Because they felt it would be "perfect for Switch", basically.

Ending an almost two decades long hiatus of no Blizzard game for a Nintendo console, Diablo 3 will be launching for the Nintendo Switch later this year. By all accounts, it looks to be a very well done port, too, and Blizzard sounds particularly enthused about its renewed relationship with Nintendo.

But how did Diablo on Switch end up happening at all? What about the system caught the eye of the folks over at Blizzard, and made them want to put their bestselling RPG on it? Apparently, it was a simple matter of Blizzard believing that the game would work great on the Switch, a system that everyone at the company was playing on as well.

Speaking to Gamespot, Diablo 3‘s producer Pete Stilwell said, “We were essentially sitting around and talking about projects that would be amazing and additive to what the company has, and maybe even trailblaze some new things. The Switch was a thing we were all playing, and something we were all interested in. We thought of it as something sweet to bring [Diablo 3] onto, and then we started experimenting with the Switch and then got to talking with Nintendo–where we believed that it would be feasible and fun to play on. We wanted to guarantee that it would be smooth and responsive, to ensure that it was everything that you wanted it to be for an [action RPG].”

So, basically, it’s a glorified “perfect for Switch” sentiment that led the company to decide to put the game on the platform. Which, hey, I’m not complaining- it may be a meme, but it’s a meme for a reason. A lot of games, Diablo 3 included, would be perfect for Switch.

Diablo 3 is due out on Nintendo Switch some time later this year.

The sequel everyone wanted.

Bethesda has announced DOOM Eternal, the sequel to the 2016 quasi reboot/sequel of the DOOM series that brought the franchise successfully into the modern age. The game looks to continue the same style of aesthetic and gameplay as the 2016 game, with Bethesda and id Software promising an even more powerful Doomslayer, twice as many demons as the original game, and “hell on earth”.

No gameplay footage for the title was shown, with Bethesda promising that that will premier in August during QuakeCon. So we don’t quite know what the game plays like beyond what we were told, but hey, I guess id Software has earned the benefit of the doubt after how good DOOM 2016 was.

We have no information whatsoever on DOOM Eternal apart from this. I guess we’ll have to wait for QuakeCon to be able to see what the game is like, when it is coming, or even what it is coming on (I would guess PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but will there be a Switch version this time?)

But that is a long way in the future, I think.

With the PS5 and next-gen Xbox on the horizon, the time has come for developers and players alike to begin considering and contemplating what the new consoles might bring with them to the table. According to Pierre-Olivier Macé, Communications Officer at iLLOGIKA, developer of Subaeria, while it is too soon to know exactly what those systems might entail, we can at least expect to see “more incredible worlds come to life” with the new systems.

When we asked about Pierre-Olivier Macé’s expectations for the PS5 and next Xbox, he said the following. “Too soon to say!” he said, speaking to GamingBolt. “At least, we can expect all games to run at least with a resolution of 1080p and the evolution of the components will allow us to see more incredible worlds come to life!”

According to him, we can also expect all console games to eventually be 4K and 60fps. “At some point, we’ll definitely have only 4k/60fps console games. PC gaming is already there and consoles will have to catch up. Some PC games today already include 8K textures!”

While I am sure that will happen, I don’t now when it might happen- strictly speaking, we aren’t even at a juncture yet where all console games are 1080p (or even 720p…), so we might be waiting a while. Still, it is hard to argue that the future of console gaming is bright.

Stay tuned for our full interview with Pierre-Olivier Macé soon.

Sea of Thieves, Rare’s co-operative action adventure game that is due to release this year on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs, looks great- it looks charming and funny, and it looks like to will be a return to form for the British studio, which has fallen on some hard times recently. The more we see of it, in fact, the more we are convinced that it will go on to become a favorite of many Xbox One owners.

Take this new video, for example- showcasing a band of developers led by Producer Joe Neate and Lead Designer Mike Chapman as they play the game against players during the technical alpha, the video looks funny, fun, and the game looks like it will have a lot of scope for emergent gameplay. That is just the kind of game that it needs to be to be successful.

Sea of Thieves is due out later this year on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. You can check out the new gameplay video below.

Forza Horizon 2’s Storm Island DLC may have provided quite the value for money to fans at $20 but it’s been having problems as of late. Many are reporting some crashes and other issues including events not appearing.

The good news is that Microsoft has acknowledged the issues and Turn 10 Studios is currently looking into all the bugs present. It has promised that there is an update on the way which will fix several bugs including game crashes, the lack of new events appearing after Storm Island has been installed and car meets not unlocking. You can expect the update sometime next week.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding while we investigated the problems. Your feedback on the forums has been invaluable in helping to pinpoint the causes of these issues.”

Have you been facing issues with the DLC till now? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for news on the upcoming update.

Hideo Kojima, the man behind the Metal Gear Solid franchise has revealed his reasons why Kojima Productions are obsessed with 60 frames per second. Kojima’s last game, Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes also ran at 60fps on both the PS4 and Xbox One.

Kojima believes that resolution is not the only important factor as puts major emphasis on frame rate. He believes that frame rate’s importance is next to 3D. He quotes the example of Showscan, a cinematic technology developed Douglas Trumbull which uses 70mm film, but projects it at 60 frames per second. This is 2.5 times the standard speed of movie film which is 24 frames per second.

The Hobbit [movie] ran at 48 frames per second which became a hot topic with many claiming it to be a unexpectedly painful journey. Then there are reports that James Cameron might be shooting the sequel to Avatar at 120fps, using Douglas Trumbull’s 4K 3D system that films at 120 FPS.

As Kojima has taken his inspiration from Hollywood he believes that the games industry has moved forward as well. This is the reason why he is obsessed with 60fps.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will run at 1080p and 60 frames per second on the PlayStation 4.

Microsoft faced some rather terrifying realities in the beginning of this year when it was leaked that Halo 5 would actually be pushed back to 2015, while 343 Industries released Halo 2: Anniversary this year for the Xbox One.

Though Microsoft Game Studios corporate VP Phil Spencer didn’t confirm the game in his recent interview with IGN, he did outline what it’s most important feature would be.

“In this fictitious world where that game existed, it’s an easy answer: it has to be just the multiplayer experience that we all found in that first Halo 2 game. If you think about what happened in the franchise and what were the hallmark moments – when did duel wielding come in, when did another playable character that wasn’t Master Chief come in?

“All the things that you and I know about the evolution of the franchise, if you’re going to say one thing about Halo 2, you’re going to talk about real multiplayer. I think you just have to nail that in just such a fundamentally core way.

“Frankly [we’d have to do it] probably better than we did with Halo 1 Anniversary. I thought the multiplayer in Halo 1 Anniversary was good, but Halo 1 never had multiplayer in the truest sense, so it always was going to be something different. If there were something called Halo 2 Anniversary. I think the multiplayer would have to be fantastic.”

Did we mention Spencer’s wryness throughout? Because he was wry like all get out. What are your thoughts on the potential Halo 2: Anniversary focusing on multiplayer? Let us know below.
