Industry analyst Michael Pachter believes Sony didn't deem the expense to be worth the benefits received.

Sony recently made the huge announcement that they wouldn’t be holding their annual event, PlayStation Experience, this year, stating that they didn’t feel they had enough to announce at this stage to warrant an entire stage event being held. The announcement, to be fair, made sense, since most of Sony’s biggest upcoming games for the foreseeable future – if not all of them – have already been announced.

However, there has been some speculation that the reason Sony decided not to hold a PSX this year is because they’re gearing up for the launch of PS5. It’s not hard to see why people think so, either- it’s no secret that the PS4 is in the final two or three years of its life cycle. However, according to industry analyst Michael Pachter, that’s most likely not the case.

We recently had the chance to speak with Pachter about a number of things, and also asked him about his thoughts on the PSX announcement. According to Pachter, this is most likely a cost saving move, and nothing more. “I am sure it is just a cost saving move,” he told GamingBolt. “They probably decided the expense wasn’t worth the benefits they got. No, I don’t think it’s related to PS5 launch.”

While Sony has decided to skip on having an event this year, November will see Microsoft bringing back X0, while other avenues also seem to be opening up for some interesting announcements. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more info.

PlayStation Experience is almost here! And while it will be a decidedly more low key affair this year than it has been in the past, it is still a time for us to get together and celebrate our love for PlayStation, and the games coming to it in the coming year or so.

And that’s really what it’s all about, isn’t it? It’s about the games. So, Sony has gone ahead and shared the full list of exhibitors for the event, including their in house studios, subsidiaries, and third party partners- it seems like there will be a lot of companies hawking their wares, so you should be able to find something that interests you.

They have also revealed the list of games that will be playable on the show floor at the event- there are over 100 of them! As always, the list is subject to change (and more games will probably get added to it, including some that may not be announced until PSX actually begins). These games will be for PS4 and PSVR. Check out the full lists, both, of the exhibitors, and of the games, below. PSX is on December 8 and 9 this year.

So Layden was just trolling fans, then.

Yesterday, when Shawn Layden took the stage at the PlayStation Experience keynote to present, you could almost hear a collective gasp from the audience- the dude was wearing a Crash Bandicoot shirt. Surely this, just the latest in a long line of (inadvertent?) Crash related teases from Sony, meant something? Was today going to be the day when we would finally get the announcement of a new Crash game on the PlayStation?

As it turned out, that didn’t happen. If the Crash T-shirt was a tease, no one, including Sony, knows what it was a tease for. In a question and answer session that was aired live on Twitch with Greg Miller’s PS I Love You, Sony Worldwide Studios’ Shuhei Yoshida admitted that he had no idea why Layden had worn the shirt he had worn- Yoshida hadn’t even known that Layden would be wearing it.

Layden, mate, you’re playing with fire here. Never lead fans on like that- just ask Microsoft and Conker fans how that turns out.
