As Crackdown 3’s long, long-awaited launch finally approaches, Microsoft have been doing everything in their power to drum up excitement for the game. To that end, they’ve also done something that fans of the series, especially the first game, will appreciate. The original Crackdown, which launched on the Xbox 360 back in 2007, is now free on the Microsoft Store.

This is a great opportunity to go back to a solid game, or to experience it for the first time, in anticipation of the upcoming sequel’s release. Given the fact that Xbox One X enhancements were also added to the title in February this year, the prospect of playing the game before Crackdown 3 launches becomes even more attractive.

As for Crackdown 3, it’s launch seems to be set in stone now, finally. Scheduled for a February 22, 2019 launch on PC and Xbox One, the game’s going to be playable at Microsoft’s X018 event (taking place tomorrow in Mexico City). Recent rumours have suggested that the game could be getting a new subtitle, so maybe that’s something we will hear about as well. Meanwhile, the PC system requirements for the title were also recently confirmed. Read more on that through here.

Everything you need to know about APB: Reloaded.

APB: Reloaded is an upcoming console port of the free to play online action shooter on PC that was released in June and July of 2010, in North America and Europe respectively. Originally the game was developed by the Scotland based company, Realtime Worlds, but in August of 2010 they went into administration and in September of the same year, the game servers were announced to be shut down.

Luckily for the game, in November of 2010, an online games company based in California called K2 Network stepped in and bought APB: All Points Bulletin for £1.5 million. Following this, the game was relaunched in 2011 as a free to play title under the name APB Reloaded. In 2012, K2 network merged with another online games developer, Reloaded Games and since then they have been developing and working on the game as Reloaded Productions.

Publishers for the game have included EA and now K2 Network following the acquisition of the title. Originally released on PC, the game is now also coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 thanks to Deep Silver, who found massive acclaim with their Saints Row series of open world action games. This console release will be done in collaboration with Reloaded Productions and “The Workshop Entertainment” with the port out in Q2 2015.

APB: Reloaded first officially went live in March of 2011 when a closed beta test for the game was conducted. The closed test consisted of 5000 testers with 10,000 total in the weeks that followed.

The game officially launched on December 7th of 2011 when the game was added to Steam under the Free To Play games tab. Since then the game has enjoyed a somewhat comfortable player base that have left the game sitting with a general review consensus of “Mostly Positive”. It often features in the top 5 free to play games on Steam.

Commercially, the game didn’t enjoy too much positive press, though this changed over time. Most agreed that the game was good, but nothing revolutionary or game changing. Gamingbolt gave the game the original APB: Reloaded a 6/10, citing repetitive missions and a general lack of polish as being the game’s downside as well as an ill-fitting free to play model.

Deep Silver created a short post on their website regarding their involvement with the game, stating that, “We are working with Reloaded Games and The Workshop Entertainment to transform the hit PC F2P Action MMO ‘All Points Bulletin: Reloaded’ into a game destined for the new generation consoles. On its release the game will be free to play and downloadable for all owners of PlayStation 4, and for Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox One. Expect the launch in late Q2 2015.”

Story

The plot of APB: Reloaded concisely boils down to two factions battling for control and power in the fictional city streets of San Paro. This is a dystopian city that houses both the enforcers and Criminals, the two aforementioned factions. Each of these factions is populated by players who then form smaller groups as part of their respective faction.

Gameplay

APB: Reloaded is largely a PVP orientated game, accomplished by pitching the two vying factions of Enforcers and Criminal against each other in missions that will see the two sides fight it out to accomplish their goals.

These missions will have the control sway back and forth as players will find themselves on the attack and on the defensive when parameters change. The typical multiplayer mission modes are what make up the bulk of the gameplay and they include the likes of Capture the Flag, VIP, Keep Away and the like.

What makes the gameplay different is the fact that these missions are often set in large urban environments rather than arenas that, coupled with varied weapon types and vehicles, make it distinct too. Players generate in-game revenue by completing activities such as bounty collection, stealing from others and mugging players in the game world. This money is used to buy vehicles weapons and equipment for the player. Given that APB: Reloaded supports micro-transactions, real world cash can also be used to purchase goods from the in-game store.

The PS4 and Xbox One builds of the game are expected to keep the PC version’s micro-transactions in place.

Characters

Given the nature of APB: Reloaded, players are given character creation tools for crafting their own avatar. These avatars then have a range of characteristics, including:

Rating – This is the characters levels with their contacts.

Standing – This is your characters faction points and it will determine your contact levels.

Reputation – This is your notoriety level or your prestige level.

Role Rank – This dictates your rank and role within the faction.

Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game.

Which company is Semag recruiting for? Well...

You might not have heard of UK company Semag but it’s responsible for recruiting 3D and character artists for such companies as Guerrilla Games (Killzone: Shadow Fall), Evolution Studios (DriveClub) and Realtime Worlds (Crackdown, All Points Bulletin). An interesting listing for a lead character artist has popped up on CGHub, in which Semag is looking to recruit for a “Hugely Succesful Character Driven AAA Xbox One/PS4 Title”.

The listing invites interested character artists to work “on one of the most creative and exciting games the industry has ever seen, due for release in 2014.” Aside from requirements for high resolution modeling and “high quality” texture creation, it “‘Unreal Engine’ Game experience” has also been listed. So we can assume that it will be running on Unreal Engine 4 which is geared towards next gen consoles.

The question is: Who is it for? Could the listing for both Xbox One and PS4 be meant to throw us off, given how Realtime worked on an Xbox title and both Evolution and Guerrilla specialize in PlayStation titles? We’ll have to wait for more details but in the meantime, tell us your thoughts below on the same.

The free to play MMO says daily activity in the range of 25 to 30K players per day.

According to VG247, APB: Reloaded now has 3 million registered users and sees a daily activity in the range of 25,000 to 30,000 players each day. Compare that success to the original and be amazed at the irony as we were.

APB or All Points Bulletin was deemed to be a new and different kind of massively multiplayer online game – until it released at a time when the subscription model was winding down (thus resulting in heavy blows to Funcom with The Secret World) and fell flat. This lead to the closure of the original developer Realtime Worlds.

But apparently things seem right in APB land, as APB: Reloaded, a new free to play version heavily based on the original has risen up from the ashes. It already saw lots of success in the past year when it stayed on Steam’s Top 5 list of free to play titles. And judging by Reloaded’s desire to create an “all new APB experience”, nothing seems to be slowing it down.

Reloaded as the game’s name suggests is a remake or a “give me another chance” version of the game, and not the you know what. The Reloaded version is not made by Realtime Worlds and it attempts to rectify the issues that plagued the original game, and doesn’t succeed. I mean, there are some good things here; they’ve managed to make the game less mediocre than before, which is an achievement in itself I guess.

It’s a free-to-play MMO and is set in a city called San Paro. The developers say it’s not GTA, and I agree, it’s not; its much worse than that. The game is fun sometimes, especially when you have those incredibly fast car chases that can really be satisfying. The game is so inconsistent that these fun moments don’t last for too long. The city is fun to drive in and create chaos, and you can do a lot of things here, including camping.

The major issues with the game can range from camping to glitches, and these are the things that suck all the fun out of it. There’s an in-game economy; you can buy guns, cars and they are all priced depending upon how awesome they are. So the bottomline is that if you have a powerful weapon or a good car, you will dominate in this game. If you’re skilled, that’s a bonus.

If you have played the original game you will know that the driving mechanics were one of the worst things ever. GamersFirst has rectified this and the controls and the car movement is quite responsive here. This makes a lot of difference and transforms the game as majority of time you will be driving here. It’s good to know that they have listened to the criticism and fixed the things that were important. That still doesn’t make the game good though, it’s still the same mediocre game like before but playable.

There is a lot of recoil here and it will encourage you to fire in short bursts rather than spray-and-pray, and this is one of the good things about the game now, considering the original version had completely poor shooting mechanics. There’s no story here or a decent mission progression system, it is also incredibly repetitive which drags the whole thing down and simply makes it a chore to play most of the times.

The city feels sterile and there’s not as much detail compared to a GTA game, which is again, understandable, but let’s be honest here, the environment makes a lot of difference. It is fun to drive a car and shoot the shit out of everyone, but it becomes boring after a while and isn’t satisfying. There isn’t really a lot of improvements here to call it a reloaded version, but I appreciate the developer’s ability to at least fix the driving since that actually made the game playable and somewhat fun.

APB Reloaded is only recommend if you can buy things to remain competitive. It’s not a terrible game, mind you, but it’s not exceptional either. Free-to-play makes it easier for people to check it out and look at its economy and the gameplay on offer, but the game doesn’t do a good job of showcasing it.

There was a recent closed beta for APB Reloaded (APB = All Points Bulletin) and the Grand Theft Auto type of MMO is not just back but an open beta has been announced with fixes made from the closed beta. The game even has David Jones who previously worked on Grand Theft Auto and Crackdown on the team for the game. He has said “After seeing what the team has done with the game thus far, I’m certain that APB Reloaded will become the title that truly breaks new ground for online game experiences, especially with transition to a free-to-play model.”

The open beta for APB will begin on May 18th, 2011 and will have credit bonuses for players from the original game, new items, Character Restorations and a “radical solution” to keep away cheaters. No guarantees, but signing up for the newsletter is your best bet to get into the beta right now.. so what are you waiting for? Get to it now right here. It also helps to have a GamersFirst account as well. More info coming straight from E3 this year so stay tuned! Hopefully we might see the game come to consoles, but who knows.

Realtime Worlds, Inc. and Electronic Arts , today announced that APB (All Points Bulletin) will be released for the PC on June 29th in North America, July 1st in mainland Europe and July 2nd in the UK. APB takes the universal theme of Criminals and Enforcers and brings it to a persistent, open-world, online multiplayer setting in the modern, crime-ridden fictional city of San Paro. Some players will achieve notoriety by feeding on the city, its people and its businesses…the Criminals. Some will live by a higher code and instead feed on the criminals and their organizations…the Enforcers. This dynamic where players become the core content for other players is one of the many unique features of APB.

David Jones, Creative Director of Realtime Worlds said: “We’re delighted to finally be announcing the release date for APB, and we’re looking forward to welcoming players on to the mean streets of San Paro. Gamers will soon get to experience a world of unparalleled customization, conflict and celebrity – whether they choose to be a Criminal or an Enforcer.”

Founded by industry legend David Jones, creator of Lemmings, Grand Theft Auto 1 & 2 and Crackdown, Realtime Worlds’ latest project, APB, introduces a unique payment model defined by three core concepts: value, flexibility and no commitments. Players pay precisely for time spent in the game’s action districts.

Gamers can purchase a retail version of APB either in-store or via digital download at standard retail price of SRP £34.99. The game includes 50 hours of action gameplay out of the box plus unlimited time in APB’s social districts customizing, socializing and trading in the marketplace. Once the 50-hours are up, players have flexibility: top up their game time from as little as SRP £5.59 for an additional 20 hours, or opt to purchase a 30-day unlimited package for only SRP £7.99 with discounts available for 90 and 180 days. In addition to this flexible payment model, players can also earn game time by actually playing the game. APB provides avenues for accomplished gamers or creators to earn rewards for their creativity and subsidize their ongoing costs with their in-game efforts.

David Jones added: “We wanted to provide a simple and flexible way for occasional and core players alike to pay for their play without being financially tethered to the game. The model also provides an opportunity for customers to subsidize their costs by leveraging their talent or market savvy in the ‘points’ Marketplace. Highly talented players could potentially even play for free in this way”.

Customers can pre-order the game from leading retailers and online from www.apb.com andwww.eastore.com. Pre-order incentives include early access ‘APB VIP’ game time, access to the ‘Key to the City’ demo, exclusive in-game Asylum Upgraded Criminal Car and Enforcer upgraded Patrol Car, C.S.A Enforcer and Asylum Criminal clothing, ‘Chicken’ and ‘Strike-a-pose’ exclusive Emotes.
