Despite being billed for AMD Evolved, GTA 5 apparently supports Nvidia's anti-aliasing solution.

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 5 will be supporting Nvidia’s Temporal Anti-Aliasing according to the company’s GeForce page. This is interesting since the was said to be an AMD Gaming Evolved title.

Nvidia’s TXAA is a custom solution created by the company for eliminating jaggies in-game, which should ensure Grand Theft Auto 5 looks even better than before. No other features have been confirmed such as PhysX or HBAO+ and it’s odd how neither AMD or Rockstar has confirmed the support for, say, Mantle (AMD’s custom API).

Grand Theft Auto 5 will be releasing in March for PC and is apparently in development by the same team that ported Max Payne 3. It was delayed from January to March to allow for more time to polish the game and make it better for PC platforms.

Will you be picking up Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for more information.

Ubisoft's Francis Boivin and Dominic Guay discuss the game's visual presentation.

Ubisoft Montreal’s Watch Dogs will finally be out in May, culminating in more than six months worth of controversies including a delay and accusations of visual downgrade. It will be worth the wait in terms of visuals at least, as team lead programmer Francis Boivin confirmed that it would use enhanced subpixel morphological anti-aliasing (SMAA) for both the Xbox One and PS4 versions.

After the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag introduced a new custom anti-aliasing solution for the PS4 and PC versions, GamingBolt asked Boivin what kind of anti-aliasing the next gen versions of Watch Dogs would have. Boivin said, “Watch_Dogs uses the same post-process anti-aliasing solution on both Xbox One and PS4. Each frame, a custom SMAA filter is applied on the image. On top of that, we smooth the image even more by using a temporal solution; that is, by re-projecting each pixel to its position in the previous frame and by letting each go through a set of heuristics tailored for the game, we’re able to further reduce visible aliasing.”

For comparison’s sake, it’s important to note that the PC version uses TXAA or temporal anti-aliasing, an Nvidia-exclusive feature. While SMAA is inferior to the same, it’s still one of the best anti-aliasing solutions available today.

Though other third party developers faced frame rate issues developing on the Xbox One, Ubisoft hasn’t faced any real issues with the same. We asked senior producer Dominic Guay whether Watch Dogs would see the same solid frame rate as previous Ubisoft titles along with whether resolution or frame rate was more important for gameplay.

Guay said, “Frame rate is very important to the gameplay, to the controls. It’s not something you want to compromise on.”

Stay tuned for our complete interview with several developers from Ubisoft Montreal. Watch Dogs will be out on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC on May 27th.

Ubisoft's open world hacking adventure is already looking great on PC.

Ubisoft Montreal’s latest trailer for Watch Dogs serves to explain what PC gamers can look forward to when they pick up the game. And by “PC gamers”, we mean those with Nvidia GPUs, since Ubisoft has partnered with the company to ensure some PC exclusive features for the game.

These include HBAO+ (Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion) which lends to more realistic shadows and TXAA (Temporal Anti-Aliasing) which reduces flickering noise from objects such as fences, overhead cables, etc. Both techniques are employed to create a more realistic and highly detailed city that holds up even when explored on the ground level. While only two techniques were covered in the above video, you can bet that Ubisoft and Nvidia have even more to showcase.

Watch Dogs will be releasing worldwide on May 27th for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360. Stay tuned for more details as we approach the release date.

The PC version of Titanfall gets even more eye-candy.

Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall continues to evolve as Nvidia has announced that its Gameworks staff will be collaborating with the developer to implement new Nvidia-specific features to the PC version.

What can we look forward to? Temporal anti-aliasing (TXAA) for one, which willl combine MSAA, post processing and custom filters to reduce flickering and further smoothen out visuals. There will also be Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion+ (HBAO+) for more realistic shadows, support for 4K resolution displays and support for SLI multi-GPUs to further enhance the experience.

Titanfall on the PC is already a good step up over the Xbox One version due to its full HD resolution and near 60 FPS frame rate (depending on your graphics card, of course). How will it look in the coming months with all of Nvidia’s new updates for PC? We’ll find out and keep you posted. In the mean time, how are you finding the experience? Let us know in the comments.
