No matter how good or bad these games are, their AI leaves much to be desired.

For all of the great enemies that we’ve faced in gaming history – from the Marines in Half Life to the Replicants in F.E.A.R. – there are some that are simply dumb. We’re talking dumb as doorknobs and half as useful. We may never know why some enemy AI is so gosh-darn horrible but it’s still funny to witness. Let’s take a look at 14 games with terrible AI.

Days Gone

While the Freaker Hordes tend to be powerful threats, many of the Bandits in Days Gone are just dumb. It’s extremely easy to sneak up and kill them within a few feet of their allies without causing a stir. You can murder heaps of enemies from a bush simply because the others fail to react when one goes down. To think that these stray humans managed to survive when the Freakers are clearly smarter.

Like finding an oasis in the desert, these checkpoints stretched credulity.

Checkpoints and save points in video games can be rather underrated. You don’t really notice their importance until they’re gone…or unless some they’re spaced, forcing you to go long stretches without dying. Let’s take a look at 15 of the most unfair checkpoints in gaming.

Blood Stained Sanctuary – Cave Story

The Blood Stained Sanctuary is truly the toughest challenge that Cave Story has to offer. It has three sections filled with death spikes, falling blocks and respawning Butes. By the time you get to the end of the third section, it’s a battle with the first boss Heavy Press. But wait, there’s more! You then proceed down a passage to face the toughest boss in the game, Ballos with his four phases. Now make sure you do all of that in one go or you have to start from the beginning.

Later this month, Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 will both hit non-PlayStation consoles for the very first time when they release for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. Ahead of the launch of the beloved RPG (and its far less beloved sequel) on these new consoles, Square Enix has put out a brand new trailer for the game.

This trailer highlights the character dynamic that is at the center of Final Fantasy X and its story—Tidus and Yuna’s love story. Some great scenes between Tidus and Yuna are shared in this trailer interspersed with some not-so-great scenes from Final Fantasy X-2. Unfortunately, we must put up with the latter to get the former. It is what it is.

You can check out the trailer below. If you are interested in more classic Final Fantasy on Xbox and Switch, Final Fantasy 9 and 7 are now both available on the consoles for you to get as well.

The best gaming records you need to check out.

You gotta respect the kind of effort that goes into being the best in the world at something, and that kind of effort certainly deserves recognition. The kind of people who can organize the world’s largest tournaments or can say they’ve played the longest gaming session ever recorded are certainly something. We’re not here for those ones. We’re here to talk about some of the stranger ones, so buckle up and be sure to discuss your favourite below.

Jesse Moerkerk – Longest Game Session In Freefall

Some might say that Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the gravity mechanics within are out of this world, but gamer Jesse Moerkerk took that a bit more seriously than Nintendo intended when in 2011, he spent 18 minutes and 52 seconds within an indoor sky dive playing the game mid free fall. The 6’5” man was said to be very graceful while remaining suspended, though I imagine the waggling of the Wii Remote could have easily sent him into a tailspin.

These bosses didn't get our heart pounding quite as much as their comrades.

The masochists among us gamers go to games looking for something to push us a bit, challenge what we’ve learned and figured out about a game’s mechanics and the feeling that we get after conquering that tough boss is, well simply indescribable. Many series from Mega Man to Dark Souls have made their name on difficulty, but every once in awhile, even those games meant to be challenging have some cracks in their armour where they kind of just let us down. Here’s some of those times, but please don’t forget to share your own easy bosses in hard games in the comments below as well.

The Wall – Contra (1987)

Contra is a great game, given two Rambo knock offs a great excuse to shoot their way through a jungle infested by evil solders, turrets and exploding bridges. This challenge of dexterity must finish off in a suitable boss battle right? Well, how about you stand a safe distance away and shoot at a wall for a second.

You ain't so tough, are you?

Those big bad bosses that make or break a game are almost always massive set piece moments, some of the most memorable points on any video game, and the harder the better. Having something to triumph against is a better way to give your players pride and accomplishment than any loot box, but those truly memorable bosses, the ones that stick out in your mind, have that extra hidden weakness or strategy. Something you wouldn’t believe upon hearing it, but once you try it you just have your mind blown.

Taurus Demon – Dark Souls

Dark Souls is the alpha and omega of hard bosses, and the Taurus Demon, one of the earliest bosses in the entire Dark Souls series to introduce you to just how honest it’s going to keep you and burn that “You Died” screen into your retinas, is no pushover. But there is one advantage players have against the Taurus Demon. He’s really, really dumb. An easy AI exploit involving the towers at either end of the arena will let you repeatedly plunging attack the beastie for an easy win.

Final Fantasy X HD Remastered.

Whereas I personally am ambivalent at best, and largely negative at worst, about Square Enix’s Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, the fact remains that the games are largely regarded as classics by fans worldwide. The games, which originally released on the PlayStation 2, were immediate hits, and when they were eventually released remastered for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita last year, they managed to garner a fair share of that original success again.

Now, Square Enix has announced that it will be bringing the games over to Sony’s PlayStation 4 console soon as well. With a release set in May, it’s high time Square Enix started promoting it, and this newest trailer does just that. Showing off a series of scenes showcasing the world of Spira in a nostalgic montage, the video invites fans to visit the world of Final Fantasy X again.

Personally, I won’t be making the trip again, but for fans of the games, experiencing them re-remastered on the PS4 might be a dream come true.

Trying to move on from the horribly uncomfortable announcement that a 2 year old PC port of Final Fantasy VII was coming to PS4 in lieu of a remake, Square Enix are trying to shift eyes away from that and are instead talking about bringing more Final Fantasy games to the PS4.

Following the announcement of a X & X-2 HD remaster for the PS4 last week, producer Shinji Hashimoto said “Actually, not limited to just X/X-2, we’re currently thinking of setting [a way] to have other past Final Fantasy titles playable on the PS4,” he says, going on to say. “Most of our Final Fantasy assets go up until the PS3, while most of the world has rapidly been shifting towards the PS4.”

Moving onto the matter of the recently opened Chinese market, he said “And in China’s case, they’re practically starting with the PlayStation 4 as their main console,” he continued.” “For this reason, we’re keeping in mind the sense of crisis of not being able to play these masterpiece titles.”

What do you think? Bring back the golden oldies or focus on making something new?

Arguably one of the best Final Fantasy games of all time, Final Fantasy XII has never gotten the love that it truly deserved, for multiple reasons- the game launched in 2006 after a protracted development cycle and by then, all attention had already shifted to the PlayStation 3 and the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII. The game’s radical changes to the series formula polarized fans, and it took the release of Final Fantasy XIII, and its absolute mucking up of series conventions for Final Fantasy XII to be viewed in a favorable light.

When Final Fantasy X was announced for an HD re-release (an excellent remaster that released earlier this year for the PS3 and PS Vita), there were fans that held out in the hope that the same treatment would be extended to Final Fantasy XII, aided by Square Enix’s own sly promises that an HD remaster for Final Fantasy XII was coming up. And now, it seems like the game may be due for an E3 announcement.

GameSkinny is citing an anonymous tipster who believes Square Enix is readying up an FF12 HD announcement within the next month, if not at E3 outright. Apparently, the source has a good track record, as among many other things, he confirmed that Final Fantasy Versus XIII would be renamed Final Fantasy XV.

Square Enix would be remiss to not capitalize on XII’s cult popularity, especially given how successful a venture FFX HD seems to have been for them. Whether or not they do that, however, remains to be seen.

Enhanced graphics! Trophies! Other such stuff!

I did not like Final Fantasy X at all, and I liked its sequel even less so, but even I am excited about the upcoming HD remasters (that took, what, three years to release since their initial announcement? Longest gestation period for an HD remaster ever) for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. Who knows, maybe ten years later, I might even like it.

To drum up the hype for this re-release of a beloved classic, Square Enix decided that it was time to advertise the most obvious features in the upcoming package- like the enhanced HD graphics, or the Trophy support, or the new cutscenes, or the token new content. Or the support for Cross Save. I, for one, would never have guessed that any of this would be in the package.

In all seriousness though, the package looks like it will provide for a good role playing experience. It releases on PS Vita and PS3 next month. Stay tuned.
