With Resident Evil Village now three years old, demand for a new mainline entry in Capcom’s celebrated survival horror series is continuing to grow by the day, and it seems Capcom is going to oblige surprisingly soon. That’s as per prominent leaker Dusk Golem, who recently took to Twitter and stated that recent rumblings that he had shared about Resident Evil 9 potentially being delayed out of 2025 are, as it turns out, inaccurate.
As per Dusk Golem, the game is, in fact, going to be announced “pretty soon”, which will be followed by a release in January 2025. Of course, as is the case with any and all leaks, this shouldn’t be taken as a concrete date, since plans could always change, but the leaker says that if things go to plan from this point forward, that’s the timeline that Capcom will be following.
The leaker has also reiterated a number of other details that have been claimed in the past. By the time Resident Evil 9 releases, it will have been in development longer than any previous game in the series, while also having the largest ever development budget for any Resident Evil game to date. The leaker has previously also claimed that the title is being built on Dragon’s Dogma 2’s open world technology, suggesting it could be a wider and more open-ended experience than what series fans are used to.
Another detail that the leaker has reiterated is that in early 2023, Capcom greenlit a fresh batch of new Resident Evil games. As per prior reports, there are currently five Resident Evil games in the works, and unsurprisingly, some of them are allegedly remakes.
How soon it’ll be before Resident Evil 9 (or whatever it ends up being called) will be announced remains to be seen. There are, however, multiple major events coming up in the next few weeks that could serve as suitable stages, including Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Games Showcase, while reports have claimed that a PlayStation Showcase is also on the way.
I have good news/rumors to deliver on Resident Evil 9. The possible delay I had heard murmurs about can be pushed aside. RE9 should be revealed pretty soon & release next year. If what I heard previously holds true, should be in January. It'll have had about 7 years in dev.

(3/5) Just to explain something, RE9 started early dev in early 2018 as a possible RE8. Village has started dev as RE8, then became a spin-off title, then ultimately became RE8 again. This game became RE9 ultimately, & yes, RE8 & RE9 were in dev at the same time. RE games are

(5/5) recently as another batch of RE games were greenlit in early 2023. RE9 has the biggest budget & longest dev time of any RE game to date, & I've described previously as "ambitious". None of this last part is new, it's stuff I've been reiterating for years.
