Nintendo Switch 2 Will Launch in March 2025, Delayed Partly to Avoid Supply Issues – Rumour

A new report has corroborated recent claims that the release of Nintendo's next-gen console has been pushed back into the first quarter of 2025.

Though it was widely believed for some time that the Nintendo Switch 2 would be releasing sometime in the second half of 2024, that’s now looking quite unlikely. Multiple recent reports have claimed that Nintendo has internally delayed the launch of its next console to the first quarter of 2025, and that’s now being corroborated by another source.

Specifically, Nikkei corroborates reports of the Switch successor’s delay, while also nailing down a narrower release timeframe, claiming that the console will release in March 2025. It’s worth keeping in mind, however, that a previous Bloomberg report claimed the console would launch in March “at the earliest”, which would suggest there’s a chance it slips further back into the year, especially given the fact that it’s already seen an internal delay.

Nikkei’s report goes on to claim that Nintendo chose to delay the console to prioritize “the lineup of leading software at the time of release” – something that previous reports have stated as well – and to “secure the initial inventory” and avoid supply shortages, with the company hoping to prevent resales of the console.

Other details that have been mentioned in prior reports are corroborated as well, like the console being another hybrid model a la the current Switch, and featuring a larger screen than its predecessor.

Recently, it was claimed that Nintendo would be announcing the Switch 2 (or whatever it ends up being called) in June, though with the company’s plans for the console still seemingly in flux, it’s safe to assume that nothing is probably set in stone yet.
