Everything you need to know about Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue was the final game in the long running Assassin’s Creed series to launch on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2014, and the final entry in the American saga that included Assassin’s Creed 3, Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and it’s DLC, Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry. The game will finally coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 20, 2018, players can experience the story of Shay Cormack in 1080P on PS4 and Xbox One, and native 4K on the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

+ Quick Jump To

1. Development

2. Story

3. Gameplay

4. Characters

Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered is being developed by Ubisoft Sofia, which is the team that created the original game back on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In the announcement press release, Ubisoft said the title would feature better resolution on all systems, improved environment rendering, better textures and updated visual effects. The PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X will both run the game at native 4K, while the base hardware revisions will run the game at 1080p.

The remaster will include all previous DLC content, including the Master Templar and Explorer packs, the two bonus missions once locked behind preorder DLC, The Armor of Sir Gunn Quest and The Siege of Fort de Sable. The game will also include Assassin’s Creed Origins content including Bayek’s legacy outfit.

Story

Shay Patrick Cormac is a prodigious, if insubordinate new recruit to the Colonial chapter of the Assassin Brotherhood under Mentor Achilles Davenport. While training one day, Cormac is dispatched to investigate reports of Templar activity within an area recently devastated by an earthquake, a specific artifact and the manuscripts linked to it. He takes his ship, the Morrigan and departs immediately.

Later on, while undercover as a templar courier, Shay uncovers the location of another artifact in Lisbon and is dispatched to collect it. But Cormac’s world view is beginning to be challenged when his Assassin leaders refuse to engage in a dialog with Templar leaders. Cormac finishes his mission and retrieves the artifact, only to have destroyed a populated area with an earthquake. Figuring out that the artifacts are triggering the earthquakes when removed, he reports back. When Cormac learns that Davenport is insisting on continuing the search, despite the collateral damage, Cormac takes the important manuscripts and tries to flee their base, but is cornered and then shot, left for dead.

From there, without wishing to spoil the entire plot, Cormac becomes increasingly sympathetic to the cause of the Templar Order, even going on to hunt down his former Assassin brothers across the Americas with his ship. Many characters from Assassin’s Creed 3 and Assassin’s Creed 4 appear in some capacity in the game, and play important roles in the plot.

Gameplay

As a remaster, Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered will return to the prior engine last seen in Assassin’s Creed 4. Unfortunately that does mean that none of the Quality of Life improvements introduced to the series as far back as Assassin’s Creed Unity, like more granular climbing controls, improved lighting and physical based rendering pipeline will be included.

High profile actions and attacking NPCs is likely to attract attention, and likely provoke guards, which will raise your profile. Players proceed within the games open world in a third person view, and can choose to climb structures or stay at ground level. Finding high synchronization points to overlook your surroundings can reveal the map and points of interest within its radius.

When players take on a mission, they can be asked to do a variety of things such as tailing a target, removing all of the guards from an area or figuring out how to take out an enemy without raising suspicions. There are main missions, which move the story along, as well as the occasional side missions which explores other lore. Of course, players are encouraged to explore outside the confines of a mission and go after collectibles or just see the sights.

As the game also included the lauded ship gameplay from earlier games, players will also move from location to location using the Morgana to cross the Northern Atlantic seas. The ship combat involves maneuvering yourself into an ideal position, controlling the different weapons of your ship and commanding your crew to take cover to minimize your own damage when under fire. Upon dealing enough damage to an enemy vessel, you can board it and kill their leader, loot it for materials, take possession of the ship and gain a few crew members.

Elements of both the ship and Cormac can be upgraded through the game, largely from purchasing things like a larger ammo pouch or better cannons from the shops. Gold is best earned from ship combat, looting materials and selling them, as well as using your captured ships and sending them on missions.

Characters

Shay Patrick Cormac was born in New York in the year 1731, to Irish Immigrants who died at an early age. He would come to join the Assassin Brotherhood under Achilles Davenport. His skills as a naval captain earned him the command of the Morrigan and was the reason he was selected for the mission which would change his life forever. He’s rude, but honourable man who dislikes having to kill those who are defenceless.

Liam O’Brian is several years older than Shay, but the two having known each other since childhood share something of a close, brotherly bond. The two would meet through work in a New York shipyard, and Liam would look after Shay due to his tendency to get into trouble. He was the first student that Achilles Davenport would induct into the Colonial Assassin Brotherhood.

Achilles Davenport is seen in this game as a far younger man than his appearance in Assassin’s Creed 3. He is the mentor and leader of the entire Colonial Assassin’s Brotherhood, trained out of his own Homestead. Davenport is a serious man who takes his work to heart. It was during his training that he met the West Indies Assassin, Adewale.

Adewale was born into a life of slavery, but is now an experienced seafarer and Assassin from back when Edward Kenway was active, and who only continued his adventures since. He journeys all the way to New York and the colonies in order to seek the help of Achilles, as a devastating earthquake wrecked Adewale’s home of Port-au-Prince and it is believed that the Templars have something to do with it.

Haytham Kenway is the grand master of the first Colonial Rite of the Templar Order, and had been active for many years upon the start of Rogue. He was generally unaware of his father’s Assassin connections until later in his life.

Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game.

Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, which originally launched on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in November 2014, is now available on the PC. Consumers can pick up the Collector’s Bundle on UPlay or purchase the Standard Edition through various online distribution platforms and retailers.

Rogue takes place during the Seven Years War and has players assuming the role of Shay Patrick Cormac. The former Assassin turned Templar is now hunting his former comrades following a betrayal and he’ll be siding with his former worst foes to do so. Weapons like an air rifle will come into play and you’ll have to deal with combating multiple different Assassins throughout.

Along with better visuals, Assassin’s Creed: Rogue will incorporate some Tobii Tech for eye tracking input. How that plays into the game remains to be seen so keep an eye out (no pun intended) for it. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks as well – it won’t be long before the next Assassin’s Creed is revealed, given the number of months till E3.

Ubisoft has formally announced that the PC version of Assassin’s Creed Rogue would be out for PC on March 10th in EMEA territories. The game originally released on previous gen platforms in November alongside Assassin’s Creed: Unity and originally wasn’t meant for PC until fans clamoured for the same.

Developed by Ubisoft Sofia – along with various other internal studios – Assassin’s Creed Rogue focuses on former Assassin turned Templar Shay Cormac. After being betrayed by the Brotherhood, Cormac joins the Templars and begins hunting his former allies across North America. New locations include the frozen North Atlantic Ocean, New York and the Appalachian River Valley. Along with new weapons, Rogue will also see the return of Black Flag’s naval combat.

If you pre-order now, you can receive one of seven Assassins’s Creed games as a bonus along with bonus packs such as The Siege of Fort de Sable and The Explorer. A Collector’s Bundle has also been revealed which includes a bonus single-player mission, artbook, lithographs and the game’s soundtrack.

Also Shay's journey to becoming a Templar, if you're interested.

Ubisoft’s newest trailer for the previous-gen bound Assassin’s Creed: Rogue showcases how the protagonist Shay transitioned from being an Assassin to a Templar. But that’s not the most interesting part about it. The trailer also confirmed that the game will be heading to PC as well in early 2015. Check it out above.

Considering that Ubisoft released Assassin’s Creed: Liberation for the PS Vita before porting it to the Xbox 360/PS3 and finally the PC, it’s not surprising to hear of Rogue arriving for the same. The timing is most likely intentional as Ubisoft will focus on Assassin’s Creed: Unity which will be out this November for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Nonetheless, it’s coming and we’ll need to wait and see just what it will offer apart from the console versions. Assassin’s Creed: Rogue will be out for PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 11th. Will you be picking it up or going for Assassin’s Creed: Unity on current gen consoles instead? Let us know in the comments below.

You'll also play a few missions in the beginning as an Assassin before switching sides.

Ubisoft recently announced the previous gen iteration of Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, developed by Ubisoft Sofia in collaboration with several other studios, and it involves playing as an Assassin-turned-Templar Shay Patrick Cormac. Some new details emerged via Game Informer which did a cover story for this and Assassin’s Creed: Unity, which include the fact that the game won’t have a multiplayer mode.

The game sees you sailing around, hunting Assassins, in the Morrigan. This ship is smaller than Black Flag’s Jackdaw since you’ll be moving through rivers and the like. You’ll be boarded by enemy ships, which involves defending your crew, but before all the Assassin-hunting antics, the first few missions of the game will see you playing as one for a brief period.

Ubisoft also said there was an overt link between Unity and Rogue which will happen at the final moment in the game. It also declined to comment whether there would be a PC or Wii U version. Assassin’s Creed: Rogue releases for PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 11th.

Play as Shay Patrick Cormac and hunt down Assassins.

The trailer for Assassin’s Creed Rogue was leaked earlier today and rather than announce it at Gamescom, Ubisoft confirmed its release in November 11th for the Xbox 360 and PS3, releasing an official version of the trailer for fans. Check it out above.

A lot of new details have been confirmed by Ubisoft. The game will be developed by Ubisoft Sofia and features a collaboration with the Singapore, Montreal, Quebec, Chengdu, Milan and Bucharest studios. Assassin’s Creed: Rogue will take you back to New York in the 18th century and will serve to bridge the gap between Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag as it covers the Seven Years War (in which Assassin’s Creed: Unity also takes place). You’ll play as Shay Patrick Cormac, an Assassin who is betrayed by the cause and joins the Templars to hunt his brothers down.

Along with New York, which will be revamped this time around, you’ll also explore the Frozen Atlantic and Appalachian River Valley. You’ll have a new ship to sail in called the Morrigan and there are new weapons to be had as well. Ubisoft promises that the naval aspects of the game will be enhanced from previous titles.

Martin Capel, game director of Ubisoft Sofia, stated that, “We know that there are many Assassin’s Creed fans with Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles who want to get their hands on a new Assassin’s Creed game this year. Assassin’s Creed Rogue completes the North American saga started with Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag and gives previous generation console owners an exclusive opportunity to experience fan-requested features, such as playing as a Templar.”

Aveline heads to home consoles.

Ubisoft has revealed that it will bringing a high definition port of Assassin’s Creed: Liberation to the PS3, PC and Xbox 360. The title was originally released on the PlayStation Vita and served as an off-shoot to Assassin’s Creed 3.

Developed by Ubisoft Sofia, Assassin’s Creed: Liberation HD will not only have updated visuals but will also work to revamp its gameplay, remastering music and sound effects along with adding new missions, just in case you were wondering just what the hell protagonist Aveline is all about.

Ubisoft also revealed Assassin’s Creed Pirates, releasing for smartphones and tablets, which focuses on naval combat and has you playing as Alonzo Batilla during the Golden Age of Piracy (in which Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is set). You’ll be upgrading your ship and managing crew members while taking on other ships in real-time. Expect cameos from famous figures such as Blackbeard, Bellamy, and Hornigold. Can we expect Edward Kenway in some form as well?

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag meanwhile releases for Xbox 360 and PS3 on October 29th with a PC release in Q4 2013 and an Xbox One and PS4 release in November.

Is the female protagonist of the game potent enough?

Ubisoft Sofia is mostly known to be a second tier studio, so when the much hyped Vita game Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation was announced for development under the studio, there was a certain hype-killer going on in the air due to this fact. However, it’s one thing to judge a studio by their past work, and another to entirely dismiss them. I didn’t, even though I was a bit skeptical, and I am glad, because they churned out a good Vita game.

Not many games have female protagonists, and it’s something most publishers don’t attempt considering how male dominated this industry is; however, it’s also about how they present the female protagonist which most games fail to do well. There are only few notable female characters I really adore, and the one in Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation is one of the best ever in video games.

Aveline’s backstory isn’t fully fleshed out. In fact, they just show her childhood for a while and then before you get to know what’s actually going on, she’s an adult and punching guys in their faces. There are a few missions early on where you learn about her close ones, but none about how she actually became an assassin. This was the most bewildering part because most main line Assassin’s Creed games have had a story of how the main protagonist evolves and gets solid motivation to bring order to the land.

While the core mechanics are similar to the other games in the series, the studio has tried to utilize the Vita’s capabilities by using its functionalities, like the front and rear touch screen. They are mostly gimmicks and don’t offer anything positive to the experience, but there’s not a lot of ways you can use them in this game either. It was a struggle to control the camera early on and a bit disorienting too, but once you properly learn how to handle the entire thing, the gameplay is quite fluid.

One of my major gripes with the game was the slow frame rate. Now, I don’t know what frame rate this game runs on, but when you encounter sluggish screen response, you lose your immersion a bit. This doesn’t happen often though, but considering the game’s detailed and varied environments, it’s something that can be given a free pass. I won’t however, because I really despise sluggish input mechanics.

The weapon animations are spectacular, which was really a surprise, because I was expecting something quite limited and QTE based. The sword slash is one of my most favourite moves ever, and Aveline also has access to a tomahawk, with which she can hack people to bits- not literally, but yeah, you get the point.

There are sidequests which have some fun missions and the payout is good, but like all AC games they get repetitive and monotonous to the point where you just want to play the main missions and get the game over with. But that’s not bad, considering there are several different ways to tackle the missions. For example, Aveline can change into different dresses and you can expect different reactions from guards and other NPCs wherever she goes.

For instance, the slave costume helps her blend in with the crowd and the guards will turn a blind eye to her; the lady costume will help her move gracefully allowing her to bribe guards or charm random guys; and finally the Assassin costume unlocks her full move set but also makes the guards hostile.

You later unlock quick access locations which makes the whole thing a lot less cumbersome, just like all other games in the series. The story is somewhat memorable with Aveline learning a lot of conspiracies and trying her best to fight against them, but in the end, as I mentioned earlier, this game isn’t something which will explain all the events in detail and will end up making you confused if you try to decipher what it’s trying to say.

The bottomline is, it’s an Assassin’s Creed game on the PS Vita, with production values you’ve never quite seen before in any handheld, and the overall experience can be fun if you don’t really take the game too seriously.

This game was reviewed on the PS Vita.

Ubisoft's new story trailer sets the background for the assassinette's tale.

Everyone’s rise against injustice is unique and while Connor might be occupying the spotlight, Aveline de Grandpré, star of Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation for the Playstation Vita, has her own tale. And in between her various disguises and identities, Aveline has a purpose for fighting against the British at the end of the French and Indian War in New Orleans.

And trust us, as good as she may be with the hidden blade, Aveline wields the machete with equal aplomb in her role as a servant girl. Then again, her entire tale is a big gray area, not necessarily a product of Desmond’s memories but showcasing the little space in the war between the Assassins and Templars. Aveline is an assassin on one hand, but still trying to be a part of the society she was raised in (and for).

Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation is due for release on October 30th, alongside multiplatform blockbuster sequel Assassin’s Creed 3. Check out the story trailer and delve into the greater nuances of “placage”.

When revealing Assassin’s Creed III Liberation for the PS Vita, Ubisoft were adamant in wanting to provide a full AC experience on the handheld, rather cutting anything out.

Recent gameplay footage since E3 has shown that they’ve been more than successful, giving us a different look and character with Aveline and her lifestyle.

As to the length and overall content of the game, producer Martin Capel stated that, “The scope of Liberation is similar in length to previous Assassin’s Creed console games, with between 15 hours of play for experienced gamers to 20 hours for typical players.

“Liberation has also been scaled for the Vita experience, having been designed to be enjoyed in shorter bursts. This is reflected in the mission design and checkpoints to ensure enjoyment with on-the-go gaming.”

If the pay-off is as good as other AC games, it’ll certainly be the definite portable AC game. AC3 Liberation will see release on the PS Vita on October 30th.
