Liangzhou has a lot to keep us busy in its new trailer, and we can't wait to take on all the challenges it has to offer.

Where Winds Meet is getting a massive amount of new content to its Hexi expansion, with its second chapter coming to the game on April 2, 2026. An announcement trailer has showcased a lot to be excited about in Liangzhou, the city where it all takes place.

Following the first chapter’s foray into the sprawling desert of the Jade Gate Pass, you’re going to be thrust headfirst into a complex political landscape this time around, with interesting characters bookmarking a journey that pits you against some fearsome opponents. There’s a sycophant who seems to live on every word his emperor tells him, and a massive snake that’s looking quite nasty even though it only shows up for a couple of seconds.

Overall, it seems that Liangzhou could follow in the footsteps of the chapter that preceded it, which we found to be an enjoyable addition to an already solid title. The latest additions to the Hexi expansion continue to bring more sub-regions and bosses to the game, and are sure to help it sustain some astounding player counts that its managed since launching in 2025.

The trailer is below if this one has caught your eye, and you’re going to enjoy the glimpse of Liangzhou that it has to offer.

This wuxia adventure has me wondering just how much I have left to discover in my corner of the world despite being as nosy as I could be and leaving no stone unturned.

Where Winds Meet is a fascinating blend of familiar elements from popular open-world RPGs and action games over the years, woven into a wuxia world in which freedom isn’t just a part of the gameplay loop, it’s the thread that holds it all together.

However, that comes at a cost. The world is so chock full of things to do that it feels nigh on impossible to make it to one objective before another interesting one pops up and pulls me in another direction. From absolutely hilarious to bizarre, you never know what you could come across as you head out toward your destiny. And if you have a lot of time on your hands, that’s a good thing.

But as we gear up for a new year of gaming experiences, I wonder if my limited time over the holidays is going to be enough to find all that there is to find in Qinghe and Kaifeng. I’ve put together a few reasons why this ambitious title feels like its 150-hour playtime might just have me beat.

1. It’s Just Getting Started

For starters, it’s going to be a lot more than 150 hours. In the immediate coverage of the game since its release, there’s already talk about what’s to come, and new regions are a highlight of those conversations. It’s fascinating to think that Where Winds Meet has so much more up its sleeve for a free-to-play experience of such quality.

However, it’s going to be challenging to divide up my gaming time once new releases hit the shelves, and the thought of missing out on potentially quality content in a great title does give me a pang. Yet, there’s solace in the fact that this wuxia world is likely to welcome you back with open arms as long as the meta around builds remains relatively consistent.

2. The PvP Element

A combat system that’s this good with the staggering build potential that this world has to offer? That’s a recipe for some incredible PvP fun, and Everstone Studios hasn’t disappointed on that front.

From online co-op to the option to take on massive 30v30 battles against other players, arenas, and combat-focused guilds that can be great when you want to let loose with your endgame gear, there’s a lot of replay potential on offer. It’s a way to make many more great memories without the need for the studio to intervene, allowing a thriving community of players to make the most out of the massive world they’ve been given.

3. My Guild Deserves Better

I’m sure that I’m going to return to Where Winds Meet whenever I can spare the time to manage a session of play just to check in with my guild, at the very least. I can’t imagine what my initial hours in the game would have been like if I hadn’t put joining a guild high on my list of priorities.

And despite the fact that I was quite early into my adventure, my guild was quite welcoming, and now I can’t imagine visiting the game’s world without stopping by. I’m quite unlikely to leave the game behind thanks to the ones who made my time with it a lot easier. It’s where I find validation in my choices, and my own cohort of like-minded folks who think the dual blades are the way to go on the combat front.

4. The Side Content

Although the game’s economies are quite complex and nuanced, there’s certainly no shortage of supply as far as side content in the game goes. From amusing little chapters to random encounters that can turn into hours of an entire storyline, many of which have a brilliant boss fight or a bit of awesome gear waiting for you at the end, there’s a staggering amount of stuff to find in this one.

Coming from a fellow player who loves his collectibles and large maps, this one’s going to push even the most diligent among us past our limits. I worry that a lot of the game’s content is going to stay hidden from many of its players, only to be overshadowed by new games that gobble up their attention. But some of the secrets are so well woven into organic exploration that it might be hard to see them all in a playthrough.

5. Becoming the Ultimate Hero

As with the game’s side content, a wuxia fantasy like this one must end with my character being the equivalent of Ezo’s Takezo in their corner of China. That means tracking down every martial art, internal art, and mystic art in the game, arming myself with the knowledge and skills I’d need to become a warrior without a rival in all the land.

That’s a daunting task, however, considering the sheer volume of things there are to find on this front. However, with each move or art being as unique as it is, it could be worth the effort.

6. Stopping By For A Chat

It’s ever so increasingly hard not to stop by and chat with every NPC I find in the world. You never know when you can strike up a friendship with citizens powered by chatbots that allow you to have actual conversations and perhaps even make interesting discoveries as a result.

But of course, that’s quite a time sink considering just how many NPCs there are for you to interact with. When you think about it against the already vast amount of things you need to do in this game, it does show a rather gloomy forecast for anyone looking to take it all in and relish the experience.

7. Fully Exploring Qinghe and Kaifeng

While I’ve been pushing to uncover as much as I can of the map and try and collect as much gear and arts as possible in the interest of testing out builds, I can’t help but feel like I’ve only begun to scratch the surface of what Qinghe and Kaifeng have to offer. A few interesting discoveries when I was watching coverage of the game show that I have so much more waiting for me in each of the two regions.

There are lore drops, hidden stories, exploration milestones, and so much more to get to in the two main regions, which has me wondering just how much a new region could add to the mix once it eventually makes its way to the game.

8. Defeat Every Boss

Given my interest in Soulslikes, I’ve loved almost all of the boss designs I’ve managed to unearth in Where Winds Meet. It makes me want to keep diving back in and exploring just a little further in the hopes of uncovering another formidable enemy to test my skills against.

It’s the boss fights that allow you to truly test out your builds as well as your skill at using all the tools at your disposal to turn the tide. And considering that some of them are waiting for me at the end of some very elusive secret stories, I’m all the more incentivized to see it through, no matter how long it takes. Whether my resolve can last in the face of new games down the line is another question entirely.

9. A Thriving Community

The communities that form around games like Where Winds Meet are generally great places to see what other players are doing in the game and perhaps find out about stuff that you may have missed. This one’s the type of game where finding out about something from another player is kind of a catalyst for a few hours lost exploring the region where your objective is, sometimes long after you find it.

I see myself being turned in the game’s direction from time to time in the near future, and it’s one of the reasons I believe I’d never truly be done with the game.
Trying out different builds, community ideas, and easy to respec

10. The Slick Combat

I’m not going to lie, I do love a meaty combat system that lets you dominate the fight, while there is always the risk of the tables being turned. The combat system in Where Winds Meet is perfect for that kind of gameplay, and my aggressive, risk-reward playstyle has been the source of some very entertaining hours with the game.

Until there’s another game with a combat system that’s as good as the one on offer here, Where Winds Meet isn’t going to see the last of me, no matter what.

11. Keeping Up With the Times

I can almost sense that new content and regions being added to the game will bring loads of new gear, weapons, loot, and potentially new builds to the table. All of them will require a bunch of resources, and I’d rather earn them all consistently over a bit of time rather than have to farm them out in a hurry.

To that end, I’m going to keep coming back to Where Winds Meet to try and take advantage of daily rewards and the gifts that NPCs you befriend send you from time to time. Staying on top of my game so I’m prepared for whatever I have to deal with down the line means I’m going to be quite a regular at my home in the wilderness of Qinghe.

12. Events

If Where Winds Meet is bringing events like the Creator Incentive Event that’s currently ongoing to the table, I’m definitely going to keep coming back for more. With Blades Out, the first official season for the game already announced, its events are a solid reason to keep playing it on a regular basis.

What’s more, the content that each event could bring is going to be quite enticing if it’s on par with what’s already on offer in the game.

13. A Roadmap of New Content

With a lot of DLC additions already planned for the game, Where Winds Meet is going to keep its millions of players quite busy as time goes on. Blade Out and anything that follows are going to be massive if the current size and scope of the game are any indications, and there’s always the possibility that the developers could push their creative chops even further as they get bolder with the game’s success.

That’s going to be quite a draw, and perhaps a great reason to keep stopping by even if your backlog of games to play keeps getting larger in the background.

14. Online Coop

One of my favorite things to do in games such as this, and I’m sure it’s the case for many of you, is to join up with other players looking for some help with places or foes I’m familiar with, and help out. With a robust online co-op system in place, teaming up with other players is a feature that I’m quite drawn to in Where Winds Meet, and it is yet another reason I’m not likely to put it down any time soon.

It’s also quite a distraction as I found myself spending too much time with other players at the expense of progressing my own adventure. But is that time really wasted if you had an absolute blast in the process?

15. Trying to Get It All

Last but definitely not least is that I’m a total completionist who likes to experience every darn thing a game has to offer before I can truly let it go. With a game like this, I doubt I can ever fully be convinced that there isn’t something I missed despite my best efforts. While that’s a part of the beauty of Where Winds Meet, it’s also a concerning detail for players who want to see the game in its entirety.

There’s a frankly overwhelming amount of collectibles, and so much lore to uncover that it’s now a challenge to my pride, and I’m going to be chipping away at the game’s content every chance that I get.

And that’s a wrap on reasons I can never fully complete Where Winds Meet. May it continue to be a gift that keeps on giving.

Learn more about the flexible rope dart, the wonders of Kaifeng and the mysterious figure, Nan Zhu, ahead of the action RPG's launch.

Everstone Studio’s Where Winds Meet launches worldwide on November 14th, bringing its successful fusion of Wuxia and open-world action RPG gameplay to the West at last. Preloads begin on November 12th at 2 PM PT for free, according to a new PlayStation Blog article, but there’s a lot more to learn before diving into the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms era.

First up are the weapons. You know about the sword, spear and Mo blade, but there are more flamboyant choices available, like the umbrella, fan and rope dart. There are 12 Martial Arts sets and 23 mystical techniques, with award-winning action choreographer Stephen Tung Wai in charge of the animation.

Whatever the weapon and discipline, you’ll need to master them to progress to locations like Kaifeng. Described as “the beating heart of civilization,” it features over 10,000 NPCs and more than 1,200 artifacts for collection. The sheer range of activities is also incredible, from dueling and trading to exploring the mysterious Ghostly Market.

Of course, you’ll also need to delve into the “Gold-Making Vessel,” a treasure that conceals a “darker purpose.” It isn’t long before players are drawn into conflict and dealing with powers beyond their control. Everstone also unveiled the mysterious figure stalking the hero all the while – Nan Zhu, a cunning individual with “murderous intent.”

Where Winds Meet will be available for PS5 and PC at launch, recently crossing seven million pre-registrations.
Everstone Studios may offer a great balance between an RPG, action adventure, and open world that's captivating and just plain fun.

The world that Everstone Studios has introduced in Where Winds Meet is quite an entertaining one. It takes great advantage of its narrative presence to craft an experience that feels grounded, gritty, and tailored to fit a variety of playstyles.

Like a good open-world game should do, a sense of freedom underlines everything you do in the game, with both main and side activities feeding into a gameplay loop that uses wuxia to great effect and weaves it into its exploration and combat.

The game’s mechanics are built to facilitate getting around the world and being stylish, and perhaps a bit brutal if there are those in opposition. Crafting your own take on a very expansive world in the process becomes a result of clever design.

It’s an experience that could have you smiling fondly at the way it riffs on mechanics in the best experiences while putting its own flourishes on what it attempts to present to you. Allow us to elaborate.

Exploring a Fallen Dynasty

As a warrior looking to make your mark in a land that’s been victim to a lot of political and military turmoil, your role in your journey becomes all the more important, with the game making good use of RPG mechanics to keep you busy for hours on end.

But it’s in the way freedom is presented to you right off the bat that quickly showcases how Where Winds Meet is not afraid to pay homage to solid experiences that have come before it, while also signalling that it is unafraid to usher in touches of its own. As you dive into your playthrough, you’re asked to pick between different modes that control how much the game holds your hand.

It’s a perfect reminder of the choice between Exploration and Guided modes in Assassin’s Creed’s latest titles, but on a map this large, finding your targets with only a few clues to guide you could be problematic. However, Where Winds Meet has a few tricks up its sleeve on that front.

The Unreal Engine 5-powered visuals are a great immersive factor, while the sheer amount of activities you can uncover as you explore more of the map in Solo mode. They’re a great advantage for Everstone as they hold your attention long enough for the sense of discovery and freedom to sink in.

Loading up your inventory menu to take stock of a situation, you might quickly realize that the crafting systems, world map, and inventory menus are synced in a way that lets you find where you need to go for nearly any upgrade you need. Getting there might still require that you farm out a few levels before going over, but having the ability to track important personal objectives over the layer of story and side content calling for your attention is clever, because it fits into a variety of playstyles.

There are those who like to keep their gear updated as they take on increasingly harder challenges. There are also some of you who’d rather upgrade their stuff when they’re in the vicinity of a suitable vendor, or perhaps only when you need to. Either way, making crafting such an easily accessible and crucial part of success in the main campaign does a solid job of tying exploring the world into the game’s larger narrative.

It also gives you, the player, absolute control over your decisions with regard to your loadouts, and it can be quite advantageous to think about spreading upgrades out over different loadouts to try and specialize a couple of builds you can switch between. It’s the freedom of making an otherwise mundane task feel like a natural part of your journey.

But it also fits very well with another very enjoyable part of the experience.

Fighting With Form and Function

The game’s wuxia-based animations are certainly a sight to behold, and their integration into traversing the open world is quite innovative indeed. But do they lend themselves to combat, an equally important facet of the experience?

The answer is yes. It’s also a great showcase of how Where Winds Meet represents an intersection of mechanics from other great combat titles. Of course, the parry mechanic from Sekiro is quite an obvious one, considering how the timings feel quite close to that one. But where Sekiro relied on the risk-reward system that parrying brought to the table, Where Winds Meet melds challenge and appeal in equal measure.

Simply adjusting your playstyle to holding down blocks to mitigate the damage from an incoming attack by default while clicking on parry to attempt a deflect might feel like a subtle touch, but it does take some getting used to.

But once you do, you’re free to take even fights at your own pace, trading damage while having the room to further time your parries to specific attacks that could open your enemies up to some serious damage down the line. We’re certainly going to dive into the game’s harder difficulties once we have a few builds going and see if permadeath is going to stop us from reaching our destiny.

It’s also great that the combat difficulty you choose only extends to the single player mode, and multiplayer modes aren’t affected. That’s because it’s a level playing field where the best of Where Winds Meet is sure to show itself, thanks to the combat system bringing weapon variety and a lot of enemies to try them on.

Each weapon type in the game comes with distinct animations, lending it distinct trade-offs and advantages. It’s an expanded arsenal on offer in comparison to Ghost of Yotei, but the two games being relatively close to each other immediately brings Sucker Punch’s approach to accessing multiple weapons in a fight to mind.

But unlike Atsu, your character wields only two chosen weapons in the field, and we can already see why that could be another feather in Everstone’s cap. We’re already eyeing the early beginnings of several distinct builds, an assassin wielding the brutal speed and DPS potential of dual blades with the crown control abilities of a rope dart specialist is on the cards.

It’s a design choice that works well within both the game’s narrative and explorative frameworks, allowing Where Winds Meet to bring its almost overwhelming freedom into its combat as well, and allows it to round off an experience that seems designed to be an excellent RPG from the ground up.

Each weapon feels distinct enough from the others that it comes with a learning curve that requires knowledge of your own attack patterns and their timing, but that you also have a read on your enemies. It’s a combat experience that feels so involved, and every swipe of your blade is a direct extension of all your training to master it, and each injury is a lesson to be learned on your path to glory.

We’re particularly fond of the fact that refilling your healing flasks requires having enough of a consumable resource at hand. It’s a nice riff on Bloodborne’s vial system without being as restrictive as that one’s approach to healing. The fact that you could always try and net a few upgrades to your healing abilities before you even begin your journey is a nice plus.

But it does give the feeling that you live off the land, and the belief that you are shaping it for the better as you make your way through it. That sense of belonging, and the freedom that comes with a game that trusts you to find your own way while being willing to be at your side when it’s needed, has us feeling really good about Where Winds Meet.

The Beginning of A Beginning

It’s probably too early to tell if Where Winds Meet can capture the attention of increasingly discerning RPG players. But from our early impressions of the game, it’s something that brings special moments in its gameplay loop that could make it a mainstay of the online RPG world.

It’s a testament to the game’s design that many of those moments could even come along when you play solo. And let’s not forget the potential for this one to become a legendary PvP title that brings the best of its players to arenas that shine with Unreal Engine 5’s visual flair.

There are probably going to be several meta builds for you to check out and prioritize in the run-up to the game’s console release. They’re only going to make exploring this world even better, and be useful starting points for you to bring your own touches to your character as your confidence in your legend grows.

Where Winds Meet is a journey where you, your choices, and your weapon become one in a way that sticks and guides you along the long and winding road to glory with aplomb. And what’s more, it respects your agency as you do it. It’s shaping up to be a love letter to RPG fans that’s quite well-written and charming enough to earn more than a passing glance.

It’s time to continue our journey and see what our futures hold.

If that sounds like your cup of tea, here are a few things you need to know before you dive in. Let’s begin!

1. An Intriguing Action Adventure RPG

Bringing an open world that boasts of a massive playable map, and an interesting Wuxia-based combat loop to the table, Where Winds Meet is an action adventure RPG that could have you exploring an intriguing series of events which we’re coming to, improving your character over the course of your travels, and of course, dispatching any one who gets in your way with ruthless efficiency.

2. The Setting

The story takes you back to China in the 10th century, where you play a young swordsman navigating the chaos of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms era. The Tang Dynasty has fallen, and everyone is vying for power and influence, yourself included.

Your destiny is in your hands, as are the choices you get to make as you shape the world around you based on the moral code you choose. Are you loyal to the land or only to yourself? Or does protecting those who cannot protect themselves guide you along your way? Whatever you decide, your path to greatness is going to be a bloody one.

3. Excellent Visuals

Early previews of the game at Gamecom 2025 showcase a stunning world that takes advantage of Unreal Engine 5 to present visuals and animations that complement the game’s traversal and combat mechanics.

With your character being able to take to the skies, expect a few stunning moments where you’re more focused on the vista before you rather than your next objective.

4. What Does it Cost?

While you might have been expecting the game to come with a hefty price tag considering its visuals and premise, it’s actually free to play with support for in-game purchases. However, most items can be purchased using the in-game currency if you choose not to spend any real money. Furthermore, all items in the game’s store are optional purchases and are not required for progression since they include cosmetics.

You can also use in-game currency (Echo Jade) to purchase either cosmetic gear or upgrade materials. They are also optional purchases, and none of them contain any items required for progression.

5. Your Choices Affect Your Journey

From your weapons to the ones whom you use them on, and the factions you choose to align yourself with, the gameplay loop in Where Winds Meet is slated to encourage player freedom while ensuring you have a meaningful impact on its world through your actions.

There are always different paths to similar objectives, and you’re going to want to think carefully about who you choose to support in your travels and consider the impact of your decisions at every turn.

6. A Deep Character Creation System

Considering how important your character is to the experience, Everstone has included a robust character creation system that’s going to provide you with a lot of options for you to create the perfect look and feel for your protagonist.

Aside from looks, there are a lot of other traits that dictate your character arc, allowing you to truly create a character that reflects your personality and preferred origin stories. For instance, playing as a Doctor lets you heal other characters when you’re starting out, while being a Ferryman or Inkeeper all give you the tools you need to begin playing the game according to your style.

7. Switch Up Your Fighting Style

Combat in the game is real-time and designed to complement a variety of playstyles. Everstone has accounted for weapon preferences, integrated a dodge and parry system, and opted for flexible loadouts so you can switch things up on the fly.

Being able to respond to varying enemy attacks and strategies is going to be an important part of racking up the victories you need to fulfil your destiny, after all. And with multiple weapon types such as swords, dual blades, spears, fans, rope darts, and combat umbrellas, it looks like we’re all going to be very spoiled for choice when we finally get started with the game.

8. Different Skill Trees for Different Weapons

Each of your melee weapons comes with Martial Arts that you can unlock, alongside Internal Arts that are combat passives for your character, and Mystic Arts that let you have more options during fights while also letting you solve puzzles you may find out in the world.

Mixing and matching between different weapons and arts could be a way for your builds to truly match the way you like to approach combat in action-adventure titles.

9. Combat Stances

Several Internal Arts unlock special stances for specific weapon types, allowing you to expand their movesets and the options for damage that they grant you. While some of them, like the Steadfast Stance, are universal to all weapons, others, like the Thunderous Bloo,m require the use of specific fans or umbrellas as your weapon of choice.

It’s a system that could see a lot of build variety and ways to approach combat in the game. Considering that each stance could potentially open up different attacks and perhaps even ways to turn parries and dodges to your advantage, it looks like Where Winds Meet is making the most of its martial arts styles and Kung-fu inspirations in the combat department.

10. Hunt Down Upgrades

Any gear, weapons, and other items in your position are upgradeable via materials you gather during your travels. To that end, you might want to keep your eyes peeled as you explore the world, making your journey easier by keeping all of your gear as upgraded as possible to take on increasingly dangerous threats.

Aside from coins and Echo Jade, an in-game currency you use to purchase in-game loot boxes, there are a host of materials you will need to pick up in order to keep those upgrades coming. That sounds like a dream for players who like to procure anything that isn’t nailed down in their games.

11. Take A Stealthy Approach If You Like

If approaching a dangerous situation with your swords out and a battle cry on your lips isn’t your style, you could always stay on the down low, and pick at your enemies from the shadows. There’s even an option to start the game as an Assassin who prefers to make their presence felt only when the time is right.

You can crawl, sneak, and use the environment to hide your approach, striking at your targets only when it’s already too late for them to mount a counterattack. We suspect some stealth builds in the game might even let you hide yourself more easily, and navigate hostile territory without enemies even knowing you’re there.

12. Traverse the World In Style

The game’s Wuxia-based inspirations are not restricted to just its combat, but also in the way you navigate its world as well. You’ve got a parkour system that lets you run, jump,wall-run, vault, and mantle over environmental elements with style. There are also Mystic Arts that can let you launch your character into the air and glide over large distances.

There’s also a horse for those of you who’d like a more traditional way to travel around.

13. A Variety of Ways to Play

You can certainly enjoy Where Winds Meet as a solo adventure, but the option to bring up to three of your buddies along for some co-op action is always available to you. Its massive world and free-to-play mechanics let the game double up as an MMO of sorts via its Jianghu mode, which allows for seamless multiplayer connectivity that’s helped along by the presence of various options for PvE or PvP gameplay.

14. Release Platforms

Where Winds Meet is releasing for PC and PS5 on November 14, 2025, and will be available on Steam, Epic Store, and Microsoft Store for PC players. PS5 players can purchase a Pre-Order Bundle to gain access to some exclusive cosmetic items that include a choice between three outfits, a name card, some much-needed coins, and the Lingering Melody item, exclusive to the PS5 edition.

15. PC Requirements And PS5 Features

The minimum specs you’re going to need on your setup include a 64-bit processor, Windows 10/11 64-bit, an Intel Core i7-7700K/AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 16GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060(6GB) or RX 480(8GB), DirectX 12, and 100GB of SSD storage.

The recommended specs include a Core i7-10700 or a Ryzen 7 3700X, 32GB of RAM, an RTX 2070 SUPER / RX 6700 XT / ARC A750, while other parameters remain the same. Considering the game’s massive world, you might want to see if your PC can run it well enough before you dive in.

The PS5 version brings 3D audio and some excellent use of the DualSense’s haptics and adaptive triggers to make the experience more immersive.

And that’s a wrap on everything you need to know before diving into Where Winds Meet, and embarking on a journey into the unknown in order to meet your destiny. We hope to see you in its expansive world this November. Will you be diving in? We’re looking forward to seeing a bunch of excellent builds from the game’s fans once it’s out there!

Lead designer Chris Lyu spoke about the challenges behind realising the studio's vision for the Wuxia-inspired Where Winds Meet.

Developer Everstone Studios has high ambitions for its upcoming open-world action RPG Where Winds Meet. In an interview with Techradar, lead designer Chris Lyu spoke about what the studio hopes to achieve with the title, especially since Where Winds Meet tackles a setting and period that hasn’t really seen much representation in gaming otherwise. He also spoke about other things, like the challenges faced by the studio, as well as player response from playtests.

“What we hope to create is a really immersive world experience, that was our core goal when we created this project,” said Chris Lyu. “Of course, we ran into a lot of difficulties. Since no other studio has made this kind of game before, we didn’t have a lot of references.” He went on to discuss the overall positive reception that the title has been seeing, especially in China.

“The overall response has been pretty great and we’ve got a lot of positive reviews,” Lyu continued. “On Douyin [Chinese equivalent to TikTok] and Xiaohongshu [RedNote] we had a lot of spontaneous discussions among the players. Some of them would post videos of them playing and those videos would generate a lot of comments from others. Also, the response to the storyline has been great. A lot of players would burst into tears at the most moving parts and I think that created a lot of talk about the game.”

According to Lyu, the monetisation in Where Winds Meet has also been met quite positively, owing to the fact that the title doesn’t feature any pay-to-win content. Rather, the monetisation largely revolves around gacha-styled mechanics, as well as season passes and an in-game store selling cosmetic items.

“We don’t have any pay to win elements in the game, so it’s not like you can purchase your power level,” Lyu explained. “All of our monetization relies on making yourself look good. It’s purchasing costumes and mounts or visual effects for different skills and abilities. So it’s all about pleasing yourself.”

Circling back to discussing the Wuxia influences of Where Winds Meet thanks to its setting of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, global design lead Soul spoke about the challenges behind bringing the culture of the era to life in the game. This includes various aspects, from just the visuals to things like the emotions of the setting as well.

“Rather than just expressing the culture in a verbal manner, we prefer to create this atmosphere in which you can just experience the whole wuxia spirit of martial justice,” said Soul. “We let you experience the happiness, the sorrow, the excitement of that era in this wuxia world.”

Where Winds Meet is in development for PC, PS5, Android and iOS. The game will be coming first to PS5, before making its way on to other platforms after six months. For more details about the title, check out the behind-the-scenes video that was released earlier this week highlighting the motion capture efforts behind the game’s epic dance sequence. Also check out ten minutes of gameplay that was showcased ahead of the title’s final closed beta test.

Everstone's Where Winds Meet also surpassed 15 million players on PC and mobile devices since launching in China in December 2024.

Between laying off its Seattle-based development team for Marvel Rivals and reportedly evaluating its Western investments, NetEase Games has much going on. Nevertheless, the hero shooter continues to achieve new milestones, amassing over 40 million players to date.

As revealed in its Q4 2024/early 2025 operational highlights, it quickly reached over 10 million players within 72 hours. Of course, it crossed 20 million shortly after, and the announcement of Season 1 resulted in the title topping Steam’s charts. There’s also plenty of buzz surrounding Season 1.5 on February 21st, which adds The Thing and Human Torch alongside a new map, Central Park.

Other notable updates include Everstone Studios’ Where Winds Meet, launched in China last December and crossing three million downloads in four days on PC. It would ultimately surpass 15 million players on PC and mobile devices in two weeks. The open-world action RPG doesn’t have a worldwide release date, but it’s expected later this year. Stay tuned for more updates.
