Firaxis’ XCOM 2: War of the Chosen owners have recently received the Tactical Legacy Pack, a DLC drop that adds new gameplay modes and maps on top of the current game. It’s also free for expansion pack owners, but only until December 3rd.

Good thing there’s a 40 discount period for War of the Chosen until October 16th. If you’ve yet to experience the game at all, then the XCOM 2 Collection is also on sale for 61 percent off.

As for the Tactical Legacy Pack, it brings six new Legacy Ops, which detail events that took place between XCOM: Enemy Unknown and XCOM 2. The Resistance Archives also presents a series of missions that increase in difficulty as you go along. Skirmish Mode lets you create your own custom missions and tweak settings like squad loadouts, objectives, maps, and so on.

If that weren’t enough, 28 maps remastered from XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within have also been added, along with new weapons, armour, customization items, attitudes, and more.

It’s been almost six years since Firaxis and 2K Games revived the X-COM franchise with XCOM: Enemy Unknown. With the series having received a sequel with XCOM 2 and its expansion War of the Chosen, Firaxis has announced even more content for PC owners of both. It’s called the Tactical Legacy Pack, and it will release on October 9th.

If you own War of the Chosen (or the XCOM 2 Collection), then the Tactical Legacy Pack is completely free. This is only for a limited time however – after December 3rd, you’ll need to pony up $7.99 to own it. It’s an interesting tactic, not unlike that seen with A Hat in Time’s recent Seal the Deal DLC. Even if this offer is meant to accelerate sales for XCOM 2: War of the Chosen, there’s lots of content to experience in the Tactical Legacy Pack.

Six new Legacy Ops, Skirmish Mode for creating and playing your own missions, over 100 War of the Chosen Challenges that can be played offline, and 28 new maps are available. Some of those maps are remastered from XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within as well, providing a nice bit of nostalgia. Head here for more information on the expansion.

A bevy of free titles are free to experience this weekend from For Honor, Call of Duty: WW2’s multiplayer and much more. Perhaps the meatiest game to play though is Firaxis Games’ XCOM 2 which is available to play on Xbox One and PC. You will need Xbox Live Gold to access it on Xbox One though. The tactical turn-based strategy RPG will be free from now till May 6th, 11:59 PM PT or May 7th, 2:59 AM ET/7:59 AM UK for Xbox One.

On the other hand, PC players can access it from now until May 6th, 1 PM PT/4 PM ET/9 PM UK time. XCOM 2 is pretty heavily discounted during this time, with a 67 percent discount on the base game and the Digital Deluxe Edition (the latter including the Reinforcement Pack DLC).

You can also pick up the XCOM 2 Collection at a 61 percent discount on PC which includes the base game, Reinforcement Pack, the Resistance Warrior Pack and War of the Chosen. The same pack is available on Xbox One for 50 percent off.

Firaxis’ XCOM 2 will have a new expansion next month with War of the Chosen and it promises the most significant influx of content for the game yet. Along with new enemies, new environments and new events, there will be new Resistance factions to help you out. Today, the developer has showcased the Templar in a new trailer.

The Templar acts like a rogue that can attack an enemy and move to cover immediately. He’s basically an assassin and if an enemy is killed with these kinds of attacks, the Templar will gain focus to further strengthen themselves.

If that weren’t enough, the Templar can Volt to strike a single target. Build enough focus and you can hit multiple enemies with this move. Joining the Templars are the Reapers and Skirmishers who each have their own unique abilities and hero class solders so there’s plenty to look forward to.

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen, a brand new expansion pack and the largest ever in the series, introduces quite a few new things for fans. Along with a new enemy to face, players will have new factions to assist them. The Reapers are one of those factions and can be seen below.

The Reaper has a stealth ability called “Shadow Concealment” which allows units to remain invisible after an attack. They also use claymores that can be detonated by any player once set and high damage vector rifles.

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen will also include the Templars and Skirmishers along with the Reapers, each with their own unique abilities and units. The expansion will also include new hero class units, new mission objectives and new environments to battle.

Firaxis announced at the PC Gaming Show that XCOM 2 would be receiving a brand new expansion called War of the Chosen. Releasing on August 29th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, the expansion will feature a system that’s very similar to Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor’s Nemesis system.

Basically, you’ll be fighting against an enemy known as the Chosen, dubbed the “ultimate enemy of XCOM.” As you battle enemies, if you don’t finish them off, they’ll come back to fight you with new abilities and renewed strength.

The expansion will also have various sects and factions to interact with battles, like the Lost. These are Zombie-ish humans that will swarm battles at the first sound of fighting and will battle everyone involved.

It will be interesting to see how XCOM 2: War of the Chosen will add on to the base game. Time will tell so stay tuned for more updates as E3 2017 progresses.
