Manually added light sources helped with shading.

We’ve already talked about how just how pretty The Order: 1886 is on the PS4, while the game lacked quite a bit when it came to the story that went along with the game, the graphics were among some of the best of the current generation of consoles. During Ready at Dawn’s Siggraph 2015 presentation the company touched on a number of techniques it used to bring the pretty including using an in house engine specifically geared this time towards putting out a game that would only be able to run on the PS4 and a PC.

The developer used this engine to put together their real time lighting solution, among other things. The fact that during cutscenes, there wasn’t any way to change where the camera pointed was certainly helpful when adding various dynamic light sources in order to add to the shading of the scene and therefore making it look more realistic. The company says that the light sources were actually all added manually, depending on where the developer thought it would make the scene look the best.

The company also released a couple of screenshots (which you can see below) showing the game running on a PC at 60fps. Ready at Dawn says that the target platform for the game was always going to be either PC or PS4 though their engine can be adjusted to be on just about any console if the tweaks are done right. The company had previously said and reiterated that the way they put the Order: 1886 together would have made it impossible to be hosted on another console.

Thanks, GearNuke.

A rather disappointing video.

Sony have showcased a brand new gameplay footage from the upcoming third person shooter The Order 1886. Although much of it involves cinematic sequence and less on player interactivity, it does give us an idea about how the game is shaping up.

Honestly speaking, I am still not sold on The Order 1886. The game seems to be all about graphics at this point and Sony haven’t exactly done a great job of promoting the gameplay that the title has to offer. Normally developers release commented walkthroughs when their game is a few months away from launch but we haven’t seen a single such video for The Order 1886.

I have a feeling the game will be a let down like Driveclub and become only a mere technical showcase for the PlayStation 4. Let us hope that changes. The Order 1886 releases in February 2015. Stay tuned for more news and updates from The Game Awards.

Yep, that's a Sony first party game, all right.

Quick, tell me what defines a Sony first party game. If you said an emphasis on graphics, linearity, cinematism, and storytelling (sometimes even at the expense of game design and interactivity), then you were right. Of course, there are often exceptions like LittleBigPlanet, but on the whole, all of Sony’s big games- Uncharted, or anything- focus on storytelling over anything else.

So too does it seem to hold true for The Order 1886, the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive action adventure game being developed by Ready at Dawn with a little help from Sony Santa Monica. These latest three minutes of gameplay released on the game only serve to reinforce the notion. If those are the kinds of games you like, then the footage above will likely have you salivating. If not, then it will probably leave you cold. Like it did me.

You may notice that the video has some frame rate issues but that is actually the problem with the Twitch stream. Ready At Dawn’s Founder Andrea Pessino clarified this matter. “Thanks everyone! Oh, and the frame rate is actually VERY nice, do not blame us for streaming issues please… : ) There is no tearing when you play the game and if any ever shows up we will squash it. ; ).”

For anyone wondering how the visuals have evolved since The Order 1886’s last showing, Andrea believes that they have actually improved it. “Those are “infiltration” uniforms, much more logical for combat – the full ceremonial ones are used in other places. : ) The assets are the same or better – you just need a better video. excuses? Can’t compare a ruined image to full res. Level of detail has not changed, if anything, it is up,” he tweeted.

The Order 1886 releases for the PlayStation 4 some time later this year. Stay tuned for more coverage.

There is a lot to be excited for in 2014 if you're a soon to be PS4 owner.

The PS4 is coming and right behind it a new year full of some amazing first-generation exclusives. 2014 is promising to be a good year for gaming and it’s going to be a good year for the PS4. Sony’s poised to get a lot of sales on their new console, and while there has been some delays for titles on their new console, it may be for the best.

It’s important that developers have the time they need to release their games right the first time. There’s plenty to look forward to in the coming year after the PlayStation 4 hits the shelves. The PS4, has a bright future ahead of it and we’re going to take a look at some interesting titles coming our way along with the new year.

Note: This list consists of console, timed and PlayStation platform exclusives.

DriveClub:

This online racing game is coming to us free of charge as the calendar turns to the new year. The game’s being developed by Evolution Studios and is a bit different from the previous racing games they’ve developed. This isn’t meant to be a simulator, but more of an arcade racing game.

The open world racer combines elements of cooperative sandbox play that promises to entertain any fans of racing games. If you’re looking for a game where you can just drop in and race with, or against your friends without having to go through the process of selecting and tuning your car to just the right adjustments and want to get right into the action, this games’ definitely for you.
