Mine, and many others, was the first <em>Final Fantasy 7 Remake</em> reveal during a PlayStation State of Play back in 2015. That feeling of your favorite childhood game getting the royal treatment with the best of modern technology is unparalleled. Of course, some remakes or sequels don’t feel as magical and pure as the original, but we all want to experience the hype regardless.</p>
<p>Sequels and remakes are tricky to get right. It can be hard to preserve the charm and quality of the original in a follow-up. It can be even tougher to surpass and iterate on what the first game did so well. Some games are just absolutely begging to be expanded upon with a new entry, and it’s those that we’ll be highlighting here. Each of these titles represents a ‘what if’ that gamers are hungry to see happen one day, but whether due to corporate meddling or cancellations, they still seem so far away.</p>
<p>So with that, here are the ten games whose surprise trailers would make the community absolutely lose it.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">Days Gone 2</h2>

<p>While the odds of a <em>Days Gone</em> sequel remains unlikely, Sony Bend has managed to stir hype thanks to the game’s April 2025 remaster. with its remaster. <em>Days Gone Remaster</em> finally smooths out the original’s rough framerate while enhancing its visuals with better shadows and 4K resolution. That release reignited hope for a sequel, but those hopes were eventually crushed when Sony Bend posted a job listing seeking someone with “experience with multiplayer game development and design.” The studio has a history of outright dismissing any possibility of a sequel in the past as well, but demand remains high, and where there’s demand, there’s money. Knowing Sony, it wouldn’t be completely implausible to eventually see a <em>Days Gone 2</em> in the future, especially if fans remain vocal about it.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">The Saboteur 2</h2>
<p>Remember Pandemic? No, not the 2020 one, the studio that brought us <em>Destroy All Humans</em> and <em>Mercenaries Playground of Destruction</em>. <em>The Saboteur</em> was their last game before being dissolved into the rest of EA, and it had a lot of unique things going for it. Sure, it followed the Ubisoft open-world design ethos, but the WWII France setting and the mechanic of restoring color to liberated districts stood out. Now imagine how cool a sequel with top-notch voice talent and an actually compelling story would be. With EA’s enormous budget and the creative potential of that setting, a <em>Saboteur 2</em> could finally give us a <em>GTA</em>-style game set in WWII Europe, but it’s a long shot at best.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">Uncharted 5</h2>

<p>The last time we ventured into the world of <em>Uncharted</em> was 2017’s spin-off starring Chloe and Nadine. <em>Lost Legacy</em> seemed to be paving the way for the next generation of <em>Uncharted</em> with its more open-ended exploration and, well, lack of Nathan Drake. Of course, Nathan’s story isn’t necessarily over following the ending of <em>Uncharted 4</em>. Like Indy coming out of retirement in the latest <em>Indiana Jones</em> films, Nathan can be called for one last globe-trotting adventure. <em>Uncharted 5</em> is rather likely to happen at some point. Naughty Dog has been working on a project led by <em>Uncharted</em> writer Shaun Escayg for years now, and it’s not <em>Intergalactic</em>. It’s unlikely we’ll see <em>Uncharted 5</em> before <em>Intergalactic</em> releases, but we sure hope to see it at some point.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">Bloodborne 2</h2>

<p>Is there any video game sequel more craved than <em>Bloodborne 2</em>? <em>Bloodborne</em> is the one gigantic Sony-owned IP that somehow just keeps getting overlooked. <em>The Last of Us</em> got numerous remasters and even <em>Days Gone</em> just received one. What is Sony waiting for? Well, one thing’s certain: if <em>Bloodborne 2</em> were announced, it would be the only game capable of rivaling <em>GTA 6</em> in sheer hype. Here’s hoping it avoids the multiplayer-heavy direction of FromSoftware’s recent projects and instead doubles down on the slow-burn, atmospheric exploration that made the original <em>Bloodborne</em> unforgettable.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">Titanfall 3</h2>

<p><em>Titanfall 3</em> occupies the same heartbreaking territory as <em>Bloodborne 2</em>: everyone wants it, yet EA refuses to greenlight it. The first cancellation came in 2019, when EA halted development in favor of <em>Apex Legends</em>, chasing the booming hero-shooter market and its lucrative ongoing revenue. Then, earlier in 2025, The developer had to shutter their planned <em>Titanfall</em> extraction shooter due to layoffs. What made <em>Titanfall 2</em> so special was its well-paced and wildly inventive single-player campaign. It’s probably the last significant FPS campaign that I can think of that wasn’t a <em>Doom</em> title. It’s still not an impossibility that the developer gets a legitimate opportunity to make <em>Titanfall 3</em>, but a major shift in EA’s priorities needs to happen first.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">Sleeping Dogs 2</h2>

<p>This one’s more of a pipe dream than others on this list. <em>Sleeping Dogs</em> is a very popular cult classic for a reason; it oozed personality and was a genuine counterpart to <em>GTA</em>. Unfortunately, the development studio, United Front Games, shut down in 2016. The main developer still holds the rights to the <em>Sleeping Dogs</em> IP, though, so maybe there is a snowball’s chance in Southtown for it to happen. The studio’s MMO spin-off, <em>Triad Wars</em>, took place within the universe of <em>Sleeping Dogs</em>. launched briefly in open beta but was quickly shut down after poor reception. But imagine a thoroughbred sequel to <em>Sleeping Dogs</em>, one that wasn’t a sloppy MMO, but a single-player game with a more intricate Hong Kong map filled with fully realized martial-arts combat propelled by modern processing power. A proper <em>Sleeping Dogs 2</em> could be incredible.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">Metal Gear 1 Remake</h2>

<p>“I FEEL ASLEEP!!” Imagine that iconic line from the 1988 NES version of the original <em>Metal Gear</em> (first released in 1987) being fully voiced in a modern, high-fidelity remake. Unlike polished and cleaned up script of the <em>Final Fantasy 7 Remake</em>, I’d want Konami to preserve the hilarious botched translation of the original. It would both honor Kojima and provide some charm to the game. Of course, the fully blown HD graphics and character renderings would probably make those lines extra awkward, but hey, that’s what makes the series so lovable, right? The good news is a remake of the original <em>Metal Gear</em> isn’t impossible. Konami has shown a willingness to remake classic <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> titles faithfully. And what better candidates than the very first games from the ’80s?</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">New Dino Crisis</h2>

<p>Forget a new <em>Dino Crisis</em>—I’d settle for a remaster or a full remake of the first game. Oh, who am I kidding, I want a new <em>Dino Crisis</em>, sigh. The developer sits on the most beloved dormant IP, barely acknowledging series that fans have begged to see return. Who doesn’t want a new <em>Mega Man</em> (especially <em>Legends</em>), <em>Breath of Fire</em>, or of course, <em>Dino Crisis</em>? <em>Dino Crisis</em>—a 90s survival-horror game —never grew past its more action-oriented 2003 third entry. But fans still swear by the first game, which followed the classic <em>Resident Evil</em> formula in a <em>Jurassic Park</em>-inspired setting. A modern-day game firing on all cylinders would do justice to the original <em>Dino Crisis</em> if <em>RE 2</em> and <em>RE 3 Remakes</em> are anything to go by. But just imagine what they could do with a completely new entry with the mature horror and first-person perspective of, say, <em>Resident Evil 7</em>.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">A New inFamous</h2>

<p>Continuing the trend of studios sitting on a golden goose is Sucker Punch and their dormant <em>i</em><em>nFamous</em> series. There was a time when a new InFamous game was the talk of the gaming town. It was a series about open world parkouring around realistic city-scapes. But one element that sets <em>inFamous</em> apart is its Karma system. You can choose your morality in these games, something that shows itself in the powers you unlock as well as key story decisions. With today’s more advanced processing and capabilities, the potential of that system is enormous. Imagine branching storylines, deeper morality-driven powers, and immersive-sim-style world reactions. Heck, just adding more customization elements based on morality would be awesome. But Sucker Punch will need to step away from <em>Ghost</em> to make it happen—and it’s unclear when that day will come.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">Sekiro 2</h2>

<p>Finally, we have another FromSoftware juggernaut that’s been left alone since its release. Unlike <em>Bloodborne</em>, <em>Sekiro</em> never even received any DLC. None. We all kinda applauded their restraint at the time, but after some years away, it’s hard not to wish the game had gotten an expansion or two. Out of all the Fromsoft games, <em>Sekiro</em> takes the cake for having the most awesome combat. Its very focused and specialized, leading to more intricate and precise controls. Sure, <em>Sekiro</em> didn’t have a lot of playstyles to choose from, but that focus is what made the limited style so polished. A sequel could expand your playstyle selection pretty significantly, and without sacrificing the original’s polish. The core combat system is already built—they’d just need to expand the build options a bit. Fans would love to see it, but as many know, Hidetaka Miyazaki isn’t fond of sequels. So while Sekiro 2 would be a dream come true, we shouldn’t expect it anytime soon.</p>

<p>With all the hype around <em>Ghost of Yōtei</em>, and even <em>Ghost of Tsushima</em> when it launched in 2020, it&#8217;s easy to forget Sucker Punch&#8217;s other famous IPs. But what about the likes of<em> inFamous</em>? The open-world superhero titles stood out in the PlayStation 3 generation and even on the PS4 with <em>inFamous: Second Son</em>.</p>



<p>However, it&#8217;s since been relegated to the side. While speaking to <a href="https://gameinformer.com/interview/2025/07/17/ghost-of-yotei-directors-share-philosophy-on-balancing-freedom-with-story" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Game Informer</a>, <em>Ghost of Yōtei</em> co-director Nate Fox said he would &#8220;love to work on more <em>inFamous</em>&#8221; and even &#8220;see a trilogy re-release.&#8221; For the time being, the studio is a &#8220;one game at a time shop, and right now we are very focused on finishing Ghost of Yōtei.&#8221;</p>



<p>So while you should never say never, a new <em>inFamous</em> is unlikely anytime soon. It would be interesting to see if Sony pursues a re-release compilation of the previous titles and their DLC, especially for PS5. After all, <em>Ratchet and Clank Collection, Jak and Daxter Collection</em> and even Sucker Punch&#8217;s <em>The Sly Collection</em> remain on PS3 and PlayStation Vita. Time will tell, so stay tuned.</p>



<p>As for <em>Ghost of Yōtei</em>, it launches on October 2nd for PS5 and aims for <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/ghost-of-yotei-is-the-same-length-as-ghost-of-tsushima-says-co-director">the same length as <em>Ghost of Tsushima</em></a> but with more varied activities. And despite theories surrounding his potential return, Jin Sakai <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/ghost-of-yotei-wont-feature-ghost-of-tsushimas-jin-sakai">won&#8217;t be present</a>.</p>

With a couple of features in the past, we&#8217;ve looked at several PlayStation-exclusive titles that fit that description, and here, we&#8217;re going to continue doing that. Here are a few more of the biggest video game worlds you can explore in games on PlayStation consoles.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>HORIZON FORBIDDEN WEST</strong></p>

<p>We&#8217;ll start things off with one of the most obvious entries. <em>Horizon Forbidden West </em>had the tall order of one-upping its predecessor&#8217;s open world, and it did so with surprising ease and confidence. Its map is massive and brimming with engaging quests and breathtaking sights, making exploration endlessly engaging in a way that&#8217;s rare to see in games. The fact that it&#8217;s also one of the best-looking games ever made only makes its map that much more unforgettable.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>FINAL FANTASY 7 REBIRTH</strong></p>
<p>One of the most recent entries on our list, and also one of the most outstanding. Honestly, it&#8217;s hard to believe that something on <em>Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth&#8217;s </em>scale can even exist in the current AAA market. Its world is mind-bogglingly large, but on top of that, also boasts some of the most impressive environmental variety you&#8217;ll ever see. There&#8217;s a bevy of towns and cities to visit, an impressive variety of side activities, minigames, and side quests throughout the map, a startling number of unique traversal methods across different regions- and that&#8217;s just scratching the surface.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>GOD OF WAR RAGNAROK</strong></p>
<p><em>God of War Ragnarok </em>took the wide-linear, semi-open world approach of its 2018 predecessor and did what you would expect a sequel to do by expanding its scope by a noticeable degree. There&#8217;s a handful of large, semi-open maps that you explore throughout the game, and each of them houses a hefty amount of side content that&#8217;s almost always well worth seeking out. Some areas are particularly excellent- like the Crater in Vanaheim, which might just be one of the best areas in any <em>God of War </em>game ever</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>MARVEL&#8217;S SPIDER-MAN 2</strong></p>
<p>After letting players zip through the same New York City map in two games, with <em>Marvel&#8217;s Spider-Man 2, </em>Insomniac decided to expand the available play space by nearly doubling the size of the map. But <em>Spider-Man 2&#8217;s </em>New York isn&#8217;t just impressive because it&#8217;s larger- it&#8217;s <em>particularly </em>impressive because, typically enough for the series, traversing it is an absolute dream. Significant improvements to the core webswinging mechanics (most notably the faster speed of movement) are combined with new mechanics like the Web Wings to ensure that moving through <em>Spider-Man 2&#8217;s </em>Manhattan never, ever gets boring.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>NIOH</strong></p>

<p><em>Nioh </em>was obviously not anywhere close to being an open world game, but in spite of its segmented, level-based structure, it was a surprisingly (surprisingly at the time, at least) beefy experience. Levels in <em>Nioh </em>could be quite large, and exploration was often handsomely rewarded. If you&#8217;re the sort of player that doesn&#8217;t just stick to the critical path, you can lose yourself in <em>Nioh&#8217;s </em>world for dozens upon dozens of hours on end.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>RISE OF THE RONIN</strong></p>
<p>Breaking from tradition, Team Ninja recently delivered its first ever open world game in the form of <em>Rise of the Ronin</em>, and though the game&#8217;s execution of some of its new ideas divides fans, there&#8217;s no doubting that those looking for a massive map to explore will find it here. <em>Rise of the Ronin&#8217;s </em>19th century Japan map is brimming with things to do, and regardless of whether or not it sticks the landing in other areas, when it comes to its traversal mechanics, the game never loses its charm.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>FINAL FANTASY 16</strong></p>
<p><em>Final Fantasy 16 </em>not being an open world game was a disappointment to some, but even with its semi-open structure, the action title succeeds in giving players a large world to explore. There&#8217;s a number of sizeable maps that players visit throughout the entirety of the game, with an abundance of side quests, hunts, and more to seek out. Admittedly, mileage varies on how engaging that content is- but those who love the game&#8217;s combat enough to fully dive into all of its offerings aren&#8217;t left wanting.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>FORSPOKEN</strong></p>
<p>The prospect of a new AAA open world action RPG IP from Square Enix was an exciting one on paper, but <em>Forspoken </em>turned out to be one of the more prominent high-profile failures of the industry in recent memory. Even so, though it disappointed in a number of key areas, <em>Forspoken </em>still had its strengths. Chief among them were its traversal mechanics, which made zipping and flying across its world a constant blast, even if other aspects of the open world experience were often subpar.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>INFAMOUS 2</strong></p>

<p>We&#8217;ve spoken about <em>inFamous Second Son </em>in previous editions of this feature, so here, we&#8217;re going to turn the spotlight on its immediate predecessor. Though not as large the many PlayStation open worlds that followed in the years after its release, <em>inFamous 2 </em>was a sizeable game in its own right. The city of New Marais also looked and felt much more alive than the first game&#8217;s Empire City, and above all else, served as an excellent sandbox for players to wreak havoc in as a superhero (or supervillain).</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>THE LAST GUARDIAN</strong></p>
<p><em>The Last Guardian </em>is another example of how even a linear game craft a deceptively large world- one that perhaps feels even larger than it is. Environments in the acclaimed action-adventure title were often quite large, of course, while their underlying atmosphere of mystery made them seem that much more imposing. And of course, with a companion like Trico always by your side, exploring your surroundings and discovering secrets always felt rewarding, especially as your bond with the adorable creature grew.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>KILLZONE SHADOW FALL</strong></p>

<p><em>Killzone Shadow Fall </em>did something most had never thought <em>Killzone </em>would ever do by shedding the hyper-linear design style of its predecessors in favour of much larger and more open-ended levels- and it worked out surprisingly well. By presenting players with a number of different options when chasing specific objectives, levels in <em>Shadow Fall </em>often encouraged exploration in ways that you wouldn&#8217;t necessarily expect from a <em>Killzone </em>game. Of course, it was by no means a massive experience in any sense of the word, but it provided an exciting glimpse of what a <em>Killzone </em>game in a larger, more open world could look like- one that still hasn&#8217;t been followed up on, unfortunately.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>RETURNAL</strong></p>
<p>Given its roguelite nature, you become very familiar with each of <em>Returnal&#8217;s </em>six biomes as you make your way through the game, and it&#8217;s hard not to be surprised at just how large the game is. Each biome is not only significantly different from most others, they&#8217;re all also surprisingly large, and made to feel even more so that the randomization of which areas and rooms you see in each biome changes in every run. Add to that rewarding optional content and some sprinkles of solid Metroidvania-style exploration, and traversing these large maps manages to remain compelling throughout the game.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>UNCHARTED 4: A THIEF&#8217;S END</strong></p>

<p>Naughty Dog has mastered the art of crafting linear, cinematic experiences like no other studio has been able to, but it has also been sprinkling larger and more open-ended levels into its games over the last several years. That started with <em>Uncharted 4</em>, which not only has a semi-open world section in Madagascar, but also has regular levels that are much wider in scope than previous <em>Uncharted </em>titles. Like a couple other Naughty Dog games in recent (or relatively recent) years, it&#8217;s an intriguing glimpse of what a non-linear Naughty Dog game would look like.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>UNCHARTED: THE LOST LEGACY</strong></p>
<p>Immediately after <em>Uncharted 4</em>, Naughty Dog followed up on its semi-open world section with a similar section with an even wider scop in <em>Uncharted: The Lost Legacy</em>, even if the game itself was obviously smaller in totality. Specifically, we&#8217;re talking about <em>The Lost Legacy&#8217;s</em> Western Ghats, a fairly sizeable map that players are allowed to explore freely, as much or as little as they want. Traversing through the environments in your 4&#215;4 and seeking out optional content and hidden treasure is surprisingly engaging, ensuring that this section stands out as a highlight of the game.</p>

<p>The first iteration of Telltale Games had a spotty track record with licensed properties in its latter years, but one in particular where the studio knocked it out of the work was <em>Batman</em>. And though the first Telltale <em>Batman </em>game was solid enough in its own right, its sequel, <em>The Enemy Within</em>, took things to much greater heights. Its portrayal and characterization of Batman and the Joker deserves all the praise in the world, and the complex, nuanced dynamic between the two characters is something every <em>Batman </em>fan needs to experience.</p>

<p>While Guerrilla Games has become well-known for the Horizon series, remastering Killzone 2 for the PS5 seems a given. It&#8217;s the game that put the company on the map and its excellent visual fidelity, attention to detail, fun gun play and solid multiplayer would make a smooth transition over to the console. If a new sequel on PS5 isn&#8217;t coming any time soon, then it makes sense to revisit Killzone 2 in some capacity.</p>

<p><b>No Man&#8217;s Sky</b></p>

<p>No Man&#8217;s Sky was hyped to the high heavens. No one can deny that. But the launch was missing so much and we&#8217;re not talking about the lack of “meeting other people” (which was stated to be very hard, not impossible). The lack of decent closure in the story, repetitive gameplay, no huge space battles – the list goes on. Hello Games went dark for some time, prompting more backlash, but eventually emerged with the Foundation update which brought base-building. This was followed by the Pathfinder update which introduced new vehicles and Survival mode and then Atlas Rises which added significantly more story content. The Next update added four player co-op while Beyond brought support for 32 players on one server. All of these updates were free, redeeming the developer&#8217;s reputation somewhat.</p>

But sometimes, games turn the tables on us, and we end up empathizing with these bosses (or at least end up feeling bad for them), either because of their tragic pasts, or just their sheer bad luck. In this feature, we&#8217;ll be taking a look at fifteen such bosses.</p>

<p>William Birkin is no saint, and throughout the <em>Resident Evil </em>franchise, he&#8217;s been responsible for plenty of bad stuff, the most prominent of which was the outbreak in Raccoon City, which led to the entire city being nuked. But the fate that he suffered was a horrible one nonetheless. After Birkin infected himself with the G-Virus, he gradually became a prisoner in his own body, and in this tortured state, he was essentially forced to watch from the sidelines as the virus took over his body and mind and did one horrible thing after another.</p>
