Game development can be tough, and very few developers set out to make a game that will fail. It does happen though, especially if a title is long on ambition and short on proper execution. Let’s look at 15 of the most ambitious games over the past few years that flopped, whether in terms of sales, critical reviews or player reception.

Mass Effect Andromeda

Mass Effect Andromeda tried to do a lot. It tried to tell a new story with a brand new cast, with the team behind Mass Effect 3’s stellar multiplayer in charge. It also opted for much larger play spaces and more build diversity. However, from the very outset, there were issues, whether it was the plan to have randomly generated planets, Frostbite being a mess, high-level departures, etc. Despite being decent in several ways, Andromeda flopped hard enough that publisher EA reportedly cancelled DLC and put the franchise on ice for a few years.

Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 Announced, More Details Coming July 28th

CyberConnect2 has announced that Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 is officially in development. A release date and platforms haven’t been announced but more details are coming on July 28th, 8 PM JST time. They will be revealed on the “Fuga: Melodies of Steel 1st Anniversary Special Broadcast” on YouTube.

Executive producer Hiroshi Matsuyama and producer Tetsuya Murakami (who worked on the first game) will present the broadcast. Originally released in July 2021 for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch, Fuga: Melodies of Steel is about 11 children who survive an attack on their village by the Berman Empire. Taking control of the Taranis, a powerful tank, they set out to free their families.

Along with incredible firepower, the Taranis also has the Soul Cannon. This is capable of immense destruction but requires sacrificing a party member. With turn-based combat across 12 chapters and several endings, it’s up to players to reunite the children with their parents without incurring any losses.

Fuga: Melodies of Steel Launching Next Month

Developer CyberConnect2 has announced that Fuga: Melodies of Steel, an RPG in the Little Tail Bronx series, will be releasing digitally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via both Steam and the Epic Games Store on July 29th. The game will cost $39.99.

Fuga: Melodies of Steel with support both Japanese and French voice-overs and Japanese, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese subtitles. In addition to the $39.99 edition, a $59.99 Deluxe Edition will also release. This edition will include an eighty-page digital artbook, a fifteen-song digital soundtrack, and several in-game items.

Fuga: Melodies of Steel as an interesting premise, according to the developer: “One fateful night, a peaceful village is thrown into the flames of war. Determined to save their families captured by the Berman Army, a group of children hops aboard a giant tank, the Taranis. They make their way through the country, fighting against the Berman Army as they search for their families.”
