Gearbox's Randy Pitchford didn't confirm whether the Switch 2 version of its looter shooter would launch alongside other platforms.

Various third-party publishers unveiled their titles for the Nintendo Switch 2, including 2K, with Gearbox president Randy Pitchford confirming Borderlands 4 for the platform.

It’s out later this year, and with a dedicated State of Play this Spring, we’ll likely learn more about its gameplay changes and additions. Other noteworthy titles from the publishing label include Visual Concepts’ WWE 2K and NBA 2K, though it didn’t confirm whether these are the latest entries.

This seemingly implies that the next iterations for both franchises are bound for the Switch 2, which makes sense for NBA 2K since its sequel has yet to be announced. However, with WWE 2K25 recently released, it would likely have to wait until next year to reveal the sequel.

Time will tell, so stay tuned for updates. Borderlands 4 is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC on September 23rd with a Switch 2 release date yet to be confirmed. Check out the latest trailer highlighting all the new Vault Hunters. You can also learn more about its dynamic world and seamless travel between zones.

The developer has been hit with a second round of layoffs in the space of a few months, and has let go an undisclosed number of employees at its Austin studio.

2K-owned studio Visual Concepts has joined the increasing list of companies in the games industry that have been hit with layoffs. As caught by Game Developer, the NBA 2K developer has laid off an unknown number of staff at its Austin studio, as confirmed on LinkedIn by two former employees who were impacted by the layoffs.

Former art director Brad Bowling wrote, “The games industry bloodletting continues. Today Visual Concepts Austin laid off myself and a group of very talented developers. I have had a great time over the past couple of years working with some of the finest Game Devs in the industry. Over the past 23 years of making game art, I have seen some downturns but nothing like this.”

Former associate software engineer Sydney F wrote, “After a great year of working at Visual Concepts Austin it’s sad to say I’ve been laid off as of today along with several other amazing colleagues. I will miss all of those that I worked with greatly.”

Prior to its acquisition by 2K, Visual Concepts Austin, then known as HookBang, routinely provided development support on Visual Concepts’ NBA 2K titles. Following its acquisition and subsequent rebranding, the developer continued to perform that role.

The list of developers, publishers, and companies in the industry that have laid off members of their staff (to varying degrees) is already an excruciatingly long one, just a little over a month into 2024. It includes the likes of Microsoft, Riot Games, Sega, Unity, Lost Boys Interactive, Black Forest Games, People Can Fly, CI Games, Behaviour Interactive, and Thunderful Group, among others.

Sony apparently looking to buy them in a “mostly cash” deal, which seems very unlikely.

You know how Microsoft has been going around acquiring a whole bunch of major developers to try and bolster their first party, which has fallen immensely behind relative to Sony and Nintendo? Well, it looks like Sony may be gearing up to do something to regain their lead—if this newest rumor, which should be taken with a huge grain of salt, is to be believed.

Joel Kulina, head of technology and media trading at Wedbush Securities, has reported (via MarketWatch) that Sony is currently in high level discussions to acquire Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar and 2K Games—the publishers of titles such as Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto, Civilization, XCOM, and NBA 2K. The deal is apparently going to be “mostly cash”, which sounds a bit absurd, because attempting to purchase a company valued as high as Take-Two in mostly cash would deplete a massive portion of Sony Corp.’s (not PlayStation, all of Sony’s) cash reserves in one fell swoop—but maybe Sony feels that’s worth the risk of having Grand Theft Auto be exclusive to their machine.

To me, this sounds extremely unlikely, especially given Take-Two’s previous assertions that they want to be everywhere where there are customers—which going exclusive to just one console would go against. Unless Sony were to allow Take-Two games on all platforms, in which case… what’s the point? Revenue, I assume.

For now, this is a rumor, and treat it as such. But hey, things are getting interesting regardless.

Well, that’s one hell of a lawsuit. Polygon and GI.biz are reporting that a Texas-based company called Virtual Gaming Technologies, LLC recently filed lawsuits against Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, Take-Two, Zynga, and Konami. Jeez guys, you sure you didn’t leave out a few companies there?

The lawsuit claims that these companies are infringing on a pair of patents held by William Junkin, the chairman and CEO of FantasySports.com– which is a patent held for interactive games or game modes based on events happening in real time, such as fantasy football teams. Fans of these companies’ games will probably recognize that titles such as NBA 2K, FIFA, Madden, and PES have all moved towards evolving to a service based platform in the recent past, with the games reflecting real life player transfers, roster changes, and other developments.

Suspiciously enough, Virtual Gaming Technologies seems to be fairly new as a company, having formed in Texas in late September. It’s filed no fewer than 16 lawsuits in US District Courts, GI.biz reports.

Basically, we’re looking at patent trolls here, and hopefully, this case will be dismissed by the courts as it deserves to be.

Normally, I’m screaming “Get Hyped”, but when the commentator calls someone “The Wild Thang”, I lose all semblance of genuine interest. So here for you today, we have a video straight from the NBA 2K15 folks showing you just what next years player introductions will look like.

Players take to the court with some slightly janky animations, not particularly bad but despite the fact that they players are slapping hands, and all that good stuff, it just looks super light and not very realistic at all. But commentating is solid and as long as it’s accurate and has enough variety to not loop too often, it should hold up over a decent period of time.

And though it’s not the point of the video, that court looks pretty sick. Especially those slight reflections. Quite nice indeed!

If you’re expecting something really impressive and cool, find a different video. I suggest something from [insert the name of a content creator that you enjoy here]

Everything you need to know about NBA 2K15.

NBA 2K15 is an upcoming simulation Basketball sport video game that is currently in development by Visual Concepts, the California based 2K subsidiary is primarily responsible for handling 2K Sports line of video games. Set to be published by 2K, NBA 2K15 is set to be the sixteenth game in the series; it will be made available across both current and last generation consoles.

The game will be available on box 360, PlayStation 3, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows when it launches on the October 7th of 2014

+ Quick Jump To

1. Development

2. Gameplay

3. Teams

Development

Similar to all the previous NBA 2K games, the game will take a more simulation video game approach rather than an arcade styled experience.

Similar to its predecessor, NBA 2K14, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One builds of the game will be running on the Eco-Motion video game engine. This engine focuses on bringing a sense of realism and life to the game, as the developers put it, “really bring players to life in a way that we’ve never done before — to make the game look smarter, feel better, react in a more realistic fashion than it ever has.”

The “Eco” portion of Eco-Engine references the new life breathed into characters by the game, they’ve said that the goal is “making sure that these guys think, that they behave, that they act like they do in real life.”

While not solely responsible for the creation of the games music, the popular music icon Pharrell Williams has “curated” the games soundtrack.

Following a common tradition and trend in sports video games, NBA 2K15 will feature a prominent sportsman from the most recent seasons on the cover of the game. It was announced on May 6th of 2014 Kevin Durant (NBA’s most valuable player of the 2013/2014 season) would be taking centre stage on the case. Box art was officially released on July 15th of 2014.

There is a PC build of the game in development that will be made available on Microsoft Windows, but at this time we don’t know specifically which build of the game will be brought to gamers. It’s either going to be a port of the 7th generation (PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) build or a port of the more advanced 8th generation (Xbox One and PlayStation 4) build of the game.

Gameplay

Thus far, it would appear that gameplay remains largely unchanged in NBA 2K15. It’s most likely that any changes to the game will come in the form of tweaks to the gameplay rather than actual mechanic overhauls.

Teams

At this time, a team listing hasn’t been revealed. What we do know is that NBA 2K15 will feature 25 Euroleague basketball teams. This is expanding on the NBA 2K14 Euroleague roster which numbered only 14 teams.

Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game.
