The job listings also reveal that the studio is focusing on a multiplayer experience for both next-gen and current-gen consoles

Avalanche Studios, best known as the developers behind Just Cause has just posted job listings for a Technical Director and Senior Programmer for multiplayer. There has been no word out regarding what the studio is currently working on, whether it’s a sequel to the Just Cause series or their Mad Max game or even if it’s an entirely new title.

The job description contains the following lines which are of note: “This is a rare opportunity for the candidate who wants to play an instrumental and leading role in a small team developing next-generation multiplayer experience. If you are a person who likes being challenged and stimulated in an ambitious and talented environment this position will suit you perfectly. Avalanche Studios is developing for both current and next gen platforms.”

The job listing for the senior programmer also says that the studio is looking for someone to help develop their “next-generation open world/sandbox multiplayer engine”. As of now, we have no precise information regarding the release of next-generation console (PS5 and the next Xbox), but speaking to Gamingbolt, Michael Pachter had stated that the console will not be coming out anytime soon but instead that its release may be as late as 2019 or 2020.

Frank Azor says console architecture is more PC-like than ever.

Alienware co-founder Frank Azor has never been particularly shy about who he thinks really won the video game wars and how. A few years ago, the tech giant made it clear he felt PCs won the day because console architecture was moving closer and closer to basically seeming to mimic the architecture of the top gaming PCs.

Azor recently sat down with Gamespot and doubled down on those comments. He did add that PCs are changing the ways they handle video games as well, saying they are moving towards consoles, though they are still better when it comes to the tech.

“The console market and the PC market have converged in ways that we’ve never really seen before. Consoles look more like PCs, and PCs are starting to look more like consoles.”

“The console guys have realised they can’t operate on seven year cadences anymore, because they can’t keep up with the amount of innovation that’s going on in the industry, with HDR, 4K, VR, and the long path we have ahead of us in VR evolution.”

Talking about how consoles are moving towards the PC world, Azor said, “They’re having to evolve in order to survive, to be a lot more like the PC side, where they can’t come in with a $300 or $400 piece of subsidized hardware. They can maybe only afford to subsidise for $50 or $100, because the lifecycle they’re going to have to recoup that investment over the lifecycle or the customer’s journey is going to be two or three years, not the seven years they had before.”

This has led Azor to think that PC gaming has won over consoles. Thoughts? Let us know in the comments section below.

Bethesda is seeking players "of all skill levels and gaming backgrounds".

We’ve often talked about what we’d like to see in the Bethesda Softworks’ Fallout 4. Despite there being no official confirmation from the developer/publisher, we know the game exists thanks to some leaked casting call sheets. We may now be receiving the second indication that Fallout 4 exists and is currently in a playable state.

Bethesda is seeking play-testers in its Dallas/Fort Worth areas on a temporary basis. As of now, nothing in particular about Fallout 4 was mentioned by the application but it did state that Bethesda is “looking for players of all skill levels and gaming backgrounds. It is important for us to know how the game feels for everyone, so even if you are not very good at video games you can still apply.”

A Reddit user also stated that, “They are asking about experience with RPGs and FPSs,” of which Bethesda’s Fallout is both.

Again, this isn’t confirmation of any kind. It could very well be for an unannounced game we nothing about. Nonetheless, you can colour us interested. Stay tuned for more details. In the mean time check out our weekly series on Fallout 4 here.

What could the little device do this time around?

Bethesda Softworks’ still hasn’t officially revealed Fallout 4 and has made little to no indication of changing that even with E3 2014 around the corner. However, the game does exist thanks to some recent trademark filings and job ads posted by Bethesda .

So far we have seen our thought process ranging from adding new NPC companions to borrowing armor customization systems from other popular games, but one thing that we’re most interested in seeing changed is the Pipboy 3000. This served as the primary tool and interface for Fallout 3 as it dictated how you used the V.A.T.S. system and kept track of your progress. What could the Fallout 4 version possibly add? It could serve as a new means to craft items and provide notifications depending on your requirements. Perhaps it could be used to call in drones and airstrikes.

Furthermore, we can also see new features like the ability to act as a scanner, act as an audio/video speaker or even a recorder if there is a requirement. Bethesda should also provide the ability to upgrade the Pipboy by letting the player find upgrade chips. Fallout: New Vegas did featured some sort of Pipboy modification so it’s bound to be in Fallout 4. The possibilities are really limitless for Fallout 4.

But what would fit within the context of Fallout 4’s universe? We’ll have to wait to find out for sure, but let us know your thoughts on what the new Pipboy should feature.

This article is part of our weekly series on Bethesda’s next big entry into the world of Fallout. Through this series we take a look at the possible new features that Bethesda can add into Fallout 4, based on what they implemented in the previous entries and player feedback.

What kind of vile creatures would you want on your side in the sequel?

Bethesda Softworks’ Fallout 4 is seemingly heating up, with ZeniMax filing trademarks for Nuka Cola – the popular refreshment of the Fallout universe – and the previous casting call leak which revealed the game to be reportedly taking place in Boston. Until we hear an official confirmation though, we’ll keep discussing potential ideas for the game, which include what kind of NPC companions you should be able to pick up.

This includes Mutants and Deathclaws, the latter which could be trained and fight alongside you. After all, the Deathclaws are the most notorious creatures of New Vegas – why not let them fight for you in Fallout 4? Of course, there could also be robotic companions that could help you out in a pinch. Our money is on having a mutated dog with three heads a la Cerberus. Just because it would be cool.

We would also like to see a return of Goris in Fallout 4 although we are not sure what the lifespan of Deathclaws are, so the possibility of them being alive by the time Fallout 4 takes place is uncertain. Then there is the possibility of also having ghoul companions and with rumours of the game being set in Boston, there is a good chance that the companion could be an android. Or even better an ex-bounty Hunter could just be the icing on the cake.

What are your thoughts on NPC companions for Fallout 4? Let us know in the comments below.

How can Fallout 4 improve on the previous game's armour rules?

Bethesda Softworks’ Fallout 4 may or may not be showcased this year and in fact, it may be a long while before the game actually materializes. Unlike Half Life 3, we know the game exists thankfully due to a leaked casting call sheet which showed the game taking place in Boston, Massachusetts. We’ve talked about new races, items, weapons and how to change the Power Armour with the fourth game but what about armour itself?

Armour in Fallout 3 was fairly limited so why not give more slots for armour to allow one to equip different pieces for the Head, Hands, Legs, etc? Basically more on the lines of what The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim offered. It could also be changed to allow one to mix and match certain armours rather than needing to equip the full set of, say, Power Armour at any given time. Other suggestions could include specific armours having specific functions such as night vision, etc. beyond the usual stat bumps.

Of course one wouldn’t expect to always come across a full set of a particular armor build which could possibly improve and enhance exploration and its related gameplay mechanics as the player will now be searching parts of a particular armor set located in different areas. Given the rapid development of character customization in role playing games these days, we expect Bethesda to follow new trends with regards to armor options.

What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.

Miguel Oliveira also believes the console encourages "multiplayer couch gaming" experiences.

For all its quirks and humble beginnings on Kickstarter, the Android-based Ouya console hasn’t exactly been lighting the world on fire since release. Looking at the success of the Xbox One and PS4 in recent months, which have both sold millions of consoles worldwide, further validates that fact. However, Thralled developer Miguel Oliveira explained to GamingBolt that the console has a lot to offer compared to next gen platforms.

“I can note a few things. First of all, it places a devoted bet on introspective experiences that focus on serious topics with real-life implications, and that are set to explore the depths of the human condition in ways that this medium has never done before; experiences that Ouya is investing in like That Dragon, Cancer, Neverending Nightmares, and Silent Enemy, are ones that focus on vulnerability, on love, on the stuff that really makes us human.

“These experiences are bound to offer us a glimpse of the stuff that makes us what we are – This is what art is to me, and what I personally love.”

Oliveira also believes the Ouya succeeds in bringing people together, especially those for whom other consoles would be out of their price range. “Beyond that, Ouya also heavily invests in products that bring people together – ‘Multiplayer couch gaming’ experiences that encourage people to sit by each other and have a shared experience, to laugh and have fun with one another.

“There is also the obvious subject of pricing – The Ouya’s makes it accessible to all audiences. Next-gen consoles are great and I love them, but they are too expensive for some people, and I believe that this medium should be barred to no one.”

Do you agree with Miguel’s views, especially about next gen consoles being too expensive for some? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

EA will return to the big stage on June 9th for its press conference.

Electronic Arts has officially confirmed the date and time of its upcoming E3 2014 press conference. It will be taking place on June 9th at 1 PM PT. E3 2014 takes place from June 10th to 12th in Los Angeles, California.

At E3, the top press conferences are dominated by Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. Over the past few years, it’s been EA and Ubisoft that have stepped up with their individual conferences, with Nintendo now releasing an E3 edition of Direct online.

After last year’s chaos – with two next gen consoles, tons of exclusives and a heaping helping of multiplatform games across current and next gen – it’ll be interesting to see how E3 plays out this year. Expect EA to showcase the next Battlefield, any subsequent announcements regarding DLC for Titanfall, Star Wars and maybe Mirror’s Edge, if we’re lucky.

Stay tuned for more details as other publishers date their conferences in the coming weeks.

The developer's new project will apparently make you forget how good RESOGUN was.

Housemarque Games has been busy with DLC for its hit PlayStation 4 shooter RESOGUN but that’s not all – the developer has been teasing a new project on Twitter that will be far superior.

“Imagine RESOGUN, right? Now imagine it so much better that you almost forget how good the original was. That. Is. Coming.”

Naturally one would assume this is RESOGUN 2, right? However, regarding when there would be more information on RESOGUN 2, Housemarque responded, “there’s no RESOGUN 2.”

So a new IP that will be superior to RESOGUN? This seems to fit in line with earlier reports that Housemarque is working on an unannounced PS4 title along with DLC for RESOGUN. Lately, the developer has been busy bringing Dead Nation to the next gen console with the recently released Apocalypse Edition.

What are your thoughts on getting a superior title to RESOGUN? Are you hankering for a sequel all the same? Let us know below.

This week we discuss the ability to chose your own race.

Bethesda has not yet confirmed Fallout 4 but according to several reports before, we do know that it is under development. Now, it’s not coming out any time soon – much less being revealed unless the publisher decides to – but there are endless choices for what could occur. For instance, how amazing would it be to choose your own race to begin with, especially with the twisted choices the universe offers?

You could have a choice between a Human (an all-round average race), Ghoul (weak but smart and resistant to radiation), Super Mutant (stupid but strong, resistant to radiation) or even a Death Claw (strong, crazy, other Death Claws don’t attack you and actually help you out). It could also be that you chance your class throughout by fulfilling different circumstances, such as grafting Death Claw parts to yourself or even exposing yourself to radiation.

For this to be possible, each of the respective story line needs to be different. For examples, humans can start out in a vault or Fawkes and Ghouls in the underworld. This will avoid inconsistency and will make it easier at a development level but regardless it will be a difficult feature to pull off for Bethesda. But given that Fallout 4 will most likely be a PS4, Xbox One and PC exclusive, it may be possible at a technical level, given the amount of the technical prowess the new consoles bring in.

What are your thoughts on the various races that you could choose to start with in the game? Let us know in the comments below as the wait for Fallout 4 continues.

This article is part of our weekly series on Bethesda’s next big entry into the world of Fallout. Through this series we take a look at the possible new features that Bethesda can add into Fallout 4, based on what they implemented in the previous entries and player feedback.
