An update on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, a "new look" at The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, and "world premieres" are also confirmed.

Microsoft has announced a new Partner Preview showcase for March 26th at 10 AM PT. It’s focusing on titles from third-party publishers and developers, including Yakuza developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Stranger Than Heaven.

It will receive an “in-depth look,” which could finally provide more details on its gameplay and story. Other titles like The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will receive “new looks”, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is getting an “update.” Perhaps we’ll finally learn when the release windows for its story expansions and multiplayer, nearly 1.5 years after its original launch.

Microsoft also promises new reveals, “world premieres”, and even Game Pass announcements, so there’s plenty to look forward to. Deep dives and behind-the-scenes details will also be revealed for “select titles” on Xbox Wire, in case you want to dig even deeper into their development.

Stranger Than Heaven doesn’t have a release date, but Sega previously said it would launch during or after fiscal year 2027. Persona 4 Revival is slated for the same window, and given how it was announced during last year’s Xbox Games Showcase, what are the odds that it appears during the Partner Preview?

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is also intriguing because Owlcat Games previously confirmed closed beta access for those who pre-purchased the Miller’s Pack for $79.99. Perhaps it will finally reveal plans for the same. As always, stay tuned for more details and live coverage this Thursday.

GSC Game World's survival shooter might not have been at its best last year, but things have changed since then. Is STALKER 2 finally the experience we waited so many years for?

The fact that STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl had a bad start when it was released last year is kind of old news at this point. The A-Life system caused more problems than the thrills it was meant to bring, while bugs, glitches, and performance issues marred what should have been a very rewarding experience.

However, developer GSC’s struggles to get the game to its final release were well-documented, earning the studio some goodwill which it has worked hard to retain with seven major patches to its flagship title and a PS5 port that brings some great exclusive additions to the game.

We’ve previously commented on how the first five patches felt like an evolution of the game into a version of itself that not only looked to fix problems, but also improve strengths. Another two updates have since arrived, bringing their own special additions to The Zone. Which begs the question: Is STALKER 2 finally fixed and complete?

Join us and find out!

Unlocking the Night

Things could get very dark in The Zone once the sun sets, and exploring at night was quite a sore point in the game. That was until the Night of the Hunter Update that dropped in September 2025, bringing fixes and improvements while giving players a very valuable tool to aid their nighttime strolls.

The Night Vision Goggles gave any aspiring STALKER the ability to see better at night and even use their weapons quite effectively, thanks to an attached laser pointer and an aiming offset feature that’s quite helpful when you have it running. What’s more, the quest to acquire them sent you back to one of the cast’s more memorable characters.

But the mere addition of the NVGs alone isn’t how GSC managed to make this update count. It was the manner in which they addressed a problem with the world’s design while also bringing an important layer of immersion to the gameplay loop on offer. That’s because going out at night meant more ways to engage with The Zone and its A-Life system, a potent combination made even more unpredictable by the darkness and its dangers.

It’s the perfect showcase of how GSC managed to up the ante with its updates, adding content that brings meaningful innovations to the core experience on offer in STALKER 2. If you thought hunting at night was going to give you an advantage, the fact that other Stalkers could be using night vision to hunt you down should be a good enough reason to be as cautious as you can if you do step out into the Zone’s shadows.

But again, The Zone is meant to be dangerous and not conducive to casual strolls. The Night Vision Goggles only ensure that you’re not tripping over your own feet in the dark. They were a clever way to expand a dangerous playing field by giving it an entirely different and explorable time of day with one simple change.

Should GSC have delayed STALKER 2 a little more and brought all of the features it has added since the game’s release to the table in one go? Perhaps yes, but STALKER 2’s troubled development cycle might not have been entirely under the studio’s control. However, in the year that has passed, has it done enough to bring the game up to scratch? Certainly yes!

The Expedition update is the one that has brought STALKER 2 very close to its final form, and done so with style.

The Definitive STALKER Experience

The seventh major update to STALKER 2, the Expedition update, brought several noteworthy additions to the game. But there was a crucial difference this time around. The new update brought more new content to the game alongside a few fixes, a showcase that STALKER 2 is now as close as it can be to the original vision that GSC had for it.

Let’s start with the titular expeditions. It brings changes to the exploration loop that add a layer of authenticity to exploring The Zone, in our honest opinion. By relegating saving to camps that you need to visit, along with the ability to get a good grip on what the newly added Master difficulty setting would bring on an easier mode, it’s the perfect excuse for a new playthrough with all of the bells and whistles from previous updates.

However, Expedition mode is not the only brilliant addition to the game. There’s also the fact that improved stealth is now an option when you’re out in the Zone, a change that has been very welcome among critics and players alike. GSC hasn’t reinvented the wheel here, merely nerfing your enemies’ ability to see you when you use tall grass or dense vegetation to hide your approach.

Many have since commented that taking enemies on in environments like the swamps or corn fields, where it felt unfair for enemies to fire bullets right into you, despite not being able to see you. It was quite jarring and ruined the immersion, while also serving as an annoying reminder that not everything in The Zone worked as intended.

But now, hunting and well, stalking, your enemies from the shadows is a viable playstyle, allowing players to bring a layer of tactical strategy to the table. It’s a change that was definitely warranted, and GSC’s execution in this regard must be commended. It’s one of the details that’s going to make STALKER 2 feel like a very different game from the one that we played last year. And there’s more.

The A-Life system had its lows, but the January 2025 update did a lot to make The Zone work almost independently of the player. It’s made survival in its post-apocalyptic world quite a challenge every time you venture out, but it’s also a great way to make every time you leave the safety of a hideout as unpredictable as you could possibly want.

However, even as it brought a great version of the game to the PS5, GSC has managed to bring a major change to the A-Life system that could make the game’s open world a very different place. That’s because the many factions vying for control over their little pockets of it will now be in active conflict with each other.

That means the place you just left might not be the place you return to a while later if the faction controlling it failed to defend it from its invaders. The mutants are a major part of the chaos, defending their nests with territorial ferocity. GSC effectively made The Zone a living, breathing entity that’s utterly apathetic to the life within its confines, while its causality sets events in motion whether you’re ready for them or not.

It’s almost like the A-Life system feels complete after its January 2025 revival, and now makes every minute in The Zone feel like things could go in an entirely different direction than what you’re expecting in a matter of moments. It’s a great way to finally achieve a hallmark of some of the best open worlds out there, and a testament to GSC’s commitment to rewarding its players for their support and loyalty over a few troubled years.

Of course, the addition of more anomalies after the fire-based one in the Night Hunter update, along with little details like a tremor affecting your aim after too many energy drinks, and further balancing of the sprint and stamina systems to make the entire experience more authentic and immersive, have also helped. STALKER 2 finally feels like the game it was always meant to be.

Taking Things Further

Of course, all of these fixes and additions might have been more than sufficient to draw new players to the game’s recently released PS5 version. It was a section of STALKER 2’s audience that watched from the sidelines as GSC brought the game back to life from the jaws of obscurity.

But by utilizing the DualSense’s unique feature set, GSC has managed to make each weapon feel distinct thanks to the adaptive triggers, while the controller’s haptics are being put to good use to make each distinct surface and terrain in The Zone stick out. The in-built speaker handles all of your radio communications, while the visuals (especially on the PS5 Pro) shine through.

It’s all a showcase of the effort that GSC has put into bringing STALKER 2 up to scratch. But in the process, it feels like the game is now even more than what it could have been last year. We’d say that this survival shooter is more than merely fixed.

It’s gone beyond mere repairs to make a few modifications that have made its journey more than just a redemption arc. It’s now a success story and a beacon for other titles that do not perform well when they are launched but manage to turn things around in the aftermath.

STALKER 2 now joins the likes of titles like No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 as a redemption story worth knowing, and is now a game that we’d recommend diving into, irrespective of whether you played it before or are an absolute newbie to the franchise.

In a recent interview, the developers behind S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 also confirmed the performance and resolution targets for the PS5.

With the PS5 release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, developer GSC Game World has revealed quite a few details about the upcoming console release. In an interview with WCCFTech, communications director Zakhar Bocharov and technical director Ievgen Kulyk have confirmed that the PS5 Pro version of the open-world shooter targets graphical settings similar to the PC version’s High preset.

While noting that optimising a game for consoles is an entirely different beast than doing so for PC, Bocharov noted that the PS5 Pro version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl isn’t quite 100 percent the same as the PC version’s High settings. Rather, the console release is “leaning towards” the preset.

“Console optimization is a bit more complex and specific than just porting over PC presets,” said Bocharov. “It’s hard to answer the question 100% precisely, but the PS5 Pro version is definitely leaning towards PC High settings. I think comparison videos between platforms are just a matter of time, so you’ll be able to form your own opinion.”

Kulyk also provided more comprehensive details about the kind of resolution and performance targets that the studio is aiming for across the PS5 and PS5 Pro versions of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. He noted that the base PS5 runs the title at 2K / 60 FPS in performance mode, while quality mode aims for 4K / 30 FPS. The PS5 Pro, on the other hand, targets 4K / 60 FPS in performance mode, and 4K / 30 FPS with a higher level of detail in the quality mode. “We don’t use PSSR — only UE5-integrated TSR,” he explained.

Elsewhere in the interview, Bocharov also reflected on the full year since the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl on PC and Xbox Series X/S, and how the title has seen quite a bit of success as well as post-launch support in the form of seven major updates and a host of smaller ones focused on new content and performance improvements. He also noted that the studio plans to keep working on the title for the time being.

“We’ll strive to be as objective as possible,” said Bocharov of GSC Game World’s take on the success of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. “One million copies sold in under three days and several million players through Game Pass on PC and Xbox can undoubtedly be considered successful figures. Over the year, the game received 7 major updates — and far more smaller ones — which not only improved performance but also added new content.

“The game is now significantly different from what it was at launch. Updates are a complex matter. In the world of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., they could probably go on forever, much like the pursuit of perfection. Nevertheless, they will continue forward on.”

Earlier today, the studio had also taken to social media to thank Xbox for all the support it had provided for the studio during the title’s first year out. In the post, the developers also noted that, while the game might be coming down from Game Pass, the relationship between GSC Game World and Xbox will remain strong.

GSC Game World's ambitious survival sandbox is out soon for PS5. Here's what you need to know, new and old, to survive in the Zone.

From the depths of cancellation to emerging as one of the most successful games in the franchise, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl has had a long journey since releasing last year for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It’s finally coming to PS5 on November 20th, but it’s far from the same game as last year. What’s changed, and if you’re new to the franchise, what makes it worth playing? Join us as we dive into everything you should know before buying.

What is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and Why Should You Care?

As the latest title in the cult classic S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’s very existence has been tumultuous, to say the least. Announced in 2010, cancelled in 2012 (with the developer dissolving in 2011), revived in 2018, first gameplay in 2021, and numerous delays to follow due to real-life tragedy – yet the developer persevered and finally released Heart of Chornobyl in 2025.

So why should you care about it? Because the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is a post-apocalyptic sandbox experience of unpredictability, where an ordinary quest could break down into countless unforgettable encounters. It’s realistic and punishing, but discovering new things, be it Mutants devouring human corpses, Anomalies warping the very fabric of reality, or just the gorgeous radiation-soaked landscape of the Exclusion Zone.

Walk Through the Zone

How does a typical day in the Zone unfold? Well, that’s up to you. After selecting which armor, weapons, and items are needed, you’ll venture out and explore. There are quests to track and different vendors to interact with. Other S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s roam the Zone, who can either be friendly or hostile. Avoiding radiation sickness is as important as managing your hunger and getting enough sleep. Maybe you’ll get lucky and find some Artifacts that you can sell. Then again, you may also run into…

Anomalous Behavior

Imagine walking around and suddenly being thrown back, losing a hefty amount of health in the process. If you weren’t paying attention, the shiny spheres that were responsible may have escaped notice. These are one of several Anomalies present through the Zone – unexplained phenomena with different effects. Acid pools, electric orbs, fire jets – these are the most obvious ones, but even seemingly harmless things like bubbles could burst and poison you. You’ll learn to identify each Anomaly, perhaps throwing some bolts around to sense their presence or disrupt them, and maybe even use them against any hostiles.

Factions

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has plenty of threats. Bandits wander around, eager to start trouble; Loners are other S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s, which gives more leeway in dealing with them; various military groups like the Corps, Duty, and Freedom; and more. Several factions differ wildly in terms of ideals, so depending on who you side with, there will be different outcomes (and consequences).

Mutants

You’ll also have to contend with Mutants – monstrosities with different abilities and a unified desire to see you dead. There are the Bloodsuckers, capable of turning invisible and inflicting bleed; Poltergeists, also invisible and who throw environmental objects; mutated versions of boars, rodents, and dogs; and perhaps most terrifying, the Bayun, who can mimic human sounds. Dealing with them can become a huge hassle, but it’s yet another component to surviving in the Zone.

Weapons, New and Old

Thankfully, there’s an extensive range of weapons available to help with that. AKs, ARs, sniper rifles, pistols, SMGs, gauss guns, shotguns, explosives – take your pick, with tons of mods available to tune their performance. New weapons have also been added since launch, including the unique Honta’s “Dahunka”, the Night Stalker pistol, the Three Line Rifle, and the Kora 1911 pistol.

NVGs and Stealth Improvements

The Night Stalker isn’t the only tool for facilitating stealthier players. The latest update also added four types of Night Vision Goggles, allowing you to prowl through the darkness. Couple that with the fact that enemy AI has been improved – meaning fewer chances of being detected immediately – and it makes a stealthier approach far more viable than at launch.

The Zone’s Size

64 square kilometers. 20 different regions. A seamless interconnected map that’s almost completely open from the outset, limited only by your survival skills (and smarts). The Zone is a world unto itself, seemingly existing outside of normal space, with its own ecosystem and ecology. Knowing that balance and how various elements play off of each other is the key to survival, as is understanding arguably the biggest appeal of the series: A-Life.

A-Life 2.0

A-Life has been a staple of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. since Shadow of Chornobyl and contributed hugely to their replay value. It essentially simulates all AI in the Zone independent of the player, though the system further breaks down into everything that you see in proximity versus whatever is happening in the background. With S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, GSC Game World took it to the next level with A-Life 2.0, a system where “countless events and encounters” would happen. There’s only one problem: It didn’t work at launch, to the point where players found the marketing to be highly misleading.

Fortunately, through multiplayer updates, the development team has fully implemented A-Life 2.0. Hostile NPCs will actually initiate battles to capture more territory and fend off mutants, and there’s far more variety in the types of groups encountered. It all contributes to making the Zone feel more alive and interesting.

Upcoming Features

Even with all these features for day one PS5 players, what about those who come after? Fortunately, GSC Game World has an ongoing roadmap with further updates to the UI, new missions, and an extended day/night cycle. Some of those are live now, including Master Difficulty, Expedition Mode (where you can only save at certain points), and much more.

Multiple Endings and Playtime

As you’ve probably guessed from the existence of multiple factions, there are different endings to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’s story. We won’t spoil any of them, but reaching them will require about 36 hours for the story alone on average, according to HowLongToBeat. Pursuing side activities bumps that up to about 70 hours, while completing everything could mean over 130 hours of gameplay. Whatever your commitment level may be, it’s a long, arduous journey.

Performance Improvements Since Launch

The first day of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’s launch was all over the place in terms of performance, even with a massive day-one patch. Things have improved significantly ever since – heck, the September update fixed numerous freezes and crashes while offering further optimizations. Few ports survive first impact with a new console, though, but at the very least, you shouldn’t see anywhere near as many stutters and drops as launch day.

DualSense Support

As with every former Xbox console exclusive coming to PS5, the question is: What exclusive features can you look forward to? Tempest 3D Audio for directional sounds is great, but DualSense is the main draw with haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support, right down to different trigger resistance depending on the weapon (and their wear and tear). However, the highlight is probably the touchpad for gestures, including playing the guitar – perfect for adding to campfire conversations.

PS5 Pro support

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 offers two modes on the base PS5 – 4K/30 FPS in Quality and 2K/60 FPS in Performance, though it’s aiming for 4K/60 FPS in the latter by launch. However, PS5 Pro players will see improved visuals, as revealed to Tech Radar Gaming by technical producer Yevhenii Kulyk. The shadow quality, VFX shading quality, and volumetrics, including clouds and lighting, have been tweaked. But that’s not all, as the official features trailer confirmed improvements to global illumination, reflections and shadow resolution as well.

Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate Editions

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has three editions to choose from. The Standard retails for $60 and includes only the base game, while the Deluxe Edition is for $80 and includes a bonus side quest, a digital artbook and soundtrack app, and the Deluxe Weapons and Suit Pack (which packs six weapons and three suits). The Ultimate Edition includes everything in the Deluxe Edition but also adds four more weapons and an Exoskeleton alongside the Season Pass for two upcoming story expansions. All this for $109.99.

With this feature, we take a look at S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on the PS5 and comparing its visual presentation and performance against the Xbox Series X and PC.

GSC Game World’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is considered as one of the best games in its class, thanks to its fantastic depiction of a post-apocalypse, complete with the brutality and chaos that comes with it. Last year’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl was a much-awaited sequel that made fans endure more than a couple of delays, but the end product was nothing short of spectacular.

It’s been a year since the game originally came out, and it stands tall as one of the best-looking games on the market. Keeping in line with originally Xbox-exclusive releases making their way to Sony platforms, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is finally available on PS5. Naturally, that raises the question: how does it perform, and how does it stack up against its direct competitor, the Xbox Series X, as well as a decently powered PC?

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is built on Unreal Engine 5, the latest version of Epic’s widely used development tech. It has a competent rendering stack that puts together intelligent world streaming systems, ray-traced GI, robust NPC generation systems, and photogrammetry options together to create a framework that’s truly unparalleled, although many games on it have struggled on the performance front.

Regardless, it’s a cross-platform engine at its core, so porting from one system to another (and to PC) isn’t as demanding as it would be with a platform-specific engine. As a result, there isn’t a stark difference between the different versions of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, just iterative upgrades and improvements from console to PC.

On PS5, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 benefits from a robust rendering pipeline that showcases the game at its best while maintaining stable performance. The same global illumination solution seen in previous versions is used here, ensuring both direct and indirect lighting remain accurate, while additional cinematic lights are introduced during cutscenes to highlight character expressions and add depth to key moments.

Texture quality is also great, with a high average polycount found across all assets in the environment. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 also makes use of photogrammetry to great effect, so the different materials on display look quite realistic. Asset density is also appropriately high, and the visual pop-in is minimal – making the world feel a lot more surreal.

This version closely resembles that of the Xbox Series X, and we can see comparable rendering resolutions across the board. Of course, that shouldn’t come as a surprise since both machines have similar architectures and power budgets. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any differences that you can spot.

Surprisingly, the PS5 can outperform the Xbox Series X by a small margin – and that’s evident in the environments. You can spot some increased foliage density or sharper shadows with lesser artifacting, so the asset density quality seems to be a tad bit higher on the PS5 than what Microsoft’s machine can achieve. But again, both of these versions have the same presentation in broad strokes.

To recap, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 recommends players have at least a Ryzen 7 5800X or equivalent CPU, 32 GB of RAM, and RTX 3070 Ti. For our testing purposes, we ran the game on a system comprising an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti, and 32 GB RAM which is quite a bit over what the game recommends for itself. We also installed the game on a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD to ensure storage performance wasn’t a limiting factor in our testing.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on PC presents us with a wide range of sliders that can be used to find the perfect balance between performance and graphical fidelity. The game offers options for upscaling with support for both AMD’s FSR 3, Nvidia’s DLSS, and Intel’s XeSS alongside frame generation options. For our tests, we knocked the settings all the way to Epic at a resolution of native 4K. DLSS upscaling was turned to Quality, which puts the internal rendering scale to 66 percent.

Compared to the PS5, the PC version pulls ahead slightly, with the PS5 release essentially serving as a close approximation of the PC’s High preset. In our tests, texture quality was consistently better on PC, with noticeably sharper assets across the various environments. World streaming also performed a bit better, resulting in fewer visible LOD pop-ins and swapping artifacts than on consoles.

Another noticeable upgrade lies in the game’s volumetric effects. Fog, smoke layers, and atmospheric scattering appear richer and more detailed on PC, particularly at sunrise or during the intense electrical storms that sweep across the Zone. These effects tend to get dialed down on the PS5,, but the Epic settings on PC allow them to shine brighter – resulting in a more solid post-processing pipeline.

When it comes to performance, all three versions have quite a few differences. On the PS5, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 offers both a Quality Mode which runs on a higher native resolution with all the graphical bells and whistles and a cap of 30fps, and secondly, there’s a performance Mode, which tones down a few knobs and bumps the frame rate to 60 FPS.

The 60 FPS mode is obviously the preferred way to play since the responsiveness does help in combat, and we are happy to report that it holds up well for the majority of gameplay scenarios – only showing drops during heavy combat encounters or occasionally sprinting across open fields. Quality Mode provides a more stable image and hovers around its target frame-rate a lot more – but it just doesn’t feel right in comparison to the sheer fluidity of the performance mode.

Comparing it to the Xbox Series X, it’s almost similar, with Microsoft’s machine exhibiting a similar performance profile. However, it does maintain slightly better stability in open regions. Frame dips are less frequent on the Series X, likely due to a combination of its marginally stronger GPU and the many post-launch patches that have improved and stabilized performance.

Back at launch on the PC, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was averaging anywhere between 40fps to 60fps when we turned up the settings to Ultra with 4K resolution and DLSS upscaling, and the major culprit for tanking the frame rate continues to be the post-processing effects like volumetrics and particle effects. It’s a graphically demanding game on the PC, and using an aggressive DLSS option or adaptive VSync might help in achieving a more stable 60fps result.

When comparing load times between the two consoles, starting a new game on PS5 takes roughly 10 seconds. That might not sound especially quick at first glance, but it’s still noticeably snappier than the Xbox Series X, which takes a bit longer to load into the game. As such, the PS5 edges ahead in this regard. This highlights the strengths of Sony’s hardware and its higher SSD I/O throughput, though there’s clearly room for further optimization on the Series X side.

Conclusion

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl stands tall as a technical and artistic showcase across every platform, but each version has its own identity – making it hard to choose one over another. The PS5 and Xbox Series X deliver visually rich experiences that capture the hidden beauty of the Exclusion Zone with minimal compromises.

When it was first released last year, we at GamingBolt absolutely loved it, awarding a superb 9/10. However, the game has been drastically improved over the last several months, with many patches fixing various balance issues, tightening up gameplay mechanics, and, most importantly, addressing A Life. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 now feels great to play regardless of which version you choose, and it easily stands as one of the best shooters of this generation. It delivers an intimidating world that makes every bit of progress feel earned. It’s hard, brutal, and challenging all at once, and that’s exactly why the gameplay loop feels so engaging—it keeps you on edge at all times and never lets up.

The PS5 edges ahead slightly in visuals and load times, and GSC Game World has also made good use of DualSense’s enhanced haptics to make the experience a lot more interactive – but performance isn’t nearly as stable as what Xbox Series X can offer. But both versions of the game remain the same in broad strokes, and are great choices nonetheless. Yet, the PC version remains the definitive way to experience the game on account of higher flexibility for adjusting the balance between fidelity and performance.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on the PS5 is a great conversion of what is one of the best post-apocalyptic experiences of recent memory. There may still be a few rough edges here and there, but GSC Game World has done a commendable job overall, and those who didn’t get a chance to play it at launch should definitely give it a try now. It’s in a much better state today, thanks to the numerous patches released over the past year.

Pushing survival into sensory overload, STALKER 2 on PS5 evolves the Zone with tension you don’t just see, but feel.

With the PS5 DualSense in hand, I trudge into Zalissya, STALKER 2’s first settlement of sorts, a tumbledown crossroad of dimly lit hangouts and sleeping quarters. The guards warn me to lower my weapon, and I’m happy to oblige. After scraping through my first night in the Zone, I’m already a little rattled. I didn’t play STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl on Xbox or PC last year, but with its core remaining largely identical on PS5, albeit with PS5-specific features and Update 1.7’s sweeping overhauls, I thought I’d have a rough idea of what to expect.

Hours earlier, before landing in Zalissya’s relative sanctuary, I’d been scaling the crumbling walls at the Zone’s perimeter; Dr. Hermann’s TOPAZ Scanner hoisted over my shoulder like a clunking rucksack. My mission was straightforward: find a spot to recharge the strange artifact that torched my apartment. Yet, here, creeping into the ink-black night, I got my first taste of the PS5’s unsettling immersiveness: as crunching gravel rolled through my fingertips, static radio comms cut through the DualSense’s speaker. Hostiles unknown knew of my presence already, and the 3D sound pinpointed a pair of troopers in the dark. I still wasn’t prepared, bullets whistled sharply overhead as pops of gunfire splashed across the marshland, the soundscape articulating clearly just how exposed I was.

"Visually, everything renders well on the base PS5, some asset and texture pop-in aside."

This is the moment when I realise STALKER 2 isn’t the same as it was on Xbox and PC. The PS5 version benefits from adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, gyro aiming, lightbar integration, touchpad gestures, and Tempest 3D Audio, and while this reads like a list, it’s also an embodiment of the Zone’s atmosphere redefined by hardware; GSC Game World are squeezing every ounce of sensory fidelity the PS5 can offer, and the result strikes a perfect match. STALKER 2, defined by immersion, on the PS5 that is built for it.

In Zalissya’s corden, time slows enough to absorb STALKER 2’s environmental texture, rusted steel, rotten wood, and weathered concrete characterise every structure while nature reclaims the rest, overgrowing pathways to abandoned out-buildings deemed too decrepit to inhabit. See, GSC Game World’s drive for authenticity goes beyond the Zone’s Soviet-era architecture to lifelike decay. Under the glow of dusk, Zalissya’s unhurried moments reveal the Zone’s odd and somber beauty, brutalist bus stops, monuments, and radio towers, once triumphant, are now emaciated by generations of radiation.

Visually, everything renders well on the base PS5, some asset and texture pop-in aside, while the PS5 Pro pushes fidelity further through denser shadow and reflection quality, volumetric fog, enhanced cloud rendering, and global illumination. If the Zone wasn’t so carnivorous, it’d be an ideal nature reserve.

"You must listen through suitable headphones, if you can. TV sound systems or the PlayStation Portal’s onboard speakers cannot do the game’s sonic ambience justice. "

Still, no matter the peril, I must hoof its wilds on foot. And, during expeditions I’m accompanied by Yaroslav Odrin’s ambient score, where longform tracks blend seamlessly with my Geiger counter’s crackle. Without melody or motif, Odrin’s music reflects the tension of my mood, its airy sounds feeling oppressive, wistful, or pensive, depending on the moment. It’s music that sounds like searching, apt for our protagonist Skif, who spends a good deal of time in the Zone looking for things.

Further: rustles, voices, growls, and more prick my ears from every direction, travelling across the breeze via the PS5’s Tempest 3D Audio. The forest’s audible ephemera demands near-consistent alertness. Despite brief moments of stillness, STALKER 2’s rich music and sound design never lets me settle. Instead, it’s a mechanism for emotional pacing.

Self-curation is an emblem of the open world experience, but never has sound gripped me in such a way as to dictate my pace. GSC advises the Zone is a landscape not to be rushed, but it’s the game’s audio which forces my stateliness. It’s like the more I tune into its frequency, the more it teaches me how to survive.

Bottom line: this is as immersive a soundscape as I’ve ever experienced. You must listen through suitable headphones, if you can. TV sound systems or the PlayStation Portal’s onboard speakers cannot do the game’s sonic ambience justice.

Also, I’d strongly recommend Ukrainian VO to support immersiveness, as English speakers with American accents feel misaligned with the setting. It’s a shame that Update 1.7’s new “Immersive Mode”, zero HUD combined with a wider FOV, lacks subtitles. It’s superb for wide-screen exploration otherwise, so it’d be welcome if GSC introduced the option for certain HUD elements and text to broaden its appeal.

"When searching a decrepit house, I hear commotion: a band of Stalkers are clashing with a pack of wild dogs outside."

Update 1.7, a content drop coinciding with PS5’s release, brings a suite of improvements, from systematic AI expansions, to stamina changes and inventory overhauls. Even set to the lowest difficulty, STALKER 2 is a challenging game, but through 1.7’s more realistic enemy behaviour, fights can feel fairer while still producing unexpected moments.

See, opponents now maintain a distance most optimal with their weapon, but will flank if you’re stationary. Their vision now worsens through vegetation, while any aggressor, human or otherwise, retreats when they realise their survival chances are dwindling. Territories are more hotly contested, with factions constantly fighting to expand control. 1.7’s updates, its enhancements, deepen STALKER 2’s already excellent emergent gameplay.

When searching a decrepit house, I hear commotion: a band of Stalkers are clashing with a pack of wild dogs outside. Peering through a window, I see one being mauled to death. Outside, I move to help but the Stalkers have regrouped elsewhere, so I finish the mongrels off myself.

Shortly after, still looking for the same lost shipment, I’m ambushed by bandits. Racing for cover I’m confronted by a lone Stalker; whether he’s investigating gunshots or randomly stumbling into the crossfire, him muttering “I don’t like the sound of this” through his gas mask convinces me he’s friendly, and together we return fire. We push the bandits back, and their sole survivor retreats towards a pockmark of collapsing brickwork. “He’s hiding now”, my ally suggests. So, we snuff him out, I take one side, he goes the other. Executing on sight, my guy loots the bandit corpse before I have a chance. We exchange a few words, then go our separate ways.

"STALKER 2 on PS5 delivers the most immersive and reactive version of the Zone to date."

These emergent moments demonstrate where the game’s latest updates transcend being a simple list of features and bug fixes. Much like the PS5-specific additions, my experience is of hardware and game code coalescing to organic, reactive, sometimes unforeseen experiences.

They work on the minutiae too, feeling a rifle’s weight shift across the DualSense as bullets feathered into its chamber are locked-in by bolt-action; discerning each firearm’s trigger resistance; seeing the controller’s light bar flash in sync with the artifact detector; tapping the touchpad to engage my PDA; fine-tuning crosshairs in close-quarters combat with gyro aiming, GSC isn’t chasing gimmicks on the PS5, but imbuing STALKER 2 with deliberate, tactile flair.

The game’s impressive immersivity makes it easier to forgive some of its drawbacks. NPC facial animations are strangely jarring, its story, whilst best taken at a measured pace, takes too long to get going, and missions, encompassing, in large part, fetching things, are largely outdated. However, the real dynamism doesn’t come from quest design; in STALKER 2, the world is the star, and PS5’s version together with Update 1.7 breathes new life into an already intoxicating experience. What’s more, Stalkers, by occupation, are scavengers; their existence is in pursuit of artefacts and intel. So, the game’s mission design, as unimaginative it may be, fits the fiction regardless.

STALKER 2 on PS5 delivers the most immersive and reactive version of the Zone to date. It feels alive more than ever before, both technically and atmospherically. Some open worlds are created as space to enjoy existing in, others are tailored to endure. Remarkably, STALKER 2’s Anomalous Exclusion Zone achieves both. And now, finally, on PS5, that strange balance sinks deeper with every step, where scraping through even a single night feels like a small miracle.

Arriving, finally, in its most complete form on PS5, Heart of Chornobyl is a haunting blend of radiation, and realism

After years of tweaks, patches, and quiet overhauls, GSC Game World’s long-awaited sequel finally hits PS5 this week. But, this isn’t just a port – PlayStation players will receive STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl at its most complete, where the Zone feels the most alive.

How alive? Picture this – you headshot a tower sentry then infiltrate a compound, yet your actions aren’t unnoticed in the pitch-black night. A nearby patrol circles in, flanking quickly to block your escape. Hidden for now, you spot a ladder scaling a warehouse roof. Figuring it’s better to shoot from above, you make a run for it. Flaying torchlight pierces the inky air as stomping boots thunder behind. Then… silence. Only the Geiger counter crackles as you climb the ladder, swiftly take position, and engage your night vision. There, before your pursuers, stands a pulsing mutant. It squeals as bullets pop; you catch a glimpse of scorching skin as muzzles flash. Your enemies stroll forward, kicking the pile of dead flesh before calmly looting its corpse.

Nasty, adrenaline-fuelled firefights are amongst STALKER 2’s standout features, but the sequel is laced with these emergent moments too. There are no scripts. No smoke and mirrors. Just STALKER 2, doing its thing. Its A-Life 2.0 update, when in full swing, allows unpredictable AI to run amok, while the latest Night of the Hunter update adds smarter NPCs to the mix, plus new animations, offset aiming, and even controller tweaks which match character movement to gear weight. These updates are more than feature lists – they enrich a world that breathes, reacts, and mutates in real time.

Why does this matter now? Because this PlayStation release isn’t just catching up to Xbox – it’s arriving on PS5 as the definitive version, refined by years of iteration, yes, but also built on something rarer: identity.

See, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl doesn’t just simulate Ukraine – it runs on code written from memory. Its developers grew up in the real Exclusion Zone’s shadow, encoding its myth and melancholy into every pixel. Strugatsky’s Roadside Picnic, Tarkovsky’s movie sojourn, and similarly inspired games – Metro, Pacific Drive– each have their own version of the Zone, but GSC Game World’s interpretation hits differently. Their Zone isn’t fantasy – its memory, folklore, survival; radiated tapestries woven with haunted thread.

But here’s the thing: the sequel’s technical polish and cultural soul aren’t competing; they’re co-existing and interacting simultaneously. STALKER 2’s authenticity runs deeper than hand-drawn textures on weathered concrete. Its photorealism and raytracing, impressive it may be, can’t replicate a lived-through mournfulness. The more GSC has refined STALKER 2’s mechanical systems, the more humanity they’ve embedded into the experience.

So, how did we get here – to a Zone which feels alive? The short, metaphorical answer is radiation. Where energy and decay change everything they touch, systems evolve and behaviours shift. Like radiation itself, the Zone doesn’t destroy so much as transform. Every creature, every weapon, even your choices evolve under its invisible pressure, blurring the line between survivor and subject. Each update, each iteration of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, despite their plentiful improvements and additional features, has been less about achieving perfection and more about mutation. GSC haven’t just patched out bugs, but re-shaped the landscape into something untrustworthy.

See, it’s in radiation’s instability where GSC finds chaos, where the Zone doesn’t just respond to you but seems to actively remember who you are. Now, on the cusp of STALKER 2’s PS5 release, its 64-square kilometre wilds are less like barren marshland pockmarked by brutalism, but intimate and immediate killing fields where terrain and architecture push back with every step. And once you’re inside, you’re locked in battle; not just against the landscape but with other lifeforms, both human and otherwise – and they’re smarter, more astute, unpredictable, and dangerous than you.

Mutants act differently. Traders disappear without warning. Mercenaries turn on you – perhaps you catch them exchanging tense whispers, or hear their footsteps before noticing their approach. The world listens and responds, sometimes with dramatic consequence. Sparing hostages unexpectedly condemns an ally’s fate, while clearing enemy stations invites new invaders to camp.

Of course, the Zone was never meant to feel safe, but in AI tweaks, game engine upgrades, and level re-designs, the balance between realism and reactivity shifts. In the simulation’s push and survival’s pull, tension grows and STALKER 2’s pulse beats harder. It’s felt in the atmosphere – stillness becomes setup, voices unknown carry dread across the breeze – and unexpected detail, where your rifle jams just as a rival stops to heal their injured squadmate.

When improving the game, the devs talk of “dealing with anomalies” – a play on the Zone’s phantasmagorical threat, but its well documented GSC has made STALKER 2 under duress. It’s worth remembering how long this journey has been – near-cancellations, rebuilds, relocations, and setbacks now only highlight the studio’s resilience. The question is: what does this mean for players?

Well, circling back to authenticity, every accent, every radio crackle, every folk motif hummed by firelight, every detail carries a trace of home for the team. Whether it’s in weathered memorials, the careful scrawl of street signs, or the deliberate design of long-abandoned buildings – these elements aren’t window dressing. They’re silent stories which pull you deeper into the world. Labouring through the Zone, sunlight glinting between radiation-surviving birch trees, there’s no way this game was made in a distant boardroom.

And this degree of authenticity matters. In an industry where most AAA games chase scale and spectacle over soul, GSC’s approach becomes an act of defiance. The studio isn’t trying to degrade its world, but invite you into theirs. In STALKER 2, you’re not just surviving radiation. That truth beyond nostalgia? It’s spoken in half-life.

So, because of its radiation, STALKER 2 does more than glow but lingers. Ultimately, it’s a story of surviving the Zone, yes, but it’s also about what happens when the Zone gets under your skin. When living through constant dread starts to feel like second nature.

On PlayStation 5 this November, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl presents one of the platform’s best opportunities to step into a visceral world – refined by years of iteration yet moulded by inescapable pressure. It isn’t just another open-world shooter vying for attention in a crowded market. It’s proof that authenticity has power. You’re not just ambling through someone else’s apocalypse, you’re experiencing life fighting back against the threat of decay. The Zone is more alive than ever, and the release of its most complete version on PS5 feels like a homecoming.

Fancy some epic fantasy action RPGs? How about the return of a classic puzzler or two new stunning side-scrollers? November has it all.

The year is slowly but surely coming to a close, and even after the onslaught of major releases in September and October, November has its fair share of games to offer. Between that one sequel that everyone either loves or hates (you know the one), there are epic open-world titles to look forward to, the return of a beloved puzzler, an extraction shooter, and even a game that’s over nine years in development. Without further ado, check out the 15 biggest games launching in November 2025.

Of Ash and Steel

An open-world third-person action RPG developed on Unreal Engine 4, that too from a relatively unknown studio? That’s Of Ash and Steel, set in the Kingdom of the Seven, and promising an old-school approach to exploration. Essentially, you need to find your own footing in the world with no markers or quest guidance, and there are plenty of secrets to discover alongside enemies to smack around. Of Ash and Steel is available on November 24th, exclusively for PC.

Lumines Arise

Lumines but somehow even trippier, from the team that brought you surrealist and trippy Tetris. Launching on November 11th for PS5 and PC (with VR support for both), Lumines Arise offers its own Journey Mode, complete with a gorgeous soundscape and visuals, before shuffling you into the real game: Survival. And that’s before creating playlists of stages, completing challenges and playing online, all while ascending to a brand new plane.

Possessor(s)

After the underwhelming Hyper Light Breaker, Heart Machine returns to its 2D roots with Possessor(s), a side-scroller with fighting game-like combos. Players venture through the remains of Sanzu City as Luca, possessed by the mysterious Rhem, using anything and everything to fight off monstrosities. With non-linear exploration, other tragic characters to unravel, and a gorgeous art style, it’s one to keep an eye on ahead of its November 11th release on PS5 and PC.

Where Winds Meet

Everstone Studios’ stunning open-world action RPG has made some seriously strong impressions in China. Its global release is slated for November 14th on PS5 and PC, and thus far, the Wuxia fantasy and depiction of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms still looks as stunning as the combat and traversal. With more than 150 hours of gameplay and co-op-exclusive activities, we can’t wait to unpack it all.

Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road

Announced in 2016, renamed several times, and delayed several times more, Inazuma Eleven is seemingly set to launch, at last, on November 13th for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Level-5 Games boasts more than 5,400 characters in a brand new story with, of all things, time-travelling, and anime cutscenes by none other than MAPPA. Whether it lives up to expectations or not, the sheer scope and spectacle are intriguing enough.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

Something something Raul Menendez is alive, and only David Mason and his team can stop the spread of fear, something. The story of Black Ops 7 doesn’t inspire much hope, but the prospect of four-player campaign co-op is intriguing, especially the 32-player end-game. But except for new maps and modes in multiplayer, a new Wall-Bounce mechanic, and a fresh Zombies experience, this is about as Call of Duty as you’d expect in this day and age. It’s out on November 14th for Xbox and PlayStation consoles alongside PC.

Escape from Tarkov

Numerous years and controversies later, Battlestate Games’ Escape from Tarkov Version 1.0 is finally launching on November 15th for PC. As a hardcore extraction shooter experience, it’s received extensive praise for its survival elements (including a realistic injury and treatment system) and realistic gunplay. It’s no Escape From Duckov, but with 11 maps and a PvE mode, its official launch could either be game-changing or grounds for even more controversies.

Syberia Remastered

A full remaster of the title that started it all, Syberia Remastered offers improved visuals, transforming classic locations while retaining their atmosphere. It also offers more refined puzzles, better controls, and an updated UI to make experiencing Kate Walker’s journey through the real and fantastical that much smoother. Syberia Remastered launches on November 6th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Kirby Air Riders

If more than 105 minutes of footage meticulously laying out features across two Directs wasn’t enough to sell you on Kirby Air Riders before its November 20th release, then nothing will. Between a new Story Mode featuring the Fountain of Dreams and Nova, the return of Top Ride, all the classic tracks from the original, and everything in between, Kirby could once again be a dark horse among Switch 2 releases this year.

Project Motor Racing

It’s not quite Project CARS 4, but with some of the talent from Slightly Made and the backing of Giants Software, Project Motor Racing could be the next best thing. It packs more than 70 cars and 27 meticulously recreated tracks with dynamic weather, a day/night cycle, a Career Mode, multiplayer and events. All this, complete with realistic physics and sound design. What more could you want? We’ll find out when Motor Racing launches on November 25th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

Terminator 2D: No Fate

Bitmap Bureau revisits the legendary action film, but through the lens of a retro-style 2D side-scrolling shooter. After several delays, Terminator 2D: No Fate is finally launching on November 26th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch, and if its visuals and action weren’t enough, you can also explore alternate scenarios based on decisions, resulting in completely different endings.

Football Manager 26

After cancelling last year’s edition, Sports Interactive is set to deliver Football Manager 26 on November 4th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. While numerous leagues and tons of players are a given, it’s all the other changes that have us excited, including an overhauled manager creation system, extensively reworked UI, and – for the first time – a partnership with FIFA.

Rennsport

What if RoboCop: Rogue City developer Teyon offered a racing sim? You get Rennsport, which releases out of early access on November 13th for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. Developed alongside Competition Company, it offers a range of different vehicle classes, iconic tracks like Daytona and Spa-Francorchamps, and multiplayer. Early access impressions aren’t the most positive, but maybe Version 1.0 will turn things around.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl (PS5)

Exactly one year later, GSC Game World’s survival sandbox has grown a lot, not to mention improved by leaps and bounds on a technical level. On PS5, it offers even more, from DualSense support to gyroscope aiming on top of PS5 Pro support. And while it may sound gimmicky, hearing the radio through the microphone or playing the guitar with the touchpad feels right. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl arrives on PS5 just in time to celebrate its first anniversary – November 20th.

Constance

Looking for a less strenuous side-scroller after Silksong? Constance could very well be it with a beautiful hand-drawn style and surreal mindscape created by its protagonist. Even if several of the basics look familiar, combat offers unique mechanics, from dispelling darkness to transforming into paint to climb up walls. Launching on November 24th, Constance will be available on PC, with console releases to follow in 2026.

As it makes its debut on a new platform, STALKER 2 could just be a familiar game made even better thanks to the PS5's ability to transform great gaming experiences into greater ones.

STALKER 2 has been quite a contentious release for GSC Game World, facing multiple delays and a less-than-stellar launch. However, its developers have done a great job of bringing the game close to what it had originally intended, making the experience look and feel worthy of being a part of one of modern gaming’s great franchises.

In the run-up to its first anniversary, it seems STALKER 2 is just getting started thanks to its impending launch on the PS5 and PS5 Pro. This new chapter in the game’s journey might just be its best one yet, thanks to GSC’s use of the DualSense controller’s expansive feature set and an update roadmap that could make very good use of the PS5’s ability to bring incredible single-player experiences to life.

The PS5 version of STALKER 2 might just be the one to beat, as it has been on several other brilliant games. But what sets it apart from the experience that the game offers on other platforms? Let’s find out!

A Potent Platform

It’s a good idea to begin with the PlayStation 5 itself. Since its introduction into the gaming world back in 2020, Sony’s current-gen powerhouse has managed to earn a reputation for itself as a console that’s well-suited for immersive cinematic experiences thanks to its ability to render games in 4K, or the choice to run them at a buttery smooth 60 frames per second.

That ability alone has allowed many talented developers to present experiences whose size and scope are miles ahead of anything the PS4 could do, as well as place the PS5 ahead of its competition by a comfortable margin. And then came the PS5 Pro, which bridged the gap between resolution and performance by allowing its owners to sustain 4K resolutions while also enjoying a solid framerate as they played through their favorite titles.

It’s made several games a whole lot more enjoyable, allowing talented studios to come out with PS5 Pro-enhanced versions of their latest releases that have pushed the boundaries of what a gaming console can do. But the consoles themselves are only a part of the equation. The DualSense controller is a part of the revolution that Sony aimed to bring to modern gaming.

With advanced haptics that allow studios to create an additional layer of immersion working alongside adaptive triggers, a very nifty touchpad, excellent motion sensors, a fairly solid speaker, and a comfortable design, the DualSense has been a perfect companion for those gamers who like to lose themselves in the worlds their characters are a part of.

When coupled with the PS5 Pro’s ability to upscale game resolutions in real-time thanks to PSSR, and the ability to bring hi-res, ray-traced versions of games to life, it’s easy to see how the PS5 and its mid-gen counterpart are an attractive option for studios looking to craft titles that draw their players into the worlds they present, and keep them there for hours at a stretch.

While the number of games that have managed to do this is quite a long one, STALKER 2’s PS5 debut stands to gain a lot from the console’s extensive skill set. It could be a version of the game that stands out from what’s on offer on other platforms, thanks to how GSC is making use of everything it has to offer. But how is the studio managing to create an experience that sets itself apart?

Familiar But Fresh

If you haven’t had the chance to catch STALKER 2’s announcement trailer for its PS5 version, know that GSC has put the DualSense’s feature set front and center while pulling off a very memorable fourth wall break in the process. The studio has placed a lot of emphasis on using the controller to its fullest, and making exploring the zone feel very different from what it currently is on other platforms.

Indeed, the folks over at GSC have been quite enthusiastic about how they have made use of all the features of the controller. During interviews at Gamescom 2025, GSC representatives were quick to point out how the weapon enthusiasts among their ranks dedicated themselves to making every weapon you get your hands on in the zone feel distinct from other ones, thanks to the controller’s adaptive triggers.

Every gun is going to have different resistances when you squeeze the trigger, adding a layer of immersion to the way you handle them. But that’s not all. It’s no secret that STALKER 2 is a title that has a lot of radio chatter between your character and the people he encounters along his journey. All of those conversations have now been mapped to the controller’s on-board speaker, another nice touch.

Even the varied terrain on offer across the Zone has been an opportunity for GSC to set the PS5 version of STALKER 2 apart. That’s thanks to the haptics, with the controller coming alive in your hands just as Sony intended, giving different vibrations based on the kind of terrain you have under your feet in the game. All of these distinct touches might not seem to bring any revolutionary changes to the overall experience on paper, but they do add up to create an experience that feels vastly different from the Xbox or PC when you dive into it on a PS5.

Technical Producer Evgeniy Kulik summed things up pretty nicely in an interview with Tech Radar Gaming, stating that “We are basically acquainted with each gun that is presented to the game, okay, maybe not each, but the Gauss Rifle… we tried to get that realistic trigger experience and provide it within the gam…we’re all about digitalization and some really immersive features that you may actually feel with your fingertips.”

But integrating the DualSense into the experience isn’t the only thing that’s slated to set STALKER 2 apart on the platform. Aside from launching with all of the game’s major patches in place, the new version is also slated to bring the game’s Unreal Engine update to the table, adding a new layer of visual fidelity that could make excellent use of the PS5, and of course, the PS5 Pro to make this version of The Zone one that’s quite hard to tear yourself away from.

On the PS5 Pro, that could mean a significant boost to the game’s graphics. While GSC is yet to provide any information on specific ways in which it’s planning to utilize the mid-gen powerhouse, it’s easy to predict that a Pro mode that balances ray-traced graphics with excellent framerates is going to be a part of the deal. It could also mean that a quality mode with insane resolution could be on the cards for players who like to squeeze out every possible bit of detail from The Zone’s stunning landscapes.

There’s also the possibility of new content being added to the game aside from a few confirmed PlayStation exclusive goodies that are part of the game’s deluxe editions. It’s evident that STALKER 2 is going to be quite the journey on the PlayStation, with GSC going all in on the features that can set it apart on the platform.

It’s a smart play, allowing the studio to extend the shelf life of a title that it has worked on for a very long time. It also allows the studio to perfect a game that it has been very enthusiastic about and has supported over the years during its development and through the turbulent times of its release.

The PS5 version of STALKER 2 could very well be the penultimate chapter in a redemption story that remains among our favorites in modern gaming.

New Ways To Play A Familiar Tune

If you’ve already played STALKER 2 on another platform but are eager to try it out on a PlayStation, next month is going to be a fun one for you. While you might think that you’re essentially playing through the same game, albeit perfected and refined, the way GSC has approached the console’s exclusive features is going to make the entire experience feel vastly different. And that, perhaps, is among the new version’s greatest strengths.

We’re excited to dive back into a gameplay loop that gets very addictive quite quickly on a new platform. And STALKER 2’s latest avatar might just be its most attractive one yet. All that’s left is to wait for its final release to hit the shelves!
