ZeniMax Online Studios' Matt Firor dispels any notion of the MMO coming to Switch.

ZeniMax Online Studios’ The Elder Scrolls Online had a very lackluster launch in 2014, but got its act together in time for the console versions. Since then, it’s been receiving significant updates and expansions, including the upcoming Murkmire. However, what are the chances that the MMO comes to the Nintendo Switch?

Almost nil, at least according to game director Matt Firor. Speaking to GameSpot at PAX Aus, Firor said that the large file size – roughly 75 GB, which is a lot even for home consoles – prevents that from happening. “We have thought about Switch, but ESO is an enormous game, and it just will not work. I would love for it to because I love Switch. It is one of the largest games ever made, and it just will not fit on Switch.”

Though large games have released for the Switch before, they’ve either required separate microSD cards when downloaded from the Nintendo eShop, or large downloads when buying the physical versions. This hasn’t stopped Bethesda from launching titles like The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, DOOM, and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus for the platform though. However, The Elder Scrolls Online is a separate beast altogether, due to being an MMO, so of course, the same rules don’t really apply.
