And the confusion continues.

Ever since the announcement of Xbox One the consumers have been going wild due to the confusion of how pre-owned titles would work on the Xbox One. Several Microsoft employees tried to explain but have failed multiple times and caused nothing but more frustration and anger for the fans.

The first few updates suggest that Xbox One would require a fee to be paid when playing a used game after the game disc has been de-authorized on a previous system.

However, several Retail sources have told MCVUK the following regarding how it pre-owned games would work between the company and retail stores.

1) The game would have to be checked in every 24 hours via online while your Xbox One is connected to the internet

2) It’s possible to sell an owned game to a retailer only to those who have agreed to Microsoft’s T&C

3) Publisher of the title will receive a certain % cut of the sale

The latest update to this story was posted by Larry Hyrb on his Major Nelson Blog and this what he has stated regarding the Xbox One used-games topic.

“The ability to trade in and resell games is important to gamers and to Xbox. Xbox One is designed to support the trade in and resale of games. Reports about our policies for trade in and resale are inaccurate and incomplete. We will disclose more information in the near future.”

More confusion

The last 48 hours have been quite hectic for Microsoft’s Xbox One reveal, especially the way that the next-gen console is handling the pre-owned games. Negative impressions and questionable actions of Microsoft have caused an uproar on the internet.

Microsoft has confirmed that games will be forced to be installed on the system’s hard drive, and if you wanted to install the same disc on your friends hard-drive the owner of the disc has to pay another fee for additional install.

Meanwhile, Microsoft corporate VP Phil Harrison spoke to CVG today confirming that Xbox One gamers who bough and activated a pre-owned retail copy of a game will be required to pay the same price as the original buyer in order to be able to play.

However, Larry Hryb now tells gamers to be patient for a clearer explanation regarding pre-owned games. “We are months away from the launch of Xbox One & policy decisions are still being finalized,” he said via twitter. “When they are, we will let you know.”

This whole dilemma is undoubtedly starting to get annoying for consumers around the world. It seems that Microsoft is back-pedaling due to the uproar of the internet and the confusion that the company has caused. I guess we have no choice but to wait.
