Diablo 3- Blizzard Reveals Nintendo Switch Resolution and Frame Rate Details

Diablo 3: Eternal Collection on the Switch is sounding pretty impressive already.

In case you’ve been away (or asleep) over the last day or so, Blizzard recently confirmed, after months of speculation, that Diablo 3 will be launching on the Switch. Packed with all DLC and expansions released for the game since its launch, the Eternal Collection will also come with exclusive Nintendo-themed content.

But while it’s packed full of content (not that the base game itself isn’t as it is), the question many people have probably been asking since the recent announcement is, how well does it run on the Switch? Well, we now have an answer to that. Blizzard’s Pete Stilwell has told Eurogamer just what resolutions and frame rates the game will be targeting on the hybrid system.

While the system is undocked and in handheld mode, Diablo 3: Eternal Collection will render at a native resolution of 720p, while when the system is docked, it will run at 960p. As for the frame rate, Stilwell revealed that the game will run at 60 frames per second “across the board”, which means both when the system is docked and undocked. Stilwell also claimed that other than the gap in resolution, there won’t really be any perceptible difference in the game when being played docked or undocked.

Meanwhile, cross-play is also something that Blizzard are looking into (at least with the game’s Xbox One version), but it won’t be featured in the game at launch. Diablo 3: Eternal Collection, for which Blizzard have been working with Iron Galaxy Studios (the guys who handled the Skyrim Switch port), launches some time “later this year”.
