“Reaching this milestone is an incredibly meaningful moment for the Lies of P team,” said a representative for NEOWIZ in a press release. “The enthusiasm and passion the global community has shown for this title continues to inspire us, and we’re grateful to see players around the world discover and embrace our dark, reimagined take on Pinocchio’s story.”

It is worth noting that, aside from this announcement, NEOWIZ has been quiet about Lies of P, likely since the team behind the original is hard at work on the sequel. Back in November, game director Choi Ji-won spoke about how work was progressing on Lies of P 2, and how the studio wants to make sure that it doesn’t disappoint its fans.

“You can expect the most fun that we can achieve within the game,” he said before noting that fans should “please stay tuned for it; we are working really hard, and I will not disappoint you at all.”

In the meantime, NEOWIZ co-CEO Sean Kim has spoken about the publisher’s larger ambitions. In an interview from back in January, Kim spoke about wanting to introduce more “successful IP” over the next five or ten years, while work on the Lies of P franchise continues.

“Our goal is to consistently introduce successful IP that fans will continue to support and look forward to over the long haul, even five or ten years down the line,” said Kim. “Currently, we are internally developing more than five new PC and console titles, while also focusing on discovering global IP through collaborations with Western studios such as Zakazane and Wolfeye. We plan to continue investing in strong partners worldwide as we move forward.”

“Our lineup of third-party indie titles, many of them developed by talented local Korean teams, is also worth highlighting. In particular, Shape of Dreams and SANABI recently achieved both critical and commercial success.”

Kim has also spoken about how the team behind Lies of P 2 is “fully focused” on making the game. “At this point, there is nothing specific we can share in detail,” he said back in January. “I can tell you that the team at Round8 Studio is excited about their work and fully focused on development.”

“With the Lies of P DLC receiving further recognition through its various award wins and director Choi Ji-Won expressing strong confidence in the studio’s next project, we hope fans will continue to look forward to what’s ahead as much as we are.”

A representative from NEOWIZ said it’s “too early” to discuss the project’s progress, but Round8 is aiming for a “higher level of perfection.” On top of hiring level designers, scenario planners and other employees, it’s brought on Jin Seung-ho (of Verdant Stars fame) as hiring director and Lee Sang-gyun (Mabinogi Heroes/Vindictus) as director. Given how successful Lies of P turned out, there are a lot of expectations from this next title.

It may be a while before it’s revealed, so stay tuned for updates. In the meantime, Lies of P will receive its first DLC in Q1 2025. We’ve yet to know the official title, setting, or story, but you can check out some of the latest artwork and listen to a track here.

While the King of Puppets is included at the end, we’re seeing several bosses for the first time. There are mutated creatures wielding heavy weapons, sleek-looking puppets that can impale P and even a massive foe that moves with incredible speed. Each fights uniquely, so you’ll need to adjust your strategy accordingly.

Lies of P launches on September 19th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC. Early access is included with the Deluxe Edition and starts September 16th. Head here for more details on pre-load timings.

PlayStation Game Size on Twitter notes that the PS4 version is 29.107 GB, while the PS5 version is 34.707 GB. It’s version 1.01/1.001.000, which seems to imply that the day one patch is included. Of course, the installation size remains to be seen.

Those who purchased the Deluxe Edition can allegedly start pre-loading on September 14th, midnight (likely regional time), while early access begins on September 16th. As for the Standard Edition, pre-loads reportedly start on September 17th, midnight, while the game releases on September 19th.

Presented as a journal written by an unknown individual, we learn that puppets have become deeply ingrained into Krat, the city players explore. A deadly disease also breaks out, mutating those it affects, and before long, the puppets mysteriously go berserk. There’s seemingly no stopping them until Geppetto proposes a solution (spoiler: it’s P).

How P can resolve the crisis affecting Krat remains to be seen, but he’ll follow a mysterious voice while searching for Geppetto. Throughout the story, there are many opportunities to lie, which can affect the ending. There are three endings, but the best remains to be seen.

There’s Deus Ex Machina, which plants two explosive mines into the ground, which becomes three that deal more damage when upgraded. Aegis is a buckler that blocks hits but can unleash an explosive counter-hit after upgrading.

Falcon Eyes will probably be a popular option, as it fires shots that stick to enemies and detonate after a brief period. When upgraded, you can use it after dodging and firing two shots consecutively. Fulminis unleashes an electric blast when charged, but upon upgrading, it can electrocute enemies while charging.

There are two showcased – the first is the Shichishitō or Seven-Branched Sword, a heavy weapon. It’s a two-handed sword that causes you to roll and attack slower. However, it can pulse with electricity to deal more damage and has a special move that creates a wave of energy. The second weapon is, well, a giant wrench. Hey, if it works, it works.

The new boss, King of Puppets, is a massive foe with extensive reach. It can launch projectiles that land and detonate after a set period and a large area of effect blast. Even if you’re overwhelmed, it’s possible to summon NPCs to help out (no co-op, sadly).

The trailer gives us glimpses of traversal and exploration, but most importantly, it also gives us a solid look at the action-packed Souls-styled gameplay for the upcoming RPG. The trailer shows us a variety of different weapons, as well as offensive and defensive options against regular enemies and boss fights alike.

Lies of P, announced back in 2021, is heavily inspired by the classic story of Pinocchio. Set in the ruined city of Krat, the game features hostile automatons that players will have to fight their way through.

The game takes quite a bit of influence from FromSoftware’s titles, such as the Souls-styled combat, and the choice of a gothic horror aesthetic in the vein of Bloodborne.

Lies of P is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S this year.

In an interview with GamingBolt, the development team revealed that the difference was “practically meaningless.” “Since we’re making progress in optimization on our end, the difference between the two models is practically meaningless to us.” However, one feature that has made a difference for both versions is upcoming support for AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution.

When asked how it could help game developers, Neowiz responded, “Super Resolution has been of great help in development as it can further increase the graphic quality. We hope that this kind of solution will continue to be updated and evolved in the future.”

In the same interview, Neowiz confirmed that Lies of P would have two graphics modes – Performance and Quality. The former runs at 1440p/60 FPS while the latter offers native 4K at 30 FPS, though the developer is working on native 4K/60 FPS. It currently doesn’t have a release date so stay tuned for our full interview in the meantime.

On PS5 and Xbox Series X, Lies of P will feature a Quality Mode and a Performance Mode. While Performance Mode will see the game running at 1440p and 60 FPS, Quality Mode is currently offering native 4K visuals at 30 FPS gameplay, though the developers say they are “working towards the goal of” native 4K and 60 FPS in Quality Mode. There’s no word yet on what to expect from the Xbox Series S version.

Lies of P is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but the game doesn’t yet have a release date. Our full interview with its developers will be live soon, so stay tuned for that.
