The newest playable Descendant can chain electricity between multiple enemies and even rain down in a thunderbolt-like fashion.

Nexon’s The First Descendant is prepping for the second update in Season 2: Void Chaser, which goes live on January 16th and adds Ines Raya as a new Descendant. As a member of H.O.U.N.D., she’s capable of channeling electricity and decimating hordes of foes at range. Check out some of her gameplay in the latest teaser (which also briefly features Fellow).

Though her abilities have yet to be detailed, Ines seemingly disintegrates threats and drops down from above like a thunderbolt for area-of-effect damage. It’s distinct from Bunny, another electricity-focused Descendant, but we’re keen to see how her playstyle shakes out.

The update will also have other content like Void Erosion Control, Void Inner Core, and Weapon Core Unleash, so stay tuned for more details. The First Descendant is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. The third and final update for Season 2 is coming next month, adding various themed skins alongside other new content.

The very best of first and third person shooters of 2024.

Games where you grab a gun and blast an assortment of baddies into bloody corpses continues to be the world’s leading video game genre, and every year hundreds of first and third-person shooters flood the market, inhibiting numerous sub-genres in varying quality. As it happens though, 2024 has been a stellar year for shooting games. This year’s shooters have brought much-needed freshness to the table, whilst an onslaught of online co-operative and so-called boomer shooters have provided entertainment in their droves. This year’s list was tough to compile, but there’s a fantastic selection here; shooters which will appeal to everyone. Furthermore, the list is ranked 15-to-1, from good to great.

The First Descendant

Kicking things off with free to play third-person looter shooter The First Descendant, this co-operative RPG tasks teams of up to four with saving humanity from a string of hostile invaders. It harbours everything you could ever want in a modern-day shooter: flashy gunplay, intricate visuals, and a varied cast of colourful characters each with unique skills and capabilities. However, there are problems in its frustratingly slow progression, non-existent story, and atrocious balancing. Sort these issues out and The First Descendant could achieve some longevity in what is becoming an increasingly challenging domain.

Nexon’s The First Descendant will see the start of its second season, Void Chaser, on December 5th. It adds two new playable Descendants, a new dungeon, the first pet, and much more. Check out the first trailer below.

The new Descendants are Keelan and Ines Raya, with the former available at the start of the season and the latter arriving in January’s mid-season update, with her abilities yet to be revealed. Players will tackle the new Void Vessel and battle a new boss, Dread Armor, who possesses different weapons as the battle progresses.

Once it’s defeated, you’ll gain access to Keelan and Fellow, a pet that supports players in battle and can be customized. Other content includes Ultimate Sharen, with quality of life changes like avoiding traps in stealth mode and the Intercept Battle, Void Abyss (which awards Colossi-style skins).
We take a look at some of the most visually impressive games to have been built using Epic's toolset.

A game isn’t guaranteed to be a visual stunner purely because it’s using a particular engine, but a good engine certainly can make it easier for developers to deliver much more technically and visually impressive games than you’d expect in ordinary circumstances. Many, for instance, have already been able to use Unreal Engine 5 and its particular toolset to craft some genuinely gorgeous games- which is exactly what we’re here to discuss. Here are fifteen games built on Unreal Engine 5 that will take your breath away with their visual accomplishments.

TEKKEN 8

Post-launch missteps notwithstanding, there’s plenty to love about Tekken 8 itself, and its visuals are high on that list. From the intricately crafted character models and the insanely detailed environments that all of the game’s explosive bouts take place in, to, of course, the fights themselves, everything in the game looks incredibly crisp and high-quality, helping elevating the on-screen action to even greater heights.

It also adds a new Void Intercept Battle, a higher difficulty level for Infiltration Operations, Descendant Quest, and Halloween cosmetics.

Nexon’s The First Descendant is still in the middle of Season 1: Invasion, but it’s receiving a sizable new content drop on October 10th. It adds Ultimate Freyna, equipped with a new Ultimate, and a Descendant Quest that delves more into the character’s backstory. Check out the trailer below.

The Deathstalker is available as a new Void Intercept Battle, while Infiltration Operations are getting a new 400 percent difficulty level (which seemingly ups the enemy count). The update also marks the celebration of Halloween with new themed skins and emotes, likely costing real money.

Season 1: Invasion was meant to have three updates, but following feedback, the developer merged the second and third. Season 2: Ancestor is scheduled for early December, though the launch date may have changed. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks.

The First Descendant is available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC. Check out our review of the base game here.

Instead of three updates over three months, the season will now have two, with the second arriving on October 10th instead of October 29th.

Magnum Studio has detailed The First Descendant’s first season, Invasion, which goes live on August 29th for all players. However, following mixed reactions from the community about splitting it into three updates, producer Lee Beom-jun has confirmed that there will only be two.

As a result, the first update arriving with the season’s launch is available on August 29th while the second goes live on October 10th. The previously planned third update will now be merged into the second.

“The previous schedule was initially planned to provide consistent updates every month, before each content release. However, I have to admit that I’ve failed to fully meet your expectations,” said Beom-jun. He also noted that the team is “examining the update methods” for upcoming seasons.

The developer has been working continuously on patches and hot fixes since the free-to-play shooter’s launch in July. It’s now looking into “various measures and methods, such as reorganizing the development process and even actively recruiting additional personnel. We will do our best to prepare better updates that will make you satisfied.”

The First Descendant is available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC. It’s unknown if this change to the update cycle will affect Season 2: Ancestor’s targeted launch in December. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Hailey joins the ever-growing roster of Descendants and features her own story. A new Colossus, dungeon, and weapon are also inbound.

Magnum Studio and Nexon have released a new teaser trailer hyping Season 1 of The First Descendant, Invasion. It showcases new environments (including a snow-covered landscape), enemies, and the next Descendant – Hailey, a sniper. Check it out below.

Though the full extent of its content has yet to be unveiled, the developer confirmed Field Completion and Season Progression in its roadmap alongside a new Colossus (which could be the creepy figure in the trailer) and dungeon, weapon, skin, and Ultimate Descendant. Hailey will also have her own story.

Everything won’t be available at once. Seasons last three months, with Magnum Studio dropping a new update for each. How it will divide up Season 1’s content remains to be seen, but players can also expect quality-of-life changes, improvements, and balance adjustments.

The First Descendant is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Check out our review – we gave it a 5 out of 10 at launch, but it has received many improvements and fixes since then.

Fortress Outskirts should now see the requisite number of enemy spawns, and players should receive Supply coins from challenges.

After its first big content update for The First Descendant, Magnum Studio has released hotfix 1.0.6 to address several issues. These include further optimizing the PS5 version’s CPU load and an issue preventing the obtaining of Supply coins from seasonal and weekly challenges.

Other bugs, like fewer monsters spawning in White-night Gulch’s “Fortress Outskirts”, outposts starting without any cooldowns, and abnormal enemy spawn rates in specific outposts, have also been fixed. Jayber has also received some fixes, like his turret not being usable or the taunt effect not working.

Kyle has also received some fixes, including one that fixes the overwhelming damage from “Superconductivity Thrusters” when using status effect-focused Modules. Check out the full hotfix notes below for more details.

The First Descendant is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC.
The development team is also working on a means to dismantle lingering blueprints for materials to exchange in a rotating shop.

While The First Descendant’s first content update goes live today, director Minseok Joo offered more details on future changes. These include a new system to ensure players are guaranteed an item after completing an activity multiple times.

As for the issue of disposing of Descendant and weapon blueprints, the developer is working on a new system to dismantle them for “byproducts.” The latter would be exchanged in a rotating shop for “something of value.” It’s also working on adding an “environment” where players can experiment with different builds by assigning socket types to loadouts.

The above changes will be discussed during Seasons 1 and 2, so stay tuned for further updates. As for balancing, Joo said the team wants to have a shifting meta when going from one season to the next. He noted that skill-based Descendants are very good right now – the team is thus looking to “increase the proportion of firearm-based combat in the endgame.”

“We can’t promise that all Descendants and weapons will be equally balanced at all times, but our goal is to keep changing the effective builds. To that end, we promise to constantly adjust and offer different ways to play with new content.”

For more details on The First Descendant, check out our review.
