Developer Raccoon Logic thanked players for their support and is working on a roadmap outlining upcoming updates and new features.

Less than two weeks after launch, Raccoon Logic’s Revenge of the Savage Planet has amassed one million players. A new trailer is available highlighting this milestone alongside acclaim from various critics. Check it out below.

As a follow-up to 2020’s Journey to the Savage Planet, Revenge of the Savage Planet focuses on the player, an employee of Alta, who crashes on Stellaris Prime. While they quickly find their designated human colony, Alta has cancelled their employment, leaving them stranded.

The player begins their quest to return to Earth by scouring the different planets, locating tools and collecting parts. There are other narrative threads to pursue, like working with former Kindred Aerospace founder Martin Tweed to expose Alta’s shady dealings or exploring mysterious game show-like levels.

However, the humor may not be for everyone. Check out our 7/10 review for more details. Revenge of the Savage Planet is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4, and PC alongside Game Pass. Regarding post-launch support, Raccoon Logic revealed that a roadmap is in the works for new features and updates.

The Journey to the Savage Planet sequel goes interplanetary, piling on more in almost every sense to deliver a solid adventure.

When Journey to the Savage Planet rolled around, it received some interest for its balance of light crafting elements with a focused action-adventure narrative. That, and the closure of Typhoon Studios after Google Stadia’s foregone demise.

You’ll be shocked to learn that its sequel, Revenge of the Savage Planet from Raccoon Logic, formed from the remnants of Typhoon, pretty much follows the same tenets. Same satirical take on capitalism and its harmful effects, in small doses through dialogue from your robotic assistant, Eko, and large, oftentimes disgustingly unfunny chunks courtesy of the live-action TV advertisements.

"If you liked the first game, it’s more of that with new tools, various planets to explore, intriguing new alien wildlife to scan, capture and research, and more colorful visuals."

Same narrative-guided gameplay but set on a relatively open map with all kinds of “Return later” obstacles, collectibles, and challenges. Same combat that starts with a piddly pistol, which is absolutely a chore at first but becomes notably less tedious over time. Same, but different, but still same, alongside numerous other regurgitated memes. Spiderman point? A cheeky Portal reference (which is actually one of the better-executed ones in the game)? It’s all here.

That can really sum up your experience with Revenge of the Savage Planet. If you liked the first game, it’s more of that with new tools, various planets to explore, intriguing new alien wildlife to scan, capture and research, and more colorful visuals. If its brand of over-the-top, explosive (and not always in the best way) satire or the humor didn’t appeal to you, then the sequel might not either. Action-adventure players could perhaps power through and find a game fueled by enjoyable exploration, albeit with several hiccups along the way.

The story begins with you, a former Alta employee, awakening in shipwrecked fashion with no tools and off course from the designated habitat, Nu-Florida. The previous game’s Kindred Aerospace was acquired by Alta, the stereotypical “family” focused business with villainous figureheads that are almost so excessively comical that they end up downright blase.

In the interval between cryosleep and arrival, you’ve been fired and must survive the excesses of this new world. This quickly leads to your previous employer, former Kindred CEO Martin Tweed, phoning in and discussing some potential shadiness with Alta. It’s your job to gather evidence and help him build a case. Of course, repairing and printing parts for a Javelin to return to Earth is also paramount, which can only be done by recovering your tools.

But why are your tools scattered across different worlds and so methodically organized? Why are some species and environmental objects so common, even when the planets have vastly different ecosystems? Amid the so-called “revenge,” there’s a decent mystery at the heart of Revenge of the Savage Planet, even if one key facet of the reveal is telegraphed hours beforehand. It’s funny because the smear campaign against Alta concludes in an underwhelming fashion.

"Each of the four planets is visually striking and environmentally distinct, starting with swamps and rainforests, dotted with canopy-like mushrooms and cliffs."

The Idiocracy-tinged humor also just doesn’t land for me. Humor is subjective, though, and maybe you’ll enjoy the excessive maniacal screaming by the supervillains. After a point, it all felt like noise, and the constant returns to base to watch video messages felt tedious at times. The fact that I can’t just permanently turn the TVs off is also annoying, even if it’s on-brand for the far future corporate dystopia.

Thankfully, there are some redeeming qualities to Revenge of the Savage Planet, primarily the exploration. Each of the four planets is visually striking and environmentally distinct, starting with swamps and rainforests, dotted with canopy-like mushrooms and cliffs. Xephyr is a desert planet whose extensive dunes are intercut with rocky terrain, while Quasadron IX is a mix of volcanic lakes and a snow-covered mountain, with a hazardous cavern lying in wait. Zenithian Rift is perhaps the most appealing – its savannah stretches extensively towards the horizon, highlighting the incredible view distance.

There’s enough freedom to explore these landscapes, discover and devour Orange Goo to increase your max health and stamina, shoot up ore veins for Aluminium, Carbon and Silicon, or discover new outfit pieces to customize your character’s appearance. Challenges also await to upgrade your rank and unlock further Blueprints, not to mention collecting Printer Slurry to craft. Even tasks like filling out your Kindex through scans will unlock rewards.

Then there are the mysterious locations, which lead to game-show-like scenarios overseen by a shadowy, totally mysterious figure. Tools like the Power Hose, Magnetic Fork and Remote Drone Controller facilitate intriguing platforming and puzzle-solving scenarios as you link electrical circuits in the environment, extend or retract metal barriers, and navigate tight spaces while avoiding laser wires. Home decoration is also present and a decent distraction, if only for the different unique animations.

As for the creatures, some are functionally similar across each planet – a hapless, easy-to-capture Raccocco is more or less the same as the hapless Puffer Fox on Xephyr. Nevertheless, there are some standouts, from the teleporting, dramatic Vaperon to the aggressive Wardrill.

"The Power Hose does let you mix things up, like covering enemies in green goo and igniting them, stunning flying foes with water for easier capture, or spraying electric goo to fry a crowd of angry Wardrills."

Capturing certain kinds will benefit you through research and upgrades, which means scanning and targeting weak points. There’s a solid catch ’em-all loop, even if the same humor pervades their descriptions and designs. Keep an eye out for the Tatushkey, which screams in a high-pitched non-stop manner before you kill it and try with utter futility to laugh.

It’s all enough to liven up the narrative quests without bogging you down. Some planets figure more prominently than others in the runtime, but chasing a giant worm across Xephyr, leading to a battle in the underground caverns, and ascending Quasadron IX’s peak by grappling and grinding across energy beams can be fun.

While the plethora of optional upgrades and collectables is fine, few scenarios really mandate owning them. Upgrading the Proton Tether to grapple anywhere and not just on specific points sounds nice but it’s ultimately unnecessary unless you’re returning to places for full completion. At the very least, the controls are responsive, barring some edge-case scenarios where my character wouldn’t properly grab or clamber on some ledges.

Combat is a somewhat mixed scenario. The Blaster’s Charge Shot is potent and augments let it bounce around, but it’s otherwise such a rudimentary weapon. I really didn’t like my movement slowing down on charging or the temporary pause after unleashing a Charge Shot, which often felt like the only way to handle tougher foes.

The Power Hose does let you mix things up, like covering enemies in green goo and igniting them, stunning flying foes with water for easier capture, or spraying electric goo to fry a crowd of angry Wardrills. The boss fights are also enjoyable if rarely challenging (at least on the standard difficulty), with mechanics testing your knowledge of recently acquired tools.

"Between the average combat and solid platforming, Revenge of the Savage Planet offers a solid adventure for those who can tolerate the humor."

By the 10.5-hour mark, I already wrapped up two major narrative threads. The third and final still requires scanning and crafting two more parts, bringing the overall “story” to about 12 hours. You could easily extend this with the amount of optional content available.

Revenge of the Savage Planet is a strange experience. As much disdain as I had for the satire that didn’t offer much beyond the so-called biting commentary and witticisms seen and heard hundreds of times over, I did enjoy getting lost on each planet, exploring nooks and crannies for potential upgrades, and scanning everything to see if any of the descriptions could make me laugh. Between the average combat and solid platforming, it offers a decent adventure for those who can tolerate the humor.

Between id Software's highly-anticipated DOOM prequel and FromSoftware's epic co-op rogue-like, players are spoiled for choice in May.

If you’re already reeling from all the games in April, May looks even more unrelenting. Between the one first-person shooter that everyone is dying to play, there are indie platformers, action-adventure titles, that one rogue-like action RPG everyone else is itching to play, and even some Gundam, for good measure. Check out 14 of the biggest games launching in May 2025.

The Midnight Walk

A claymation adventure with stop-motion visuals, unfolding in a dark fantasy world where you must protect a lantern being and its flame from monsters in the dark – say what you will, but The Midnight Walk offers a solid premise. Offering five tales of tense chases, puzzle solving, stealth and simply awe-inspiring visuals, The Midnight Walk launches on May 8th for PS5, PC, PlayStation VR2 and SteamVR.

Spirit of the North 2

Following the underrated original, Spirit of the North 2 again sees players venturing through a gorgeous open world as a fox. Your goal is to cleanse the guardians and defeat Grimnir, a dark shaman, but each biome promises extensive secrets, including powerful runes and abilities. For those seeking a more laidback adventure, Spirit of the North 2 launches on May 8th for Xbox Series X/S, PC and PS5.

The Precinct

Remember American Fugitive, which offered an old-school GTA-like experience? The Precinct is from the same studio, but this time, you’re a police officer in Averno City, upholding the law. It’s an intriguing twist, as tasks range from ticketing vehicles to pursuing suspects in high-speed chases. With extensive degrees of crime, the ability to call for backup, and a living sandbox, The Precinct may live up to its inspiration when it launches on May 13th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

DOOM: The Dark Ages

Perhaps the month’s biggest release, DOOM: The Dark Ages is id Software’s largest campaign yet, packed with new weapons, tools, enemies (including the cosmic horror variety), and mechanics. Between the sandbox nature of some levels, oodles of secrets, heavier story focus with sleek cutscenes, more extensive difficulty options, and the incredible gameplay loop, it could end up an all-timer. The Dark Ages begin on May 15th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC alongside Game Pass.

RoadCraft

After Expeditions: A MudRunner Game, Saber Interactive is taking the franchise in a different direction with RoadCraft. As part of a disaster recovery company with heavy machinery, your job is to repair bridges and roads, remove debris, and much more to effectively save the day. There are over 40 vehicles to operate and eight maps available, but best of all, you can haplessly coordinate with up to three other players. RoadCraft arrives on May 20th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Battle Destiny Remastered

Gundam games can be hit or miss, but you can’t deny the sheer thrill of not knowing what’s cooking next. Bandai Namco’s next release is actually a remaster of the Japan-only PS Vita title, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny, with high-res visuals, difficulty adjustments, new control settings, and a revamped UI. However, the basic gameplay remains the same as players complete missions based on the anime, partaking in high-octane battles, and unlocking new suits. It’s out on May 22nd for PC and Nintendo Switch.

Blades of Fire

With Souls-like mechanics, a massive fantasy world to explore, and in-depth blacksmithing mechanics, Blades of Fire is proving more than just a spiritual successor to Severance: Blade of Darkness. Available on May 22nd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, players control Aran, who ventures through the world, battling the forces of Queen Nerea to end her tyranny. This requires forging one’s own weapons, carefully tempering stats to fit your preferred play style, unlocking new recipes, and using the right tools against specific enemies.

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny

After Onimusha: Warlords returned from the dead in all its HD glory, it’s now the sequel’s turn. Jubei’s journey through Feudal Japan will retain the same level of challenge when it arrives on May 23rd for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. However, you can up the difficulty further with Hell Mode, where a single hit kills. For the more quality of life-minded, you can now access various mini-games from the beginning; auto-save is supported; and you can now control when Onimusha form is activated.

Deliver At All Costs

Even without Konami publishing it, Deliver At All Costs looks like a delightfully chaotic action title with an incredible atmosphere. You play as a delivery driver, Winston Green, transporting all kinds of bizarre packages (including a bomb) by any means necessary. Pilot various vehicles or travel on foot, tear through fully destructible streets and escape angry citizens across three Acts in 1959. Deliver At All Costs is available on May 22nd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC and will also be free on the Epic Games Store for a week.

Elden Ring Nightreign

Few developers could pivot from an immensely successful open-world Souls-like action RPG into a spin-off with battle royale and rogue-like mechanics, but this is FromSoftware. Nightreign sees you venturing into Limveld, an alternate dimension version of Limgrave. After three days and three nights. And facing multiple bosses. And dealing with a moving ring of death. Even if it’s not an offline experience, it’s still unmistakably FromSoft and promises plenty of hardcore Souls-like action when it launches on May 30th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC.

Revenge of the Savage Planet

As a sequel to Journey to the Savage Planet, your purpose is simple: Take revenge on the greedy corporate heads. There are multiple planets to explore this time with numerous locations, flora, fauna, and more, and co-op is fully supported for another player. With new gear and extensive exploration options, Revenge of the Savage Planet looks to expand on everything that made the original so great. It’s out on May 8th for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC.

F1 25

It wouldn’t be a year without the usual slate of yearly EA titles, and F1 25 from Codemasters is no exception. The jury is out on how everything will feel, especially after last year’s divisive handling changes, but Braking Point returns with more player agency and drama, and My Team 2.0 promises new Owner Perks for greater specialization. F1 25 launches on May 30th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, so there’s plenty of time to learn more.

JDM: Japanese Drift Master

If Tokyo Xtreme Racer wasn’t enough, JDM: Japanese Drift Master may be the ticket. Launching on May 21st for PC, it depicts Japan’s street racing culture with an extensive open world to explore (dynamic weather and day/night cycles included), extensive customization of real-world brand cars, and, of course, plenty of drifting. There’s even a story depicted through manga with over 40 events.

Sonic Rumble

The good news: Sonic is getting a new game. The worrying news: It’s a party battle royale title developed with Rovio of Angry Birds fame. For now, the visuals look bright and appealing with up to 32 players partaking in modes like Co-Op Battles to fight the Death Egg Robot or Run Battles with the classic Sonic mechanics. There’s potential, but we’ll see how it pans out when it launches on May 8th for iOS, Android, and PC.

A new trailer highlights the various planetary hazards players must deal with. A gameplay reveal is also slated for December 17th.

Revenge of the Savage Planet, a sequel to 2020’s Journey to the Savage Planet, will launch in May 2025. Raccoon Logic announced this during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted while offering a new trailer. Check it out below, though a gameplay reveal is coming on December 17th.

The story focuses on Martin Tweed, CEO of Kindred Aerospace, waging war against Alta Interglobal CEO Gunther Harrison. After being left on an abandoned planet by the latter, players must explore, scavenge, scan, and ultimately survive. Amidst all this, you’ll utilize three types of goo, battle bosses (including the non-corporate kind), customize your living space, and capture creatures.

However, it’s only the beginning since there are four hostile planets to explore. Like the first game, there’s also co-op with split-screen and local play alongside crossplay for the first time.

Revenge of the Savage Planet is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Besides its digital launch, it’s also getting a Day One Edition physical release on consoles, which offers the “Hot Wizz” spacesuit as a bonus.

After Journey to the Savage Planet developer Typhoon Studios was shut down in 2021, the future of the new IP looked cloudy, but with the studio reforming later that year and amidst recent reports, the situation has looked more optimist. Now, a sequel has been officially announced. Announced during the Gamescom Opening Night Live pre-show, developer Raccoon Logic unveiled Revenge of the Savage Planet.

Touting the same absurd humour of its predecessor, Revenge of the Savage Planet will see players embarking on another adventure on a hostile alien planet. In addition to being able to play through the new campaign solo, players will now also have the option to play it in online co-op and splitscreen. Cross-play will be supported, and there won’t be any DRM or microtransactions.

A full gameplay reveal is scheduled for the Xbox Gamescom stream tomorrow, on August 21, so stay tuned for more details in the coming days.

The game will allegedly be titled Revenge of the Savage Planet, and seems to be in the works under the codename Project Lodestar.

Typhoon Studios and 505 Games’ acclaimed sci-fi action-adventure title Journey to the Savage Planet seems to have a sequel in the works. The game enjoyed critical acclaim but was unable to make a similar commercial impact, though it seems its development team, which reformed as Raccoon Logic shortly after its closure in 2021, has a follow-up in the works.

Caught by MP1st, a trademark registration for a game called Revenge of the Savage Planet was filed with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office earlier this year. That is in addition to a casting call made on Actors Access for a game under the codename Project Lodestar, which, according to the casting call, is “a follow-up to Journey to the Savage Planet“.

The role itself was for “a sci-fi formally dressed spokesperson”, while the casting call also mentioned roles for other characters with names such as Slappi Xtreme Smartbot, Smile Syndicate, and Chisler Financial, all of which sounds very Savage Planet. Interestingly the most recent casting call for the project came in March, which suggests that work on it has continued at a steady pace behind the scenes.

How long it’ll be before the sequel gets officially announced is anyone’s guess, but fans of the original definitely seem to have that to look forward to.
