Title Update 3 is now live, bringing one of Final Fantasy 14's monsters into the action RPG with new rewards and mechanics.

The newest Title Update is live for Monster Hunter Wilds and it adds the first collaboration monster – Final Fantasy 14’s Omega Planetes. Those who fought Behemoth in Monster Hunter World will find plenty familiar here, but there are several new mechanics to master.

To help players along, Capcom has released a new introductory guide. As with Behemoth, Kulve Taroth, and Safi’jiiva, one player who attacks Omega Planetes’s head will draw its aggression and many of its attacks. A guard-focused character is thus essential for higher defense. Others can target its parts and unleash new Pictomancy spells to deal damage or take out its minions.

Shields will be important for avoiding some attacks, including the all-powerful Delta Attack. The latter requires slaying a Nerscylla clone in time and huddling under its shield for protection. Master all this and you’ll defeat Omega Planetes in no time (hopefully).

There’s even more to come for Monster Hunter Wilds, including Title Update 4 in December, which adds Gogmazios, the first Elder Dragon. Stay tuned for more details.

Hailing from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, the first Elder Dragon in Wilds will go live this December alongside other improvements.

Capcom is gearing up for its biggest Monster Hunter Wilds content drop yet with Title Update 3. Launching on September 29th, it adds Omega Planetes from Final Fantasy 14 as a new monster. Check out the gameplay trailer below.

Players will leverage new mechanics like Pictomancy spells to attain victory, with rewards including new weapons and the Dark Knight armor set. Arch-Tempered Nu Udra is also being added in a new event quest on October 22nd, followed by a challenge quest on October 29th.

The Festival of Accord: Dreamspell kicks off in the same week, offering some new Halloween-themed gestures, equipment and pop-up camp decorations to obtain. Capcom is also adding more cosmetics, including new quest completion animations.

If that wasn’t enough, it confirmed that Title Update 4, launching in December, will add the game’s first Elder Dragon: Gogmazios from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. It also promises expanded end-game content, another Festival of Accord, and other improvements, so stay tuned for more details.

Final Fantasy 14 is also getting a collaboration with Wilds, which adds the Sekret and Guardian Arkveld as a brand-new boss.

While its next Title Update launches in late September, Capcom unveiled the next collaboration for Monster Hunter Wilds at Gamescom Opening Night Live: Final Fantasy 14. It’s not particularly surprising, especially since Behemoth appeared in Monster Hunter World, but this time, you’ll face Omega Planetes. Check it out below courtesy of IGN.

Another big new addition is being able to ride Chocobos, which should feel even better given Wilds’ expanded traversal mechanics. How the development team will justify Planetes arriving in the Forbidden Lands remains to be seen.

It’s also worth noting that Final Fantasy 14 fans are getting their own special event with Wilds in early October. Players can mount Sekrets (which also glide), explore vast new environments and even take on Guardian Arkveld. Stay tuned for more details on both collaborations in the coming weeks.

Monster Hunter Wilds is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Capcom recently outlined plans to improve CPU and GPU optimization on PC. Head here for more details.

In a previous interview, Naoki Yoshida had spoken about wanting to leave the board of directors to focus more on making games.

Square Enix has revealed through an updated list of its executives that Final Fantasy 14 and Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida is no longer a member of the board of directors. While Yoshida is still present in one of Square Enix’s official website’s pages as an executive, his departure from the board of directors is recent enough that not all pages have been updated yet, as caught by Automaton Media.

Having originally joined Square Enix back in 2005, Yoshida became an executive officer in the company in 2015, shortly after the success of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn. Since then, Yoshida has worked as a producer on the MMORPG and, more recently, the producer for Final Fantasy 16.

Square Enix hasn’t yet released a statement about Yoshida leaving the board of directors. An interview he had with Dutch publication NRC indicates that the decision to leave the position might have been at least partially his. “I don’t want to be on the board. It’s much more fun to just make games,” said Yoshida in the 2023 interview (translation via Dot Esports).

Yoshida hasn’t made any statements about his departure either, and it looks like he will continue heading up Square Enix’s Creative Business Unit 3.

Final Fantasy 14 itself has still been quite successful for Square Enix; the MMORPG saw its most recent expansion, Dawntrail, launch last year. It prompted a rise in player numbers, with Yoshida himself announcing that the title saw the highest number of concurrent players across all platforms since the release of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn back in 2013.

Yoshida has been notable in the history of Final Fantasy thanks in large part successfully turning Final Fantasy 14 around from its originally-failing release into a decent MMORPG with A Realm Reborn. Since then, the game has seen several expansions along the way, with Heavensward and Shadowbringers especially praised by critics for their stories.

Final Fantasy 16, on the other hand, while still critically acclaimed, had seemingly disappointed Square Enix in terms of sales figures with its original PS5-exclusive release. Since then, it’s been released on PC. Yoshida himself also said that future titles by Square Enix would be getting multiplatform releases.

The sentiment was echoed by Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase in December. While Square Enix was satisfied with the title’s sales, “it’s clear that we can’t be exclusive to a single platform.” “I think we need to offer the game to as many players as possible.”

In its recent earnings report, Square Enix reported a rise in operating profits. Among the games credited for this increase in revenue was Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D, which was released on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch in November 2024. Check out our review for more details.

The collabs resulted in a HUD element displaying attacks for players and dialogue choices in Capcom's upcoming action RPG.

Monster Hunter Wilds will feature attack names displayed in the HUD for players to figure out what moves they’re doing. According to IGN, Capcom got the idea to add this during the Monster Hunter World collaboration event with Final Fantasy 14.

The event brought Final Fantasy‘s Behemoth to the series as an MMO raid-styled fight with this HUD element. Final Fantasy 14 producer Naoki Yoshida provided the idea to Yuya Tokuda (the director of Wilds) at the time.

It allowed players to keep an eye on what attacks the monster would be using. Various mechanics hinged on it, such as taking cover behind comets during the meteor attack. This feature will likely help players get better at their chosen weapons in Wilds, allowing them to understand which moves can combo into other attacks.

Capcom also took some ideas from its work with CD Projekt RED on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt collaboration in World. The quest had players take on the role of Geralt. While the core gameplay was still that of Monster Hunter World, players got to make use of dialogue choices and even some of Geralt’s magical abilities as they take on a Leshen.

Monster Hunter Wilds will similarly feature dialogue choices throughout its story, which will allow players to learn more about the story and its characters. It contrasts several past titles, where the protagonists have been silent, at most offering a grunt or two in the heat of battle.

Check out the game’s developers talking about how monster rosters are decided for games in the franchise and why monsters will have higher health and flinch thresholds in Wilds. You can also learn more about Capcom wanting players to approach hunts from a “nature-focused perspective”.

As for PC players, the company stated that it is looking into lowering the requirements on PC. It also expressed interest in a benchmark tool, though it’s not confirmed.

Monster Hunter Wilds launches on February 28th for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. A Capcom Showcase is set for February 4, where it will reveal upcoming titles like Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Street Fighter 6, Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, and Capcom Fighting Collection 2. It will be followed by a 15-minute-long presentation on Wilds.

The mobile online RPG will launch first in China with a global release coming soon afterward, though release dates haven't yet been announced.

Multiple reports and leaks in recent weeks have claimed that Square Enix is collaborating with Tencent on a mobile version of its successful MMORPG Final Fantasy 14, and that has now been officially announced. Final Fantasy 14 Mobile, developed by Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios, is a separate version of the game developed from the ground-up for iOS and Android devices.

The game will recreate the main Final Fantasy 14’s story, while also retaining similar social systems and gameplay mechanics (including, of course, the Job system). Things such as fishing, Triple Triad, chocobo racing, weather and time of day systems, and more will also be retained.

“It has been 11 years since FF14 2.0: A Realm Reborn launched, and this new mobile game will be a sister to FF14, aiming to recreate the grandeur of the original’s story and combat mechanics on mobile devices,” says Final Fantasy 14’s director and producer Naoki Yoshida. “Non-combat features, such as Disciples of the Land and Hand, will also be faithfully implemented and we look forward to growing alongside the passionate FF14 community.”

Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will launch first in China, beginning with multiple demos and play tests, followed shortly afterwards by a global launch. Currently, however, no specific release dates have been announced. Check out the game’s announce trailer below.

Final Fantasy 14 is currently available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. According to Yoshida, Square Enix is also “working towards”, “having discussions” about, and “making progress” with Final Fantasy 14 on “Nintendo’s consoles”.
"We are working towards, making progress and we are having discussions. So I hope that everyone can look forward to news in the time to come," says the MMORPG's director and producer.

Earlier this year, Square Enix brought Final Fantasy 14 to Xbox Series X/S, expanding the already successful MMORPG’s player base even more, and it seems like the company wants to keep that doing by bringing the game to more platforms still. We are, of course, referring specifically to Nintendo.

Speaking in a recent interview with Game Reactor, Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki Yoshida revealed that Square Enix is “working towards”, “having discussions” about, and “making progress” with Final Fantasy 14 on “Nintendo’s consoles”.

“I’m sure that all of the media and our players probably suspecting they really want to have our game release on Nintendo’s consoles, but the concept that we have for Final Fantasy 14 is to release our game on as many devices as possible,” Yoshida said. “So looking towards achieving that goal. We are working towards, making progress and we are having discussions. So I hope that everyone can look forward to news in the time to come.”

Yoshida did not specifically mention which Nintendo platform Square Enix is looking to bring the MMORPG to, which would suggest that he isn’t talking about the Switch, but its upcoming successor (if not both, perhaps).

Interestingly, leaks have claimed that a standalone mobile version of Final Fantasy 14 is also in development in collaboration with Tencent. The same was seemingly approved for release in China earlier this month.

Final Fantasy 14 is currently available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PC.

Though it's yet to be officially announced by Square Enix, the mobile port will seemingly be called Final Fantasy 14: Crystal World.

Last month, rumours emerged that Square Enix and Tencent were working together on a mobile version of the former’s massively successful MMORPG Final Fantasy 14, and more evidence seems to have emerged to set that further in stone, even in the continued absence of an official announcement.

Caught by Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad on Twitter, the National Press and Publication Administration of China has approved a new batch of import titles for release in the country, and included in that group of games is a mobile version of Final Fantasy 14, titled Final Fantasy 14: Crystal World.

As per Ahmad, Final Fantasy 14: Crystal World is being developed by Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios, and is going to be a standalone MMORPG, which means it will be separate from the mainline Final Fantasy 14 experience.

As mentioned, Square Enix has yet to officially announced a mobile version of the title, but one would imagine with these developments that it won’t be long before that changes. Stay tuned for further updates.

Square Enix is collaborating with Tencent for the development of a mobile port of the MMORPG, it's been claimed.

Final Fantasy 14 continues to be a massive money-maker for Square Enix in a way that no one could have anticipated upon its initial failed launch back in 2010, and even now, the MMORPG continues to go from strength to strength. After getting its long-awaited Xbox Series X/S launch earlier this year, the MMO recently saw the launch of its newest expansion, Dawntrail– and it seems that yet more significant milestones might also be in the pipeline.

Known leaker Kurakasis has claimed on the Exputer forums that a mobile version of Final Fantasy 14 is in development. The port is allegedly being handled by Tencent, with whom Square Enix entered into a strategic alliance back in 2018.

Allegedly, Tencent and Square were initially working on an unannounced NieR game for mobile devices, but that project was shelved, with work now being underway on bringing Final Fantasy 14 to mobile devices.

Square Enix recently announced that Final Fantasy 14 had seen its highest number of concurrent users since 2013 following the launch of Dawntrail. Read more on that through here.

Producer and director Naoki Yoshida also thanks players for their "patience and cooperation in dealing with server congestion".

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail recently launched in full, and though the highly anticipated expansion did see some initial issues (especially during its one-week early access period) related to server congestion, it has ultimately got off to a predictably impressive start.

In an update published by director and producer Naoki Yoshida, in fact, it has been revealed that following Dawntrail’s release, Final Fantasy 14 went on to enjoy its highest number of concurrent users across all platforms in over a decade, since the launch of A Realm Reborn in 2013.

“First, I would like to thank you all for your patience and cooperation in dealing with server congestion during the early access for Dawntrail,” Yoshida wrote. “With your support, we were able to reach a record number of concurrent users we’ve not seen since the release of A Realm Reborn in 2013.”

It will have helped, of course, that this is the first Final Fantasy 14 expansion that sees the game not only on PlayStation and PC, but also on Xbox.

Yoshida went on to apologize about “several issues that may have proven a hinderance to your overall experience”, and confirmed that such issues and more remain under investigation, with the development team looking to deploy fixes as quickly as they can. That will entail upcoming adjustments for a number of jobs, namely Astrologian, Monk, Viper, Pictomancer, Red Mage, Black Mage, Tank, and Samurai.

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PC,
