These 15 expansions are simply unmissable for fans that wish to have the complete experience.

While post-launch expansion packs aren’t as popular as they once used to be, every now and then we get fantastic DLCs that add so much to the base experience that they become an essential part of the package itself. Some might add a crucial new mechanic, some might tell independent stories, while others might fix key criticisms of the base game. And with this feature, we will look at 15 such examples of expansions that you need to check out.

The Witcher 3 – Hearts Of Stone

The Witcher 3 is a massive game that’s brimming with quality content that would keep one engaged for hours on end, but playing the base game alone isn’t the complete experience. Both of the game’s post-launch expansions including Hearts of Stone are equally good in their own right, but we are going with the latter of the DLCs for this list simply because of the fantastic story. Set in an entirely new section of the map called No Man’s Land, Hearts of Stone is all about Geralt trying to defeat the immortal Olgierd von Everec. Hearts of Stone also introduces new Monsters, side quests, and new combat mechanics like Runewords which come together to make this expansion a surprisingly fresh experience that’s unmissable for fans of The Witcher.

$5 for a gateway into The Last of Us? Sounds good to me.

The Last of Us: Left Behind, the expansion for the acclaimed Naughty Dog game which got a standalone release earlier this year, is now available for half price on the PlayStation 4- players can get the excellent game, which gives us a look at Ellie’s life before she ran into Joel, is now available for just $5. The deal is available to everybody, including people who are not subscribed to Sony’s PlayStation Plus program.

The Last of Us: Left Behind saw a lot of acclaim for its touching portrayal of Ellie and her friend Riley (who was only given a passing mention in the main adventure). Left Behind is included with each copy of The Last of Us that is sold on the PS4; nonetheless, if you have somehow not bought into The Last of Us hype so far, and want to see what all the hubbub is about, then this expansion, especially now at $5, is as good a gateway into it as any.

The return of some familiar faces.

Naughty Dog have released a new video for a new DLC for The Last Of Us. The video features the opening sequence of The Last of Us: Left Behind and centers on two familiar characters from the original game, Ellie and an old friend who has since become a member of the anti-military group, the Fireflies.

There’s no sign of Joel in this opening cinematic, and while there has been little information released as to the game’s story, the fact that Elie is afraid of being bitten in the video and that it centers on the return of a character she seems to have been with for a while in the original game, this DLC will be a prequel of sorts odds are, shedding light on the story of Elie pre-Joel.

Honestly, gamers will gobble up anything The Last Of Us at this point. It’s one of the best games to have been released on the PlayStation 3, and really one of the best games released in recent memory period. The themes, gameplay and characters will all be returning in this DLC. What’s not to be psyched for?

New details on the DLC pack announced.

Sony has announced new details for the upcoming DLC pack for GamingBolt’s Game of the Year 2013- Naughty Dog’s seminal action/adventure masterpiece, The Last of Us.

The Last of Us: Left Behind is single player DLC that will be available on February 14, 2014 for download over the PSN store (or via download vouchers sold at stores like Gamestop). The download will cost players $14.99, a hefty asking price for any DLC, although given that this is a Naughty Dog project, one can be assured of good value for money.

One can also alternatively (or in addition) purchase the Last of Us Season Pack, available for $20, which will grant players access to all Last of Us DLC, including this one. Players who know they will be playing Naughty Dog’s opus for a while might as well just bite the bullet on that one, as it provides much better value over the long run.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage on this title.

The Uncharted dev says this is a very special time in the company's history.

Naughty Dog will be having a busy year in 2014, if not with the upcoming prequel-esque Left Behind DLC for The Last of Us, then with the upcoming Uncharted 4 (or, heck, Uncharted 0). As of now, we haven’t had too much news on either but in a post on the PlayStation Blog, the company has promised to “frequently roll out fresh news and information” on what it will be doing in 2014.

The studio also stated that year will be all about “our upcoming projects” and that it marks “a very special time in Naughty Dog’s history. We’ll have more information about what that means early next year.”

Could that be a very veiled way in saying that the next Uncharted, a PlayStation 4 exclusive, will be releasing? Or can we at least expect some kind of grand reveal along with a release date for later? Maybe some new information on games that the developer hasn’t revealed till now? The possibilities are endless, so stay tuned.

Ellie returns in the newest teaser for Naughty Dog’s upcoming The Last of Us single-player DLC, Left Behind. Not much is revealed aside from a new child character that joins Ellie. But we can conclude that indeed, the world is still destroyed and most likely still infested with Clickers. But where’s Joel?

A release date is yet to be revealed for the DLC, but it will be one of three packs for The Last of Us. The other two packs will add on to the game’s multiplayer. It’s also not confirmed how long this single-player DLC will be or what direction it takes the series. But regardless, for the few seconds we can glimpse, it looks nice.

Meanwhile, the PlayStation 4 will be launching in North America tonight at midnight, while it launches on November 29th in Europe. Stay tuned for more details from the PS4 All Access Event, where Naughty Dog also revealed the next Uncharted for PS4.
