Good news for the local market.

Earlier we reported that PS3 games were going to be locally replicated in India, but now we have official confirmation from Sony.

They have announced a list of titles that will be sold for Rs 999, and this is possible due to manufacturing them locally. These games will be available from April 3rd in the country.

“These titles will be introduced in smaller waves beyond the first wave described during the summer months. This will allow the new consumers to start gaming without having to worry on the running cost of the games and the quality of games available at affordable price points,” the press release reads.

“Such an attractive range of marquee titles at the ESSENTIALS price band will allow new gamers to easily enter the PS3 category. And what better than the summer holiday season to introduce such a large range of affordable game choices to own and add to one’s collection,” Mr. Atindriya Bose, Country Manager, Sony PlayStation said.

These are the games that will be receiving the price drop first:

God of War Collection Volume 1

God of War Collection Volume 2

God of War 3

Killzone 3

Resistance 3

Motorstorm Apocalypse

Uncharted 2 : Amongst Thieves

Heavy Rain Move Edition

Sports Champions

The Fight

The Last of Us confirmed to be manufactured in India.

Starting with the manufacturing of its PS3 Essentials range, Sony will begin manufacturing PS3 games in India. This means reduced costs with the Essentials range dropping in pricing from Rs. 1199 to Rs. 999.

The list of games includes Killzone 3, Resistance 3 and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves – all part of the Essentials range and releasing this month.

Even better, Sony has confirmed that even upcoming titles will be manufactured in India including Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us releasing on June 14th worldwide. Hopefully this means that they’ll cost less than the current asking price of Rs. 2999 for new releases.

As of now, local manufacturing is limited only to first-party titles but Sony is currently in talks with third party publishers to remedy this. Hopefully they can convince Activision to reduce the price for its Call of Duty games, which have been infamous for their premium pricing.

Affordable games on PSN too.

Sony has announced a new brand named PS3 Essentials where first and third-party games are available at a very cheap price. They will also be available in a different packaging as you can see in the image on the right.

These titles range from Uncharted to good PS Move games like The Fight. There are also third-party games like Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and the likes, which are no doubt still relevant and attractive at that price point.

These titles are priced at 20 euros each, and some of them will also be available on the PSN Store for 15 euros. The new PS3 was announced at TGS, and this essential range will complement it nicely.
