Bethesda has made some of the best games of the generation- Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, The Evil Within 2, Prey, Dishonored 2, all fantastic games from the publisher that failed to find traction in the larger market. A lot of this might have been attributable to their controversial review policy, which didn’t allow for reviews to be published before the games were available on the market.

It was unfortunate, because those were some great games that suffered commercially- and it looks like Bethesda recognizes that the experiment has failed, because in an interview with VG247, Bethesda’s Vice President of Marketing Pete Hines said that by and large, the company has gone back on the policy- the one exception to this, of course, being games like Fallout 76, where the servers won’t be live until launch day.

“We put out Evil Within 2 and sent it out to press well in advance, and we did the same thing for Wolfenstein 2,” Hines said. “Then there were other games that we sent out at launch. I think we’re going to continue to evaluate what makes the most sense. In the case of Elder Scrolls Online, we don’t have a choice. Fallout 76 is the same way, it’s a server – the game is either up or it’s not. We will continue to figure out what makes the most sense.”

Why change up the policies at all, then? Hines, of course, says that the backlash against it is what made the company reevaluate its stance. “We’re constantly iterating and reevaluating. It just didn’t make sense,” Hines said. “We did it the first time because there was the whole thing about transparency and companies needing to be transparent. We were like, ‘Well, you want us to be transparent, this is what we’re doing’.

“Then it ended up being the focal point and, honestly, we were tired of reading reviews where the first paragraph spent more time talking about our review policy than the game. So we decided we’re not going to keep drawing attention to it – we’ll send out copies and maybe people will start talking about the game instead of talking about policies. So we did.”

On the whole, it is good to see that the company has decided to go back on this policy (even though they aren’t explicitly admitting that it was a bad idea to begin with). It’s also a shame to see that so many great games might have ended up suffering while Bethesda was doing this, but better late than never, I say. Hopefully, upcoming Bethesda games do better as a result of good pre-launch word of mouth.

Bethesda released a number of fantastic single player games this year, none of which found the success they deserved. Since then, they have been taking a fair few measures to try and get those games some exposure- price cuts, free demos, that kind of thing.

One of the games they launched recently was The Evil Within 2, a follow up to their flawed but hugely successful 2014 horror game made with Shinji Mikami, the father of modern survival horror. That game, too, didn’t do all that well- but now, they are giving you the chance to experience the opening chapter of the game for absolutely free on PS4, Xbox One, and PC by releasing a free demo for the game- and hey, if you like what you see, you can then pick up the full game. The best part? Your progress carries over from the demo to the final game, so you don’t have to restart anything.

The Evil Within 2 takes you through the harrowing nightmare that Sebastian, the protagonist of the original game, must find himself in, as he returns to STEM once more. It is a far better game than the 2014 original was- and fans of horror games must definitely take it upon themselves to give this game a try, even if they were burned by the original.

But maybe you are skeptical- after all, the original game opened to good reviews, too. Maybe you want to see some of the game in action before you commit to it. Or maybe you are playing the game, but you’re stuck and you need help. There’s no shame in that, either.

Whatever your reasons, what you need is a full fledged walkthrough of the game- and that’s what we have here, complete with the ending (and the secret post-credits ending sequence, too). As always, remember this will have spoilers.

The Evil Within 2 is now out, and it is a marked improvement over the first game. That said, the PC version of the game appears to be a bit of a mess- this is, sadly, often the case with a lot of big multiplatform releases that fail to account properly for the PC version, and it looks like The Evil Within 2 is no different in this regard, unfortunately.

That said, we’re here to help you out with that. While there are far too many PC variations and configurations for us to help you out with every conceivable error you might run into, in this guide, we walk you through some of the more common ones, and some suggested fixes for them. But first, the specs:

GENERAL FIXES

Generally speaking, some basic troubleshooting tips should always help you resolve whatever issue you are facing with the PC version of any game. The same holds true of The Evil Within 2 as well. If you are running into problems, maybe first attempt the following steps, and if they don’t work out, look into some of the more specific fixes we have below.

• Make sure the drivers on your PC are updated
• If you have two GPUs, make sure you are using the discrete GPU instead of the integrated one
• Set The Evil Within 2‘s priority to High in the Task Manager
• Turn off any background programs, including firewalls, chat clients, video recorders, and overlays
• Try lowering visual settings on the game to see if that improves game performance

G-Sync Not Working

• Go to the Nvidia Control Panel, and select Manage 3D Settings. Go to Application Settings, and enable G-Sync for The Evil Within 2 for Windowed and Fullscreen Mode.

Audio Desynch

• Go to your audio device’s properties, go to Advanced Properties, and set audio quality to 24-bit 96000Hz (Studio Quality)

Controller Issues

• The fix for this is really simple- turn on your controller (and make sure the PC recognizes it) before booting up the game.
• If this does not work, try installing a new driver for your controller

Note: Given that the wide range of PC hardware out there, the fixes mentioned here may or may not work for you. But it’s worth giving them a shot since these have worked for players who own the PC version of the game.

Until now, a PS4 Pro patch for The Evil Within 2, Tango Softworks’ follow up to their 2014 action horror hit, had not been confirmed, which was a bit surprising- after all, an Xbox One X patch for the game had been announced.

However, a PS4 Pro patch for the game has finally been announced and confirmed by publisher Bethesda. Posting on the Bethesda community forums, their community administrator, who goes by the online handle Jurassica, confirmed that a PS4 Pro patch for the game is in the works alongside the upcoming Xbox One X update.

“We’re working on an update for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X”, the post reads. “When we have more information, we’ll happily update you. Thanks!”

This should be good news for PS4 Pro owners, who want to experience the hugely improved horror game the best they can on their hardware. It is a bit puzzling that it took this long for the patch to be announced, but all’s well that ends well. The Evil Within 2 is out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Legendary creator Shinji Mikami, best known for Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4, Vanquish, and the original Evil Within, has stated his enthusiasm for Nintendo’s Switch system, indicating that he would like to see the follow up, the upcoming Evil Within 2, launch on the system too.

“I think a Switch version would be interesting. I’d like to try it if I had the chance” Mikami told GameSpot in an interview. Humorously, he added the caveat that he needs to actually be able to buy his own Switch first. “First I’d like to buy a Switch myself,” Mikami said. “I had to borrow Zelda with the Switch from another staff member to play it.”

Mikami is not the only prominent game developer who has yet to be able to get his own Switch- owing to the incredibly high demand for the system, other game makers such as Hajime Tabata of Square Enix and Hideki Kamiya of Platinum have also mentioned how hard it is to find a unit for themselves in stores.

As for the possibility of the game coming to the Switch- it is hugely possible that it happens. At this point, Bethesda (the game’s publisher) is one of the biggest supporters of Nintendo’s system, bringing not only Skyrim, but also Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus and DOOM to it- given the publisher’s willingness to put its games on Switch, and the developer’s desire to see the game on Switch, we may even end up seeing it happen.

But for now, if you want The Evil Within 2, you can pick it up next month, on October 13, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

New videos for Bethesda and Tango Softworks’ The Evil Within 2, which is due out in less than a month, give us an idea of what to expect from the game’s boss fights. Boss fights are especially important to instil a sense of dread and atmosphere in a horror game- so it is integral that this follow up to the 2014 horror game hit, which was helmed by the legendary Shinji Mikami, stick the landing on that front.

Will it? We encourage you to make up your own mind on that front after you see the videos below. Do bear in mind that watching a video of a boss fight is very different than actually playing that boss fight (after all, bosses from franchises known for legendary bosses such as Zelda and Metroid are actually very boring for viewers, but thrilling when you play)- so the only way to really know will be to actually play the game.

Thankfully, we don’t have to wait long for that. The Evil Within 2 is going to be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 13.

Bethesda’s The Evil Within 2, their follow up to their hit 2014 horror action game (which was helmed by none other than legendary Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami), is now only about a month away- and in advance of its release, Bethesda and Tango Softworks have shared a brand new trailer for the game.

The trailer, which you can see for yourself below, introduces us to the Mobius Agents, who will be helpful as Sebastian tries to fight his way through the horrors he faces. We also get to see Theodore, who will also be sending his horrors our way in this game- and it is clear from the trailer that he will be a formidable opponent.

The Evil Within 2 is due out in a month from now on Friday the 13th (of October). The game will be launching on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC- make sure to check out the new trailer for the game.

The footage does seem to indicate that The Evil Within 2 might end up being a far better game than its somewhat flawed predecessor- but it’s best to wait until we have the final game on our hands before we make that judgement.
