As Pocketpair preps to condense a very long list of changes into a series of patch notes that make sense, we thought it best to give you the gist of what to expect when Palworld finally exits early access this Friday.

It’s always an exciting feeling to be in the final phase of a long wait for something that you think is really cool, isn’t it? That’s exactly what we’re feeling for Palworld 1.0, a version of the popular titles that’s been a long time coming, and is looking like quite a meaningful upgrade to the world it presents us with as it exits Early Access.

We’ve been touching upon them from time to time, as the studio tells us more, but with the final release being as close as it is, we thought it best to get a closer look at what’s coming, and perhaps help you decide if this one was worthy of a weekend with cancelled plans. Well, keep your calendars handy as we take you through what you can expect from the upcoming update. Let’s go.

1. An Entirely Reworked Progression Curve

If you happen to have missed Pocketpair’s communications director Bucky telling us about that long list of changes, you’re going to be very excited to know that there’s going to be a lot of change coming to the world across the entirety of the adventure. There’s an improved early game, a more balanced and fleshed-out midgame, and the endgame content you’re already familiar with supplemented by new additions.

That’s a solid rethink of the game’s entire narrative and exploratory structure, and it should make this version of Palworld feel like a new beast altogether. It’s also a strong reason to consider the next entry on this list quite well if you’re a returning player.

2. Starting Over Might Be A Good Idea

Given that there are changes across the journey for you to discover and make use of, you might want to think about a new playthrough despite your old saves working with the new update. That’s because you might be missing out on a lot if you just load up an endgame save, with the redesigned progression loop’s new advantages slipping by you.

It’s a great indication that Pocketpair has rebuilt the very route you take through the whole experience, while adding in a very attractive final destination in the World Tree.

3. A Mission-Driven Story Structure

If there was a complaint we had about Palworld’s Early Access build, it’s that uncovering lore about the Island and its mysteries could feel rather disjointed, with the bosses and gameplay systems not connecting back to the narrative well enough for it all to come together cohesively.

Well, that’s about to change as Version 1.0 is bringing a series of story-driven missions to the table, ensuring that your exploration and gameplay now act as bridges over narrative structural gaps, letting you discover the Island better than before while also letting you come to terms with what’s changed in the new update. That’s definitely a win-win.

4. A Reworked World Map

It would have been easy to just add a giant new region with a lot of things to do to the existing map before calling it a day, but we’re glad Pocketpair isn’t taking that route. There are going to be improvements to existing areas that make them feel more “alive”, while new areas are indeed a part of the new content making its way to the game.

We can’t wait to find out if the original version’s uneven density is going to be addressed to give the overall world more purpose, and whether the additional square mileage builds on that to make this the definitive version of the game’s world.

5. The World Tree

We’re very happy that the World Tree is finally coming into play, since we’re the type of gamers who just can’t see something we know is going to be a part of the fun at some point, but just can’t access it yet. The Tree has been at the edge of our goals for too long, and 1.0 bringing it into the playable experience is very welcome.

We believe having it accessible can add a new layer of direction to fresh playthroughs, giving the impression that everything our characters are doing is in service of reaching a final destination that’s now within our grasp. That’s a very welcome narrative and geographical endpoint for an adventure that really needed them in our book.

6. Mechanically Reworked Tower Bosses

If you’ve decided on a new playthrough and are expecting to blaze a path through bosses and towers in your path, think again. Things are different this time around, and enemies and bosses have been reworked to be more dynamic and engaging when you take them on.

The developers claim that they’re different enough to warrant a change in strategy, so you might want to stay on your toes and prepare for a few tough battles on your way to the World Tree. Of course, new bosses are also a part of the mix, so your time in the updated world is likely not going to feel too familiar even if you’re a player who’s been diligent about seeing it all.

7. The New and Improved Wildlife Sanctuaries

We loved Wildlife Sanctuaries in the Early Access build, and we’re thrilled that they’re getting an overhaul in the final one. They’re going to function as more than just restricted zones with rare Pals that feel kind of interchangeable. They’re bringing distinct ecosystems, powerful bosses, rare Pals of course, barriers and drones for you to work around, and unique materials and landscapes, all of which could make them viable endgame ecosystems for you to work with.

It could make grabbing those extra few levels and some potentially great Pals all the more engaging as you rebuild a new character to match your previous endgame build, or go in an entirely new direction if you so choose.

8. Overhauled Raids

It isn’t just about new content being added to Raids but about a complete overhaul of their mechanics that has us pretty eager to see what’s new. It’s no secret that Raids could feel a little repetitive and we’re hoping that the new changes are going to do something about that.

The overhaul is definitely coming with 1.0, although the exact specifics have been kept under wraps, and we’re guessing they’re going to be an important talking point once they’re out in the open. We’re pretty optimistic that things are going to improve, keeping how the rest of the game is being overhauled in mind.

9. No Place Like Your Home Base

Every world that’s filled with mystery and danger must come with that one place where you can put your feet up after a hard day’s adventuring. Well, your Home Base is where that happens in Palworld, and we’re pretty happy about the new Offshore Building feature being added to Version 1.0.

Building offshore can let you plan your base’s defences better, while also switching things up on the aesthetics and placement fronts. With new structures, building parts, and the ability to use a lot of previously unusable dead space on the coasts, this is a mechanical change that we’re very curious to see in action.

10. The Wing Pack’s New Brand of Traversal

Getting around a world as big as the one on offer in Palworld was always going to be a challenge, and we think Pocketpair’s made a really good call bringing the Wind Pack into the mix. For starters, it frees up a valuable party slot that you’d have otherwise assigned to a flying Pal. That automatically gives you more options for your party composition and its effectiveness in combat and other situations.

The ability to fly around the island all on your own is something we’re quite pleased with, and we’re sure a lot of you newbies and returning players alike are going to agree.

11. New Pals, New Ways To Field Them

We’re not going to dwell too much on the addition of new Pals for you to find out there as you explore the Island’s farthest reaches, going to places familiar and fresh all at once. That was kind of a given. But what we’re very interested in is the fact that some of these new additions come with functionalities that are quite unique.

There’s one that transforms into a two-handed sword, for instance, and that’s the one we’re going to make a beeline for as soon as its possible to try grabbing it. It’s a very exciting addition that could take Pals beyond mounts and passive labour tools, integrating them more directly into Palworld’s combat systems in ways that make sense while also meaningfully evolving its gameplay. We’re hoping that this new update is the start of something creatively beautiful in the long-term.

12. Mid-Game Overhaul

Titles like Palworld often struggle to build meaningful midgame progression loops that bridge the pleasures of early progress and easy leveling to the more challenging late-game rewards that are hard to earn, and equally as satisfying. Getting to a stage where your upgrades are only incremental, while resources get harder to acquire in the required numbers, and recapturing lost ground gets a tad repetitive.

Although Pockpetpair has stayed mum about how it plans to address that particular problem, it’s clear that the midgame has been a major area of focus for the studio, and that it’s being fleshed out in ways that are designed to make it more appealing. We’re going to reserve a verdict for once we’re actually there experiencing it for ourselves, but we think this part of things is certainly headed in the right direction.

13. The New Endgame

With all of the cool things we’ve already spoken about, it’s clear that the progression loop in Palworld is going past the version where it could get a little boring once you were a master of your tech. The endgame expansion that’s been promised is only one part of why getting to be the best version of your character might only be the beginning of a lot of fun to be had in the world.

New Sanctuaries, revamped towers and raids, new places alongside the World Tree, and so much more could make the endgame feel like a world where your progression continues to sustain itself in ways that make sense, leaving behind the old experience’s lack of allure once you have enough stuff unlocked to be an absolute powerhouse. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out, but we see no reason not to expect a fair bit of fun things to do once you hit your metaphorical peak in the game.

14. You Face A Hard Choice

We know we said it’s recommended to start a new playthrough to see everything 1.0 has to offer, but we’re equally aware that that’s easier said than done. Yes, your existing saves are going to survive, but are you going to use them while missing out on a lot of the new facets being added to the overall experience? Or are you going to leave years of progress, bases, and Pals behind to start over again?

We’d personally use our old saves to try and get to the end of the story while having a new one in order to experience the reworked adventure right from the start, but that’s just us. A new playthrough is going to feel fresh, but will it be enough to justify leaving all the work you’ve put into your current save behind? That’s for you to decide.

15. Changes To Player Side-Combat

Yes, there are new weapons. Yes, there’s new gear for your character to find and equip. Yes, there are new Pals, some of which even double up as weapons. But can all that change the combat system’s affinity towards encouraging the collection of stronger Pals while trying to balance that out with what your player character can do?

We know that there are going to be changes in this department, but we’re curious to see if they are going to be enough to balance out player combat, traversal, and Pal abilities in a way that makes player-driven combat builds more viable. We’d definitely be on board with that, as we hate putting our Pals in any kind of danger, even if they were meant to be on the front lines. It remains to be seen if we’re going to have new ways to deal damage instead of dealing more of it across the board.

And that’s about it with this one. We’re sure excited about finally getting to the World Tree, even if we have to start from scratch to do it. It’s now a matter of waiting out the rest of the week before we see the lot of you on the Island with us!

Pocketpair's popular monster-taming survival crafting title will finally exit early access on July 10th, adding tons of new content.

Over two years of early access and a launch that took the world by storm later, Pocketpair’s Palworld 1.0 arrives this week at last. It’s been a long journey, and lest you think the momentum has slowed, the developer has announced over 40 million players. The last milestone was 32 million-plus as of February 2025.

A new video details all the updates released thus far, including raid bosses, an arena, collaborations with properties like Terraria and more. Cross-play has been added alongside Sakurajima, and the Pal roster has expanded extensively. There have also been numerous improvements to core systems like melee combat and the ability to transfer Pals across worlds.

Of course, the question, as always, is: What does 1.0 have to offer? The overtly long patch notes aren’t available just yet, but you can expect offshore base-building, overhauled Sanctuaries, revamped tower bosses, and new Pals, weapons, armor, and structures. Pocketpair previously proclaimed this to be the biggest update by far – which is appropriate since it’s also adding a massive new region and the end-game scenario with the World Tree.

Palworld 1.0 launches on July 10th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, and PC. Stay tuned for more details in the coming days.

Players can also look forward to reworked towers, bosses and Sanctuaries, with the latter now having unique ecosystems and materials.

With Palworld 1.0 right around the corner and Pocketpair’s publishing director touting around 27 pages of patch notes in its current state, there’s a lot to look forward to beyond the new region and finale. According to a new tweet, players can expect new base structures, parts and even the option to build offshore, bringing their beach base aspirations to life.

And while the prospect of overhauled raid mechanics is nice, that’s only a small part of what players can expect. According to previous tweets, a “series of story-driven missions” will take you through new areas while existing locations have seen improvements to “feel more alive.” Sanctuaries now have unique ecosystems, from dome barriers to drones, and offer distinct materials.

You’ll also happen upon rare Pals, but be warned – “powerful bosses” lie in wait. Speaking of which, the iconic towers and their bosses have also been reworked to be more “dynamic and engaging.” It’s a lot to take in, and once again, that’s on top of the new Pals (including one that transforms into a two-handed sword), firearms and equipment, including the new Wing Suit for flying around unassisted.

Palworld 1.0 goes live on July 10th, marking the title’s exit from early access after 2.5 years, and will be available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Stay tuned for more details and teases as the countdown to launch continues.

The final total could end up less as Pocketpair's Bucky attempts to make it neat, but there are still tons of changes on the way.

With Palworld finally exiting early access on July 10th, anticipation is high about what Version 1.0 could offer. An end-game scenario at the World Tree is already confirmed alongside new weapons and Pals (including some recent reveals like Puffolt and Sekhmet). But you should also expect tons of changes, perhaps to the tune of 27 pages of patch notes.

Yes, seriously. Pocketpair communications director and publishing manager Bucky recently shared on Twitter that he’s “Losing my mind trying to make nice patch notes for Palworld 1.0…who’d have thought that, *checks notes*, 27 PDF pages of changes and additions would be hard to make neat.”

While it’s probably possible to better summarize all this, meaning fewer pages, that shouldn’t diminish the sheer amount of content or new systems coming with 1.0. Pocketpair already confirmed that it’s the game’s biggest update yet, and we’ve caught a glimpse of what may be the new region with its floating islands.

It also encouraged fans who’ve already made tons of progress to make a new character. There won’t be any data wipes, but it seems that the journey to the World Tree has some new surprises in store.

Palworld 1.0 will be available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, and PC when it launches in two weeks. Don’t worry, though – it’s not the end of updates by a long shot, as Pocketpair is committed to post-launch support (just not like, say, No Man’s Sky).

The company's head of communications and publishing also noted that the studio's artists like to create things on their own without AI.

With the use of generative AI being a hot-button issue in the video games industry, Pocketpair’s head of communications and publishing, John Buckley, has entered the discussion. Speaking to GamesRadar, Buckley said that Pocketpair itself doesn’t use generative AI since “Gamers don’t want it.”

“And if the gamers don’t want it, I guess that’s it, right? Not much of a conversation to be had.”

While this simple argument might seem like it’s enough for the Palworld developer, Buckley has acknowledged that it might not be enough for other development teams. He also went on to call the current market trends supporting generative AI as unsustainable in the long term.

“I’m sure some people are doing it,” he said. “It’s not really for us. I personally can’t imagine it ever being too prominent. I’m sure there are some companies out there, some big companies, that are maybe using it to ‘save time.’ I don’t know. I don’t really think gen AI has much – I don’t want to call it a bubble, but I don’t know how much longer it’s gonna keep up. Even Steam is pushing back a certain amount on it.”

Buckley went on to note that Pocketpair already has “a lot of artists in-house. They like doing stuff themselves. There’s no reason to get rid of them for the sake of an AI doing it. Just seems pointless.”

He also doesn’t seem to have much of a high opinion of games that have been made with AI-generated assets. “Even I, who is in the industry, I just felt like a natural, ugh, why? The rest of your game looks fine. Did you need to…? I think that’s going to be the attitude for quite a while. I think people will look at it and say, did you need to do that? Couldn’t you just do it yourself?”

As for whether there’s going to be a shift in marketing strategies that revolve around studios announcing that their game doesn’t use generative AI, Buckley is more optimistic on the subject.

“I don’t know if we need to now start saying this is 100% human-made,” Buckley adds. “I think we should just all assume games are human-made unless said otherwise. I think it’s a bit dystopian that it might end up like that. We’ll have to put a Steam disclaimer, ‘This game is made by humans.’ That’s kind of sad to think about.”

“Not saying I am, but there are some markets that are a lot more willing to adapt than some others, and I think that’s where the clashing will come,” he continued. “Two to three years from now, we’ll see a bigger clash in that regard. Certainly, in the West, I think people will remain pretty against [it] for a while.”

In recent times, Playground Games has confirmed that AI-generated voices weren’t used for its upcoming RPG, Fable. On the other hand, Crystal Dynamics has confirmed the use of generative AI for the early parts of the development for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.

The World Tree inches ever closer, and the conclusion to a long journey looks quite exciting thanks to the update’s many additions.

Pocketpair seems to have spared no effort to live up to its claim that Palworld’s 1.0 Update is going to be the game’s biggest one yet. A new tweet from the studio shows off a lot of the update’s new weapons (including the slick new Wing Pack), although it still feels like it’s only a glimpse of what’s awaiting us at the World Tree.

There’s that new Pal that can turn into a sword, for instance, and some incredibly designed bosses that could push even the best setups to their absolute limits. We’d have liked to see more of that Serpent Pal in the clouds, but we suspect Pocketpair’s keeping the suspense about it alive with less than a month to go before the update. It’s going to be interesting to see how the story comes to its conclusion, and what awaits the world after it’s all said and done.

For our part, we’re just happy that Palworld is finally leaving Early Access on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, and bringing more of the gameplay loop that we know and love to the table. The time to capture new Pals is almost upon us, and we can’t wait to dive back in.

The first-ever cinematic trailer for Pocketpair's creature-collecting title kickstarts the anticipation for its biggest update yet.

We predicted that Pocketpair would announce a date for Palworld’s 1.0 release, but we didn’t think it’d be so soon. It’s available on July 10th with the first-ever cinematic trailer. Check it out below.

Alongside new locations in the form of floating islands, which are perfect for traversing with your flying mounts. Not that it’s a serene journey, though, as a new Serpent Pal seemingly awaits in the clouds, ready to take you down. If the actual battle in the clouds is anything like this trailer, then players are certainly in for something special.

Beyond this, a few new Pals are recognizable, including one that doubles up as a weapon. After vanquishing the Serpent, they look out at the World Tree, which is where the finale (and what seems to be the final boss) awaits. What players can exactly expect remains to be seen, but while it marks the end of the current story, Palworld will continue with more updates.

In the meantime, Pocketpair remains extremely quiet on what Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC players can look forward to in 1.0. It has teased that this is the survival crafting/creature collecting title’s biggest update ever, and you can bet that will extend into other areas like new buildings, facilities, armor sets, and mechanics.

While a name change for its existing multiplayer mode, developer Pocketpair may be planning a larger revamp for the same.

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve heard anything about Palworld, especially with early access still slated to end this year. One can’t help but wonder where it could slot in, given the ever-increasing threat of Grand Theft Auto 6 in November, but Pocketpair may already be making moves. Gematsu discovered a trademark for Palworld Online in the United States, while Inven found the same in South Korea.

Both were filed within days of each other (April 27th and 24th), and usually, that would mean an announcement is afoot. Lest you think this is for a brand-new game (which is always possible), it could be related to Palworld’s current multiplayer mode, which supports up to 32 players on one server.

On the one hand, this could be a simple name change, but perhaps Pocketpair is looking to expand on the same with 1.0. Maybe we’ll see increased player counts or a more MMO-like approach to multiplayer. We’ll have to wait to find out, but these trademarks could indicate an announcement at some point in the near future.

Palworld is currently available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, and PC. While the developer has yet to really dive into everything coming in 1.0, publishing head and communications lead John Buckley claims that it will “surprise people.” Of course, there’s the hope that it delivers “kind of something for everyone.”

Responding to a DM with a public social media post, John Buckley asked players to wait a bit longer as the studio quietly continues its work.

As developer Pocketpair continues its work on the long-awaited 1.0 update for Palworld, the studio’s head of communications and publishing, John Buckley, has asked fans of the game to wait for a bit longer. While he acknowledged that many players have been eagerly waiting for the studio to announce a release date for Palworld 1.0, he noted that the game is “still in the oven.”

“Last September, we posted a video explaining that the entire team’s focus was on 1.0 and that we’d be going quiet until it’s ready,” he wrote on social media platform X. “I know you gamers want 1.0 ASAP, but it’s still in the oven!” Buckley wrote this message as a public response to a DM he got asking him, “Are you guys even working on Palworld anymore? Where is 1.0, bro?!” In replies to the post, Buckley went on to say that, “We’ll crack the oven open a little when it’s nearly done so you’ll smell it.”

On the subject of staying quiet about the update until the studio is ready to share, Buckley noted that players levelled similar criticisms against Pocketpair when it came to updates like Feybreak.

“It’s great how enthusiastic everyone is for 1.0, but when it comes to how to actually market and promote our game…I think we have a pretty good grasp on what to do,” he wrote.

The fact that Palworld‘s 1.0 update is taking so long and the studio isn’t quite ready to announce a release date should come as no surprise, since the update is slated to bring in a lot of new content to the game. During GDC 2026 last month, Buckley had spoken about how it will include “something for everyone.”

“Survival crafting is a very unique genre. It’s a very Steam genre, for all its woes and highs,” he said. “There’s so many incredible, incredible survival crafting games, but I think every survival crafting gamer has their like ideal version of what survival crafting should be, and we hope Palworld 1.0 will be that kind of something for everyone, lose yourself in this world, survival crafting game.” He went on to say that, “Palworld is going to be the survival crafting game everyone always wanted.”

As for more details about what 1.0 might include, he went on to say that “It’s still quite top secret.”

“There’s gonna be things that surprise people. I think people will be shocked by what we’ve been able to achieve for 1.0. 1.0 is going to fall at kind of a weird point for players. You can jump into 1.0 with your existing character if you want to. We’re not force wiping anyone. You can jump in. But we are going to kind of softly recommend you start from scratch, because kind of everything is going to change from the beginning to the end – It’s all going to change.”

On the subject of whether or not Palworld will continue to get new content updates after its 1.0 release, Buckley had previously brought up a comparison with No Man’s Sky, noting that Pocketpair isn’t likely to go the same route.

“A lot of our hardcore fans and players would love for Palworld to be this No Man’s Sky situation where it’s like a decade of continuous, massive updates,” he said. “But realistically, that’s probably not on the cards for Palworld, not only because of engine limitations, but also, it’s a survival crafting game. I think there’s only so many times you can add five levels, add 10 levels, until it gets to this massive bloat point.”

In the meantime, Palworld continues to be available on PC, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in its Early Access form.

John Buckley also spoke about how, with the 1.0 update, the studio wants to make Palworld a game that has "something for everyone".

Pocketpair, the studio behind monster catching and survival crafting game Palworld, has spoken about how the Early Access title’s 1.0 release is going to be its biggest update yet in the past. However, in a new interview, publishing head and communications lead John Buckley has noted that players are going to be shocked at just how extensive the 1.0 update will be. Speaking to GamesRadar during GDC 2026, Buckley discussed the new content coming to the game, and how Palworld 1.0 is aimed at offering “something for everyone”.

While he was still coy about the exact details of the new content coming to Palworld’s 1.0 release, Buckley did note that the update will polish and flesh out just about every single aspect of the game. This also means that players will have the choice of jumping into the game with their old characters, or starting afresh. However, the studio does recommend starting from scratch, thanks simply to the large amount of changes that will be made to the entire game.

“It’s still quite top secret,” said Buckley about the 1.0 update.

As for players who want to continue their existing saves, Buckley explained that “a huge chunk of quote unquote end game content will be added.” This means that “if you really want to continue from where you left off, sure you’re not missing out on the full experience, but you are missing out on some things. We’ve tried our best to expand everything. Not just the end game, but also improve the early game, add more to the early game, flesh out the middle game, kind of something for everyone, really.”

As for the studio’s plans for after the 1.0 update is released, Buckley spoke about how Pocketpair doesn’t have any plans to turn Palworld into a No Man’s Sky-styled situation.

“A lot of our hardcore fans and players would love for Palworld to be this No Man’s Sky situation where it’s like a decade of continuous, massive updates,” he explained. “But realistically, that’s probably not on the cards for Palworld, not only because of engine limitations, but also, it’s a survival crafting game. I think there’s only so many times you can add five levels, add 10 levels, until it gets to this massive bloat point.”

Palworld is available on PC, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
