Ryse was originally unveiled at E3 2010 for Xbox 360 as ‘Codename: Kingdoms’. Then, a year later at E3 2011 the project was unveiled as a Kinect project under the name ‘Ryse”. Ryse was advertised as a game that was set in ancient Rome, the title strongly suggested strong violence and gore and was to be controlled by using Kinect tracking systems.

But then Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli said last year that it’s one of his “personal darlings so it’s going to be rock-solid and strong”.

Meanwhile, The Verge has been getting information from their sources, “Ryse is designed to be Microsoft’s new Gears of War / Halo mega launch title.”

Ryse will take full advantage of the Kinect’s body tracking system in the next-generation Kinect 2.0.

A zombie title title along with a family-friendly game that is set on an island with Pixar movie-like style graphics will also be a part of Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox 720 launch line up.

Also, The Verge was told that a brand new Forza game will feature “super life-like” graphics, and that the family pixar-like title will use Kinect to scan bodies and generate virtual characters in-game.

It has also been reported that third-party software will support the FPS genre strongly and that Microsoft will be getting away from Xbox Live’s Microsoft Points system to real money transactions instead.

Microsoft have acquired two new URLs, Xbox8.us and Xbox8.org, fueling further speculation of what Microsoft’s next console will be named.

Fusible reported that Microsoft attained the new URLs following two disputes with a Chinese resident who’d already registered the pair.

Adding further enigma to the proceedings, Microsoft have not, however, sought action against the owner of Xbox8.com.

The name Xbox8 could have a whole host of meanings: Xbox 8 or Xbox Infinity could be the name of next generation Xbox; with Windows 8 facing an imminent launch, could be indicative of an operating system, or heavy cross-compatibility; or simply protection of the Xbox brand.

Recently leaked documents seemed to affirm the name Xbox 720, but the names Durango and Xbox Loop have also been tipped as the Microsoft’s NeXtbox.

We have a rumour which states that Microsoft’s next Xbox could be called Xbox 8. Now this makes sense for a lot of reasons, because of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. It’s only natural that Xbox 8 could be a valid name for Microsoft to apply to their next Xbox.

It’s all a rumour and that too from a site called thisismyXbox, which states that “the alpha forms of the next-generation Xbox console which could be named “XBOX 8″ – not 8 because it’s the eighth Xbox, but because it’s the eighth generation home console and heavily shares the same software as upcoming Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.”

Anybody could come up with this rumour, though. So take this with a pinch of salt. I wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft really names it the Xbox 8, because that would be simply a logical thing to do.
