These titles, along with Craftopia and Signs of the Sojourner, go live tomorrow. Breathedge, Nuclear Throne, and The Artful Escape arrive next week.

Microsoft has announced the first wave of titles coming to Xbox Game Pass in September, starting with Craftopia, Signs of the Sojourner and Surgeon Simulator 2 tomorrow on cloud, consoles and PC. Final Fantasy 13 will also be going alive, allowing players on console and PC to experience the first chapter in Lightning’s adventure, along with turn-based rogue-lite Crown Trick.

Next week sees the release of survival title Breathedge on September 9th for all Game Pass platforms along with Nuclear Throne. Beethoven & Dinosaur’s trippy platforming adventure The Artful Escape is also launching on the same day for console and PC subscribers. Though it seems like slim pickings for now, more titles will be announced over the course of the month.

Games that will be leaving the service include Red Dead Online for cloud and consoles on September 13th. On September 15th, the following titles will also be gone so play them now while you still have the chance.

Company of Heroes 2 (PC)

Disgaea 4 (PC)

Forza Motorsport 7 (Cloud, Console, and PC)

Hotshot Racing (Cloud and Console)

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics (Cloud, Console, and PC)

Next week's free game is The Messenger, a Ninja Gaiden-inspired platformer.

It’s a new week for freebies on the Epic Games Store. Costume Quest and SOMA are gone and Nuclear Throne, a top-down roguelike shooter from Vlambeer is in. Reikon Games’ Ruiner, another top-down shooter but set in a cyberpunk city, is also free.

Enter the Gungeon and The Binding of Isaac fans will probably like Nuclear Throne. You battle through a post-nuclear series of levels, battling other mutants and gathering weapons – along with taking on perks through mutations – to eventually claim the titular Nuclear Throne. It’s tough but fairly addicting.

Ruiner might be more interesting due to its neo-noir aesthetic and extensive gritty violence. It’s not a roguelike but there are a series of weapons, upgrades and some strong melee combat features to keep you hooked. Both games will be available November 14th. The next free title will be Sabotage Studio’s The Messenger, a retro platformer that’s inspired by Ninja Gaiden.

They're not immediately apparent but video games can teach quite a lot to the average player.

We’ve all had that moment in a video game where it’s felt more real than the code or the graphics governing. Like it’s very essence has influenced us in different ways, both big and small, throughout our lives. There are life lessons to be learned in video games and we may be picking them up without even knowing it. Here are a few.

Note: The views expressed in this article are those of the author and do not necessarily represent the views of, and should not be attributed to, GamingBolt as an organization

Never Giving Up

As in life, video games can present many frustrations. There may be a boss whose patterns you’ve figured out but still can’t beat. There may be that one mission in every Call of Duty (for us, it’s that damn Nightmares mode in Black Ops 3) which you beat your head against again and again. But at the end of the day, you never give up and never give in. Even when everything seems lost.
