Netmarble Neo's action RPG is a shoddy adaptation of the beloved manhwa and a terrible, repetitive experience otherwise.

While perusing the “Mostly Positive” rating that Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive currently has on Steam, a common theme, especially in the positive reviews, is how it could be improved. If only there were an offline mode, rather than serving as a half-baked always-online title with co-op. If only it had a better weapon upgrade system. If only there was party chat, free exploration, less lagging and stuttering, more organic ways to bond with its cast and so on.

Sadly, it doesn’t have all that. And as you’ve probably guessed already, it’s just not very good in general.

Netmarble Neo said Overdrive is separate from Solo Leveling: Arise. They’re correct: That one is free-to-play and launched in such a predatory fashion that it made hoYoVerse look like saints. This one costs $40, which might as well be a king’s ransom for what’s on offer. However, they’re otherwise the same game. The same combat, the same presentation issues, the same characters – it even has the same Destiny-style hub.

Yes, there are some differences in how certain sequences are seen in the opening (hilariously, one fight is now a simple cutscene). But if you didn’t like Arise, you probably won’t like this.

"Other times, you’ll have to control those same companions, with Jinwoo nowhere to be seen, and things take a turn for the clunky. Don’t want to? Too bad, but at least those Encore missions are few and far between. Once you’ve completed enough repetitive side missions, you can progress through the main story."

Solo Leveling follows Sung Jinwoo, the weakest Hunter in a world where Gates to other realms pop up and require slaying fantasy creatures. Sometimes, they’ll lead to a Dungeon, or even a Dungeon within a Dungeon, which can be bad news if you go in unprepared…which is exactly what happens to Jinwoo (not for any fault of his own, mind you). Left for dead, he gets a new lease on life by the System and begins augmenting his strength.

Why him? What is his purpose? How did he gain a mad eight-pack so quickly? Having read the entire manhwa, I can’t answer all of these questions without delving into spoilers, but Arise Overdrive does a passable job adapting the script, even blatantly inserting panels from the manhwa to advance the story.

But following its pacing? Not quite. After the eight-pack reveal, suddenly, you choose a skill tree for Jinwoo, who then joins the Hunter’s Association for his own wicked control room to partake in missions, complete with characters mindlessly walking around, a blacksmith to craft things, and strike teams to send on missions.

I’m sorry, do you not remember that part of the manhwa? Well, you shouldn’t. You’re not exploring the world, as it were, but simply travelling to isolated instances which barely qualify as “missions.” It’s not like other games haven’t had the same approach throughout history. But when the original Arise launched, most of its contemporaries had begun moving past it. It was the worst kind of throwback more than a year ago, and it hasn’t changed one bit.

Some of these missions will be small Gates with enemies and a boss to clear out. Others will be Dungeon Breaks with…enemies and a boss to defeat. First-time rewards, options to increase the level of each mission – which confers better rewards but also takes forever if you’re nowhere near the required level – and the option to tackle everything in co-op await. You can go solo in most missions, taking companions who provide support abilities but also sometimes fight alongside you.

Other times, you’ll have to control those same companions, with Jinwoo nowhere to be seen, and things take a turn for the clunky. Don’t want to? Too bad, but at least those Encore missions are few and far between. Once you’ve completed enough repetitive side missions, you can progress through the main story.

"But when you first try out the combat system, one thing is going to stick with you for hours and hours. When using a weapon, unleash the abilities equipped in that slot, and then the weapon ability, then swap to the other. Repeat."

For all its criticisms, Solo Leveling has excellent pacing and top-notch presentation. It gets to the fights that matter most, and they look great. Translating that can be challenging, so Netmarble Neo took the easy way out: Stretching levels past the point of credulity or enjoyment.

You’ll fight the same waves of enemies and mini-bosses, again and again, in the same corridor-like levels. Story missions tend to link several such stages together, which can sometimes result in fighting the same boss types multiple times in a row. One mission, I kid you not, involved slaying the same Goblin mage mini-boss five times. Even Booker T. would call it quits by that point.

If you happen to die at any point in that particular stage, have fun replaying it from the beginning. At least you still retain any levels gained, but the sheer tedium of going through the same encounters, whether it’s on Normal or Hard difficulty, is simply mind-numbing.

Now, you’ve probably seen enough of the combat by now to think that there’s something there, right? Sort of, but there are caveats galore.

Once you get over the fact that Jinwoo can use guns, katanas, halberds, bows and crossbows, you’ll notice that the overall movement feels good. Dodging is responsive, and the parrying, despite the overtly generous window, is on point. Several of the attacks have neat animations and effects, from the “We’re not calling it Judgment Cut, but it is 100 percent Judgment Cut” to gathering enemies together and then detonating the area. Some neat elemental effects can trigger, and even though I didn’t get into the nitty-gritty of what they all did, watching Scorch or Freeze become amplified while a target was also afflicted with Nightmare felt pretty cool.

But when you first try out the combat system, one thing is going to stick with you for hours and hours. When using a weapon, unleash the abilities equipped in that slot, and then the weapon ability, then swap to the other. Repeat. Over and over, and over and over, until you’re begging, pleading for something different (which is usually when you throw in a QTE attack or decide to unleash your Ultimate).

"As cool as Overdrive abilities and the Ultimate look, I might as well be tickling a boss if they’re even one level higher, despite leveraging damage bonuses from back attacks and whatnot. It’s a good thing almost all of them apply damage-over-time effects that take forever to go away and can stack multiple times."

Boss fights, both big and small, are very rarely the exception to that rule. Being able to unleash a powerful kick to temporarily stun a foe (which is different from the Crash effect) is neat. Mashing Shift to unleash it? Less intuitive. Otherwise, aside from several bosses constantly being recycled, they have such an annoying amount of health that you’re endlessly swiping your weapon and swapping between abilities.

As cool as Overdrive abilities and the Ultimate look, I might as well be tickling a boss if they’re even one level higher, despite leveraging damage bonuses from back attacks and whatnot. It’s a good thing almost all of them apply damage-over-time effects that take forever to go away and can stack multiple times.

If all that sounds like a dull time, well, too bad – you’re going to be doing a lot of it. That’s because the weapon crafting system takes a page out of Monster Hunter. Each weapon “type” has multiple options, and upon crafting the base type, you can upgrade it further into stronger versions. Sometimes you’ll branch off and make something different, and the whole idea is to refight certain foes for parts. Except the drop rates are somehow even more horrendous than Monster Hunter.

By the way, there’s almost no point to crafting unless you’re in the late or end-game. Loot drops, pitifully at that, from completing missions and follows the Destiny rule of higher rarities and tiers, which will most often be better than what you currently have from a stats point of view. The result is that you’ll pretty much equip whatever and then discard it just as regularly. As a result, you’ll probably replay missions or engage with the boring side content to raise your level. Yay.

The need to level your companions and craft separate weapons for them, which have their own upgrade trees (and of course, your resources are limited). The game “loading” every time I speak to someone to gain Hunter Coins. The input lag in the menus and the overall awful UI design. The rendering distance, which causes anything beyond 20 meters or so to become blurry. The frame rate dropping massively in certain environments with any foliage. Everything on Jinwoo’s model, except for his head and weapons, disappearing during his Ultimate in one of the more bizarre bugs.

"Regardless of whether you enjoy the flashy combat or witnessing certain scenes fully animated, Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive is just too repetitive, soulless and grindy to really warrant much of your appreciation. Go re-read the manhwa or rewatch the anime rather than wasting your time on this mess."

The camera freaking out while fighting those Shadow Trials Mages, to the point where I didn’t lock on to avoid hurling mid-fight. The targeting in general which can make running away from an enemy’s AoE difficult. The game suddenly giving me dozens and dozens of the same Halberd as a quest reward, because imagine if those were all different weapons and gear instead of the same damn Halberd? Negative points to whoever decided the scrolling should be more like a touchscreen rather than simply using the mouse wheel. I also do not appreciate how low-quality some of the cutscenes look, but is that worse than the real-time scenes that stutter? Hard to say. At least you can pause during the action, something which I wouldn’t have thought to appreciate until Black Ops 7.

We could argue about cliches all day, but with each manhwa chapter, I wanted to know what Jinwoo would discover and face off against next. With Arise Overdrive, I dread each new connecting portal. My knowledge of the story is effectively a curse, since I know a mission won’t end until after defeating a specific boss, and it could stretch as long as possible before that happens.

Even worse is the fact that it takes massive creative liberties with the source material for no positive gain. The lead-up to the fight against Igris, for example, feels like just another trawl through some enemies rather than a battle of attrition. Despite Arise Overdrive prominently featuring panels about how Jinwoo can’t heal and that potions do nothing, they work just fine. Scavenging equipment from slain enemies to stand a better chance? That’s now just a cosmetic formality – like you’re acting out a sequence rather than actually being part of the story. Don’t even get me started on how you don’t even control some of the coolest moments, with the game simply defaulting to the manhwa.

Regardless of whether you enjoy the flashy combat or witnessing certain scenes fully animated, Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive is just too repetitive, soulless and grindy to really warrant much of your appreciation.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is out now on PC and smartphones. But how well does the free-to-play title actually play?

George R. R. Martin’s seminal fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, and subsequently its TV adaptation, HBO’s Game of Thrones, has always felt like a gaming franchise just waiting to happen. While we’ve had a few attempts at the IP in the gaming scene, notably with Telltale’s Game of Thrones series, these projects haven’t quite seen the level of success you would expect from such an otherwise gigantic franchise. Netmarble is the latest studio to attempt an adaptation with its own version – Game of Thrones Kingsroad. Ultimately, however, it turns out that the attempt has led to some mixed results.

"As for the combat itself, you get a simplistic combo system with your melee weapons depending on your combination of light and heavy attacks."

Let’s get the basics out of the way. Game of Thrones Kingsroad is an action RPG that features a somewhat open world that slowly unlocks as you gradually progress through its main storyline. The central story revolves around the player character – a child of House Tyre – tasked with two key quests: rallying support for the Night’s Watch to tackle the growing threat of the White Walkers, and getting a letter to King’s Landing that officially marks the protagonist as an heir to House Tyre.

Fans of the show or books will recognise the time period of the game as well after the events of the Red Wedding. Most of the Northern parts of Westeros are essentially under the control of House Bolton – a family so cheerful and happy, their sigil is an upside down flayed man. Since the North’s war for independence was only recently brought to an abrupt end with the events of the Red Wedding (the assassination of most of House Stark), the countryside is still in ruins. Farmers are peasants are still harassed on a regular basis by bandits and corrupt soldiers trying to extort them for money. Through all this, as the protagonist, you have to end up dealing with House Bolton patriarch Roose bolton quite often.

"Fans of the show or books will recognize the time period of the game as well after the events of the Red Wedding."

Generally speaking, the story of Game of Thrones Kingsroad – while initially fascinating – does end up feeling like a futile endeavour, since we know how the story ends courtesy of HBO’s TV adaptation, we know for a fact that House Tyre – a house created specifically for the game – will ultimately be of no real importance. We even know for a fact that the White Walkers will continue to be ignored by just about every major House south of the Wall until Daenerys Targaryen will make landfall on Westeros. Ultimately, the whole story ends up feeling like there aren’t any real stakes at all.

As for gameplay, tying up a grand and epic fantasy story that was considered compelling specifically because of its various characters and their political machinations with action RPG combat feels like a bit of a misstep. Game of Thrones has always been considered a low fantasy setting, which means that magical elements and fantastical creatures are such a rare sight that most people living in the world would have never even heard of them. As such, the action combat you frequently engage in will only really be against human enemies, which starts feeling dull and repetitive after your first few fights. It is worth noting that there are a few more fantasy-styled enemies to fight in the game, but aside from large wolves, these are mostly relegated to being multiplayer-only boss fights.

As for the combat itself, you get a simplistic combo system with your melee weapons depending on your combination of light and heavy attacks. A bow can also be used to initiate fights. However, due to its cumbersome nature, ranged attacks often feel useless after firing a couple of shots to start fights, since you’ll quickly get swarmed by enemies in melee range. Generally speaking, fights are incredibly simplistic. You’re going to spam your preferred combos, occasionally dodging or blocking an enemy’s attack, and sometimes even using a few special abilities – which are essentially just fancier looking combos in most cases.

"You get a simplistic combo system with your melee weapons depending on your combination of light and heavy attacks."

There’s no real challenge in the second-to-second gameplay of Game of Thrones Kingsroad. Rather, the difficulty – when it’s present – tends to come from the progression system and your gear. Being under-geared for combat feels quite rough; enemies take longer to kill and they’ll hit you for much bigger chunks of your health bar. This can be alleviated by partaking in the several forms of progression that the title has to offer. These progression systems include a passive skill tree, another skill tree that lets you boost the damage of specific combos and abilities, a progression system for your gear that involves getting your hands on crafting materials, another one that involves leveling up various House Sigils, and a “research” system that involves your character figuring out how they can get extra bonuses from things they already have. Aside from being too numerous, these progression systems come with their own set of problems.

The two systems for skill progression are simple enough; you get your hands on upgrade books from finishing quests and exploring the world, which can then be spent on various nodes on these trees. These nodes range from offering flat damage boosts and improving your Rage generation, for example, to letting you pick out specific combos that will then start doing more damage. Just about every other progression system will involve quite a bit of grinding, waiting, and if Netmarble is lucky, you pulling out your credit card to pay real money.

Things like this start making it feel very obvious that Game of Thrones Kingsroad was designed with mobile as its priority platform. Along with the insane progression systems, nearly every UI and UX element seems tailored for touch screens in mind, with giant buttons and constant exclamation marks to bring your attention to various notifications that keep popping up during the course of regular play.

Thankfully, once you’re in game, the UX issues don’t really persist. However, other problems gradually become more noticeable. One of the biggest problems I had in my time with it was that the game was seemingly incapable of just shutting up and letting me play. Any time I completed a quest or explored the world to find a new area, I was bombarded with notifications that would try to reward me for my seemingly Herculean tasks.

"Familiar faces like Jon Snow or Roose and Ramsay Bolton appear in-game are also quite well-modelled"

Just killed a few bandits? Here are three separate windows, each offering rewards ranging from currency to RP points. Took down a boss in a group? Here are the rewards from that boss, plus rewards from your Battle Pass progression, PLUS rewards from the daily goal of killing a boss, among other things. This game definitely called to mind my experiences with other modern smartphone titles with action RPG gameplay like Blizzard’s Diablo Immortal, and definitely feels like a result of Netmarble focusing more on “player engagement” statistics than actually creating a fun, worthwhile experience.

In a game filled with all of these annoyances, even the way its inventory system works tends to just pile on to the list of grievances I have with Game of Thrones Kingsroad. While most items are split between your basic bags and your equipment bags, both of them feel absurdly small, and you’ll quickly run out of space after spending just 15 minutes in the wilds. Selling off excess items is also a pain; rather than having a system where you can mark items that you want to sell off, you instead have to sell off each piece of bad gear that you have no intention of wearing individually.

As for visuals, Game of Thrones Kingsroad definitely made some sacrifices to be playable on smartphones. On the PC version, the cutscenes are at a much higher level of quality than regular gameplay. And the visuals in the course of actually playing the title feel like nothing particularly noteworthy. The mountains and plains that dominate most of the game’s depiction of Westeros can start feeling quite dull, and aside from checking the map, figuring out just where you are in the world is a challenge since everything ends up looking the same. This, of course, is aside from the few major landmarks that the title adopted from the HBO show’s depiction, such as the massive Wall in the North, and the awesome-looking castle at Winterfell. Familiar faces like Jon Snow or Roose and Ramsay Bolton appear in-game, are also quite well-modelled, looking incredibly alike with the real-world actors that played these characters.

"Essentially, every time you take on a major boss, you can spend RP to get its rewards. You can run out of RP quite quickly."

On the audio side of things, the game is filled to the brim with either generic orchestral pieces that are quite easily forgettable, or variations on the incredibly-popular HBO adaptation’s theme song. Speaking of which, you better get used to hearing that theme song quite often, since it’s used in a lot of places. A short riff from it even plays when you level up. The voice acting, on the other hand, feels competently done. While Netmarble wasn’t able to get the original actors to reprise their roles for the title, the new voice actors do an admirable job of sounding just like they did in the HBO show. Random quest givers and original NPCs also have voice acting that feels believable for the overall setting.

Generally speaking, Game of Thrones Kingsroad is not a fun game. It is filled to the brim with monetisation systems and roadblocks in progression that eventually forces a choice: wait for pay up. A key example of this is the RP system, which is the main way of getting rewards from multiplayer activities. Essentially, every time you take on a major boss, you can spend RP to get its rewards. You can run out of RP quite quickly, and while the resource does regenerate over time, you can also buy some more RP.

Combine all of the monetisation, the bad UI, the tedious progression systems, and the pointless story with gameplay that devolves into essentially just mindless button mashing through the same uninspired enemies and you get a title that shamelessly chases the success of better games in the market, but with little in the way of redeeming qualities.

The free-to-play action RPG is currently available in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and the Middle East. Asia will get it later.

Netmarble has announced that action RPG Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is out now on PC (via Steam, Microsoft Store and Epic Games Store), iOS and Android. The title is currently available in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and the Middle East. The company has stated that a release date for Asia will be revealed later this year. In the meantime, check out the launch trailer below.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad puts players in the shoes of a brand new character to the franchise. Strange events happen, however, which end up with the player character becoming an heir to a small Northern noble house – House Tyre. The player can choose from one of three roles: Knight, Sellsword and Assassin. Throughout the game, players will be faced with numerous combat challenges that will require them to understand their class abilities in order to take them on in real-time action combat.

The title, based on HBO’s Game of Thrones, which in turn is based on George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series of books, tells an original story that also involves characters from the source material. The looks of these characters have been based on the actors that took on these characters’ roles in HBO’s TV adaptation. Among the notable cameos in the game is the dragon Drogon, who can be taken on as a Field Boss.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad’s release builds on what the studio learned from its short time spent in Early Access on Steam. Now that it is fully out, players can explore the world beyond the two chapters that were available during the Early Access period, including new zones like Storm’s End and Felwood, which have been brought to the game with with the Chapter 3 update accompanying the game’s launch.

Over time, more content will be added to Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, which will bring even more zones from the books and TV series, allowing players to ultimately fully explore the continent of Westeros.

Alongside the launch of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, Netmarble has also issued a notice that players who had not purchased the Founder’s Pack DLC for the game, which was available during its Early Access period, might be seeing it show up in their in-game mailbox. The studio has noted that players who did not buy the Founder’s Pack will see it removed from their mailbox soon.

Back in April, game director Hyunil Jang had spoken about future plans for the game, including updates that were being made to the title for better player engagement leading up to its launch. Speaking about how the game’s story will start evolving moving forward, Jang said that there will be darker chapters as well.

“The narrative for this next chapter will be slightly darker as well,” he said. “We’ll dive a little more into the aspects of religion and what it would mean to a medieval society like that of Westeros to have their king suddenly declare that all the people under his rule are now obliged to change their faith to that of a god whose name they can’t even pronounce.”

Game director Hyunil Jang also revealed some of the studio's plans for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad in terms of future updates.

A little over a month after the Early Access launch of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, developer Netmarble has announced that the game will be getting its full release on May 21. The announcement was made with a trailer, which you can check out below. Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will be a free-to-play game on PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store), Android, and iOS.

As part of the announcement, game director Hyunil Jang spoke about future plans for the title in a letter to the community. In the post, as caught by WCCFTech, Jang spoke about various features of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, including the fact that field bosses will be getting matchmaking that allows up to 12 players to team up together. As part of the change, field bosses will also spawn less often.

“During the early access period, we had them spawn frequently so that many players could take part,” said Jang. “However, we noticed that because they appeared so often, players were more spread out and it actually made it harder for groups to come together and enjoy the content fully. To improve this, we’re planning to reduce the number of times Drogon appears each day.”

“We understand this will lower the number of attempts players can make, but we believe it’s more important to create an environment where people can enjoy the content together.”

Jang also spoke about plans to improve on the game’s RP system, which stems from players criticising the shortage of the resource. Feedback has also revealed to the studio that players don’t find much to do once RP runs out. To address this, the studio plans to add more content to the game, including exploration challenges and co-op content, that won’t require the use of RP.

“The original intent of the RP system was to help manage fatigue and ensure players could still earn meaningful rewards even with limited play time,” said Jang. “However, many of you shared that the current RP supply felt too low, which made the overall experience less satisfying. We completely understand this concern, and the team is actively discussing balance adjustments to increase the daily amount of RP provided.”

“Another point we heard was that there isn’t too much to do once RP runs out. Right now, players can still take part in content like field bosses or explore Westeros after using up their RP, but we agree there’s room to offer more. We’re working on adding new types of content, including exploration challenges and co-op content, to keep things engaging even beyond RP.”

While Game of Thrones: Kingsroad currently only has some parts of the setting of A Song of Ice and Fire and HBO’s Game of Thrones for players to explore, the ultimate goal of the studio is to have the entirety of Westeros to the game. The next major update planned in this regard will focus on bringing the Stormlands to the game.

“The narrative for this next chapter will be slightly darker as well,” he said. “We’ll dive a little more into the aspects of religion and what it would mean to a medieval society like that of Westeros to have
their king suddenly declare that all the people under his rule are now obliged to change their faith to that of a god whose name they can’t even pronounce.”

The Early Access release of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will only be available to players that pick up one of the founder's packs.

Developer Netmarble Neo has announced that Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will be released as an Early Access title on PC (via Steam) on March 26. The announcement comes shortly after a demo for the title was released during the previous Steam Next Fest.

The Early Access version of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will only be available for those that buy one of the three Founder’s Packs available through the game’s Steam page. The Founder’s Packs are available in three flavours: Standard Pack, Deluxe Pack, and Ultimate Pack.

The Standard Pack just gets you access to the game, along with 350 Iron Banks Marks, the Northern Outfit, and the Jon Snow Emoji Pack.

The Deluxe Pack comes with a host of in-game goodies, including the premium battle pass, the Northern Outfit, the Wandering Crow Outfit, the Darkcloud mount, 50,000 Copper, 750 Iron Bank Marks, the Jon Snow Emoji Pack, the Ghost Nameplate Background, and the Harbginer Nameplate Frame.

The Ultimate Pack comes with the same things as the Deluxe Pack, along with more goodies. This includes the White Fang mount, the Premium+ version of the battle pass, the Brotherhood Without Banners saddle for a Direwolf, the Brotherhood Without Banners reins and saddle for a horse, the Iron Throne Nameplate Background, the Conqueror Nameplate Frame, 20,000 Copper, and 2,000 Iron Bank Marks.

“The wait is nearly over — Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is launching into Early Access on Steam,” wrote the studio in its announcement. “Steel yourselves for the journey ahead, and prepare to carve your path through the Seven Kingdoms.”

The Early Access release of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will include major cities like King’s Landing, Highgarden and Winterfell, along with 50 chapters of the main story, and several side-missions and co-op dungeons. The game will also feature endgame PvE challenges. After its Early Access launch, the game will eventually get more zones added to it, including Storm’s End and Felwood.

The PC hardware requirements for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad were revealed alongside the title’s demo being released back in February. At minimum, players will need either an Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-8350 CPU, 16 GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB of VRAM. The studio recommends players to have PCs running on either an Intel Core i7-9700 or AMD Ryzen 5 5500 CPU, 32 GB of RAM, and either an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 with 8 GB of VRAM or an AMD Radeon RTX 5700 XT.

While taking place in the same setting as HBO’s TV series (based on book series A Song of Ice and Fire), Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will feature an original story that revolves around the player taking on the role of an illegitimate child from a small noble Northern house, House Tyre. As part of the main storyline, players will travel all over the seven kingdoms while also helping out the Night’s Watch and solidifying their own political positions.

The title features a real-time combat system with full manual control over defensive options like blocking, dodging, and parrying. The game’s combat is described by the developers as “emphasizing impactful and exhilarating swordfights.” Players will also be able to further customise their playing style by picking the right class for their character.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad also features co-op content, where players can team up to take on extraordinary challenges together for greater rewards. For more details about the game, check out the original announcement.

The demo for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad also features in-game events that will reward players for logging in on consecutive days.

Netmarble’s upcoming RPG based on TV show Game of Thrones, titled Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, now has a demo that can be played on PC. The demo, available during the ongoing Steam Next Fest, allows players to play around with the early parts of the game.

While the exact amount of content in the demo hasn’t yet been confirmed, its description indicates that players will get to explore some of the northern parts of the continent of Westeros. This includes iconic places from the TV show and the A Song of Ice and Fire books like The Wall and Winterfell. Along with the demo, Netmarble has also requested players to submit feedback about the game with a survey.

The studio has also revealed the PC specifications required to play the Game of Thrones: Kingsroad demo. The minimum specs required to run the game are either an Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-8350 CPU, 16 GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB of VRAM.

The FAQ for the demo’s release also indicates that players will need a constant Internet connection to be able to play the game. While an in-game account will be required to play, the studio has confirmed that players can use the same account to play Game of Thrones: Kingsroad once it’s officially out.

During the demo period, Netmarble has also kicked off a host of in-game events that players can participate in. Among some of the rewards players can get during their time with the demo are various Check-In rewards that get players various in-game items for playing the title for up to 5 consecutive days.

There are also rewards that players can earn for hitting certain in-game milestones, such as clearing out all available main quests, defeating Stel, and reaching level milestones for their characters. A lot of these rewards can also be earned throughout the demo by playing regular content like clearing enemy hideouts, taking on ferocious beasts, and completing Echoes of the Past activities.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad was first shown off with a trailer back in December 2024. The trailer gave us a glimpse at what regular gameplay will look like, and notably, showed off some of its fantastic facial capture. Among the characters that will show up in the game are Jon Snow as played by Kit Harrington in the TV show, and even Jamie Lannister as played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

A trailer released last month gave us a better look at the upcoming RPG’s gameplay, showing off both combat as well as exploration and even NPC interactions. Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will feature a real-time action combat system, and players will have access to a host of different weapons. Things can get further complicated thanks to players making use of their special abilities to take down larger foes.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is coming to Android, iOS and PC in Q2 2025.

Gameplay for upcoming action adventure title Game of Thrones: Kingsroad has seemingly been leaked. The leaked footage has been credited to @invenmovie, with the build potentially originating from a limited playtest.

Among the various aspects of the game, the video showcases a character creator of some sort, as well as fully-voiced cutscenes, and some action gameplay. The trailer also gives us a look at various locations from Game of Thrones having been recreated in the game, including areas on the northern end of Westeros, and even The Wall.

The video also shows off some exploration gameplay, with the player character looking through various nooks and crannies for collectibles, as well as finding evidence to further progress in the story.

The video culminates in showcasing some combat, with the player taking on regular enemies, as well as an epic boss fight where the player teams up with a group of NPCs. The latter follows the trend of other action games, where the boss telegraphs its attacks so that the player has time to get on the defensive.

The combat itself appears low level, since the player character doesn’t have too many options in the way of combos or weaponry.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad recently got an official trailer that showed off some of its combat and exploration-based gameplay. The trailer hinted at the game having a more open world where players could take on side quests and explore the countryside for hidden treasures amongst ruins.

The trailer was a follow-up to one released back in December during The Game Awards, which gave us our first solid look at the game. Notable in that trailer was the detailed facial capture of several characters from the Game of Thrones TV show, including characters like Jon Snow and Jamie Lannister.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad doesn’t yet have a release date aside from a 2025 window, and will be coming to PC, iOS and Android. The game is currently gearing up for a closed beta test, which will take place between January 16 and January 22.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is also getting a closed beta test for players in the US, Canada, and parts of Europe, from January 16 until January 22.

Almost a month after its trailer at The Game Awards, Warner Bros. Games has released a new gameplay trailer for upcoming iOS and Android title Game of Thrones: Kingsroad. Check out the trailer below. Interestingly, aside from coming to smartphones, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will also be playable on PC through a Windows Launcher.

This time around, the trailer gives us an up close look at the hard-hitting combat and some of the exploration in Game of Thrones: Kingsroad. The video indicates that the title will feature an open world that players will be able to freely explore to some extent.

The combat itself appears to be combat-based, with different weapons available for varying up play styles. When it comes to exploration, however, there seems to be quite a bit for players to do, ranging from quests from important characters from the show, to finding and exploring ruins in search of treasure.

The trailer also gives us a look at some of the different areas players will be able to explore and fight in, from grassy fields to crumbling ruins, and even seemingly the streets of major cities.

Much like in the previous trailer, the latest one also gives us a great look at some of the great facial capture and animation of important characters.

While no solid release date has been announced for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad as of yet, the game is set for release some time this year. WB Games has also announced a closed beta test for the game for players in US, Canada, and parts of Europe. This beta test will take place on January 16, and will go on until January 22.

The Jeju Island Raid is the next major update for the free-to-play action RPG, and it's "coming soon" to iOS, Android, and PC.

Alongside a new trailer and release date for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, Netmarble revealed the next update for Solo Leveling: ARISE. Focused on the Jeju Island Arc, it sees the Ant King emerging and wreaking havoc before protagonist Sung Jinwoo can intervene.

Of course, this leads to one of the bigger standoffs in the series as the Shadow Monarch’s summons go up against the Ant King’s forces. Though a release date for the new episode hasn’t been revealed (beyond “coming soon”), the production values are some of the action RPG’s best yet. Pre-registrations are currently live, with various rewards promised. Head here for more details.

Netmarble also confirmed that the title is coming to Steam in 2025, with wishlists available now. Solo Leveling: ARISE is available for iOS, Android, and PC via a dedicated launcher. It’s based on Chugong’s web novel turned webtoon series, which garnered massive popularity over recent years. Stay tuned for more details on the Jeju Island Raid update and its release.
