During the Direct, legacy Virtua Fighter project producer Seiji Aoki confirmed cross-play support and rollback netcode on all platforms. He also promised “even more content to make this much more than a simple port,” with further details to be revealed in “future updates.” A release date/window was not announced.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is a port of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, which launched for the PS4 in 2021 (and is itself based on 2012’s Final Showdown). Though it offers 4K visuals and rollback netcode, it attracted criticism for omitting Quest Mode. Its cosmetic customization is also limited, with many options limited to the 30th Anniversary Edition.

The new content could likely arrive for PC players as a free or paid update. Stay tuned for more updates.

There are 19 playable characters and modes like Arcade, Versus, Rank Match, and Training. Online play supports up to 16 players via Tournaments and League. Unfortunately, the original’s Quest Mode, missing from Ultimate Showdown, is also absent in R.E.V.O., which players are calling out in the user reviews.

Other complaints include the limited customization, with many cosmetics confined to the 30th Anniversary Edition, which costs $49.99. It’s discounted alongside the base game by 20 percent until February 3rd.

Of course, this is only the beginning of Sega’s Virtua Fighter revival, with a reboot in the works at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. Check out some in-engine footage here.

Alongside the base game, there’s the 30th Anniversary Edition, which costs $49.99. It includes a Swimsuit Costume Set, the Anniversary Sound Collection, “secret setting” documentation, the Legendary Pack, the Ryu Ga Gotoku Series Collaboration Pack, and a special title. You also get a wallpaper set for R.E.V.O. and the series’ 30th anniversary.

As for pre-orders, they receive the Sega Hardware Customization Item 3-Piece Set, which provides classic consoles like the Sega Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast as back attachments for all characters.

Based on 2021’s Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, R.E.V.O. will bring the fighter to PC in spruced up fashion, with support for 4K and 60 FPS gameplay. Alongside that, the game will also tout rollback netback for those really looking to sink their teeth into its competitive offerings. Check out the announcement trailer below. 

Interestingly, the game’s PC release will be accompanied by a 2.0 balance update for the base PS4 game. Sega hasn’t yet revealed what the update will bring, but it’s supposed to be the first rebalancing update for the game in 13 years, so whatever it is, it should be interesting.
