Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is raking it in this year.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has had a very successful year despite launch woes associated with two of its biggest names. The Wall Street Journal reported that Batman: Arkham Knight and Mortal Kombat sold more than five million units each since their respective launches. Interestingly, the success of the video game helped offset the movie division’s below average efforts.

LEGO Jurassic World also seemed to hit it big with roughly four million units out there, though whether this is the number shipped or sold wasn’t confirmed.

Batman: Arkham Knight released to critical acclaim on the PS4 and Xbox One but faced severe issues on the PC due to glitches, crashes and graphical bugs. This causes Warner Bros. to pull the PC version from retail for fixing – it’s due to re-release by October end. Then there’s Mortal Kombat X which faced lag and matchmaking issues when it first launched with the PC version bearing the brunt of these issues.

What are your thoughts on the success of both games though? Let us know in the comments below.

Next week could be a different story, given the high-profile releases coming out.

Though the beginning of this week marks several big releases like Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Until Dawn, the previous week in the UK was fairly typical sales-wise. Gfk Chart-Track reported that LEGO Jurassic World was still the top selling title which minimal changes to the top ten.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is currently in second place and is fast approaching nearly two years in the top ten following its original release on Xbox 360 and PS3. Batman: Arkham is currently in third place, which is good news considering it’s also published by WB Interactive Entertainment. It was followed by Battlefield: Hardline at fourth and Minecraft: Xbox Edition at fifth place.

FIFA 15, Minecraft: PlayStation Edition, Dying Light, The Elder Scrolls Online and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare round the remaining top ten. Stay tuned in the following week and see which games, be it Gears of War: Ultimate Edition or Until Dawn, debut on top in the UK.

The lack of major releases helps Traveller's Tales prevail again.

In light of the lack of releases this past week, LEGO Jurassic World climbed the sales charts once more in the UK to become the highest selling title across all platforms. This is according to the latest data from Gfk Chart-Track.

Grand Theft Auto 5 took the number two spot, followed by The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited which went up to third place. Batman: Arkham Knight is in fourth place with FIFA 15 in at fifth place.

Rare Replay, which became the first Xbox One exclusive to top the charts on its debut (Titanfall was also available for PC and Xbox 360), is currently at sixth place followed by Battlefield: Hardline. As for Minecraft, both the Xbox and PlayStation Edition were in the top ten at eighth and ninth respectively. Dying Light managed to hit tenth place in light of the news that it sold more than 5 million copies worldwide.

Thoughts on this week’s UK sales? Let us know in the comments.

Rare's compilation is the first true Xbox One exclusive to enter in first place for the UK.

The release of the recent Rare Replay has helped Microsoft achieved a rather phenomenal feat. According to the Gfk Chart-Track in the UK, Rare Replay is the first truly exclusive Xbox One title to capture the top spot since the console’s launch. Titanfall had also achieved the top spot but was available on Xbox 360 and PC as well.

There wasn’t much competition for Rare Replay this week with LEGO Jurassic World holding steady at second place despite sales dropping by 21 percent and Batman: Arkham Knight at third place with a 22 percent decrease in sales. The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, interestingly enough, shot to fourth place while Grand Theft Auto 5 dropped down to fifth.

EA’s FIFA 15 and Battlefield Hardline are currently at sixth and seventh respectively but Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is intriguing for debuting at first place and now being in eight place. F1 2015 is in ninth followed by Minecraft: Xbox Edition.

TT Games' goes Jurassic in its latest action adventure platformer.

Often times, there’s the argument that “If you’ve played one LEGO game, you’ve played them all” and thankfully, TT Games has managed to avoid this generalization by providing strong gameplay, unique scripting and enjoyable settings for each of its games. However, there’s still the visual style which falls into that trap, especially since there’s only so much you can do to improve the quality of LEGO blocks on your screen.

LEGO Jurassic World may not look much different from your typical LEGO game but that’s not really what its players are in for. They’re here to have a good time. So the question is whether it leverages its technology to make an enjoyable experience or not. Unsurprisingly, it does and like previous games before it, LEGO Jurassic World is reliable and solid throughout. It’s still an incredibly subtle update to the overall LEGO game formula and TT Games has saved many of its biggest leaps for when it’s ready to impress. However, there are still many little tweaks and changes for long-time fans of the series to notice.

If you’ve played a LEGO game, you’ll no doubt have noticed the various little LEGO bricks that can be collected along with the various mini-figures on-screen. TT Games has refined this little visual spectacle with advanced shading and lighting along with post-process effects to lend a more realistic approach to the proceedings. There’s even some screen space reflections to ogle this time around along with effects like rain have also been added along with smoke.

How different could a LEGO game be across different current gen consoles? The PS4 and Xbox One versions both sport a native 1920×1080 frame buffer. Post-process anti-aliasing has been used in both versions though. This kind of solution offers a softer look ad does a fantastic job of eliminating jaggy edges.

Shadow quality is the same across both consoles and screen space ambient occlusion is also present across both. Combine this with camera and object blur and LEGO Jurassic World fulfills its cinematic obligations in more ways than one. It should also be noted that the cut-scenes are presented in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio, which add to the cinematic presentation (since the game is based off of a series of movies) and results in black bars at the bottom and top during cut-scenes.

An interesting little discovery is the use of lower resolution assets in some places across both the PS4 and Xbox One versions. The porting process might have missed that extra bit of clean up but the texture detail is identical across both consoles. The level of detail on models is also pretty much the same on both. Along with low-resolution assets, some low-quality reflection map shave also been used.

Head to head video comparison between PS4 and Xbox One versions. Select playback in 1080p and 60fps for best possible video quality.

Speaking more on the characters, they look pretty impressive with the different material shaders which now have different reflective properties, we get to see how these objects look under different environmental conditions. It’s an extra layer of polish that’s much appreciated and the result looks great.

When it comes to the frame rate, both the Xbox One and PS4 versions run at 30 frames per second. You may think that 60 FPS would have been better but this frame rate serves the LEGO gameplay just fine due to the lack of any real twitch movements. As noted, object blur is used judiciously and somewhat improves the perceived frame rate when the game is in motion. And again, it only adds to the overall cinematic presentation.

LEGO Jurassic World won’t be breaking the mold with its visuals or competing with the most bleeding-edge AAA titles. What it offers is a visual style that fans will be comfortable with while providing numerous improvements and little touches on top of this. It may be a while before we see a giant step forward in the visuals (on, say, the level of The LEGO Movie) but for now, TT Games has shown a deep understanding of what presentation is appropriate for each property. Since LEGO Jurassic World coincides with the release of the feature film, it only makes sense to give it that sense of cinematic wonder that also defines the old films.

Technically, LEGO Jurassic World works in many ways. Despite clipping light shafts in some scenes and a few low resolution assets, the game offers a strong mix of post-processing effects and anti-aliasing set in 1080p resolution with minimal jaggies and an excellent combination of shaders. There really isn’t any difference between the PS4 and Xbox One versions so purchase whichever version you see fit since you’re essentially getting the same experience.

EA's sub-par golf game is a strong seller in the UK.

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour isn’t quite the AAA golf title EA was hoping it would be (you can check out our official review here) but it’s certainly notched up those kinds of sales in the UK for recent weeks. Gfk Chart Track has reported on the top-selling titles for the past week in the country and Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is in first place for the second week in a row.

Granted there haven’t been any new releases but the game has some stiff competition in the form of LEGO Jurassic World, Batman: Arkham Knight, F1 2015 and Grand Theft Auto 5, which make up the remainder of the top five.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has still managed to stay in the top ten along with the Xbox and PlayStation Editions of Minecraft. The Elder Scrolls Online saw a strong showing when it first debuted but is now in ninth place. FIFA 15 rounds out the remainder of the list.

Expect Rory McIlroy’s reign of terror to continue for a few more weeks. We’ll have to wait to see how Rare Replay fares when it releases on August 4th for Xbox One.

A fun-filled game for you and your family.

Dinosaurs and LEGO. Possibly two of my favourite things. So what’s not to love about LEGO Jurassic World? Sure it’s the same tried-and-tested formula that Traveller’s Tales and Warner Bros keep wheeling out but this prehistoric caper has to rank among my favourite LEGO titles of recent years.

The film has reached the $1bn mark at the box office faster than any other movie ever and the video game version of LEGO Jurassic Park has also been a roaring success, quickly making its way to the top of the charts.

Throughout the 20 fun story levels, you’ll encounter loads of characters recognizable from the four Jurassic movies (and quite a few who you won’t remember at all), as well as loads of controllable dinosaurs, drivable vehicles and a multitude of colourful collectibles.

"In many ways, LEGO Jurassic World feels much more coherent than many of the previous LEGO titles, with memorable moments from the films nicely recreated in block form."

There are puzzles aplenty but little that will tax even younger gamers too much. Most involve hunting a missing lever, tracking down some food for a poorly dino or fixing a dilapidated vehicle. Admittedly, once you’ve done each of these tasks a fair few times, it does get a little samey but there’s enough of that trademark humour and plenty of standout scenes to keep interest levels high.

It’s kind of cool that the game is broken down into sections, with each film summarised over five decent-sized levels. The result is that no section feels too long or drawn out, and you get to relive the stories of Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III, and Jurassic World (so beware of spoilers when playing the latter!).

In many ways, LEGO Jurassic World feels much more coherent than many of the previous LEGO titles, with memorable moments from the films nicely recreated in block form. And it’s handled tactfully too; many of the scarier sequences from the movies (which largely result in a dinosaur eating somebody) have been treated with humour in this incarnation to make it less harrowing for a younger audience. Even the loading screens are made a little more bearable thanks to the appearance of the chirpy cartoon character Mr DNA who spouts loads of interesting dinosaur-based facts at you. Fun and educational – what more could you want?

"All the iconic scenes make an appearance, including the raptors roaming the kitchens and rushing through the tall grasses towards their prey, to escaping from the tree-hanging jeep and the T Rex flipping the car to feast on those annoying kids."

All the iconic scenes make an appearance, including the raptors roaming the kitchens and rushing through the tall grasses towards their prey, to escaping from the tree-hanging jeep and the T Rex flipping the car to feast on those annoying kids.

But for all the good bits, there are some chase sequences and QTE segments (that see you repeatedly whacking a dinosaur on the nose) – all of which feel a little peripheral, adding no value or consequence to the gameplay. They look nice, I guess, and break up the proceedings but you wouldn’t miss them if they weren’t there!

Visually, everything looks crisp and is brightly-coloured, with LEGO blocks used nicely to recreate the prehistoric world. Including voice clips from the films is a nice touch too and many of the characters and their mannerisms are perfectly captured in LEGO form.

Each of the 100 or so characters has different skills, from taking photos, fixing machinery and shooting targets to cutting through locks, screaming(!) or inspecting dinosaur droppings. As ever, switching between them is a cinch. Drop-in, drop-out co-operative gameplay is once again on offer and works very well, making this an ideal game to play with friends. Along the way you can explore, smash stuff and also access computer terminals to summon the vehicles you’ve collected or dabble with DNA and create your very own customised dinosaurs.

Unfortunately, there are numerous glitches that often see you stuck in scenery or unable to move a character, forcing a restart and meaning lost progress. It’s frustrating and a bit of a letdown.

The only other downside is that the game seems far easier than its predecessors and feels far shorter. It certainly won’t take too long to work your way through the various levels and see all there is to see – although there’s still the excuse to roam the lush lands of Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna in free play and get a little more time with a triceratops, raptor, compy, dilophosaurus and a tyrannosaurus rex. As ever, the compulsion to collect all those glittering nuggets dotted about every level, along with the amber, characters, cars and dinos proves strangely addictive. Overall, another winning LEGO title!

The latest UK game sales are in, courtesy of Gfk Chart-Track and TT Games’ LEGO Jurassic World finds itself in the number one spot. That’s likely a result of the recent film which grossed more than $1 billion at the box office, setting new records in the process.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited fell to second place following its debut several weeks on Xbox One and PS4, while The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt maintained its place at third. Grand Theft Auto 5 is in fourth place followed by FIFA 15. Payday 2: Crimewave Edition debuted in fourth place but is now in sixth place. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is in seventh followed by Splatoon, Destiny and Minecraft: Xbox Edition.

This week should be interesting because Batman: Arkham Knight debuts. Given the delays and hype surrounding it, it’s pretty much a given that it will unseat LEGO Jurassic World from the top spot. Stay tuned for more information though.

Bethesda's MMO sells 100,000 units in its first week.

CD Projekt RED has had an incredible run with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt since its launch in May but it’s recently been shoved off the top-selling spot in the UK game charts courtesy of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. This is according to the latest information courtesy of Gfk Chart-Track.

It’s interesting when you consider the critical reception the game received when it first launched, but The Elder Scrolls Online has become the third game this year to break 100,000 units sold in its first week alongside Battlefield: Hardline and The Witcher 3. LEGO Jurassic World is in second place, seeing a strong debut after the launch of the recent Jurassic World film while The Witcher 3 is in third place.

Another new entry for fourth place is Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, a port of the original game for the Xbox One and PS4. This was followed by Grand Theft Auto 5, FIFA 15, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Splatoon, Battlefield Hardline and Farming Simulator 15.
