Terraria Sells 127,944 Units in First Week on Xbox 360 – Outsells Minecraft

Answer to the question, "What does it take to outsell Minecraft?"

According to new data from Gamasutra, the recently released console version of Terraria sold 127,944 units on the Xbox 360 against Minecraft’s 81,205. This marks the first game outsell Minecraft on Xbox Live in a long, long while.

Mojang celebrated quite a few milestones this week – not only did Minecraft see 250,000 purchases of Minecraft in March but the game has notched up about 6 million copies sold on the console since its release. Did we mention the 10 million units it sold on the PC?

Terraria, developed by Re-Logic, has a lot in common with Minecraft: they’re both indie efforts and found great success on the PC before releasing for consoles; both are open world sandbox titles that let you build and explore as much as you want, and both of them are insanely addictive. The former takes place from a side-scrolling 2D perspective however, while the latter is set in a full 3D world.
