Sony has released a new update not just for the PS4 today, but also for ShareFactory. ShareFactory is its media sharing and editing app on the PS4, that lets users embellish their gameplay media before sending it out to the world. The new update adds some long requested features to it.

These features include the import your own images and video into ShareFactory (so now you have more power over exactly how you want your gameplay media to look), a feature to let you clone clips, and quick editing features, among other things.

You can see the full list of new additions below. It sounds like something you will definitely appreciate if you are a power user of ShareFactory, that’s for sure.

Added over 30 textures you can use to personalize your text as well as the ability to freely scale your text

New Infomercial Sharefactory Theme

New Photo Mode collages with support for up to 16 images

New Photo Mode Templates

New stickers

Contextual Help has now been added throughout Sharefactory

Updates to the UI

It doesn't re-invent the wheel.

Sony has just issued a new update to ShareFactory, bringing us up to Version 1.03, and it seems to be a fairly minor update, that just works on adding more stuff to what we already have, instead of changing anything or causing a dramatic upheaval or anything.

But sometimes, the best updates are just ones that don’t unnecessarily re-invent the wheel. Here’s what all this update brings with it to the table.

Added a new Horror theme

Support for High Quality microphones

Audio playback and export quality improvements

Ability to set transition volume

Ability to adjust filter effects

1 new filter effect

Auto-trim clips if they do not fit into the project timeline

Various bug fixes and usability improvements

Sony also confirmed that “A late addition was also made to allow for video clip audio to play back while recording commentary using headphones.”

So, an already pretty neat to use feature was made even neater. Neat.

Another Sony update adding features! What is going on?

A new update for SHAREFactory is out now, and outside of a few cosmetic changes, it seems to be a pretty minor one.

Those cosmetic changes, though, will probably appeal to fans of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, as Sony continues promoting that game heavily at every chance it gets- you see, the SHAREFactory now gets a The last of Us Remastered theme.

In addition to this, it also gets some other minor fixes, but ones that users have been asking for for a while now, including the ability to import screenshots into projects, new filter effects, new wipe transitions, and new stickers. A few bugs and glitches have also been fixed.

The SHAREFactory update was due to be out tomorrow, but it’s out now, so make sure to check it out. The Last of Us Remastered theme should go nicely if you decide to use the SHAREFactory while playing the game itself (which launched today, incidentally).

The best app on the PlayStation 4 is being optimized further.

The SHAREfactory feature of the PlayStation 4 has been received with much fanfare and one can easily describe it as a major community success for the PlayStation 4. But that does not end there. Sony are apparently looking to optimize the new app’s performance.

According to a job listing on the PlayStation site, Sony are looking for a candidate that has experience in C++ and shader development. Furthermore the candidate should have strong understanding in GPU Compute and optimizations so that he/she can apply that in the PS4’s GPU architecture.

And as expected, the candidate should also have expertise in video codecs/formats and PC/PS4 games development. It will be interesting to see whether this will lead to a new firmware update in the future.

In the mean time, what are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments section below.

New undocumented fixes and bugs alike have emerged with the latest update.

The new firmware update 1.7 is live for the PlayStation 4 and brings a ton of new features such as an option to disable HDCP, export clips to USB and more. It also marks the debut of SHAREfactory which lets users edit videos on the PlayStation 4 with a variety of effects. You can even add your own commentary tracks. However, the update hasn’t been without its share of issues.

One Reddit user reported a black screen bug on disabling HDCP. After disabling HDCP and launching SHAREfactory, the user stated that, “After playing around with a BF4 clip for a few minutes, and being quite impressed I realised I couldn’t hear any sound. So I backed out, went to Amazon to quickly play some TV to check that sound was working (quicker than loading a game, or so I thought) and went straight to a black screen. Despite numerous reboots, I’ve since been unable to connect directly from PS4–>HDMI–>TV. I just get the black screen.

“My Vita Remote Play showed the PS4 normally, and whenever I’ve hit Amazon since it’s said to Enable HDCP (makes sense).”

That’s not all. Another user reported that, “Ever since I updated my ps4 has been flickering like crazy, even when not attached to my elgato capture card. It seems like once I turn HDCP off, it blinks like a mad man, and won’t stop til I turn it back on.. really confused and disappointed about this.”

One user even revealed that the PS4 doesn’t recognize WD 500 GB external HDDs.

There have been a few fixes though. If you watch videos on an app and download a file at the same time, the latter no longer becomes corrupted. Another user reported that an error that prevented Rayman Legends trophies from syncing has been fixed with the newest update.

Have you noticed any other bugs or silent fixes with the new update? Let us know below.

Find out what your latest system update can do for you.

Sony’s latest firmware update for the PlayStation 4, system update 1.70, has finally gone live. The update itself is separate from SHAREfactory, with the former weighing 194 MB while the latter requires an additional 972 MB (according to NeoGAF). Screenshots have also emerged, detailing the changes [Thanks, Redditor MrSazperilla]. Check them out below.

SHAREfactory allows you to customize PS4 footage and edit it together with custom effects and commentary. You can also add your own songs and audio tracks by importing the same through a USB device, after which videos can be shared on Facebook or exported separately.

Other updates including being able to download pre-ordered games several days before they’re released so you can experience the same on launch day. HDCP has also been disabled so if you’re a fan of capturing footage through HDMI on a computer, then you’re now able to do so. If you want to export gameplay from the PS4 directly, you can now use the Share button and save footage on a USB drive. Live Broadcasts have also been modified to allow for live-streaming in 720p HD and you can now archive broadcasts on Twitch and UStream.

That’s only a smidgeon of the changes introduced. The update is currently live in the US – you can get all the details here.

You'll finally be able to disable HDCP for capturing through HDMI.

After initially revealing the latest firmware update 1.70 for PlayStation 4, which includes not only a long-awaited feature to disable HDCP to allow for capturing gameplay through HDMI (which should allow for third party Let’s Plays) but SHAREfactory as well, PlayStation EU has announced that it will be available on April 30th.

SHAREfactory is especially interesting because it allows for adjusting the length of videos captured. You can even edit it accordingly to add FX, transitions and much more. The disabling of HDCP means that we’ll see the Achievement Hunter crew mucking about in Let’s Plays for PS4 titles. Either way, everyone wins.

Are you looking forward to the firmware update to properly allow for picture-in-picture effects with commentary on your videos? Or are you looking forward to being able to capture footage through HDMI? Let us know in the comments below what you think and stay tuned for the full firmware notes next week.

Sony have announced that the 1.7 firmware update for the PS4 is about to come in very soon and that it’s going to be a major one for the system, introducing at least one very important feature to the system.

That feature is called SHAREfactory, which will allow you to customize the gameplay videos that you have recorded while playing video games to your liking and then posting them on social network media with reasonable ease- or transfer it to a USB drive and watch it whenever and wherever you want, if that’s what you want to do.

“The 1.70 update will enable SHAREfactory, our new rich video editor app for PS4 that makes it easy for you to customize your gameplay videos,” says Scott McCarthy, Director, Product Planning & Software Innovation, SCEA, over at the PS Blog. “With SHAREfactory, you can now easily combine your captured video clips for editing, personalize them with special effects using filters, transitions, and themes, as well as share them with your friends and social networks.”

You can also add text, stickers, audio and more to your videos.

Another feature that the update will include is the ability to play games as soon as they’re released- it’s basically an extension of the download as you play functionality that was received so well amongst fans.

We also have the first screenshots [via DualShockers] of the updates in action.
