @Xbox I'm still getting a XboxOne but I'm one of the few after this. Might buy a ps4 also, we will see.

— Gustav Halling (@gustavhalling) August 15, 2013

One has to pity Microsoft at this point: After announcing the Xbox One, the company was skewered for what were viewed as draconian DRM policies and lack of enthusiasm in indie developers. Microsoft has been back-tracking on every single one of its policies since then, including Kinect no longer being mandatory for playing on the console. How badly will this affect the console’s standing in Europe and Russia? We’ll find out in the coming months.

Frostbite 3 is awesome

EA has released a brand new video that showcases the Frostbite 3 engine. In the video, the developers discuss how the new engine allows them to create next-generation experiences with advanced features. One of the most impressive features in Battlefield 4 is the ability to destroy tall buildings or even dams during multiplayer maps that create a whole new level of strategy for large-scale maps.

Frostbite 3 is quite an impressive engine, and it’s really exciting to see how developers will use Frostbite 3 to develop new experiences for players to enjoy. Dragon Age: Inquisition, Need for Speed: Rivals, Battlefield 4 and the next Mass Effect are all using the Frostbite 3 engine. I personally cannot wait to see how next-generation titles will look, feel and play on next-generation platforms.

Let us know which Frostbite 3 title you’re looking forward to playing next in the comments below.

Director Johan Andersson disparages talk of the engine running on Wii U at some point.

It was recently revealed today that Disney Interactive is tying up with EA to create a few new “core” Star Wars games. Studios on the project include Digital Illusions CE of Battlefield and Mirror’s Edge fame, along with Visceral Games, who worked on Army of TWO and Dead Space.

DICE director Johan Andersson revealed that the new Star Wars games would be built on Frostbite 3, the new engine that debuted with Battlefield 4 and which will make its way to Dragon Age 3 and the next Mass Effect. This lead to a user on Twitter stating that the games wouldn’t run on the Wii U, “despite the fact Frostbite 3 was running on the platform initially and then halted”.

This prompted a response from Andersson who clarified just why we wouldn’t be seeing a Wii U version of any Frostbite 3 engine game any time soon.

@mutedpenguin FB3 has never been running on WiiU. We did some tests with not too promising results with FB2 & chose not to go down that path

— Johan Andersson (@repi) May 6, 2013

Stay tuned for more details on the upcoming Star Wars titles.

And oh my goodness, is there a lot of "meh".

So Battlefield 4 finally premiered at this year’s Game Developer Conference. If you’ve enjoyed Battlefield 3 but can’t for the dickens of you remember what it was about – except that it was better than Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s storyline, in which you’re correct – then obviously you’d be curious as to what the single-player component of Battlefield 4 contains, right?

The footage shown at GDC 2013 was just that – a prologue mission from the Campaign – but more than anything, served to showcase how the game looks. And we won’t lie – it’s gorgeous. Insanely detailed and just flat out gorgeous in a way that made us sit up unlike, say, Killzone: Shadow Fall that made us tilt our heads in slight confusion.

However, this is still a game, not a tech demo. And while we’re not going to be judging the entire game based on a simple 17 minute trailer, it was DICE’s opportunity to show us how much Battlefield had evolved in the leap from 3 to 4, from Frostbite 2 to Frostbite 3. So first, we’ll get to…

The Good

But seriously, have you seen this game? It is just gorgeous.

And it’s gorgeous in a way that doesn’t overwhelm. The draw distance is incredible, only limited to what you can see with the naked eye. While DICE have stuck to the same dilapidated buildings and the moss-grown, worn out factories we’ve been seeing for years now, hot damn do they fill them with nuanced detail. Just the sight of the multitude of birds en route to the factory? Beautiful.

Of course, other improvements include the sound. A minimalist approach to the music was taken – which we couldn’t be more thankful for, since it highlights the incredible effects emanating from the guns, explosions and so much more. The world feels alive in Battlefield 4 and whether it’s the creaking of floorboards under your feet or the tumbling of enormous pillars as you plummet to your doom, the sound plays a huge role.

The Bad

We’d hate to nit-pick on this – but we will. Exactly what has changed with Battlefield 4? We have the obligatory vehicle sequences, running past a helicopter as it sprays bullets at you, the bullet time moment of taking down said helicopter, the rote “shock and awe” moment of having to lop off our comrade’s leg – everything just feels so paint by the numbers But worse, we’ve seen it all before. The shooting, the weapons, even the depth of destructibility.

No matter how good the game looks, it is impossible to deny that it doesn’t put forth anything new based on the 17 minutes of footage we saw. Yes, there could be some new, intriguing mechanic we don’t know of yet, but the basic running and gunning looks and feels like the same game we’ve been playing for a while now.

The Meh

And now we come to easily the saddest part about the Battlefield 4 footage – it was okay. Don’t get us wrong. It’s gorgeous, insanely detailed and a living, breathing world. But then so was Crysis 3. Want to know what separated that game from something like, say, Tomb Raider or even Far Cry 3? Gameplay. Oodles and oodles of gameplay and possibilities.

Battlefield 4 looks like it retains the same linear, overtly scripted approach of its predecessor. Honestly, were there any paths you could diverge from in the prologue mission? More importantly, have you not done the same things before in other shooters? A case could be made for games like Spec Ops: The Line, which present the same time-worn gameplay but still manage to keep things fresh and interesting with their stories and the sheer unpredictability of some missions.

So far, Battlefield 4 is a really good-looking FPS – and while that’s not enough to go on right now, Battlefield 3 was also a really good looking FPS. And that game’s single-player campaign was just bland and boring.

Of course, this is only for the single-player. We’re not counting the one, single factor that made Battlefield 3 the enormous success that it so rightly was – the multiplayer. And given the number of additions and modes that its predecessor received, there’s no doubt that Battlefield 4 will work hard to one-up it (with naval combat being hinted at – imagine the possibilities for Conquest mode).

But as it stands, unless DICE has some serious twists and turns up its sleeve, Battlefield 4 will be following the third game too closely for comfort.

Could Battlefield be preparing for another showdown with Call of Duty?

Just one day ahead of its full official reveal at the Game Developers Conference 2013, the hype surrounding Digital Illusions CE’s Battlefield 4 is still huge. This is despite information that the game may not be coming to next generation consoles after all, as source code on the teaser site showcased otherwise.

However, we do know: EA may not be giving up its desire to compete with that other big military shooter, if a recent of leaked pre-order posters as any indication.

The posters, posted by Gamersky, indicate that gamers can pre-order the game and receive a pair of real Battlefield 4 dog tags. Below this image is the indicated release date: Fall 2013. If the next Call of Duty indeed does release this year, it will landing around the same time.

We won’t say it’s real, but if so, it would make plenty of sense to have it release around that time. Even more so, it still keeps hopes alive that Battlefield 4 may yet release for the next generation of consoles.
