These 15 expansions are simply unmissable for fans that wish to have the complete experience.

While post-launch expansion packs aren’t as popular as they once used to be, every now and then we get fantastic DLCs that add so much to the base experience that they become an essential part of the package itself. Some might add a crucial new mechanic, some might tell independent stories, while others might fix key criticisms of the base game. And with this feature, we will look at 15 such examples of expansions that you need to check out.

The Witcher 3 – Hearts Of Stone

The Witcher 3 is a massive game that’s brimming with quality content that would keep one engaged for hours on end, but playing the base game alone isn’t the complete experience. Both of the game’s post-launch expansions including Hearts of Stone are equally good in their own right, but we are going with the latter of the DLCs for this list simply because of the fantastic story. Set in an entirely new section of the map called No Man’s Land, Hearts of Stone is all about Geralt trying to defeat the immortal Olgierd von Everec. Hearts of Stone also introduces new Monsters, side quests, and new combat mechanics like Runewords which come together to make this expansion a surprisingly fresh experience that’s unmissable for fans of The Witcher.

Along with native 60 FPS support, PS4 and Xbox One owners can upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions at no extra cost.

Mobius Digital’s space exploration title Outer Wilds (along with the Echoes of the Eye DLC) will be released on September 15th for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It will include native 60 frames per second support. Check out the current-gen version in action below.

Outer Wilds is currently available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The story sees the player as an explorer, lifting off from his home planet to explore the solar system. When the sun goes supernova, the player ends up back on their planet, essentially trapped in a time loop. What’s causing the loop and how to break free from it forms the core mystery, though there are plenty of other amazing discoveries to be made.

It’s worth noting that those who the PS4 and Xbox One versions can upgrade to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S for free. As for the Nintendo Switch version, Mobius Digital confirmed on Twitter that it was still in development. “It’s a heavy undertaking, and well, you know how time dilation gets around dense gravitational fields. Rest assured it’s still being worked on, and we’ll let you know when we have something exciting to share.”

The beloved indie hit's expansion has launched for for PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

There are some games out there that emphatically prove that creativity and a talented development team are far more important than big AAA budgets and endless resources, and Mobius’ Outer Wilds is definitely one of those games. The beloved time loop space exploration title is widely regarded as one of the best and most inventive games in recent memory, and those who play it can’t help but want for more. And more is exactly what the developer’s delivered.

The expansion, Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye, has launched now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. This new chunk of content will once again involve cosmic mysteries and questions, with a central story involving a strange and inexplicable satellite photo, as well as a mysterious new museum exhibit, of all things- and if it’s anywhere close to being as good as the base game, then we’re all in for a treat. Check out its launch trailer below.

Outer Wilds is, of course, also available on the Nintendo Switch now, but there’s no word yet on when (or if) this expansion will come to Nintendo’s hybrid.
