A hack and a slash and a racer from the 360 era are now playable on Xbox One.

Microsoft has been adding games to their backwards compatibility at a pretty steady pace since announcing it for the Xbox One. Now, we’ve got two more Xbox 360 era titles coming to the service, and both are interesting choices in their own right.

Ninja Gaiden 2 was added not too long ago, and now the enhanced version of the sequel, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, has come followed suit. While Ninja Gaiden 2 is remembered as a fantastic action game held back by a barrage of technical issues (the game is obviously unfinished in several areas), its sequel is remembered much less so, despite being much more polished and complete. But with Razor’s Edge, the entire rebooted Ninja Gaiden series is now available to play on Xbox One.

Also released was Trials Evolution, a racing/stunt game in the popular Trials series. One of the most well-received entries in the series, it’s remembered fondly for a great many things, including one of the strangest and out-of-nowhere ARGs ever done. Unfortunately, even with it being added to the Xbox One backward compatibility program, the winners in that area will still have to wait until 2113 for their reward.

Both games are available for purchase and playable on Xbox One systems now. You see the tweet from Major Nelson below that confirms the two releases.

"I can't say that we weren't inspired by it."

People have been comparing PSN’s Urban Trials to the Xbox Live exclusive titles, Trials Evolution, going as far as saying that the former is a rip off of the latter. Urban Trials developer Tate Media has now gone ahead and said that its game was indeed inspired bu Trials “in some way.”

“We’ve played Trials HD, although we haven’t really played Trials Evolution,” said Tate Media’s general maneger Wojtek Bilinski while speaking with Eurogamer. “I can’t say that we weren’t inspired by it in some way. But we also played a lot of other Trials games from the ’80s and ’90s.”

Well, it’s pretty clear from the gameplay style, or even by just looking at the game that Urban Trials borrows from Trials Evolution.

Have you played both the games? Do you see the similarities?

Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

Ubisoft and RedLynx have announced that the next DLC content pack for Trials Evolution, titled Riders of Doom, will be coming soon for Xbox Live Arcade. It will be available this December – before the fake end of the world – and be available to download for 400 Microsoft Points.

Riders of Doom will feature 40 new tracks set in a new environment – The Big Sand Lands – which is seemingly inspired by the end of the world (or, you know, this year’s version anyway). There will be plenty of build up and tear down throughout the environment along with a new machine, the Banshee, designed to help navigate through the lands.

There will also be hundreds of new editor objects for the level editor, ten brand new Skill Games, including an endless line of generated extreme obstacles, and much more. This is in addition to the already 200,000 player created tracks from the original Trials: Evolution experience.

Check out the teaser for Riders of Doom below.

Ubisoft has released a new launch trailer to commemorate the launch of the Origin of Pain DLC for their game, Trials Evolution.

The DLC adds several new tracks for you to play through, and they look awesome, if this trailer is anything to go buy.

Trials Evolution came out earlier this year, and we gave it a 9/10 in our review, calling it “a truly amazing game filled with great content”, praising the track creator and the visuals.

Bust out of the warehouse into an outdoor world of night and day, curved driving lines, and spectacular scenery.

For all we talk about racing games (ha!), sometimes it’s best to just get a stunt motorcycle, get a dude and see what the laws of Isaac Newton and pyrotechnics do to his poor soul. Such is the success of Trials Evolution, which has just been announced for PC. Set for a 2013 release, not only do we get the original game optimised for PC, but Trials HD as well.

The announcement trailer looks like it walked off The Expendables 2 cutting room floor. That is to say, why aren’t you watching it already?

Trials HD was a revolutionary game for Xbox Live when you look at the reception that game received both critically and commercially. Its sequel is aptly named as Trials Evolution and stays true to the latter half of its name. It’s a simple game where you ride a trailbike on cleverly created tracks which are mostly linear in design.

There is a reason why Trials HD was popular; it’s mostly due to its addictive nature. It also places heavy emphasis on physics and as with most games that do that, the chances of hilarity and encountering absurd scenarios are high. You may may not survive some of the big air jumps in the game or barely scrape through a devastating land on a vertical ramp and vice versa. It’s unpredictable but not entirely dependent on luck.

The game requires you to devote some time master its gameplay mechanics if you want to earn gold medals in all the events. There are three difficulty levels each with plenty of unique tracks and you can replay it any time you wish, provided you have unlocked it. If you have played the previous game then you should be familiar with how the game is set up – the basic things, other than that, Red Lynx has done a lot of improvements in this game.

Visually the game is spectacular with the lighting the standout feature tech-wise. You will encounter tracks with different lighting conditions and they all look amazing and crisp. The only downside is the texture pop-in issues that currently plague the game, but that only happens at the start of each race or when you reload after a mistake. It’s a step-up compared to the first game when it comes to the looks, and general art direction.

You can reload as many times as you like; and you will because you will crash a lot in the game. It’s about getting the timing right which can be a tricky thing. The tracks are all great, and designed really well. Some of them are pretty easy to clear and when you hit the medium difficulty tracks, you will find it a little hard compared to the ones before. For example, my first attempt at clearing the Gigatrack took me 23 minutes and I had to clear it in 12 with few faults for the gold medal.

There are plenty of tracks at your disposal in the game, and this somewhat, makes it a content rich game which is unprecedented for an arcade game. Considering it costs $15, it is hard not to recommend it to people. The game is aptly title as evolution because that’s what you will see here. It’s a massive improvement over its predecessor and also features a lot of content and unlockables.

You can customize your bikes and the character after earning enough money by participating in the events. Most of them are just to increase eye candy and don’t do much to increase the performance. There are 5-6 classes of bikes available each with different power, and you can use a powerful bike to go back and gold all the easy events.

There are a bunch of license tests you have to clear before getting access to new and powerful bikes and also the specific events for that license. The physcis in the game is a little unpolished as you can witness some insanely crazy things that no one will call realistic, but it holds up well and the developer has done justice to the excite bike physics model.

There is a fully fledged multiplayer mode as well along with an awesome track editor. This just makes the game so much valueable to people who want the best for their money. Track editor means unlimited content which you can find online because tracks are the lifeline of this game. Emphasis on user generated content is much appreciated, as it encourages the community to prolong the life of any game.

Trials Evolution is a masterpiece but with a few flaws. These flaws don’t matter in the larger scheme of things as most of the issues like texture pop-in are not game breaking. It’s been a fantastic time for Xbox 360 owners with games like Fez and The Witcher 2 hitting the platform and providing plenty of gaming goodness. Trials Evolution adds to that and provides them with a truly amazing game filled with great content.

This game was reviewed on the Xbox 360.
