This May, we will get a chance to revisit the first Xenoblade Chronicles with the Definitive Edition release on the Switch. The game ended up being an unexpected launch pad for the RPG franchise, despite almost never leaving Japanese shores with its original Wii release. This edition will feature redone graphics, music and a new epilogue. However, despite having ‘definitive’ in the name, it actually be missing some minor features.

Before this remaster, there was another major re-release of the title on the New Nintendo 3DS. That game actually managed to shrink the open world RPG onto Nintendo’s previous handheld and had a few excluisve features. You could get tokens, via both doing in-game achievements as well as scanning amiibos, that allowed you to get 3D models to examine as well as sound tests. As spotted and translated by Twitter user Luxin (which you can see below) tucked away on the Japanese site, it’s confirmed those features will not be in the Switch release. While they are by no means major additions, it is a bit odd.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition will release only on Nintendo Switch May 29th.

Yes, an actual sequel to the Wii original.

Nintendo and Monolith Soft confirmed that Xenoblade 2 will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Yes, Xenoblade 2– as in an actual, full fledged sequel to the original Xenoblade Chronicles. None of the spiritual successor that was Xenoblade Chronicles X– this is a full fledged sequel to the Wii classic.

The game looked to be in an early stage of development, though the gorgeous art style and world design of the original game were on stark display in this trailer. For many, the prospect of a return to Xenoblade‘s style, over the more meandering, open ended stye of Xenoblade X, that entirely de-emphasized storytelling and narrative, two things that the original game was so well known for.

Xenoblade 2 will be available only on Nintendo Switch. We will have more information for you from the Switch event as it comes. Stay tuned.
