What’s the Gears of War game we’ve all been giddily anticipating since the day it was first announced more than two years ago? Why, it’s Gears POP! of course. Seriously though- heavily anticipated or not (it was the latter), it seems like the mobile offshoot of the shooter franchise is still doing very well for itself.

Rod Fergusson, studio head at Gears of War custodians The Coalition, recently took to Twitter, and confirmed that the game has accrued over 1 million players already. Considering that those are numbers garnered in just the first week of the game being available, that’s a pretty impressive launch.

Of course, if you’re more concerned with other, more core Gears titles, there’s plenty coming our way. Gears 5 is out for the Xbox One and PC very shortly, on September 10. Meanwhile, Gears Tactics is also in development at Splash Damage, and it was recently confirmed that that would be coming to Xbox One as well.

Remember Gears POP!, the strategy title which features Gears of War characters as adorable Funko Pop! figures? It’s out on August 22nd for iOS, Android and Windows 10. Check out the latest trailer for the free to play title below which contains even more Pop! shenanigans.

The title features over 30 characters which you collect and upgrade before taking them into battles. The main focus is real time strategy combat against other players. Overall, the aesthetic is cute, if completely weird considering the Gears of War franchise till date.

Don’t worry though – more Gears of War news is coming at Inside Xbox. The Coalition will be showcasing Horde Mode for Gears 5, offering a look at how the co-op PvE experience has evolved. We’ll see some campaign gameplay from Gamescom Opening Night Live later. Stay tuned for more details and announcements in the meantime. Gears 5 wasn’t the only new Gears of War game announced at Microsoft’s E3 show this year. It wasn’t even the first- in fact, two other Gears of War games were announced before it. The first of these was Gears Pop, a new Gears of War spin off featuring the same aesthetic as the popular Funko Pop line of toys, that was announced for later this year, coming to iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.

If that had been the only announcement, it would actually have been pretty disappointing, but Microsoft had another followup one which was pretty damn good. The next announcement was of Gears Tactics, a brand new Gears of War tactical turn based strategy game in the vein of XCOM that was confirmed to be coming to PC this year- no Xbox One release for this one, which makes this the first PC exclusive Gears of War game ever.

I’m a bit bummed about Gears Tactics specifically missing Xbox One, but on the other hand, at least we still have Gears of War 5 to look forward to on the Xbox One.
