We knew this one was going to be well-received thanks to the franchise’s recent successes, but it looks like this one’s where it truly begins to shine.

We’ve been quite excited to dive right into EA Sports College Football 27, what with that promising Dynasty overhaul and so much more to offer already on the table ahead of its July 9, 2026, release. But the true enthusiasts among us are probably already enjoying MVP+ early access, with Deluxe Edition and MVP Bundle early access set to begin on July 6, 2026.

It’s been long enough for early impressions of the game to begin circling around, and we’ve been quite thrilled that there’s been a general positive tone to a lot of them. We knew this one was going to be a big swing, but now that it’s in the hands of a few players who love the franchise enough to pay a premium for a head start, the conversation has moved from its legacy to what it’s actually bringing to the table.

Those early impressions by players on Reddit and other forums point to a gameplay loop that’s improving in ways that matter, making this one ending up being stronger than expected. Let’s dive right into why we feel that’s the case here.

Timing And Style

Like the athletes you’re going to be controlling, College Football 27 is now beginning its journey at the peak of its pre-launch window. Early access to the game has begun to generate impressions and player reactions that will soon become the foundations of its narrative, while acting as a self-sustaining hype engine right up until the global launch. The game’s now directly in the hands of the people it was made for, which takes praise past what EA has been pitching, to be replaced by opinions that automatically carry more weight.

They’re not full impressions, obviously, which are sure to come along fairly quickly in the next few days. But the kind of early-access feedback a game like this one gets is certainly a strong indicator of where College Football 27 is headed. The comparison with Madden 27 is inevitable, but College Football 27 is selling a different fantasy. Madden’s focus is different, and the resulting experience is about the NFL product itself.

But CF27 goes beyond just picking the best athletes and teams. It’s about building an entire program while contending with variables like loyalty, budgets, reviving reputations, building them, and eventually making your chosen alma mater a powerhouse that other teams would think twice about taking on. It brings a sense of identity and legacy building that makes it a more addictive option, while its mechanics have been strong enough to sell a gameplay loop that supports its vision very well.

And that’s where the early impressions that are coming in count, as they’re painting a picture that aligns with a lot of what was already expected of CF27, while bringing interesting new wrinkles into the current discourse around it.

Gameplay Feels More Deliberate

At the end of the day, an athlete or professional coach is always going to hope that their present day was ever so slightly better than the previous one. But as a new addition to the franchise that’s been aiming to bet big on everything that’s good about it, CF27 carries the weight of every aspiring athlete or coach looking to become a thriving part of its player base and keep it alive by enjoying all it has to offer. It’s quite symbiotic if you think about it, and the only way that works is if the gameplay loop on offer does its job well.

Well, chatter about the game from players, which isn’t an indicator of a game’s quality on its own, points to what they’re noticing from a few hours with the game. There’s a lot of praise being directed at the running and player movement system that feels more deliberate than before, a less spammy approach to games, systems designed to make Football IQ matter more in the game’s balancing, pre-snap controls, and better defensive options this time around.

We already knew that defensive playbooks were being expanded quite significantly, with twenty-two new ones being added to give us all more options to choose from. It seems that it’s a move that’s being well-received, with early player reactions to it praising tighter coverage, meaningful defensive adjustments, improved CPU behavior, and better pursuits. Of course, instances of CPU playcalling, familiar AI issues, and edge pressure have also been pointed out, but if those early impressions hold, it’s definitely a huge win for the overall experience on offer.

It changes the way offensive options must be used, giving a fresh new layer to an experience that runs the risk of feeling too familiar after a couple of annual iterations. It’s often where football knowledge and the presence of mind to execute inventive plays come in as a valuable advantage and a layer of immersion that makes each facet of the experience shine brighter as a result. It affects the challenge on offer, how realistic the simulation can feel, completely switches things up on the online play front, and is an opportunity to move past broken plays with creative solutions.

All of these are parameters that are important to a sports simulator, and in one like CF27, they’re sure to work in tandem with everything else it’s bringing to the table to be a solid base upon which the franchise itself could build its future. This one is more than a list of gameplay improvements, and it’s important to consider its big guns too.

Familiar Modes With Fresh Touches

We’ve spoken at length about how the new and improved Dynasty Mode is potentially the biggest addition that this one is bringing to the franchise formula. That hasn’t changed, even in the light of all the new information, since it’s where the core of the experience resides. It’s where CF27 has long-term replayability, with its program identity and limited resource availability making the simulation part of things go beyond merely looking at a single season’s worth of performances.

There’s already player feedback about tougher rebuilds and more meaningful choices being a part of things, but we’re going to confirm those with a full-launch review before we comment on that. But there’s also Road to Glory to consider, which takes over the personal side of the Dynasty fantasy that its respective mode handles. The deep dives that EA has given us so far indicate there’s a lot to like here, and new positions like the Edge Rusher are very interesting additions.

Position-specific mechanics are a thing now, and they automatically make things more engaging and immersive, where the mode could have felt a little passive in its previous iterations. We’ve also got to remember that the franchise is finally available to PC players on launch, which is another reason to believe that this year’s going to be different for it as it makes a bold play at the fame and fortune it makes you chase down in your role as a part of its world.

A fun touch that we really appreciated is Mascot Mashup, a fun returning facet that we found makes playing mascots feel automatically personal, and just a nifty addition that had us spending way more time with it than we expected in the past. We’re hoping things are even better this time around.

Optimistic, Yet Careful

That’s exactly what we’re advising as things stand, as there are a few players who reportedly feel like the game is a significant update but could fall short of the reinvention we’re all hoping it’s going to be. There are also concerns about monetization problems on Ultimate Team and about balancing NIL and Dynasty to ensure long-term viability. AI issues and CPU playcalling are factors that need extensive testing before it can be established that they’re a serious flaw or a minor annoyance.

Those problems can easily pile up and derail even the best of the game’s new additions, becoming beacons for criticism rather than minor details that fade away in the grand scheme of positives to love about the overall experience. Of course, there are going to be updates and post-launch support, but early impressions matter, and that’s probably even more so for a game that’s already this popular.

As is the case with EA titles, it’s always good to wait for the entirety of the game’s community to begin engaging with it, as that’s usually where the cracks begin to show. But things are looking undeniably good for a title that’s seemingly strived hard to set itself apart, earning our goodwill in the process.

How much of that effort stands to be validated is still up in the air at this point, but we’re thinking that College Football 27 has some momentum in its favor. We’re already working on a full review of it all, and you can be sure we’ll be answering all your burning questions in that one.

Until then, perhaps we might meet again on the field!

With a new entry in the EA Sports College Football coming out soon, here are the biggest differences between it and last year's entry.

College Football 27 doesn’t reinvent the series outright, but it does introduce plenty of meaningful improvements across almost every facet of the experience. Whether you’re building a dynasty, creating your dream athlete, or soaking up the pageantry and atmosphere on game day, this year’s entry authentically pushes beyond last year’s offering with confidence. Here are fifteen of the biggest differences EA Sports College Football 27 is bringing over last year.

Dynasty Places Greater Emphasis on Coach’s Role

Like last year’s iteration, Dynasty Mode remains built around your coaching decisions, but College Football 27 asks you to mould your program around each school’s expectations and values. See, each school now has a clearer identity, shaped by organisational priorities, how much patience the board has for your process, and what the fans believe is important – winning a championship or getting one-over on your rivals, for instance. Your role as the coach is still central, yet College Football 27 brings new levels of external pressure.

Expectations Evolve as Your Program Progresses

And, your chosen school’s expectations aren’t set in stone. No, as your program progresses, so does their expectation of you, with evolutions determined by both the fanbase and the Athletic Director. Of course, if you’re doing well, projections rise, but if you’re underperforming then patience wanes. Yet, College Football 27 brings more nuance than a simple, binary up-or-down. Each success becomes a new baseline, yes, but each school’s demeanor dictates how responsive they are to success or failure too. For example, priorities can shift from winning championships to becoming a class-leader in recruitment. Furthermore, you can forge an elite team, but if you keep losing to your state rivals the fans will demand change.

All-New Dynasty Blueprints Finetune Program Control

While the Athletic Director’s expectations shape what success means at your school, College Football 27 introduces Dynasty Blueprints to put you in greater control of how you achieve this success. Here, Dynasty Points can be spent across three areas: coaching staff, school facilities, and Name, Image, Likeness (NIL). Investing in backroom staff streamlines your program’s efficiency, while spending on facilities supports long-term player development. Focusing on NIL gives you greater leverage to compete for the strongest talent, but no-two schools are the same. Blueprints are part of a wider program-building puzzle, but taken in isolation they highlight obstacles standing between your program and the Athletic Director’s expectations.

Scholarships No Longer Available in Pre-Season

As NIL has grown into a more significant roster-building, decision-making process with this year’s iteration, scholarships can no longer be offered during pre-season. See, real-life College Football has seen a rise in prospects who understand the terms they can command even before arriving on campus, with anticipated NIL influenced by star rating, position, school prestige, and so on. Mirroring this in-game, NIL is more of a long-term commitment, with scholarships now tied to your program’s ever-shifting expectations. For this reason, pre-season is now entirely focused on scouting, with the aim being for you to better identify targets that fit your program and then shaping NIL around your budgets and expectations.

My School Sees Expansion

Like last year, My School grades in College Football 27 continue to define your program’s potential, impacting recruitment, player management, and more. However, this year’s iteration expands and updates several My School grades in three key areas: Brand Exposure now tracks a school’s progress over a rolling five-year timeframe, while Championship Contender assesses your rank and rating to outline how likely you are to reach the championship finals in your present guise. Proximity to Home better calculates a precise distance between a recruit’s home and your school, giving you a major recruitment advantage for home-state players.

Weekly Practice Plans Bring Finer Control Over Wear and Tear

While College Football 26 allows you to test out plays and evaluate squad depth via Free Practice, College Football 27 brings more structured control to managing your roster. Weekly Practice Plans govern recovery times and practice limits, and can be customised player-by-player. And because you can adjust each individual player’s practice plan, College Football 27 allows you to carefully manage wear and tear, reducing the risk of injury.

Two New Coaching Archetypes

Coaching in earlier College Football games was built around the premise that no coach can be great at everything. And, while that philosophy still underpins your program’s progress in College Football 27, this year’s version introduces two new coaching archetypes: Visionary and Rainmaker. Available with pre-orders of College Football 27 or Madden NFL 27, Visionary tracks long-term career growth and professional potential through exclusive abilities that let you maximise practice sessions through deeper control over players preparation, recovery, and development. Rainmaker, available to MVP+ Members, hones in on Dynasty Blueprints, focusing on NIL, Dynasty Points, and making the most from your school’s resources.

College Football 27 Introduces Major Presentation Overhauls

As we mentioned in our already published “15 Things to Know” feature, one of the overarching improvements EA Sports is focusing on is more authenticity. This year, they’re ramping up the pageantry, atmosphere, and pre-match traditions, embellishing the individual personality of each school. Unique entrances, mascots, lighting, runout pyros, band tunnels, detailed traditions, crowd chants – College Football 27 brings plentiful updates to game-day atmosphere, ensuring that the presentation is more authentic and immersive compared to last year.

Rivalries Have Been Enhanced

College Football 27 understands that big games hold a certain gravitas, and a school playing against their rival is one-such event. This year, the energy, the tension, and the atmosphere of a rivalry matchup has been intensified: commentary describes their history, rival trophies become available for winning a big game, and more aggressive, tempestuous animations support the rival games’ greater emotional weight.

Road to Glory Brings a New Presentation Style

A standout addition to College Football 27’s Road to Glory mode is an all-new presentation style which gives you a player’s eye-view of the action direct from the sideline. You’ll still experience the runout, the pageantry, traditions, and fan atmosphere, but for those moments you’re on the sideline you can observe the play, adjusting camera angles to get as immersive a view of the game as possible.

College Football 27 Features a New Broadcast Package

To make College Football 27’s TV broadcast match a real-life telecast, this year’s version features an all-new package. New visuals, banners, action shots, and playcall panels offer new ways to support the game’s emerging stories, while halftime show overhauls, commentary support, and refined camera framing boost authenticity. The broadcast team now includes ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe, who’ll provide updates on injuries, weather, individual performances, and more. Elsewhere, Joel Klatt joins the commentary team, with the booth on-the-whole bringing a stronger awareness of the on-field action.

Max Potential Redefines Custom Athlete Growth

In College Football 26, Player Potential was divided into three tiers – low, medium, and high – with each determining your player’s long-term ceiling. This year, that system has been replaced by Max Potential, giving you direct control over how high each of your custom athlete’s attributes can realistically develop. Working in tandem with Physique customisation, your chosen physical attributes establish a theoretical upper limit while Max Potential determines how much of that limit your player can eventually reach. Because raising attributes consumes a limited pool of points – and elite ratings become increasingly expensive to obtain – you’ll need to make meaningful trade-offs when shaping your build, creating a far more flexible and personalised progression system compared to last year. However, the real innovation over College Football 26’s more rigid archetype structure is Max Potential allows your player’s identity to emerge naturally from your investment decisions rather than being locked in from the outset.

Legends Templates are New Preset Player Builders

Yet, if you want to hit the ground running with an established foundation for your custom athlete, you can select an all-new Legend Template. These are preset player builds derived from the physical traits, archetypes, playstyles, and attributes of real-life College Football icons. Each Legend Template outlines a Max Potential allocation, so the long-term development strategies born out of wholly custom athletes are still replicated. In other words: you can shape a legendary athlete into the type of player you want them to become.

Mental Abilities Now Tied to Off-Field Decisions

College Football 26’s mental abilities functioned as fixed gameplay perks, remaining static throughout a career. College Football 27 now ties mental abilities to off-field activities, making the decisions you make during the week far more impactful on gameday. They’re upgradeable too, beginning at bronze tier, all the way through to platinum, with you progressing through each level by completing gameplay goals and objectives.

Coach Mode is a New Way to Play

An altogether different type of simulation, College Football 27’s new Coach Mode allows you to experience the action from the perspective of the person managing on the sideline. When enabled, the CPU handles the post-snap gameplay, leaving you to focus on the pre-snap decisions real coaches make and experience the pressure that goes with it. It’s a mode that places far less emphasis on stick skill and more about planning, strategising, and sequencing your squad, and it’s a mode EA Sports is looking to support post-release with new camera angles and immersive tools.

This new series of updates is a great way to keep us in the loop about what’s coming to our favorite shooter, including upcoming changes.

Battlefield 6 has just dropped the first in a new series of updates about what’s cooking in the studio, and what to expect as it attempts to refine the gameplay loop to make the shooter the best possible version of an already solid title.

EA’s best-seller of last year is continuing to evolve, and this new peek at all the changes it’s bringing to the table is all about your guns and the way you’re encouraged to use them. Beginning with a more refined recoil system geared towards making weapons feel as close to the real thing as possible, there are also changes to how each weapon feels in your hands that could make choosing between them a real challenge. There are adjustments to your time-to-kill, with different body parts on your enemies getting either a buff or a nerf to the damage you’re able to do.

Taking on enemies at range or up close is going to give you varying results, making the entire loop feel like you’re right in the middle of the action, which is quite a good thing for a game designed around placing you in intense combat situations. All in all, this one’s a promising start to a new chapter of Battlefield 6, and we can’t wait for these changes to hit the game after they spend a while in testing.

EA's Hyderabad office reportedly saw an untold number of layoffs, including for those who have been at the studio for years.

We’re sighing as we say it, but it seems that those rumors of planned layoffs at EA are true after all. Kotaku has reported that an undisclosed number of employees have been told to clear their desks ahead of the publisher’s high-value sale to Saudi Arabia’s PIF, Silver Lake Partners and Affinity Partners.

The latest wave of layoffs has hit several teams, including (but not limited to) trust and safety, customer support, IT, and recruitment across the studio’s offices in the US and India. The news reportedly comes from internal sources as well as online posts from some of the affected employees, some of whom have had considerable tenures in their roles and the organization at large.

One alleged email from Fan Care, EA’s name for customer support, said the layoffs were to “adapt how we work to better meet fans’ changing needs.” “As part of this evolution, we are making or proposing to make changes to some roles, creating new roles, and moving certain work to different teams, locations, or service partners.”

Of course, this is far from the first round of layoffs conducted this year alone. There were even whispers of some of the Battlefield 6 team being let go despite the title being a high earner among the studio’s offerings in its latest quarterly review.

As always, we’re rooting for the displaced individuals to land on their feet and to continue doing what they do best on the personal and professional fronts.

Field Orders, Contracts- call it what you want. But that’s not the only thing coming with an update that has a lot to fix.

Season 3 of Battlefield 6 has seen a busy few months for the popular shooter. There was that memorable trailer to kick things off a while ago, while Blastpoint brought back Obliteration to the game, aside from new maps and new ways to experience the chaos of a battlefield.

Well, things are about to get a tad more exciting, especially if you’re a Call of Duty: Ghosts player (as rare as those may be). If Field Orders sound familiar to you, the new High-Value Target update is bringing that back, although it’s being called Contracts in this one. You basically pick up a mid-mission objective off a dead enemy, the completion of which awards you with currently undisclosed rewards. They’re part of the Wet Work event, and will be available on both the traditional multiplayer modes and the free-to-play RedSec.

Aside from that, the new update will address various issues, add a new menu that will make tracking event-based objectives and rewards a whole lot easier, and provide changes to gunplay and vehicles. For the former, there will be tweaks to recoil, handling, bullet dispersion, limb damage, and bullet velocity and drag. As for the latter, Thermal Smoke isn’t going to counter C4 anymore, while your RPGs are going to be a lot more potent against tanks and helicopters. The automated AA when you spawn in isn’t going to be as useful as it’s been up until now, too.

Well, that’s quite the list, and we can’t wait to see how this one pans out once it drops on June 30, 2026.

Layoffs hitting EA is likely going to be only one part of the potential "bloodbath" that is expected to start across the industry next month.

While many layoffs are expected to kick off quite soon, it looks like Electronic Arts has already started its rounds. According to industry analyst Destin Legarie, the first round of layoffs to have hit EA might be relatively small. However, more are expected to happen.

In a social media post, Legarie noted that the affected EA staff is currently being notified of the fact. While precise details about the scale of these layoffs is currently unknown, the analyst cites sources in stating that multiple divisions across the company are going to be affected by cuts.

“Unfortunately, I’m hearing from reliable sources that layoffs are starting at EA, though the initial round may be relatively small,” he wrote. “Staff are being notified that they are being let go, and I’m told the cuts are impacting multiple parts of the company.”

While reports had previously indicated that only Xbox’s studios are largely going to be targeted for layoffs after Microsoft wraps up its fiscal year on June 30th, others have noted that layoffs and studio closures are going to be widespread in the industry. French journalist Sylvain Trinel, for instance, indicated that Microsoft’s layoffs are going to be “just the beginning of a massive bloodbath.”

Along with Xbox-owned studios like Bethesda, Trinel also said that other publisher-owned studios, like DON’T NOD and Quantic Dream, are also under threat of impending job cuts and potential closures. “The echoes I’ve been able to pick up tonight are far from encouraging,” they wrote. “This is really just the beginning.”

EA suffering from layoffs shouldn’t really come as much of a surprise, since the company is likely attempting to appear sleeker and more efficient in light of its acquisition by an investor consortium made up of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Affinity Partners, and Silver Lake Partners. The deal was approved by shareholders in December, and the company is currently waiting for approval from regulatory bodies. Valued at $55 billion, the acquisition is being done through a structured deal, which would put quite a bit of debt on EA itself.

Developers at BioWare had already begun worrying about potential layoffs as soon as the acquisition was announced. Some noted that they have already been preparing for the worst by making sure that their portfolios are up to date. “I’ve been doing it since last year, but I’m making sure I have a portfolio ready and feelers out for other jobs,” said one developer. “Kind of feels like a matter of time.”

As for Microsoft, the company has reportedly already begun its culling of employees. According to the co-founder of the original 3D Realms and Apogee, George Broussard, essentially anyone at Bethesda that isn’t currently working on a new Fallout or The Elder Scrolls project is at risk of being laid off.

“Getting word that layoffs at Zenimax has begun. Heard rumblings recently that the cuts may be much deeper than you expect. Buckle up,” he wrote.

However, much like with EA, Microsoft has likely only begun informing its employees of the fact, and the layoffs will probably kick in after the end of the fiscal year.

BFMTV journalist Sylvain Trinel claims that the upcoming layoffs at Microsoft are "just the beginning of a massive bloodbath."

Recent reports indicate that Microsoft’s Xbox division is preparing to undergo major layoffs shortly after the company ends its fiscal year on June 30th. While one of these reports had also indicated that we might be looking at some studios being closed down as a result, a new report by French journalist Sylvain Trinel indicates that things might be a lot grimmer for the industry at large than we might have initially thought.

In a series of social media posts, Trinel has described the coming layoffs as “just the beginning of a massive bloodbath” for studios owned by publishers.

Along with game development companies under Microsoft, like id Software and Bethesda, Trinel has also pointed to other major developers, like DON’T NOD and Quantic Dream. He said that there are “a lot of layoffs expected in many very well-known studios. It’s going to be a catastrophe.”

Along with these companies, Trinel has also indicated that BioWare might be in trouble as well, which is likely, considering Electronic Arts’ current need to make more revenue thanks to its structured buyout.

“The echoes I’ve been able to pick up tonight are far from encouraging,” wrote Trinel. “This is really just the beginning.”

The Xbox division is noted as being under some heavy scrutiny under the leadership of its new CEO, Asha Sharma, who had spoken about the company ending the fiscal year with an accountability margin of 3 percent lower than the previous year. As part of this, a report has indicated that there will be plenty of other budget cuts throughout Xbox as well, including spending in marketing and “some other areas of the business.”

“We will end this fiscal year at about a 3 percent accountability margin, down year-over-year,” wrote Sharma and Xbox CCO Matt Booty in a recent blog post. “Excluding Activision Blizzard King, over the past five years, we have spent over $20 billion on ongoing investments in our content, platform, and hardware subsidy, but our annual revenue has declined nearly half a billion during that time. Going forward, this cannot continue.”

As for BioWare owner EA, the company is currently in the process of being sold to an investor consortium made up of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Affinity Partners, and Sliver Lake Partners. The deal, valued at around $55 billion, was approved by EA’s shareholders back in December. The next step in the acquisition process is for the company to get approval from government regulators.

BioWare developers had reportedly started becoming concerned about this acquisition quickly after the deal was first announced. Speaking to various outlets, developers had already spoken about being prepared for the worst, with many of them noting that they were making sure that their portfolios were up to date.

“I’ve been doing it since last year, but I’m making sure I have a portfolio ready and feelers out for other jobs,” said a developer. “Kind of feels like a matter of time.”

Others had spoken about continuing to work until the studio is explicitly told to stop. “We’re going to keep working until they tell us we’re done,” they said. “It’s not the healthiest way to live, but as long as the paychecks keep coming, we’re not going to just walk away.”

It’s an innovative idea that already has a few well-known names prepping to offer us their services while we game, with more on the way.

A new press release from Electronic Arts has revealed EA Advertising, a program that seeks to integrate ads into our favorite gaming experiences.

The effort aims to bring “dynamic, real-time” ad placements to popular titles that see player footfall over their shelf life. The studio looks to build strategic partnerships, bringing Ad Units to its sports simulations while using enhanced targeting and measurement features to evaluate ad performance alongside the EA Sports Partner Program, which could help the brands it aims to better integrate themselves into the games we’re playing.

Like its new approach to game launches, this one’s an ambitious feature that looks quite good on paper, although we’re going to have to wait and see how kindly fans of the publisher’s work respond to this new addition. EA has already brought a few big names on board, including VISA, Lowe’s, Red Bull, Peacock, Xfinity, and Mountain Dew. How much that list expands as the program begins across games remains to be seen, but we’re guessing it could find quite a few takers in a new advertising approach.

It all seems pretty logical in games like College Football or the UFC franchise, although we’re quite skeptical about making it work in games like Battlefield or even the next Mass Effect.

It’s nearly time to dive into Cairo Bazaar’s narrow alleys and breakable walls, while Obliteration gives you a new take on an iconic mode.

Battlefield 6’s mid-season is gearing up for some exciting new additions, and there’s a new trailer to give us a rundown of what to look forward to.

There’s the Cairo Bazaar map, which is an evolution of the Grand Bazaar from past titles, for starters. You’re going to want to cover every possible direction you can manage to, as its narrow streets and breakable walls make it a great place to set up an ambush. We’d like to turn the tables and set up one of our own, but this is a map where the best-laid plans go to fail, and improvisation in the face of chaos looks like a viable strategy.

There’s also Tactical Obliteration, a new competitive mode in which you’re going to have to pick up bombs to lob at enemy M-COMS whilst avoiding all the bullets that they’re raining down on you. It looks like a lot of fun, and is probably a great place to try out new weapons like the PP-19 SMG and the Handheld Jammer, both of which are coming to REDSEC as part of the Explosive Charge Bonus Path.

We can’t wait to dive in when this one drops on June 9, 2026, and we’re almost certain we’re going to see you on the field at some point. May the best warriors win!

A report has noted that it wasn't actually Microsoft's fault, and that EA "hated" the idea of bringing family plan options to Game Pass.

While there have been plenty of reports of Microsoft looking into ways to further expand on its Game Pass offerings, it looks like the company might have completely cancelled its plans to offer a family plan for the subscription service. According to Windows Central’s Jez Corden, the Game Pass family plan, which was being tested in a few regions like Ireland and Colombia, will not be seeing any expansion to more regions, or even a return to where it was initially tested.

Unfortunately, the decision may have ultimately been cancelled due to objections from XBOX’s partners. According to Corden, Electronic Arts was the main culprit here, and that it “hated” the idea of a family plan for Game Pass. The plan itself would have given up to four users the ability to share a Game Pass subscription.

Corden has noted that the decision to cancel the family plan “wasn’t actually Microsoft’s fault.” He went on to say that, since EA’s presence on Game Pass has been the “bare minimum” on PC, and since it doesn’t release many games these days anyway, he wouldn’t mind seeing the company removed from the subscription service if it means getting things like a family plan.

“I was told EA, who is a long-term contractee within the Xbox Game Pass ecosystem, fully hated the idea,” wrote Corden. “It sucks because EA does the absolute bare minimum with its Game Pass involvement, refusing to put Xbox PC native versions with Play Anywhere or Xbox achievements out.”

“If the above is indeed true, I would like to see EA get kicked out of the Xbox Game Pass ecosystem in exchange for a revival of the Xbox Game Pass Family Plan, personally. EA barely releases games anymore anyway. EA shouldn’t be allowed to hold back Xbox customers, given how anemic its contributions have been.”

Interestingly, a family plan for Game Pass is among the top-5 most requested features that XBOX players have been asking for since the launch of the company’s new Player Voice feedback system. Other player requests include exclusive games, a renewed focus on backwards compatibility, fully free online multiplayer, and a separation of Achievements for base games and their DLCs.

A report from last month had indicated that the company is still trying some new things with the service, and is even toying with the idea of introducing a “pick your own plan” system that would give subscribers more options for the games and services they would actually want.

“A sort of ‘pick your own plan’ formula for Xbox Game Pass is on the cards, essentially, where users can effectively decide what packages of content they want to see as part of their plan,” wrote Corden last month. “Microsoft has leaked ‘Duet’ and ‘Triton’ codenames for Xbox Game Pass via its back-end APIs recently, suggesting that packages of services are in the plan’s future. Don’t want Xbox Cloud Gaming? Remove it and lower the price. No need for Fortnite Crew? Ditch it and add day one Xbox games. Perhaps you can roll in World of Warcraft or Minecraft Realms subscriptions instead, or even other benefits like Netflix, per rumors, or the long-awaited Xbox Game Pass Family Plan.”
