After a short demo that launched during Gamescom, Ubisoft’s unorthodox thriller Transference is now available. As a collaboration with SpectreVision (co-founded by actor Elijah Wood), Transference sees players attempting to piece digital memories together. It’s not as straightforward as it sounds though. Check out the launch trailer below.

The game focuses on a disturbed scientist’s experiment – a simulation of his memories involving his family. Players will switch between different perspectives and learn more about what happened to the family, as well as what the scientist did to make things this way. Combined with the aesthetic, Transference can be very surreal when it’s not trying to outright scare you.

Despite launching for PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, Transference is still playable on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Considering some of the talent working on the experience and just how out-of-the-box this kind of concept is for Ubisoft Montreal, we’re looking forward to its reception. Transference, the virtual reality psychological thriller from Ubisoft Montreal and SpectreVision, is out later this year. To prepare players for the forthcoming insanity, however, Ubisoft has released The Walter Test Case, a free demo of the game for PS4 and PlayStation VR users. Check out the trailer below.

Set before the events of the main game, The Walter Test Case goes into the mind of an individual with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In order to properly know his memories, players must solve puzzles, switching between different perspectives in the process. For those worried about the disorienting effects of VR, the demo can also be experienced without it.

Transference has also received an official release date. It’ll be out on September 18th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Supported VR platforms will include PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Those who want that extra bit of immersion can also use the HTC Vive Controller and Oculus Touch.

Among the many trippy things Ubisoft showcased, we saw the return of Transference, developed in collaboration with Elijah Wood’s SpectreVision. A new gameplay trailer which also sees plenty of live action footage was revealed. Transference also has a release date of Fall 2018 for PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and traditional platforms like Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

The basic premise involves piecing together the memories of a family in order to “fix their lives”. You’ll explore different perspectives and change the world around you in order to solve the mystery behind the family’s problems. It’s also worth noting that space and time changes depending on the choices made, so the story may change accordingly.

Transference is touted as a dark puzzle thriller with some fairly nightmarish material. The gameplay trailer doesn’t have us too freaked out but we’re definitely intrigued. Expect more information on the same later this year, including a more concrete release date.

The next major presser for E3 2018 is Ubisoft. Though we’ve seen a few reveals from the company already, there’s still plenty to look forward to. Check out the event below when it starts at 1 AM PDT.

Thus far, we’ve already Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 but expect even more gameplay footage and end-game details to be revealed. Skull and Bones will also appear, perhaps with a new release date following its delay into 2019. Meanwhile, the much rumoured Splinter Cell should finally emerge from the shadows and brief us on Sam Fisher’s next mission.

Then there’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, subject to numerous leaks already and just missing some gameplay footage to top it all off. Don’t forget about The Crew 2 – which is launching later this month for Xbox One, PS4 and PC – or bizarre adventure game Transference. Overall, it should be an interesting conference with a few neat surprises to keep fans entertained.

Golem

Highwire Games’ Golem follows the tale of a child who uses magic to navigate the ruins of the Endless City. The actual combat, which is 1:1 with player reaction in terms of blocking and attacking, and movement look interesting. However, it’s the talent involved, namely former Bungie composer Martin O’Donnell and designer Jaime Griesemer along with former Valve artist Travis Brady, that has us interested. Golem has recently been delayed but we’re looking forward to how it turns out.

It wouldn’t be a Ubisoft E3 presser without a virtual reality title but Transference is just…weird. The reveal trailer sees actor Elijah Wood talking about making an experience with Spectrevision that channels trauma.

Cut to some test subjects with faux VR headsets on and a man reassuring them that nothing within can harm them. He says it again and you just know he’s lying at that point.

Transference is scheduled to release in Spring 2018 and aside from it being a VR game, there’s not much else we know about it. As it stands, this is a surreal experience we could get into, what with its subliminal trippiness as opposed to straight up horror.
