Tekken 8

The Tekken saga has always been drenched in betrayal that helps it stand outfrom the rest of the crowd, but Tekken 8 pushes that intensity higher than ever. That increase in intensity can be felt across each punch, kick, and slam as these hulking behemoths fight each other to the death. The generational curse of the Mishima family continues, and we find Jin at an interesting crossroads – continuing down the dark path of revenge much like Heihachi or Kayuza, or try to become a better man and break free from the cycle of violence. The fights here carry emotional weight beyond the tournament stage, and that makes this journey a lot more compelling to complete than prior entries in the series.

Hollow Knight: Silksong, RoadCraft, Nine Sols, and More Headline Game Pass Wave 1 in September

Microsoft has announced its first wave of titles coming to Game Pass in September and most important among them all is Hollow Knight: Silksong. Launching on September 4th, it will be available for Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers on Xbox consoles, PC, and cloud.

In the meantime, I Am Your Beast is available now for all three subscriber tiers on cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. Standard subscribers can also play Nine Sols, another critically acclaimed Metroidvania, on September 3rd. On the same day as Silksong, Digital Sun’s Cataclismo will be available for PC subscribers.

PAW Patrol World is next up on September 10th for all tiers on cloud, consoles and PC, followed by Saber Interactive’s RoadCraft on September 16th for Ultimate and Standard subscribers. Not the busiest month for first-party titles, but The Outer Worlds 2 is still to come in October.

As usual, select titles will be leaving Game Pass on September 15th. Check them out below and either finish them beforehand or purchase them at 20 percent off.

Games where you grab a gun and blast an assortment of baddies into bloody corpses continues to be the world’s leading video game genre, and every year hundreds of first and third-person shooters flood the market, inhibiting numerous sub-genres in varying quality. As it happens though, 2024 has been a stellar year for shooting games. This year’s shooters have brought much-needed freshness to the table, whilst an onslaught of online co-operative and so-called boomer shooters have provided entertainment in their droves. This year’s list was tough to compile, but there’s a fantastic selection here; shooters which will appeal to everyone. Furthermore, the list is ranked 15-to-1, from good to great.

The First Descendant

Kicking things off with free to play third-person looter shooter The First Descendant, this co-operative RPG tasks teams of up to four with saving humanity from a string of hostile invaders. It harbours everything you could ever want in a modern-day shooter: flashy gunplay, intricate visuals, and a varied cast of colourful characters each with unique skills and capabilities. However, there are problems in its frustratingly slow progression, non-existent story, and atrocious balancing. Sort these issues out and The First Descendant could achieve some longevity in what is becoming an increasingly challenging domain.
