The Nintendo Switch OLED will be priced at $399.99, while the base model will be $339.99, and the Switch Lite will be $229.99.

Nintendo has announced that it will be raising the prices of all three variants of the Switch. In its announcement, the company has stated that the changed pricing will be coming into effect starting on August 23. As part of this change, the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch OLED, and the Nintendo Switch Lite are all getting more expensive in the US.

The company has said that these pricing changes were made only for the US, and that the decision is “based on market conditions”. While the company hasn’t outright said it, the prices going up might be related to the tariffs imposed by the US when it comes to importing goods.

As part of this change, the base model Nintendo Switch will be priced at $339.99, marking a roughly $40 increase in price. The Nintendo Switch OLED, on the other hand, is going up by around $50, its pricing now coming out to $399.99. The Nintendo Switch Lite will be priced at $229.99, its price going up by around $30.

While Nintendo has stated that the Nintendo Switch 2 is not being affected by price hikes, some of its accessories are slated to also get more expensive. Along with this, devices like the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, as well as some amiibo will be getting price hikes as well.

The announcement comes shortly after Nintendo revealed sales data for the Nintendo Switch, the Switch 2, as well as games across both consoles. The company also announced that Mario Kart World has sold more than 5.5 million copies in its first month alone.

Nintendo has also confirmed price increases for software (physical and digital), Nintendo Switch Online memberships, and more.

Before the Switch 2’s launch, Nintendo revealed price increases for its accessories in the United States and Canada due to tariffs. While it said that further increases are possible, it neglected to mention that this could also apply to the Nintendo Switch 1, at least in Canada.

Due to “market conditions,” the Nintendo Switch, OLED Model, and Nintendo Switch Lite will see pricing increases. You can also expect physical and digital titles, accessories, amiibo and Nintendo Switch Online memberships to cost more. Of course, the company clarified that the Switch 2, its software and accessories won’t see price increases (for now).

The updated prices will be revealed later today on the Nintendo Store Canada website, so stay tuned. Whether the same price increases will affect other regions worldwide has yet to be confirmed.

As for the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s available worldwide for $449.99 and CAD 629.99. Titles like Mario Kart World, which ordinarily cost $79.99, retail for CAD 109.99.

Nintendo hits a new milestone, though hardware and software sales for the nine months ending December 31st, 2024, are down year-over-year.

The Nintendo Switch has hit a new lifetime sales total with 150.86 million units sold. The company revealed in its latest financial earnings report for Q3 fiscal year 2025 that it sold 4.82 million Switch consoles.

In those three months, it sold 53.7 million units of software. For the nine months ending on December 31st, 2024, hardware sales declined by 30.6 percent year on year, hitting 9.54 million. Meanwhile, software sales were down by 24.4 percent year-on-year and reached 123.98 million.

The decline is attributed to the outstanding performance of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, both released in 2023. Nintendo hasn’t had as many big hits in 2024 comparatively, though it noted sales to be “steady” for a console that’s eight years old.

Of course, it’s the calm before the storm, especially with the Nintendo Switch 2 announced. It’s out this year with a Direct scheduled for April. Nintendo will also provide fans in select cities with the chance to go hands-on. Head here for more details.

Nintendo also sold 39.64 million units of software during those three months. Hardware sales are down 31 percent year-on-year.

In its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2025, ending September 30th, 2024, Nintendo announced that Switch lifetime sales reached 146.04 million units. During this period, it sold 2.62 million consoles, up from 143.42 million in the previous quarter.

Despite the impressive milestone, hardware sales for the fiscal year thus far are down 31 percent year-on-year. Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite sales are up 0.7 percent and 7.5 percent. However, sales of the Switch (OLED) are down 46.8 percent. Software sales during the quarter reached 39.64 million units, though the overall year-to-date figure is down 27.6 percent year-over-year.

Nintendo has adjusted its forecast for the rest of the fiscal year, expecting the Switch to sell 12.5 million units and 160 million software, a reduction of one million and five million. Of course, it still has the Nintendo Switch successor in the pipeline, with a reveal scheduled for sometime by March 31st, 2025.

While it will be "challenging," Nintendo aims to "maintain high user engagement with the hardware and invigorate the platform."

While it announced the Nintendo Switch’s successor, to be unveiled by March 31st, 2025, Nintendo isn’t giving up on the original console (which has sold 141.32 million units). It recently forecasted 13.5 million Switch consoles sold in the fiscal year 2025, alongside 165 million software sales.

In its Financial Results Explanatory Material, the company stated, “Nintendo Switch has entered its eighth year since launch, and while it will be challenging to sustain the same sales momentum as before, we will work to maintain high user engagement with the hardware and invigorate the platform so that more consumers continue to play Nintendo Switch for longer.”

If it meets the current targets, the Nintendo Switch will have sold 154.82 million units, beating the Nintendo DS and its 154.02 million lifetime sales. The latter is the second best-selling console of all time, right behind the PlayStation 2 at 160 million. Of course, how far Switch sales will fall off once its successor is available remains to be seen.

In the meantime, it will host a new Nintendo Direct in June to outline upcoming Switch titles for the latter half of 2024. There won’t be any new details for the Nintendo Switch successor, so stay tuned for updates in the months after.

The company sold 15.70 million Switch consoles in fiscal year 2024, a drop of 12.6 percent compared to the previous year.

The Nintendo Switch isn’t quite the sales juggernaut nowadays, but it’s still performing fabulously despite entering its seventh year on the market. In its latest earnings report, Nintendo revealed that the console had sold 141.32 million units worldwide as of March 31st, 2024.

In the fourth quarter, Nintendo sold 1.96 million Switch consoles and 15.70 million throughout the fiscal year, down 12.6 percent from last year. While the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model’s sales were up 1.1 percent, the regular Switch and Switch Lite are down 37.1 percent and 3.7 percent, respectively.

The company also sold 35.72 million software during the quarter, with 199.67 million sales throughout the fiscal year – a drop of 6.7 percent from the previous year. All things considered, the announcement of the Nintendo Switch’s successor, with a reveal coming by March 31st, 2025, is timely.

When it launches remains to be seen (though rumors claim next year in March), but there will be a new Nintendo Direct in June to outline upcoming software for the second half of 2024. Stay tuned for updates until then.

Nintendo's latest quarterly financials come with updated hardware and software sales figures, with the Switch hitting another major milestone.

The Nintendo Switch is undoubtedly one of the most successful consoles to launch in recent times, and judging by the quarterly financial results that Nintendo recently made public, it doesn’t seem like the console’s momentum will slow down anytime soon.

Nintendo has announced that the Switch has sold 103.54 million units worldwide as of December 31, 2021, up from 92.87 million units at the end of the previous quarter. With the second-highest sales figure for the FYQ3 period in the Switch’s lifetime, it has now outsold the Wii and become Nintendo’s highest selling home console ever (though handheld consoles Game Boy and DS have higher sales numbers). Nintendo also mentioned that the Switch’s OLED model is set off to a good start, while the existing models retained their sales momentum.

In addition, the company has also announced that net-sales and operation profits have dropped down by 6% and 9.3% year-on-year respectively. The holiday season also contributed to the numbers for both the net sales and operating profit considerably closer to the previous fiscal year’s records.

Nintendo has also revised its full-year forecast, with increases of 3.1% for sales and 7.7% for operating profit, along with the forecast for software sales increasing to 220 million for the fiscal year, which is 20 million units more than the 200 million units sold last year.

At the same time, the forecast for total Switch sales for the fiscal year (i.e. by the end of March) have been revised due to the global semiconductor shortage, with the current total of 23 million being lowered from the 24 million forecast at the end of the previous quarter (which itself had been lowered from the quarter before that).

Nintendo has also announced updated sales figures for a number of first party Switch games.
"Currently there is no sign of improvement and the situation continues to be severe so I can't say how long it will continue," says Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa.

In its recent quarterly fiscal report, Nintendo announced that though the Switch’s lifetime worldwide shipments currently stand at 92.87 million units, its sales in the first half of the current fiscal year (April-September) fell short of the company’s projections, owing to various factors, including the global semiconductor shortage.

Nintendo also revised its annual sales estimate, lowering it from 25 million to 24 million, and has now given another update on what the immediate future will look like for the console. In a recent press briefing following Nintendo’s quarterly fiscal briefing, president Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the company will be able to produce enough Switch consoles to meet the demand for the upcoming Holiday season.

“We can’t produce enough to meet the demand we are expecting during the upcoming holiday season,” Furukawa said (via Reuters). “Currently there is no sign of improvement and the situation continues to be severe so I can’t say how long it will continue.”

The fact that the global semiconductor shortage – which has impacted the supply and production lines of more than just the Switch, and beyond the gaming industry – has become abundantly apparent in recent months. The likes of AMD, Toshiba, and Foxconn have all stated that the shortage is likely to continue into 2022, while Intel recently claimed that it might even stretch into 2023.
