Sales for the entire series are now at 157 million, up from the previously reported 154 million as of December 31st, 2023. Resident Evil 4 remake launched in March 2023 and gained overwhelming acclaim for its visual revamps and gameplay changes. Check out our review here, where we awarded it a 10 out of 10. The publisher confirmed a new record high in profits for the seventh consecutive year, with 15 games selling over one million units (compared to nine in the same period last year). Rumors indicate that it will announce Resident Evil 9 this year and launch it by January 2025, so stay tuned for potential announcements in the coming months.

The sales increase follows the launch of the Gold Edition, which includes the base game and Separate Ways DLC, in February 2024. It also features all post-launch updates, like The Mercenaries and the Extra DLC Pack with various costumes, filters, accessories and Deluxe Weapons.

As a remake of the 2005 classic, Resident Evil 4 features heavily revamped visuals and new mechanics. Quick-time events are gone, and a new parry mechanic allows Leon to deflect attacks with his knife until it breaks. A listing for Resident Evil 4: Gold Edition has gone up on Metacritic (via @pl_evil on Twitter), even though Capcom has yet to officially announce said re-release for the remake. You can view a screenshot of the listing below.

As per the listing, it will launch on February 9 next year, which, if accurate, should mean that an announcement won’t be too far away. Presumably, the Gold Edition will include the remake itself, as well as its expansion, Separate Ways.

The listing currently only lists PS5 and PS4 as the platforms the re-release will be available on, but logically, if the edition is real, Capcom will likely release it for Xbox Series X/S and PC as well.
